  • Our journey continues on the Caledonian Canal from Corpach to Gairlochy. In this episode, I have added extensive coverage of cruising the locks. This includes the climbing of Neptune’s Staircase, a succession of 8 locks lifting boats by 20 meters. It is 17th of May and we celebrate Norway’s nationalday with a good dinner at Old Pines Restaurant near Gairlochy.
This is a video of my series Adventures with my Trawler Yacht Whitehorse, a Grand Banks 36.

Thank you. I appreciate, that you like also videos that are not laden with activity. The Canal cruise was just that - relaxing with some, but not too much activity. I loved it :-)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I was surprised that vessels using the staircase locks were manually hauled through, but it was nice to see many visitors coming to watch the locks being used. On the canals of England and Wales these visitors are called “gongoozlers”. Looking forward to your next episode.

The sailboats had be be really hauled by a person. My boat is 12 tons, so I used the engines to drive ahead, but very slowly ... There were some visitors at Neptune's staircase, but not so many at other locks. But there were very many at Fort Augustus, where they bring tourists by busses and the lock staff is mostly engaged with the tourists instead of the boaters :-(
