The real issue with Enchanted Portals is that the developers forgot to do anything aside from reference Cuphead, like there's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from another source but you also need to add in your own ideas too and they just kinda didn't do that, like what does Enchanted Portals do better or differently than Cuphead? And the answer is "not much at all"
I saw the game before the release and I just *knew* people were going to rag on it. Not even for the poor gameplay or lack of an interesting story, but just solely for the fact that they were trying *so hard* to be the new Cuphead, that it's so evident from the look and style.
I agree that's probably most people's reaction, but personally that's not my gripe with it. Something that might've been interesting is if they went for different artstyles for the different worlds. Like in the 2nd phase of the witch boss it looks very Tim Burton esque, skinny chracters, big black circles around the eyes. Or in the tree boss fight it looks like the main character turned into a character from Scaredy Squirrel, and then the boss after that they it became anime for some reason. So instead of everything being 1930's styled like Cuphead the first level could be Tim Burton themed, world 2 could be modern cartoon themed or something idk, world 3 could be all water coloured, world 4 generic Disney style, etc.
After playing Enchanted Portals i have one question... why didn't they put a single line of dialogue in this game? Cuphead is memorable not only thanks to the art style, gameplay, etc. but because thanks to the dialogues we know that cuphead and mugman are 2 carefree kids tricked by the devil, we know their opinion about the various islands they explore, there are NPCs with personalities that help you by giving coins, etc. With this i don't mean they should have put 999,999 dialogues like in a Final Fantasy game, but atleast some lines of dialogues to explain the story and connect everything together would work really well. LIKE, look at that part where there are still images! It looks perfect to place some dialogues. This game could have been a good game similiar to Cuphead, like Undertale is very similiar to games like the EarthBound/Mother series and Touhou Project, BUT, instead we got this.
also in the end the book sneaks out to talk to another book, if it can move around outside of the fantasy world why couldnt it escape in the first place?
We will probably never know why. But, if i had to guess, it's because... i don't know, this game is so rushed and unpolished that it's difficult to tell. They should have just made a smaller game to test things out before making this project.@@mikadosannoji553

Just some random studio trying to rip it off using rubberhose/30s cartoon style will never get close to them cause their motivation and dedication is way less.

The game doesn’t even work as a story. Which should’ve been the one thing that they nailed with or without a budget. Why are we fighting these bosses. In Cuphead, we’re stealing people’s souls, so of course the bosses are gonna fight back. In Enchanted Portals, all we’re doing is chasing a sentient book and trying to go home. Why are we killing these bosses and why do they want to kill us.
Instead of being a zombie for that one point of the fight, they should have made you a zombie for the whole level, and given you maybe a different moveset that goes along with it. Then, with the squirrel transformation, they should have had a forest level, where you were the squirrel, with a different moveset for that. It had a lot of potential, sadly.
Honestly, I don't mind so called "clones". I think it can actually work really well. If you do something unique with it. Another one is Pizza Tower, that game clearly takes inspiration from Wario Land. But it isn't just copy paste, it takes ideas from the past and does its own thing as well.

okay whatever enchanted portals, just wanted to put smth on the background, but your charisma, editing skills and script is REALLY GOOD BRO!!! real underrated
It's strange but I feel as though this game cursed me too. I was imagining the plot of the sequel where Boy Wizard gets cursed by The Elder Spellbook and falls ill meaning Girl Wizard must collect ingredients for a potion that won't cure Boy Wizard but will allow him to astral project to Elder Spellbook's location and explain that Younger Spellbook is lying. I just came up with this plot then suddenly I got the new covid strain. What the hell, game?! I was being nice! I was helping you come up with a sequel! Or is this not you but my gift of prophecy is activating again?!
This game having the worst audio you will hear in years is a good thing in the long run. Sound design is an underappreciated aspect and this will get people to care about it.
