Well, by seeing that you have over 100 of every kind of chunk, I trust the process that you do when committing a science. Keep up the great work, Vasko!
It's still worth mentioning that once you have gears that you use oftenly and you are done farming bonus with them, you can effectively make them 4 or 5 stars, because if you use those gears 90% of time + XP tickets too you end up farming gear passively quite a lot. However, only on the ones you use the most, and the ones you are done farming with, otherwise it's a waste of money 👌
100 percented story mode - all collectables, map, got my bear ears bandana, etc....but somehow I never knew that there was a search drone that gives me stuff for 999 eggs. Thank you so much!
I've seen every chunk farming video probably possible and I think this is by far the most accurate and useful one. Nice vid Vasko Also mad respect for like 100 of each chunk
Surprised you didn't talk about how each ability slot takes more than the previous to fill up. In terms of max chunk rate, the fastest way to grind chunks would be scrubbing your gear after the first ability slot is filled, though obviously this becomes expensive quickly. If you have money to burn I don't think it's such a bad idea for the splatfest tee though, since it's 10x cheaper to scrub.
Yeah this only makes sense for the splatfest shirt, otherwise you'll be broke super fast. But then again, mentally its more efficient to just play until you have a ll3 slots and scrubs than to stop every game to scrub. Although scrubbing at the 1st gear of the splaftest shirt is optimal.
@@VaskoGames Yeah, I've been splitting the difference and scrubbing my splatfest tee after filling two slots, just so I don't have to jump out of matchmaking every other game or so.
That might be slower than just scrubbing every 3 slots, because you’ll have to jump out of the lobby to go in the plaza, sit the loading times of going back and forth, talk with Murch… nah man it’s not worth it, not even for speed.
one thing i thought of recently (that can be quite expensive) is ordering gear off of inklings in your plaza with your desired chunks on them and then scrubbing it. this is more rng based considering Murch loves to give people gear with no slots/abilities despite ordering something with 3 of the same ability on it, but if youre willing to fight Lady Luck then it's one way to somewhat snipe chunks you want
You can use Leanny's Seed Checker to determine the seed of Murch / Spyke and you would then know exactly on what day to order what you want since it is very rare that you actually get more than 1 Secondary Ability of what you ordered. By the way, whether you get the exact Primary Ability and all Sub Abilities of the Gear Piece that you ordered is not random, i.e. you almost always get the original Primary Ability of the Gear Piece as it is offered in the in-game shop and on rare occasions (again, check Leanny's Seed Checker for when that is) you actually get the one that you ordered, because all the other (non-original) Primary Abilities are either of Gear Pieces that players ordered from the Splatnet Shop, or from players that replaced the Primary Ability by themselves by exchanging 45 Ability Chunks with Murch / Spyke. The original number of slots of Secondary Abilities of the Gear Piece offered in the in-game shop also almost always determines the number of slots of Secondary Abilities that you get when you order a Gear Piece from Murch / Spyke unless it is one of those rare occasions.
Gaming/technology in general for me:baffled and frustrated,do they forget people have work and responsibilities,so would rather just got to a shop in game and buy said ability to fit said style,so they know when they finish work they can actually know that when they put a game on,in this case Splatoon 3 they will relax and enjoy playing it,even when they keep losing battle after battle. Hate having to keep refilling my ink because I only have one refill/ink saver ability.Totally ruins this game for me,this obtaining the ability you want instead of choosing/buying it,even more than the disconnects.
Thanks for the tips Vasko. I find that all the stuff about the ability chunks gets super confusing to me. This is probably the most informative information out there
Why is it that all the Splatoon 3 videos I watch from Vasko nowadays are just him commiting a science and mass calculations, I’m not trying to hate or anything but oh boy he does a lot of math and explanation, it’s really deep and I love it. Thank god this video showed up on my recommended, i have FIVE gear sets i want to get, and ive only gotten one so far (keep in mind, i have had and have been grinding chunks in this game since LAUNCH), so this is such a major help
I think a good last advice here is. Using multiple copies of an ability chunk also has a great reduction in efficiency. Like, most of the time one diffirent ability (eg, quick respawn) is better than a 3 stack of the same one in terms of efficiency. Except for a bomb or Special spam and Special Ability power up build, In that case you need a lot of those chunks for the build to be actually effective.
Yes!! I learned this the hard way, I tend to play flingza roller as an anchor and I wanted stacks of ink saver to just out-pressure the enemies. After swapping out my entirely ink saver jacket for another jacket with only the ink saver as a main (plus some secondaries on my other gear), the difference is hardly noticeable. I still get 11 vertical flicks in a row which is a pretty ridiculous amount, but my peak was 13, so not worth.
