Great review. I work 60 hours a week, married with 2 boys so I have very little time to game & this seems like the perfect device to jump in wherever you are or whenever you can so going to give it a try. Thanks again man
Gonna get mine sometime soon. I've got a huge back log of games that I've been bought on sale throughout the years because I thought I'd have the time to play. But like most adults, work and family takes most of our time now and the Steam Deck is just what I needed to finally play these games.
Nice breakdown and review. I can totally relate to your experiences, as a full time editorial content lead for an advertising agency, play time is almost non existent until I realized it's already gone too. While I have and enjoyed the Switch, it doesn't allow me to play triple A titles on the go and I just couldn't afford buying a proper gaming laptop. So the Steam Deck fits the bill perfectly with its price point. As a HANDHELD I managed to steal some time playing the game in-between work or during lunch break.

Really enjoying my Steam Deck, I got it last summer and have really been enjoying it. I hooked it up to one of my TVs and connected a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, so that I could play games like Borderlands 2 and Titan fall 2. I got a Tomtoc case which fits the deck perfectly for taking to work in my lunch bucket and playing a little on my break. When I went for a trip to Kansas last month, I took the deck and played games like Doom, Dead Cells, Horizon Chase Turbo, Sonic all stars racing transformed and Skyrim Elder Scrolls V, in the back seat. I have been getting into emulation more lately and added some older Nintendo titles to my deck. I am also looking into buying Zelda: Breath of the wild to emulate on my deck at some point.
That was a great review, I bought my Steam deck in January after seeing what it can do through other reviews and I love it! It definitely makes gaming more convenient.

