After I got my first LCD Steam Deck... I sold my gaming PC, my xbox, my playstation and my switch... then I upgraded to a SD OLED LE... never going back. Also been a PC gamer my whole life, but this is it, this is the PC gaming revolution we were all waiting for. The Deck OLED is just majestic.

I get paid very little (I'm only a part-timer while in college), so I was afraid I'd regret shelling out $400 for a Steam Deck, but I've been loving it! It's so much fun to play games from the comfort of my bed, especially since my laptop is too crappy to play games.

I've had my deck since it was first released (well, 3 months after, when it arrived).
I've got an SD storage device with a ton of USB adaptors, and a dock with a replaceable M.2 SSD.
I carry those in a Jsaux carrying case, along with a spare power block, HDMI cable. In my bag, I have a portable screen, 11 controllers (including a wii-mote).
I take these to college, and occasionally even get to pull them out for work.
I carry a mouse and keyboard and essentially treat it like a more playable laptop.
It is for work and play.
What I love the most about it is that it can be played ANYWHERE. On the bus, in the office, in bed, on the toilet...
It's like the Gameboy I played as a kid, but playing PS1, PS2, GBA, romhacks and mods ON TOP OF brand new games!
    I've been playing Helldivers 2 and it's a BLAST!

Steam Deck is a gaming machine with almost no friction. Playing games on PC sometimes feel like a ritual. You have to sit at that chair that never feels entirely comfortable, boot up the PC, boot up the game, watch loading screen. It may not be much effort, but sometimes you don't feel like going through all that just to play a simple indie game. With Steam Deck, you just push a button and start playing, right from where you left off last time.

  • @alecrisser12
    @alecrisser12 3 місяці тому

What are the main reasons I like the deck is because it's the most PC gaming device. I have the LCD model. Since my gaming laptop bit the dust, I haven't had the money to invest in a new gaming PC, until the Steam Deck showed up. Playing any kind of demanding PC game is quite a novel experience on the Deck. It makes me feel like I'm in the future. Yet at the same time this machine can bring me back through emulation. I've enjoyed playing classic games that I did and didn't grow up with, often with a more comfortable control scheme and better aesthetics. I've also enjoyed playing old games that I never owned but always wanted. Wind waker, and Twilight princess for example. Also, I've always been a fan of Linux, so when I heard a linux-based gaming handheld was coming out, I was quite excited.

I love my OG Steam Deck. It has allowed me to really hit my backlog and get through some games when I have a few minutes to play here and there while away from the house. I enjoyed playing the Walking Dead Telltale games, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and many others. I grew up on PC gaming before transitioning to consoles as well. The Steam Deck has brought PC gaming back to my #1 platform. Also, Emudeck is phenomenal for playing those 6th and 7th Generation games as well as the true retro games.

Ive been gaming on a low mid tier PC and a past gen gaming laptop but the moment i loaded up Judgment on the steam deck, it was like my love for gaming got replenished. A year later im able to finish my backlogged games way back from 2013 and even play game’s released this year like Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth.

(watching from my ally) Handheld PC gaming has been a game changer for me. I got the device expecting to be unimpressed and take advantage of best buy's return policy. But the opposite happened. If the steam deck was available in store I probably would have got one to test/buy, but I didn't want to buy one through valve because I wasn't confident I'd like the experience.

I think the main reason I haven't bought this near perfect machine is that it would make my very imperfect, but very nostalgic retroid pocket 2+ superfluous (whatever that means). I don't want this thing to take over, cause it'll outshine the pocket in every respect (except maybe the 4:3 screen ratrio and overall gameboy aesthetic). But it's very tempting cause it is just so dang good.

I really love my deck when it works, but the stability of the system is kind of disappointing because of random crashes, bugs, and glitches. Currently, I have a bug that can potentially break my unit. There's a 50-50 chance that when going into Desktop mode, I encounter a black screen of death. So, I'll have to force shutdown my unit when that occurs. From my knowledge, frequent force shutdowns can harm the system.
So yeah, it's been 3 months now since that is happening to my unit (when the 3.5 update), and there's a slim chance that this will be fixed, as very few people are actually encountering this issue, as far as I know.
Loved my deck overall, I've got a chance to play a game that I've never played before on my PS.