This is mostly correct but quick respawn is an exception. It scales very poorly at low quantities and only really makes a tangible difference if you're using a lot of it. Most people will tell you that 1 main and 2 subs is the bare minimum you should run. Otherwise it's not worth running QR at all.
Took me 2 months to get full special perfect gears on my Marina outfit. 5 stars on hat and 4 stars on shoes and clothing. Just using the brand and Max it to 4 stars with the drink ticket it has.
I HAVE A TIP Alright it's kinda expensive and you can only use it during splatfest times but if you use your splatfest tee you can scrub it everytime you get a new chunk (which only costs 2000) and if you win a match with a drink it only takes one game, so in theory you can get a chunk every game, that's how I grinded out 15 intensify action chunks for my shoes to finish my denji build!
Personally, my big goal is to just fill out all the gear SOMEHOW. Like, I don't care what the abilities are. Because I had so much unused gear when I switched from Splat2 to Splat3 and I think it'd be fun to just have everything rolled. It takes awhile, clearly, but the numbers on how much a drink ticket does is very useful to me! Also how they work! So that I am not just using them randomly. (BTW, I only have 3 pages of hats with an unrolled ability, out of 8 pages of hats owned total!) All that to say, thank you for your science, it's very good to know.
There is another way to farm ability chunks, though it's a bit more situational than the conventional methods. If you have a surplus of certain abilities you know you won't use much, you can play Salmon Run to get gear with the ability you want as its main slot, then change the main ability to a main exclusive ability by using 15 chunks of 3 other abilities each. You'll get back 6 chunks of the desired ability by doing this and it's easily repeatable because you can earn the same gear piece with the desired ability again by playing more Salmon Run.
The thing I don't see anyone talking about. It's like the most important part of you ask me and that might be because it's obvious. But you want to get 60 pieces of scrubbed gear before using a drink ticket. That way you can wear a whole set of blank gear into each match while the drink is in effect, and get 3 rolls in a single turn.
Alright I want to point this out as I find one exception for when it comes to leveling up abilities with sea snails. (If I'm wrong please correct me) amiibo gear cannot be bought in a shop unlike other brands and can only be obtained by the amiibo it comes from. Unlike grizco gear where you can swap the equipment for chunks by doing salmon run (also idk if you counted that in your equation or not love to know) you only get amiibo equipment ONCE. On top of that you only start with 2 gear slots per amiibo gear. Unless you can star it up by unlocking chunks by winning battles (which I believe you cannot do if I'm not mistaken) the only time you should be able to use the snails for star up is to unlock a gear slot. You only need to do so for amiibo gear and maybe grizco if the hat you really like is out of rotation. (But you can still get it possibly through pink capsules) just thought i mention this fact
I’m pretty sure grizzly gear doesn’t allow you to stack for stars and only allows you to scrub or trade and you just have to be lucky to get a 3 slot but I might be wrong I’m new to this game
Play during that week you get the splatfest tee and keep scrubbing after you unlock a single ability chunk. It only costs 2k instead of 20k. 1 win in turf is 1 chunk. Happy farming
a thing i do to collect chunks is that when there is a random weapon rotation on salmon run, i play until it takes too long to get a capsule, while it stays fun to get a different weapon :>
Thank you for the video, yeah grinding for chunks is a pain, I hope I can get enough run speed so I can put it to a fresher gear for my set BTW I like your voice
I didn't know that about the drinking for the worse chunk thing, that sounds super helpful! However, in my experience, rerolling with snails is super worth it if you have 3 abilities on a gear with a favorable brand. This past splatfest I used all 21 of my snails on rerolling for Main Saver, and I got about 23 chunks in maybe 10 minutes, and I'd gotten the other 22 I needed for a main slot from scrubbing the splatfest tee every time it filled one slot. It was super relieving to cut so much time out of the process since I'd already spent way, way too long on the rest of the build ^^'
Rerolling is actually not worth it imo, since I can just get coins and coin tickets from SR and use that to scrub if I need to on random casual gameplay gear it's painfully slow but I still don't wanna use Sea Snails like that.
@@AnEmoHerrscher The reason I feel it's beyond worth it is because I built two sets competitive gear, one without snails and one with, both starting at 0-3 chunks for every ability I planned on using. Without using my snails, it took me three or four weeks of mindless grinding every day and spending an enormous amount of cash I could use in other places. With the snails, I finished the other set in just about a week. The only reason to hold onto them is if you plan to get amiibo gear in the future that you'll want three slots on, and even then, it's one snail per gear to get them to three slots, I think. If not, then it's two, which still isn't a lot. I do understand not wanting to use the rare resources in games, but they're always there for a good reason ^^
Don’t forget about about the catalog bonus. It a bit of RNG but it could potentially give 10x chunks of each if you’re very luck. It able to get you a few extra chunks while you just playing a bit of Salmon Run / Anarchy / Turf War. If you’re new I suggest you to watch the Vasko vid of exp farm to learn how to unlock faster.