@@JonImperial Two older games that I also have on steam but haven't played on the Deck yet are Sleeping Dogs and Titan fall 2. You might of heard of/played both of them in the past though. Figured sleeping dogs might be more up your alley since you play Red Dead redemption 2. It's more in the vein of a Grand theft Auto though. Titan fall is just a really good shooter for the campaign. Can't speak for the multiplayer part of it but I heard it was good as well. I really enjoyed the campaign though. They both go on sale from time to time.
You know I love how you touched on an aspect of the deck that I also completely share, where if I'm going to wanna play a multiplayer shooter you hop on your pc, but when you wanna wind down or just chill with your wife you whip out your steam deck, I really love that my deck allows me to spend some gaming time in bed playing next to my wife and dog and not bothering them with my louder pc when they are sleeping.
It is not good value for handheld compared to Switch. There are games that should be played on PC. No handheld is yet capable of it for a good price and product. Switch has many great exclusives and games that are great for playing on handheld. Steam Deck has never been worth it. Asus Ally is far and away a better option. And can actually be either it as a PC game machine alternative with Windows. Never waste money on a Steam Deck.
@See Ess you are right the steam deck isn't a good handheld option, it's a GREAT option for the price, you know why it wins for me, I don't care about Nintendo exclusives I will never support those money grabbers as they only care about squeezing the highest prices from games series that have been around since before I was born(1998), steam has over 50000 available games, and the device itself is better for me than the asus ally as I don't wanna spend close to a grand for performance that is better but doesn't have dual track pads or 4 other back buttons to program. I'm happy and am so excited to have a device that let's me play cyberpunk for an hour and a half at great settings pretty much anywhere I can bring it.
@@jamesbalaj4641 This is totally false. The price of close to a grand is similar on both You clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Steam Deck is over $700 in most shops. Same pricing for Ally. The touch screen on Steam Deck seems like a nice touch. But found to be barely used and unnecessary by most. Due to being fully touch screen anyway. Ally can play any Steam game. And it has faaaar more universal options for games that you do not even need to get on Steam. 5000 is an irrelevant number when what is available outside of Steam is what is most relevant. Steam Deck has never been a good product which means it is not even close to great. It is closer to poor oversized overpriced product recommended to avoid. Nintendo is greedy as can be, But no more than Valve. Perhaps not even close to Valve. If the product is worth the value then, that is what matters to most users. Yet the biggest hypocrites on the internet and one the face of the earth are anybody who use Valve for anything, and while pointing fingers at anybody about greed and anticonsumer. Which is what Valve is far more than any other company. Yet the point was value to the user. I got three games from Steam over the past two years. Due to being Steam exclusive - Final Fantasy 14, Fallout 4, Elden Ring. Because I enjoyed those. But I got many games elsewhere. Switch offers the best value for handheld. The OLED is amazing. Dragon Quest 11-S has great benefit on PC. But also excellent on Switch OLED for a handheld game.. For PC games on handheld, Steam Deck is a huge waste of money when Asus Ally is just so much better. There is has always been zero reason to pay enormous amount for Steam Deck. But Ally is actually a great product for that price range. As stated it is a Windows PC as well. Anybody looking for a budget PC for gaming consider getting the Ally. It can be docked as well as brought around like a laptop. There is no competition between something well worth it vs something that has never been worth it.
I play games only when I am bored or feel low. Basically play games for relaxation. I had series S but when I wanted to play game My TV was busy with my family watching their programmes. Only time I could play was at night when I actually need sleep. Steam deck is boon for casual players like me. Sold Series S and got deck and now I can play when and wherever I want. Thanks Valve for making this masterpiece
Got mine 4 days ago, didn't turn on, was waiting for the m.2 1tb to replace my 64gb deck, i know there are a lot more powerful handhelds but i just aimed for the one that has a large community and a well established gaming resource who happens to built their own handheld which is great plus the value that is affordable in my opinion, Great review by the way.
New steam deck owner here. I work on a cruise so I don’t have wifi to play online and just carrying my PS5 to the cruise and then installing it in my already limited space cabin is simply a no. I own a switch and while it’s great, I was feeling I was missing out a lot of AAA games just cuz the Switch doesn’t have them. I LOVE THE STEAM DECK, playing Master Chief Collection, Metro Exodus, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring and so many more AAA and now Sony “exclusives” like Days Gone is mind blowing. I was biased by the battery life but again, I usually never find myself playing for more than 2-3 hours so it’s never an issue. Gotta say, the Switch and SteamDeck combo is a killer one hahahaha. I love handheld and having the power and library of both of those systems is an absolute blast.
Dude excellent review that I totally related too. Self employed makes turning work off hard, and having that downtown in the evening always turns into more work time for me. Even if it’s just emails from my phone on the couch while Office runs for the 1,000x.
I love my deck. I bought it and I had lots of skepticism for it. I absolutely love it more than my switch, not that I won't play my switch (I'm gonna set it as a party games console). My steamdeck can run games like Elden ring, GTA, and Minecraft really well. The size was pretty big and after a while picked up my switch and I realized how small it was.
Hello great video I am new to pc gaming I do not have a pc but I just bought a steam deck and I’m a big fan of red dead and dayZ one of the reasons I bought a steam deck is because I wanted to mod those games can you mod dayZ and red dead on the steam deck?
If been trying out monster hunter world on the steam deck, and while it is not verified, the playability of the game on the steam deck is amazingly good. Also I just learned a few days ago that you can pause the game with a short power button game, and continue it where you have left it afterwards
Handheld! nice review for steamdeck. I bought mine this year too and very satisfied with the portability of the device, its just for the accessories that it is quite a bit hard to order here from the philippines. Hope I can get the jsaux cooling fan at carry case soon. Keep safe kabayan! LOL