13:00 I swear its kind of frustrating. Its like they looked at cuphead, took anything they didnt really need to take, and then the things they would have benefited in taking away from cuphead (the means of changing weapons, the controls, the not randomly generated level design) and *didnt* take any of it.
I wanted this game to be good sooooo bad, i was so excited to have more Cuphead, whether it was official or not, but then it came out and its so bad... I had hopes for it...
The art of Cuphead was so charming and unique. I loved every character... the art of Enchanted Portals makes me wanna punch every character in the face.
Knew it, the only thing that was kinda good was how it sometimes changed art styles but it still looked a little weard. They should of made each world or levels (idk what they call it in the game) a different style
I was wondering why Enchanted Portals looks so weird.. and I think it’s because it seems to be slower? Cuphead is very dynamic and there is a lot of movement, but EP just looks like it’s slow motion lmao
The art in this game is very cute. Such a shame that this video is probably the most exposure its going to get because playing it yourself sounds like torture
The closest thing I can say resembles this is lords of the fallen. Remember that? The first "big" soulslike . That game was basically doing what this game is doing. Just "remember that really good game that you like? Well here's that but way less interesing"
Dude honestly If the developers were smart they could have went for other styles (64 and PlayStation 1, or link the faces of evil honestly just any other kind of inspiration in General) for there game instead of just literally copying cuphead like bro💀
(Not so) fun fact… The enemy placement in the linear levels is RANDOMLY GENERATED. If you try to speedrun or progress too fast, the enemies will load in so fast they stack and become nearly unavoidable, especially in levels that rely more on platforming.
Lmao I unironically feel bad about this, that's why I had to explain that that wasn't the goal when I initially asked for the code. But yeah I'm definitely a little shit for this lol

And I just forgot that it existed.
Until they finished the game.
Now it's everywhere.
On my UA-cam recommendations.
damn bro ran outta gummies that’s… damn dude… that’s the real tragedy
I'm still not over it tbh
im crying right now
they had a failed kickstarter in 2019 while cup head was thriving they also only had 2 people working on this game
the witch is basically "hey captin brineybeard cap i copy ur homewor" "sure but dont make it too obvious"
okay whatever enchanted portals, just wanted to put smth on the background, but your charisma, editing skills and script is REALLY GOOD BRO!!! real underrated
Actually very solid video! I loved it.
Subscribed and liked! Keep up the great work. :D
The whole sound design segment had me dead 😂
2:42 *That's so me... Glad I'm not the only one who loves those type of games.*
I thought only I noticed 😳
The bosses look great, at least. I am attracted to the cow.
Horny on main
SIMP ALERT SIMP ALERT!
HORNY ALERT HORNY ALERT
WOOWOOWOOWOO
Forget touching grass, you need to be force feed tree bark for this level of degenerate behavior
more people get killed by cows than sharks
Excellent video, man! Writing, energy, everything was top notch.
This game having the worst audio you will hear in years is a good thing in the long run. Sound design is an underappreciated aspect and this will get people to care about it.
Yes, each normal level is RANDOMLY generated, not even a single part of the main game is hand made other bosses.
Tbh it's impressive as only 2 people made this game and still better then most ea games
Yeah, plus also garten of banban was made by 2 people. (Not counting the voice actors)
@@Cubeytheawesome that aint really a good comparison anyways
Wasn't Cuphead as well?
The 2 devs did a worse job than the euphoric brothers.
This was really well edited, glad this video did well for you:)
13:00 I swear its kind of frustrating. Its like they looked at cuphead, took anything they didnt really need to take, and then the things they would have benefited in taking away from cuphead (the means of changing weapons, the controls, the not randomly generated level design) and *didnt* take any of it.
this is probably the best enchanted portals vid out there rn
you did a really good job on this i hope you get a lot of traction from it
The sound design feels like a scratch project
It’s almost like people want them to copy cuphead
I've missed this beautiful face
And I miss the beautiful face of my favourite guy, UA-camOnly7271
I wanted this game to be good sooooo bad, i was so excited to have more Cuphead, whether it was official or not, but then it came out and its so bad... I had hopes for it...