If you already knew about Leanny's tool, why didn't you just check to see how the rolls are calculated? Leanny describes how drinks work on the "technical details" page lol
Because I like pushing for high ranks in Salmon Run, it's the best way to farm chunks for me. I roughly have 200 ability chunks from ALL abilities and I can make gear sets with ease now.
I’m impressed, but slightly disappointed that you didn’t take the math further. You set the time it’ll take to get a full 3 slots, and the odds of getting a specific ability, but not how long it would take (on average) to get X amount of chunks for a specific ability. If your looking at the best odd (30%) then it’ll take you 4 chunks to get 1 of the ones you need, or to put it in a simpler way, for every 11 rerolls, you’ll get 10 chunks, and that’s the magic number we’ll be working with. Now let’s take a look at how many you’ll need, to put the first ability in, it’ll take 10, the second 20, and the third is 30, for a total of 60 chunks needed, but seeing as it’d probably be a good idea to start slotting in when you already have one, let’s take the first 10 off. That means we would need to go through 55 rerolls to get a full set (assuming perfect odds) which means, if your playing with 2 star gear, would take 2,475 minutes, assuming you had the drink active the entire time, if you don’t (which might be the case since I know I don’t have that much to last the whole time) it’ll take 3,795 minutes (I’m not going to convert it yet) and if your using 5 star gear, that’d take 2,310 minutes with a drink, or 3,410 without one. So that means with 5 star gear, you’ll be spending 385 minutes (or 6.4 hours) less than with 2 star, or 165 minutes (or 2.75 hours) with a drink the entire time, which you might not have. I’m also realizing that you only get that 30% if you use a drink, so there’s an even larger difference without one. All this is assuming the best possible outcomes, winning every time, and no games that end because someone disconnected. As you can see, those extra 7 or 3 minutes saved might not seem like a lot, but they will add up a when dealing with numbers this big, and you’ll get plenty of coins from all those games. I’ll admit, there’s probably a few things I’m not considering, and my math might be off in a few places, but this is just something that’s been on my mind as I procrastinate getting out of bed in the morning.
Wait so I'm confused about the negative and positive thing with the drinks. If I wanted swim speed up, would I drink a sub resistance drink with a Krak-On brand? How does drinking the opposite effect work?
I don’t have much of a use for super sea snails in leveling up gear. I’ve leveled up my cute schoolgirl outfit and that’s it. I used the rest on rerolling to farm chunks while getting the right brand for what I want. It’s costly but worth it. I managed to get a ton of ink recovery up. Now my schoolgirl uniform has ninja squid, and my blue tinted retro glasses have LDE. And what else am I gonna spend them on?
In Splatoon 2 I just hoarded like 300 snails over the course of time. Maxed out a grizz gear that has neutral output of chunks and used 200 snails worth of rerolls to get any amount of chunks I'd ever need for the remainder of my Splatoon 2 career.
It's somewhat disappointing that the gear customizing/ability chunk economy is as time intensive/expensive as it is, but it's come a long way from the sub ability roulette that was all Splatoon 1 had.
Does the rate of chunk collection change when all of a gear's slots are full? If not, a full set of 0-star gear with a drink ticket applied could farm pretty fast
When they are full its extra slow, takes 28k exp to fill just one chunk, to go from thee "?s" to three full slots it takes 24k. So you're getting a lot more chunks by scrubbing. If you want to passively farm on built gear get it up to 5 stars so you can level it up with just 25k exp for 1 chunk (which should take around an hour to get)
It honestly fucking sucks that drinks were nerfed and don't work literally majority of the time, and I don't make this game my life like most others so I don't have over 100 chunks each of things lmao so I can't get pure gear like how I'm wanting/needing
I know ability chunks are supposed to be exclusive and special but man, I’ve played this game for 4 months (and play an average of an hour a day) and just recently got enough swim speed up chunks to grant my shirt perfect slots. It costs 30 freaking chunks for one slot! (If it’s the only slot left)
i have 2 five-star powered up pieces of gear, but both times i bought it for 200k in the shop. is it supposed to be 300k, or does it depend on sea snails?
I am definitely not salty that someone told me you don’t keep the chunks that “fall off” a full gear, absolutely not salty there was no reason to avoid getting xp on my favourite gear, not at all.