Handheld! I am hesitating on getting my Steam Deck... 419€ is pretty expensive but I eventually will get one... let's maybe wait until some sales... thanks for the video!
Me too currently owned a steamdeck..i just received it in this week and currently playing The Division..its an old game,yes..but thats what i want to play since its 1st release..sadly im not working at one place for long time and never had any consoles..this my 1st time owning a real portable gaming console and im really going deep into it 😄
Not only that Steam Deck can be use as your handheld laptop similarly as other tablet PC's which is also great for last minute productivity work, specially if you're familiar with Linux OS's.
Thank you so much for the sub! I'll see what I can do. I'm hesitant, because using emulation, does not appeal to me as a gamer. I can't think of games I would want to play, but never say never. 😊
Great vid! I honestly thought about buying a Steam deck ever since it’s reveal and release but I wanted to use Windows as well, make it my new PC since my current one is old and weak to run most games I want to play so I just use it for work. I like the PS5 but I hardly play much other than play online with a friend or two, heck I have less time to do so sometimes but when I have time I want to catch up on other things and I resort to playing mobile games on my iPad. And this I looked at the Steam deck and thought about getting this because it can be my new PC, Android emulation and Stream service like Gamepass and PS Remote play, the perfect device for when I want to play game on. But as I said, the hassle of having to do extra steps to make it run Windows is yeah. I’ll probably get it somewhere down the line but right now, the ROG Ally is much more appealing to me.
I was skeptical of the Steamdeck and didnt think I would use it over my gaming PC... but honestly I game so much more now. I can play all my favourite games from bed, in a park, on a long flight, in the airport... anywhere i am bored or just have a quick 30mins to get another quest done... it is a game changer. What is funny is I just built a brand new gaming PC which I thought I would use daily... now i just use it for work and the Steamdeck does the bulk of the gaming! XD
I wanna play games like gta fornite & call of duty but if its gonna b laggy or fps drops rhen i dont know i want the deck but the rog is coming soon & fem a console gamer experience i see mainly indie & small games being played on the steam deck anything bigger i only see videos of it running terrible so would we be a good cop get a steam deck or wait to see if the ROG ally can run the games i want to play better
I'm hoping to get my hands on the ROG Ally ASAP and try to provide some insight. 😊 Like I said in my video, I have had no issues running some AAA titles. I think you need to manage your expectations though.
One of my favorite games to play on the steam deck has to be the sims 4, it almost feels like your playing it on your console, except the screen is much much closer, and you can mod the game as well. When I discovered the steam deck I was blown away, I play for far longer than I should, to the point where my parents had to take away my computer so I didn't screw up my grades, well. Turns out the way they placed my computer (upside down) the graphics card fell out and broke, so my parents are getting me a steam deck to replace it, I have a lot of free time since I'm only 17, but I still feel as though I'll find a great use for this
I’ve been a handheld gamer my whole life, and every time i try to game on the pc, it is just not for me. There are so many pc games that the switch just doesn’t have and i am definitely looking to get a steam deck when i am able to this year. It may seem redundant to have both the switch and deck, but i feel like they have different uses and I’m so excited to get my hands on one. thanks for the great video :)
Nah it makes sense to have both. They both play different games. Plus since you have. Switch already it'd be easier to get your switch games on the steam deck. If you wanted.
Handheld! I'm getting mine tomorrow! I originally got Switch three years ago, but the game library isn't as appealing to me, I found myself mostly waiting for the next pc port.
@@JonImperial Resident Evil 4 remake! I didn't managed to finish it on my PC, because it's just a gigantic hassle to hook it to my living room TV and get that console experience (and I refuse to work and game on the same setup). Plus waking up a game from suspend for a 15-20 minute session is a game changer. I finished Witcher 3 that way on Switch.
as a college student with a ps5 and a macbook, i can’t really justify spending $1000+ on a gaming pc. it just doesn’t make sense to spend that much on something that’ll be used for one task. i’ve always loved handhelds and have recently been considering getting the steam deck. i feel like it’ll be a good way to build up a steam library and be able to play some games that i can’t play on my ps5, not to mention emulation and the portability. great video!
Maybe I will get that one too, Kabayan. I have a NS OLED to play some ported games but I want to have a SD to play some AAA games and fighting games that not has been in NS OLED.
Handheld. Very well done review. Happy to see you got a little personal with it and gave your input on its usefulness in your available time. Haven't seen a video that brought that personal aspect into it. I just ordered mine 2 days ago, and boy am I excited. Like a kid waiting on Christmas😅. I got my accessories in the mail yesterday, and I'm waiting and prepared. I'm glad you mentioned you didn't have to repurchase the games, as that was my original thoughts until I saw a video where a guy said he bought Hogwarts Legacy twice and I got freaked out. Lol. That was definitely going to be a deal breaker if I had to repurchase my already owned steam games. Can't wait to test it out, and also sooooo ecstatic to emulate LoZ:Majoras Mask, FFVII, and such😊. Being able to portably take my childhood games with me like that? I'm stoked. Do you have a link for that fan and stand you got? Edit: Nevermind on the links, just saw them in description! Thanks!
I think I fall under same category, I ordered the Switch lite just wanted to play Stardew valley after a day cancelled the order and got my Steam deck oled it been a couple of month no regrets yet :)
Great review bro. Adulting changes how i play now especially when i have kids. I rarely play now and the steam deck does it for me. I ordered the Asus Rog Ally... canceled it yesterday because Steam deck i feel is better and really has a good backing behind it. Your battery pack tho- legit! 😊
I definitely think you don’t need to upgrade from Steam Deck! It’s still so good. Kinda like how you don’t need to upgrade your phone just because a new one came out. BUT as a reviewer, I would love to try out the ROG Ally! 😊

