I decided to leave this out of the video, but I'll say it here:
**Don't worry about your gear!!** Until you're amongst the greatest players on the planet, your gear won't be the reason you're losing. Just use whatever you feel comfortable with while you improve! Only once you feel like you're at the top of your game should you consider it a hindrance.
    Thank you for watching!

I used to have a “blame everyone but myself” mindset in Splatoon 2, and I was always losing, raging, and simply not having fun. Eventually, I learned to focus more on my own individual performance, and not let myself get unnecessarily tilted at everything. When Splatoon 3 came out, I started winning more and genuinely having fun. Mindset is a huge part of improvement!!!

The thing is that your Teammates are important if you want to win. If all your 3 Teammates are bad it is really hard to defeat all 4 enemies all by yourself. So remember, find people who can play with you. You can blame others. But also you should criticize yourself to improve your gameplay.

Don't use your specials all at once! Stagger your specials to get full effectiveness out of each of them, and to displace enemies for longer. ie; using booyah bomb to stall and push back enemies, then use a crab tank further ahead to further push back and potentially kill opponents who are still caught off guard, all the while your team can move forwards, and put pressure onto enemies.

    • @coachcookie_
      @coachcookie_  Рік тому +104

You're absolutely right! Drawing out your team's pressure as long as possible is crucial to successful pushes, especially in fast modes like Clam Blitz or Rainmaker!
I chose to simplify it to just "use your specials together" in this video, since I aimed it towards newer players in solo queue who might pop their specials selfishly. But you're right - at higher levels there are better strategies to special usage, including staggering.
Thank you for your comment! 🙏

I want to thank you for this post. I have been playing Splatoon 3 since its release and I gotta admit, I wasn’t really good at it. Aiming was very hard for me and finding my style of weapon was always a challenge. I would try a weapon out to get a feel of it and immediately disregard it right afterwards. Eventually I had an interest for the Aerospray RG and ranked it up to 4 stars. Now it did help me win some battles (mainly turf war) but I still wasn’t decently good or at least the level of where I wanted to be. I struggled in Anarchy battle and could never get past C rank. I finally got fed up and looked up sources and booked up on your channel. I paid attention, took your advice and gave it another try to actually try out the weapons and learned the chunks system. I finally found my weapon. Splattershot Nova and got it to rank 4 star. I am now decent at the game and elevated myself to rank A in Anarchy battle, and heavily grinding to reach S+. Thank you for your guidance and my apologies for the long paragraph 🙏🏾

Oh man- mentioning that newbies forget their special and sub is soooo true! I started playing Splatoon during the first Splatfest, Rock vs Paper vs Sissors, and I *ALWAYS* forgot that I could use my sub and special!
I’ve been playing the game for a few months now though and I’ve been playing with friends, rewatching gameplay and of course, taking breaks!
I was actually terrified of playing ranked a few weeks ago (besides Splat Zones, cuz Splat Zones is fun lol), but thanks to my friends I’ve been getting more familiar with Clam Blitz, Tower Control and Rain Maker! I moved up to B- yesterday and it feels really rewarding despite not really getting any perks out of it xD
Me and my friends also love watching each other’s replays or our replays that we’ve played together- it really is great looking from someone else pov or someone looking at your pov to improve!
I did actually take a break from the game during the Pokemon Splatfest, mainly because I had joystick drift on my left joycon and it was really frustrating to play and it’s probably the reason why I raged quit from the game since I couldn’t play properly, but either way it was a good break to focus on other things! I was then given a pro controller for Christmas so I was able to play properly again! But thennn I took another break and didn’t really participate in the Spicy vs Sweet vs Sour Splatfest and the Chocolate Splatfest (though my friends tell me it’s good I didn’t participate since those two Splatfests were apparently hell lmao) BUT yeah breaks are always helpful !!
I’m not sure why I wrote so much- oops, great video though and will definitely keep your points in mind!

I main the splatlings, Splatoon 2 I was the mini, in 3 I’m the heavy. So as the heavy I have sprinkler, don’t underestimate the sprinkler. If someone comes up behind me and I didn’t see them I can throw down a sprinkler and move for a more comfortable range. The sprinkler can also ink their feet slowing them down just enough for me to do a partial charge and splat them.
Wave breaker is my favorite special on any splatting I’ve ever played. I have try to throw it in annoying places that forces enemies away from the objective. I’ve also used it as bait, throwing it right under my feet to lure enemies to come within my range. Once they are in range it’s either my weapon or the wave breaker that will splat them.
I’ve also taken note of my weaknesses and one of them is short range combat, I’ve dealt with this by moving from a back line position to a mid line position, so I can practice when people get uncomfortably close. Snipers are another weakness to me as they usually out range me, I try to support my team so a front line or faster weapon can splat them, or if that’s not working then I will try to move up to splat them and quickly move back to my position. I never stand in one spot for the whole match, I try to move around behind my team to protect our coverage and our base. Some guns also out range me like the jet but I try to go around that by pressing on them with another teammate and since my fire rate is faster I can do more damage before they do I will be the one who can walk away from it.

This will help you find good defensive / offensive or platforming positions for your weapon on each map - especially useful for figuring where you're most effective during a push or defence. You'll sometimes be surprised at what areas you can reach - or not quite reach! - with certain weapons.