Okay I'm going to actually look into your sponsor. They are the first to actually be cheaper than Google Fi and might be worth it! If I use 1gb I pay as much as that mint unlimited plan. I hope it works in my area
So if my gear slots are all full already and I used a drink I can get chunks of the drink I had 30% of the time if I play enough? Is this a good way of getting specific chunks while wearing gear you're comfortable with? I've never done this before and the gear I want pured already has some abilities I want so I don't wanna reroll them or anything, just replace them with chunks

Because I like pushing for high ranks in Salmon Run, it's the best way to farm chunks for me. I roughly have 200 ability chunks from ALL abilities and I can make gear sets with ease now.
This video helped me a lot so thanks Vasko
That was the most convincing sponsor I've ever seen
What about Lean’s website/seed finding?
It’s undoubtedly the most effective method for building the perfect gear and it’s not technically cheating.
This video was so helpful thank you!!
2:27 I cant believe my favorite Splatoon UA-camr is using my main weapon- (Big Swig)❤🎉
Can we get a spreadsheet of this because my brain is hurting of all this new information
Keep up the good work
Thanks for this useful information 👍🏻
My tip. Just have fun and chek you're chunks evry once in a while
Thanks that helps a lot!
It's somewhat disappointing that the gear customizing/ability chunk economy is as time intensive/expensive as it is, but it's come a long way from the sub ability roulette that was all Splatoon 1 had.
very helpful chart
Does the rate of chunk collection change when all of a gear's slots are full? If not, a full set of 0-star gear with a drink ticket applied could farm pretty fast
When they are full its extra slow, takes 28k exp to fill just one chunk, to go from thee "?s" to three full slots it takes 24k. So you're getting a lot more chunks by scrubbing. If you want to passively farm on built gear get it up to 5 stars so you can level it up with just 25k exp for 1 chunk (which should take around an hour to get)
@@VaskoGames Dang, too bad
It honestly fucking sucks that drinks were nerfed and don't work literally majority of the time, and I don't make this game my life like most others so I don't have over 100 chunks each of things lmao so I can't get pure gear like how I'm wanting/needing
Very valuable information indeed 😊❤
"It's a pretty Chart... Wahoo." Lol
i need 60+ chunks for intensify action and Quick respawn 💀
Need help knowing how to upgrade my locker faster. Feel so empty inside or give tip on wat cool kids in these day. Thank you as always friend.
Just like, design tips? Or more of 'what are all the design functions'?
What is freshness for gear items? ( Shoes, headwear ect)
5:12 not true i got three action intensify EXACTLY what i was looking for
I almost got a full special charge up for clothes
Wtf splatoon content sponsored by Mint?? Crazy!
gear seeds makes building gear soo much cheaper. i only spend at most ten chunks and one or two drinks to make perfect gear.
Vasko is the goated squid
I know ability chunks are supposed to be exclusive and special but man, I’ve played this game for 4 months (and play an average of an hour a day) and just recently got enough swim speed up chunks to grant my shirt perfect slots. It costs 30 freaking chunks for one slot! (If it’s the only slot left)
i have 2 five-star powered up pieces of gear, but both times i bought it for 200k in the shop. is it supposed to be 300k, or does it depend on sea snails?
Oh the 300k is from getting the 3,4, and 5 star upgrades all together
@@VaskoGames thanks! (didn't realize that lol)
if only I had drink tickets of what I need
"enough chunks to build any gear set i like"
i only see 87 swim speed chunks though (splash and ttek splattershot player here)
5:45 awesome chart but what about Cuttlegear?
Some brands don’t have their favorite and unfavorite abilities
Winning every turf war? Well that's impossible for me.
I just look out for players with cool cloths that has decent abilities and then i just order them
Helpful as always! Thank you so much for committing this science!! 😂
i had the perfect piece but then it got the ability i least wanted on the third one argggg
Thank you for your hard work and dedication so I didn’t have to use my brain 👍
Super video!!!
6 minutes saved every hour is a lot of time saved since most people play for hundreds if not thousands 9f hours
yes more science!
TYSM OMG
Do ability’s stack??
Ryan who? You mean Pikachu
hit me with those NUMBERS thank you!!!!!! science!!!!!!!
I hope it works in my area
when is that vid on the sheldrone coming?
I was sleeping through my statistics class so I still understand nearly nothing lol
Congratulations on 105k subscribers! Did you make a 100k subscribers video?😕 I don't remember. 😥
Oof I spent all my sea snails on I AM COMFUSED!!! WHAT IS THE BEST WAY? gear star boost (it was ninja amibo suit)
10:53 when you max out a gear sub ability and level up you still get a chunk?
Lol my plan is 100gb free calls and texts just for €7.99
So if my gear slots are all full already and I used a drink I can get chunks of the drink I had 30% of the time if I play enough? Is this a good way of getting specific chunks while wearing gear you're comfortable with? I've never done this before and the gear I want pured already has some abilities I want so I don't wanna reroll them or anything, just replace them with chunks