i just got my steam deck, i am not really a gamer at all. i mostly play fifa 23 on my xbox which sadly wont work on my deck. so far im really just using my deck as a tablet for watching netflix or steaming sports at this point, it seems most the games i wanted to play arent available. thats okay. i am going to use it when gta 6 comes out and other new games come out on steam. i dont regret the purchase i got it on sale for 387$. so far just have a 256gb sd but planning to get 1 tb sd when i actually play games. i wish this had android play store too or something.
I never thought I'd want/need a handheld like this but getting older and having kids definitely has changed that. And now I have the OG and the OLED version and I can stop recommending these to people!
The Steam Deck is where all gaming will move to if batteries and APUs get enough dev progress and you can easily stream to any screen. At least before some sort of goggles becomes a thing.
The Steam deck sure is an amazing piece of tech, I'm kinda like you I don't have time to dedicate to gaming anymore so the Steam Deck is perfect for me since I'm always working.
About the case... I like being able to lock my deck in its case. Screw it that its a bit bulky, the fact that I can put a pad lock on it makes all the difference to me. Also its a hard shell case, definitely preferable.
Actually I have a lock on my Linus Tech Tips's backpack. If you really look closely you cane see they are just clips that look like loops with a lock but I am just decreasing theft from glances and I mostly keep my bags guarded. I got the key for the look in case I need to open it in places I do not trust.
@@minisithunknown5568 i think they meant that having the hard case as added protection inside a backpack is better too. Besides the lock, just having the device loose in someone’s pack could get it all scratched and such.
I have been dying to buy Steam Deck or Jailbroken PS4 for my family to play with. I want to buy Steam Deck since I already have Xbox controllers and games on steam, but I'm afraid that it won't be as beautiful as on TV and most PC games don't support split screen if we want to play FPS games together. I thought it's alright since we only play sports games since we love football games which doesn’t need split screen. If I buy jailbroken PS4, I won't have to worry about buying games since I can just download it online and all games is optimized for it, but I'm afraid new games will not support it later. Also, my brother want to play online with friends too, but isn't split screen enough? I already got the money to buy both, but I got news that our parents car need repair. So, I used all my saving to buy both console on repairing my parents car 😅 I'm thinking of trying again since I've been dying to play latest games like other people, if not, I don't think I can fulfill my promise to my younger self to play video games as much fun as I want back then.
I love the part when you said, "the ps5 reignited my love for gaming... to the point that I actually built my first pc" hahahah welcome to the PC Master Race 😎🤙