I think the Steam Deck is the greatest gaming device 🐐 I’ve ever purchased in my entire life and I’ve owned like 20+ different home consoles mixed with handhelds before.
Steam Deck is not my personal favorite, but it’s the greatest gaming device I’ve ever bought. I believe in time, it can be my favorite. I’ve owned the Vita for nearly 7 years and I don’t ever recall gaming on it much as my Steam Deck during the last 12 days I’ve owned it. Same applies to my Switch Lite.
I bring my Steam Deck with me all the time. It’s usually placed in the back of my car and when I have downtime since I’m a delivery driver, I’ll play it. And I don’t just play like 10-15 minutes spurts. I’m talking about using the entire battery life. That’s usually about 3 hours if all my games are set to 30 fps.
Understand that I haven’t really gamed much since the mid 00s. I became more of a casual gamer. I missed out on the PS3 and Xbox 360 during their heyday. During Gen 6, I was working and dated someone. Didn’t have much time to game from 2003-2006. Then when I got a PS4 slim in May 2017, I had games for it but I mostly used it for Netflix and watching videos from an external hard drive.
It wasn’t until I bought a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 did I get back into emulation after my modded first gen iPod touch and PSP phat ran ROMs from 2008-2010. I discovered by Sept 2021 that PSP and Dreamcast emulation became excellent and GameCube and PS2 improved immensely as long as I had a powerful chip like the maligned Snapdragon 888.
Steam Deck is basically taking my PS4 everywhere with me. I know it’s probably closer to an Xbox One but you can still play God of War (2018), Uncharted 4, Spider-Man, and The Last of Us on it. You can play Metal Gear Solid 5 and the FF7 Remake. Each time I turn it off after a gaming session, I tell myself how awesome it is.
Remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t wait to open your presents on Christmas? That’s the same feeling I get when playing my Steam Deck. It’s a godsend to middle aged guys like me (Xennial) and new daddies who want to play a quick game of GTA5 while trying to put the baby to sleep.
I don’t plan to own a lot of games for my Steam Deck. I notice when I bombard any handheld with so many games, I tend to play less of it. It’s because there are so many options. My ADHD will prevent me from finishing a game because I’ll keep changing the game I want to play. That’s why I uninstalled EmuDeck. If I’m going to do that, I’d rather do that on my Flip3 or get an Odin 2.
I’ll use my iPhone SE 2022 and Vita for mostly indies. I’ll use my Switch for Nintendo exclusives. Only AAA titles released during the last 15 years will be on my Steam Deck and it’s usually an IP I’m familiar with like Final Fantasy, Uncharted, God of War, and Metal Gear Solid. I’m not familiar with Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Starfield. I’m not even into the GTA but I’m hearing GTA6 will save this gen.
I know the Steam Deck isn’t perfect. Compared to a ROG Ally and Legion Go with the Z1 Extreme, it’s not as powerful as those two. Then sometimes the games won’t launch because those games were originally developed to work on Windows. But I love mines! It’s so nice to game on it and without weaker graphics that the Switch will have. I don’t believe the Switch 2 will be that much more powerful than it when it arrives in 2025.
Steam Deck is surprisingly comfortable to game on. Inexpensive. Easy to repair. Great software and community support. I think Steam Deck will reign supreme until the Deck 2 comes out. It’s become my PlayStation for PC games since Sony isn’t part of the handheld wars anymore and the PS Portal doesn’t count as a handheld.
I do think the Deck is expendable. Once another new form factor or the successor arrives, there is no point keeping your old Deck. No worries of backwards compatibility. Same applies to the Switch if the successor is backwards compatible. It’s not like the Vita which never had a successor. So you never really get sentimentally attached because a newer one will completely replace the older one.
Let’s say a Steam Deck Lite comes out, I’d sell my current one without hesitation. I can praise my current one now as I’m still in my honeymoon phase with it, but I know I can never get emotionally attached because it’s easily replaceable. I may sell my LCD one once the used OLEDs go down to $350. Sell my LCD for $250 and add another $100 to get the OLED. But it most likely happens when Deck 2 is out.
Rather have beefier newer hardware than a more comfortable footprint but still has the same old chip. Steam Deck is already pretty comfortable as is.

Prey is an absolute modern classic, you should probably focus on that first because it's absolutely worth it, and carries on the System Shock style of gameplay.
It's really weird as a longtime Desktop Linux user, as when you guys and gals all talk about gaming on the Deck, I have to remind myself, 'hey, this applies to me too!' So right now I'm catching up on a fifteen year gaming backlog.

Couldn’t agree more. Resisted it first and then finally caved and by the time the OLED
LE model came out I had 3 decks 🤦‍♂️ but gifted one to a family member now I daily drive the OLED and leave the LCD model docked to a TV. Gets more playtime than my gaming laptop and my Gaming PC that I built myself. It’s honestly hard to understand why but it just feels so natural to grab and game versus getting yourself ready to go on any windows PC setup

I almost never buy games day 1 anymore. It started with switch but solidified with the deck. The discounts on games get insane and there are so many games that have come out over the years that I'd rather just get them and play what's new now in a few years when all the dlc, patches, and discounts get nuts. I'm in love with my deck. Can't live without now.

No need to download on pc and then transfer, since the Deck is a pc. I can download torrents, i install quacked Pc games and add them to Steam. Its a one time purchase and you get so much out of it.

Handheld PC-Gaming is everything I ever needed, it's just perfect for me. Now mostly on the Legion Go because of the bigger screen and more performance, but still using my SD quite often.

I specifically try *not* to pay a lot got PC games, in fact I have a rule that I never spend more than 10 bucks a game & aim for 5 and below. I've only broken that rule maybe 3 times for games that were about 15 and not dropping after about 3 years of owning a PC. I have over 500 PC games just from Steam and maybe a hundred more from GoG's DRM titles and little indie games from Itchio. But of those 500+ Steam says I have 183 games *verified* to work on the Deck with another 130 that should be playable. Even if it's not my whole catalog it's a HUGE number.

I sold my original SD for an Aya Neo 2..more power, better screen, etc. but the reality is that i dont get more than an hour game play for something like RDR2 or Fallout 4 on 800p high settings 30fps, plus there are constant crashes and landscape screen issues. So im thinking about whether i should get the oled SD, since from what i read it should give better battery life. Question is, should i? Is it better, i mean will it really offer me a better experience than the Aya Neo?