One of the really useful tactics we've learned besides doing callouts is to have our leaders announce a form of play to better oranganize ourselves. Some of those would be yelling offense. offensive painting, defensive, and defensive painting. Depending on the gamestate each of these have their own use. These have tactics have helped us win scrimmages more often.

It's literally just a time and experience thing. I'm generally better so I get the gawks of awe when I'm playing with others.
While they may see me as a gahd who constantly grinds for harder challenges, they simply don't know that I've been playing say, tekken since I was a kid.
Mechanical skill is roughly 10% of being gud. The other 90% is understanding the game, how it's being played, and how you can change the variables into ur favor.
Such as splatoons where a viable S+0 strat is waiting for your teammates to use special or be in position so you can use yours.
Keep at it my guy, just try to understand the game more than wats typical of ur rank and you'll climb atleast weekly. We'll up to S rank that is.

In my experience, the best way to learn how to go against a weapon is to play it yourself, even if only for a little bit. If you have trouble against sloshing machine, use it for a while to learn the ins and outs of it. You nay notice (how the weapon is absolute bullsh-) that sloshing machine is a slow weapon, and it is also pretty ink hungry. Something that I find particularly helpful (because I am the resident rager) is to play turf war or some singleplayer in order to cool off. I personally don't cool off just by putting the game down. I just *have to* keep playing to have that 1 or 2 matches that get my mood up. Turf war can help with this due to the fact that it is mostly occupied by players of lower skill, which makes it easier to make your end performance look better, which in turn makes me feel better. Singleplayer helps because of the same reason of it being easier than playing ranked. It also has the upside of making you accept that any mistakes you might make are because of yourself.

Here’s a tip for tri strike: if you learn to throw the strikes so they all land at the same time, you will make the special more likely to splat whoever you’re throwing it at. The way I do it is I throw the first one up in a high arc, then the other two get thrown in lower and lower arcs so they all go off at the same time. By doing this, the players you force to move have to dodge left or right, if they don’t they get splatted.

I just want to thank you for this excellent video. Your positive attitude and well thought out philosophy truly hit home.
I’ve never played first or third person shooters. It is completely outside of my comfort zone. But I love paint and ink and have s2 a shot. It is now my favorite game! I only started in April so I have a long way to go and much more to learn but this video backed up my perception that if I persevere, I will grow as a player.
I look forward to seeing more of your work.
    Thanks again

Here's a tip. I hear a lot of people say that motion controls are the true superior way to play. But unless you're super high level, it doesn't matter all that much. Just, if you play stick controls, put the sensitivity on the higher end.

I've been playing this game since the first one came out and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I clicked immediately on this video. Not because I'm wrong but because I thought this video said "How to get *food*". It was an enjoyable and shockingly intricate video well worth the time either way. Hopefully, we will get a method to obtain multiple drink and food tickets. I need them desperately.

Another thing that I find really useful as a new player is figuring out *why* I like my main weapon so much.
I main the Aerospray, because it has good ink saving, and I get consistent splats with it, even if it's terrible for long range.
I love the fizzy bomb, because even if it's less likely to splat players than the other bombs, it leaves a trail that I can swim down and charge up ink. It's helped me get out of a tough spot where I would've been splatted, and even if I get splatted, it can still go off 3 times and splat someone even when I'm already down.
I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEE the Reefslider, because it covers a decent area, while being easy to charge up in most cases. I can use it when i see an enemy distracted, and I've been able to splat 3 players at once (ESPECIALLY in anarchy battles or splatfest 3-team turf wars.)

When I started I was constantly swapping between weapons trying all weapons untill I found the one that worked for me, after a while I found the paintbrushes, rollers and splatana swippers worked best for me so I swapped between them until I found that I preferred the splatana swipper. So if you had just started playing swap between weapons untill you find 3 that work for you and pick one of them. (This was not that long ago)

Going through S rank into S+0 you really have to start thinking how your weapon & special can support your team. I play Heavy Splatling with a few off weapons for different modes/maps, but I try to give my front liners room to poke (laying down suppressive fire, making sure they have ink under their feet in a fight, throwing a sprinkler to meat shield for them). There are games where I have to be the main kill threat, and there's games where I have to stay alive just to give a good jump point, but the easiest way to rank up is playing selflessly to fill the role your team needs in that specific comp.

It’s always important to know how you play, and even if that sounds dumb, most people have habits that they don’t realize and it could be hurting your growth. For example, I learned that I play very head on, not really paying much attention to my surroundings. By now I’ve gotten better and I do this less often and it’s helped me to better understand situations in the process

About that part of changing playstyles. Since I got the game my goal was to collect every weapon. And to do that I played with different weapons until I got one star then moved to the next. Focusing on a single weapon was never my thing even if I knew I was better with some weapons rather than others. Like you said solo quque is the worst, because even if you stick to the roll your weapon has its a sure way to lose.

There is an exception for #1, though, mainly for skirmishers like brushes and tetra dualies. with these weapons, your main goal is to try and flank your opponents, either providing a distraction to let a frontliner kill the opponents (ex. splash) or potentially trading with the opponent, turning it into a 3v3 while entrusting that the frontliner can manage to get a kill, too, potentially turning it into a 3v2 for example.

I totally agree with everything in this video, when you were talking about growth really resonated with me due to just getting people that have no desire to learn cause they have so and so play time and hours
Also when you talked about weapon swapping I used to be a brella main but had to stop cause everyone kept using close range so to support them I chose a longer range splattling so I could cover them better and thats really improved my win ratio miss my brella tho so might try again