I love how you titled this video. Way too many people think the OLED and LED deck are different generations. They aren’t. They’re the same device with one utilizing a better battery and screen. Every other “improvement” was so minimal it’s kind of a joke to even mention it.
For someone who owns a mac and only have a budget to have 1 laptop for at least 5 to 7 years, steam deck is a god send!! The fact that you can't play games on M1 macs it sucks but the idea of playing those games on a hand held gosh!! Valve you son of s gun!
There is other launches you can use that let you use your epic games. The only game that you can play is fortnite but you literally can just boot windows and play it on that too. It's essentially still a PC you can do whatever you want to it
I use Heroic Launcher and have not had any issues so far with both GOG and Epic games (other than 1 game that didn't seem to want to run). The nice thing is that you can then add those games into steam as non-steam games so they show up in the default UI in your library.

Playing in bed is awesome too! It's so convenient. 👌🏾
You should be whipping out something else when you want to chill with your wife.
The Steam Deck does sound perfect for you! 😊
Oh man. That’s frustrating.
Thank you for watching! 🙏🏾
That’s awesome! Best of both worlds! ☺️
Dude excellent review that I totally related too. Self employed makes turning work off hard, and having that downtown in the evening always turns into more work time for me. Even if it’s just emails from my phone on the couch while Office runs for the 1,000x.
It's awesome!! Happy to hear you are enjoying yours!
Just get one you will not regret it ..had mine for a year now
I love my deck.
Thanks for sharing that! The SD is pretty awesome!
Awesome review and loved your videos format!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Handheld. This was my first video of yours. You have a new sub! Thank you for creating and sharing, sir.
Thanks for the sub! I truly appreciate it! 😊
The best game to start with is Aperture Desk Job, its funny and gives you an over view of the controls of the deck.
I was too eager to play FireWatch 😂
Handheld just bought one today. Late to the party but I can't wait for it to arrive.
Better late than never! Welcome to the club! Hope you enjoy it! 😊
Hello great video I am new to pc gaming I do not have a pc but I just bought a steam deck and I’m a big fan of red dead and dayZ one of the reasons I bought a steam deck is because I wanted to mod those games can you mod dayZ and red dead on the steam deck?
I'm not big on modding. I'm sure you can look it up on Reddit 😊
If been trying out monster hunter world on the steam deck, and while it is not verified, the playability of the game on the steam deck is amazingly good.
Also I just learned a few days ago that you can pause the game with a short power button game, and continue it where you have left it afterwards
That’s awesome! I’m happy to hear that you are enjoying your SD! 😊
Handheld! nice review for steamdeck. I bought mine this year too and very satisfied with the portability of the device, its just for the accessories that it is quite a bit hard to order here from the philippines. Hope I can get the jsaux cooling fan at carry case soon. Keep safe kabayan! LOL
Salamat! 🙏🏾
Awesome review dude! Well scripted, shot and covered all the relevant points. Keep it up!
Thank you!! 😊 I’m glad to hear that!
@@JonImperial I’ve just placed an order for mine. Very excited!
nice video! UA-cam suggested me this video because I love the Steam Deck and I truly liked it!
Thank you! Do you have one?
Not yet because I have a very nice HP Omen Laptop for portable gaming, but I'm super interested. Have a great weekend 😊
Handheld! I am hesitating on getting my Steam Deck... 419€ is pretty expensive but I eventually will get one... let's maybe wait until some sales... thanks for the video!
Thank you!! Not sure when the device will go on sale again. Probably it’s 2nd year anniversary which is February.
Me too currently owned a steamdeck..i just received it in this week and currently playing The Division..its an old game,yes..but thats what i want to play since its 1st release..sadly im not working at one place for long time and never had any consoles..this my 1st time owning a real portable gaming console and im really going deep into it 😄
That's awesome! Older titles are perfect for the Steam Deck! Which model did you get?
I bought the 256gb..ur right..so far my Steamdeck excels 😄 im also a type of ppl that want to play games..but hardly more than 2h per session..
Not only that Steam Deck can be use as your handheld laptop similarly as other tablet PC's which is also great for last minute productivity work, specially if you're familiar with Linux OS's.
Have you taken advantage of that? I don't see myself doing that, but that is actually a good point!
This is the exact content im looking for

