    One of the neatest things I ever saw was this Star Trek game on the Super Nintendo, where you had to play the Kobayashi Maru, and of course no matter what you do, you fail. However if at the start of the game you entered your name as James T Kirk you could actually hail the Klingons, who recognize Captain Kirk as a legendary warrior of great renown, and they stand down, allowing you to rescue the Maru.

Medical yeah there is all kinds of crap you can catch same with regular sciences. Command seem the least risky. That said holy crap the Star Trek universe is terrifying. It's been done though I don't recall the source, there were multiple that covered it. The results were engineering, science, and ops(redshirts) in descending order of hazard iirc. There are just way more redshirts around so they take more casualties overall.

    I'd like to think Locarno and Paris are twins, but that Locarno lived with his mum and kept the maiden name, while Paris kept his Dad's name. Locarno then was redeemed during the Dominion war for rescuing Seto Jaxa from a Cardassian prison during the war, and for saving the Exeter. Paris going on the Voyager already did it for him. They were reunited in 2378.

    There were a couple of X-Men/Star Trek crossover comics, and the Federation's policy toward the "genetically enhanced"/"superhuman" came up when the X-Men put Kirk (in one) and Picard (in the other) on the spot about it. Picard, having defended Data and dealt with Q wanting to be a Star Fleet officer had a better leg to stand on than Kirk, who'd basically made a Greek God so depressed he killed himself and killed his best friend after he was exposed to energies that unlocked his latent psychic powers.
    There were also a couple of priceless moments: Someone says "Doctor McCoy!" and both Dr. Leonard McCoy, M.D. and Beast, a.k.a. Dr. Henry McCoy, Ph.D. (times 6) say "Yes?" at the same time, and in the other crossover, both Commander Riker and Cyclops (Scott Summers) comment on how much Captain Picard and Professor Charles Xavier resemble each other (Sir Patrick Stewart, of course, played Professor X in several movies, as well as playing Captain Picard).

    • @keiyakins
      @keiyakins Рік тому +1

      I'm pretty sure that X-Men mutants would be fine actually, since they weren't specifically engineered (the history is far enough ago to get the same treatment as vulcans are almost certainly getting where it's politely ignored)

    • @Solitaire001
      @Solitaire001 20 днів тому

      @@keiyakins However, I think the Federation would have an issue with DC's metahumans. Unlike mutants (who are stable), with a metahuman when their metagene is triggered it can result in any type of superhuman abilities. That's one of the reasons several alien races decided to invade Earth, they were afraid of unpredictability of the metagene.

    When one considers how Star Trek describes life on earth, it appears to be something of a techno-utopia. One could imagine people could get bored living like that (although I certainly wouldn't mind living in such a future), so one could conclude that joining star fleet would provide escape from the minutia of a nearly stress free idylic life.

    You know what I always wondered, why is it ALWAYS "lets steal our Starfleet ship" when someone wants to something they were told not to? Why does no one in Starfleet know anybody not in Starfleet that has a ship? Even in Enterprise and DS9 where civilian ships were confirmed to exist, they still would go rogue and still Starfleet vessels. I bring this up because should not some of the better civilian pilots be Starfleet Academy burnouts, washouts, drop outs, or kicked out for shenanigans?

      Sure there are other (non Starfleet) vessels around, but those are likely freighters, transports, or small personal craft. The fact is that Starfleet ships have better shields, weapons, and redundant safety systems.
      If you're heading into a dangerous situation, you want the best gear.

      I bet the times we see such miscommenderance are the only ones we see on the shows. They are the ones that stand out the most and are the most dramatic.
      Also, we know for a fact there are non Starfleet ships out there, they have been mentioned several times and even shown to us a few times.
      I think Harry Mudd's ship was the first one, or maybe the one used by the space hippies.
      We never saw Cyrano Jones ship, but it definitely existed.
      Recall that one of the personalities that briefly came out of Seven of Nine was a lady who had incurred into the Battle of Wolf 359 to find her missing son, a Starfleet officer.
      And, when Cisco and Dukot first discovered there was a war going on in the DMZ between the Federation colonists and the Cardassian colonists, they picked up civilian crafts modified for military type assaults.
      So, we don't see them a lot, but they are out there. 🛥️🚀👩‍🎤

    you should also know that a white American temperamentally unsuited to the service will get command of a starship weeks after (somehow) graduating, according to JJ Abrams.
    also, Starfeet Academy is bound to fall into the sea at some point, owing to its ridiculous location