Rubberneck-themed games would go so hard if they focused on more than just making it look like rubberneck.
That aint Cuphead thats Methhead.
I played Cuphead a lot but I never played….whatever this is, and it’s probably for the better
The art of Cuphead was so charming and unique. I loved every character... the art of Enchanted Portals makes me wanna punch every character in the face.
0:03 COC GOBLIN
I like when games can combo you, so long as it doesn't apply to strongly to environmental/instant death damage sources.
Knew it, the only thing that was kinda good was how it sometimes changed art styles but it still looked a little weard. They should of made each world or levels (idk what they call it in the game) a different style
this game just makes me think: *"its clearly not finished put it back IN"*
As someone who does know music theory you are correct! That sentence was utter nonsense but it conveyed your point well. Goodness that is bad.
They brought a bovine character to fight against with.. in a desert..
They didn't tried to make it trully unique.
2:42 hold the fuck up. What was this man lookin at?
I'm not into Cuphead but I just gotta say congrats on a banger video! It's deserved.
I was wondering why Enchanted Portals looks so weird.. and I think it’s because it seems to be slower? Cuphead is very dynamic and there is a lot of movement, but EP just looks like it’s slow motion lmao
this video is very funny, thank you
Ok, first video I see on your channel and you're really funny and talented, keep it up
The art in this game is very cute. Such a shame that this video is probably the most exposure its going to get because playing it yourself sounds like torture
feels like it changes ever so slightly, cause it does. the levels are randomly generated...
Loved the editing of this video lol
The worst aspects of game is it constantly on iron man mode.
No save file hitting hard ngl .
Asad is a true yogurt male for asking for a review code just to shit on the game
HEY I asked for a review code and THEN realized oh wait I'm definitely gonna shit on this game
@@AsadAnjum yogurt male is a COMPLIMENT
@@waterbakey4330 I know I'm just covering my ass in case the dev teams got snipers
it looks and sounds like prodigy math game
...Yeah I hated Rumor Honeybottom too, and Matchstick. xD
The closest thing I can say resembles this is lords of the fallen. Remember that? The first "big" soulslike . That game was basically doing what this game is doing. Just "remember that really good game that you like? Well here's that but way less interesing"
2:42 FBI OPEN UP
I do like the intro to this UA-cam video of yours.
This game feels like something made by an overambitious artist and a part time game designer
Dude honestly
If the developers were smart they could have went for other styles (64 and PlayStation 1, or link the faces of evil honestly just any other kind of inspiration in General) for there game instead of just literally copying cuphead like bro💀
2:42 That girl almost looks like Hilda from the Pokemon series.
Very.. cool
To be entierly fair they were running on 2 developers and a failed kickstarter.
Really like the art, shame that the gameplay isn’t good
(Not so) fun fact… The enemy placement in the linear levels is RANDOMLY GENERATED. If you try to speedrun or progress too fast, the enemies will load in so fast they stack and become nearly unavoidable, especially in levels that rely more on platforming.
I feel bad for the devs, they are very clearly inexperienced.
when the Cuphead dlc came out some of the bosses were similar to this games bosses
the difference is that one is done well
Another reviewer pointed out that the levels were all procedurally generated
GIANT ENEMY CRAB
Enchanted portals was enchanted with curse of sucking X
Guys doing this while living in New York and a student? I respect that.
18:14
What I want to know is what the Hell is this High Guardian Spice Ripoff Garbage that pretends to be Anime?
5:46 this part so funny lol
imagine you give a game reviewer a code and a couple days later he uploads a video titled this game sucks
Lmao I unironically feel bad about this, that's why I had to explain that that wasn't the goal when I initially asked for the code. But yeah I'm definitely a little shit for this lol
i like the banned ken necklace
2:42 Yo imma need some explanation on that. Including the link and page. And a VPN. For research purposes.