Can you make video about emulation on steam deck by causal player prespective?
Thank you so much for the sub!
I'll see what I can do. I'm hesitant, because using emulation, does not appeal to me as a gamer. I can't think of games I would want to play, but never say never. 😊
Can you use your Microsoft account for the steam deck for the games or is it just for the PlayStation ecosystem
Handheld!
Great Video, great content, great conclusion! Thank you for that!
I appreciate it! Thank you so much for watching! Are you in the market for one?
The ROG Ally is definitely interesting. I would love to test it out for myself. 😊
Handheld! Great review. Love the casual gamer perspective. Made it more relatable for me.
I'm glad to hear that! When I was researching, the question I kept thinking was "is it still enjoyable even if I don't emulate, play as much, etc."
I wonder if Best Buy get the steam deck available on their storefront eventually?
I doubt it. If Steam is truly losing money on the Steam Deck, they can't afford to put it in retail. They'll lose more money. 😊
U gonna get the asus rog ally?
I'm not sure. It is intriguing though. 😊
Sounds like an amazing system for last gen AAA gaming and emulators
It's really great! Are you thinking of getting one? Or maybe the ROG Ally? 😁
XD
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience. 😊
Red Dead II is verified? Thanks for your video!
It’s not verified but “playable”. I think Rockstar is the only hiccup. 😊
Handheld! Got mine last year and love it! Yayyy! 😊
That's awesome! What games do you play?

I'm hoping to get my hands on the ROG Ally ASAP and try to provide some insight. 😊
Like I said in my video, I have had no issues running some AAA titles. I think you need to manage your expectations though.
When I saw “ e. Dimond “ on that Best Buy, I knew that looked familiar. Lol
😂 you in Anchorage too?
@@JonImperial haha yea man! Good review by the way
One of my favorite games to play on the steam deck has to be the sims 4, it almost feels like your playing it on your console, except the screen is much much closer, and you can mod the game as well. When I discovered the steam deck I was blown away, I play for far longer than I should, to the point where my parents had to take away my computer so I didn't screw up my grades, well. Turns out the way they placed my computer (upside down) the graphics card fell out and broke, so my parents are getting me a steam deck to replace it, I have a lot of free time since I'm only 17, but I still feel as though I'll find a great use for this
Sorry about your graphics card!
@Jon Imperial its fine, losing a 3060 sucks, but stuff happens what can you do? 🤷🏽♂️
at 2:45 you said you wanted a bigger screen & OLED panel. Valve listened to you
I know!! I’m so happy! Loving the OLED! 🙌🏾
I think you'll enjoy it! 😊 Thanks for watching.
Hope you like it! What’s the first game you’re planning to play? 😊
It’s awesome! I think you’ll like it. 😊
Hand Held, This seems like a good buy. I love that you did research instead of just buying it and just going with the flow of things and wasting money
I honestly watched too many videos before buying. 😂 Thanks for watching! 😊

Thanks!

Great review bro. Adulting changes how i play now especially when i have kids. I rarely play now and the steam deck does it for me. I ordered the Asus Rog Ally... canceled it yesterday because Steam deck i feel is better and really has a good backing behind it. Your battery pack tho- legit! 😊

just wait until upscaling becomes top technology, the ability to play games on large screens with good looks may not be too far away.

The Steam Deck is where all gaming will move to if batteries and APUs get enough dev progress and you can easily stream to any screen.
At least before some sort of goggles becomes a thing.

About the case... I like being able to lock my deck in its case. Screw it that its a bit bulky, the fact that I can put a pad lock on it makes all the difference to me. Also its a hard shell case, definitely preferable.
The included case is definitely awesome! It’ll be my travel go-to. For around the house, the Waterfield Designs works well for me. 😊
Actually I have a lock on my Linus Tech Tips's backpack. If you really look closely you cane see they are just clips that look like loops with a lock but I am just decreasing theft from glances and I mostly keep my bags guarded. I got the key for the look in case I need to open it in places I do not trust.
Prefers original case too. And the backpack also being padlocked is a good idea. Double protection.
So, I used all my saving to buy both console on repairing my parents car 😅
I'm thinking of trying again since I've been dying to play latest games like other people, if not, I don't think I can fulfill my promise to my younger self to play video games as much fun as I want back then.

It is! I am from Alaska. 😂
My problem is that 75% of my games are from other store such epic store
I am not speaking from experience when I say this, but I think there's a workaround for it! 😊
