More Hidden Gems for Super Nintendo! Mega game collector John Hancock shows some of the awesome games he recommends for SNES fans to play and add to their collection.
Shh. You shouldn't be making these videos. The resellers could be watching and they are ready to raise the prices on these hidden gems. Whoops to late! All of these games are expensive now. Not your fault, it just pisses me off.
I've been following your channels for more than two years and I keep finding VIDEO JEWELS like this one, thank you! I will never have a collection of games, in fact I don't even have a chance to start, but thanks to channels like yours I can enjoy the old days, saludos y abrazos desde Hermosillo, Sonora, México!
So glad to see Run Saber and QBert get some love. A couple childhood favs. Some others I find get overlooked: Cool Spot, Incredible Crash Dummies, Cosmo Gang, Sonic Blastman (a brawler for ya), Boogerman andMagic Sword ( a little more common). Happy gaming!
I used to love the pirates of dark water cartoon as a kid, and I was so sad that they never got to finish the story, it just ended in the middle of the story line.
I have a channel, but it was fairly weak, as I am pretty busy working 1.5 jobs and putting on a charity video game show every year. I mostly like to cameo on other channels(mostly MJR). What I have done is constructed a collector video series that showcases my collection broken down by company. It is the Nuts & Bolts to Videogame Collecting. I currently have made 7 DVDs that covers Atari, Nintendo, Sega, and Sony(PS1/PS2/PSP). Happy to answer more questions about it.
IMO the greatest hidden gem on the SNES is ...Metal Marines!! A game that was years! ahead of its time.Back when the Genesis owned the strategy genre Metal Marines was the fighting pride of the SNES.Part RTS part city building part strategy. At the time NOTHING was even close to the depth of game play this game offered. With all the retro reviews and such this game is sadly forgotten.
I love how excited and genuinely enthused John is especially during the introduction. So great! I love the videos he is in and his channel is exellent as well, check it out!
The Bomberman Party Pack coming with the SNES multitap is a great addition. I'm surprised neither of them said anything about Secret of Mana being 3 player compatible with the multi-tap
Oh wow, I have played many obscure NES games during my youth since I lived in Asia, and that Pocky and Rocky clip gave me an unexpected nostalgia trip. I remember playing that weird game (the first one) at a friend's house and loving it. Some good obscure NES games are the Ganbare Goemon games.
Aero Figthers, Starfox Super Weekend Challenge, Donkey Kong Competition Cart, Ren and Stimpy Buckeroos, Wild Guns are just a few of the more expensive ones I am missing. I am also missing some more uncomon games like Chavez and Chavez II.
You both rock. Pocky and Rocky 2 deserved more of a description. The game has multiple characters you can choose from, a great soundtrack and some of the best graphics on the system. Oh, and it's hard! You forget you are playing something cutesy. Keep up the good work!
2 things. I haven’t heard “mode7” spoken in a sentence in 25 years. Also, Lethal enforcers was a favorite in my long lost childhood collection. This channel is a trip down memory lane to say the least!! Metal Jesus.. you actually do rock bro haha
Many of the ones that I am missing are very expensive. The others are ones that I want, but has risen so much in price over the last two years that I find myself debating on whether or pickup or just buy something else.
A lot of these games are expensive online... but a large number of gamers play via virtual consoles, ROMS or occasionally they just get lucky at a garage sale or swap meet. You never know so I don't really factor in price when coming up with the lists.
Great channel! Just find it and loving it! Some interesting point: I'm from brazil, and here, in early 90's, most of snes games are only pirates, usually coming from paraguay. I'm don't know why, but the blockbusters at that time are really hard to find (chrono trigger, zelda, castlevania, star fox, just to name some), the pirates didn't bring them, i had a snes and play them only years later. But in other way, Pirates bring a lot of that games you called "Hidden gems" and some of them are really popular here, like pocky and rocky, run saber, skyblazer, and others. It's really interesting se that in the US this games didn't appears much, and we've played them here in south america only because the Pirates buyed games without any logic, and casually. Keep up the good work!
The SN Program Pad was a 3rd party controller that allowed your to program in moves for fighting games into 3 curved buttons that surrounded the normal abxy buttons. It had an LCD display that showed the button presses of each programmed button. I believe they also made on for the Genesis called the SG Program Pad. My friend had the SN pad when we were kids and I came across one when I bought a large lot of Super Nintendo stuff.
John, thank you for recommending The Pirates of Dark Water! I love the tv series, but didn't know this game exists. I'm very excited to hear about this and will check it out!
I was never a fan of it but I remember when The Pirates of Dark Water cartoon came out. It was all the craze until it didn't do well and faded into a faded memory. I was addicted to playing Uniracers when it came out. Awesome game.
I've been kicking myself lately for giving my mom the okay to sell my SNES collection about 10 years ago when I was in college. I had some real gems like Ninja Warriors, Mega Man X2, Secret of Mana. Now I'm trying to rebuild my childhood haha.
capcom23 I'm well aware of emulators and roms. I enjoy playing the actual game carts though. But roms are great for playing really obscure and expensive games.
stuffnthings yup that's why I got mine, the real feel of owning it is better than any emulator, any one can say they have it in that case, but some people won't ever understand, what we feel.
NCAA basketball was my favorite basketball game on the system, Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 was really in depth as well as a lot of fun. Super Bomberman with 5 players was a blast, and got as much play with my friends and I, as SFII/T/SSFII did.
As a kid, I remember playing pocky rocky as a kid but I couldn't read so I never knew the name of the game. It took me till now to find out the name of this game. MetalJesus You Rock!
enjoyed both parts, as for hardware i know it is not a rare or obscure item, but i really REALLY love the acii pads with the autofire control switches, they're nice and durable even if eventualy the rubber gets nibbed off the start/select button.
This was actually quite interesting. I had no idea there was a large boxed version of super bomberman with the multi-tap. You learn something new every day. Good to see pocky and rocky get a mention.
On my 12th birthday I bought pocky and rocky from my local game store. I had never heard of it but was intrigued by the box art. I never really took chances on games I'd never heard of or rented before as I was a kid and had to wait for birthdays or Christmas to get new games. I took the chance and boy did it pay off! Amazing game!
One piece of hardware that I need to pick up from a store in Orange City that's unique is an arcade joystick for the SNES by Capcom. I think it was the "CPS Power Stick-SN". It featured a nice clicky control stick, an interesting button layout (which had an option in Street Fighter for remapping), 4/8-way mode switch, and (though lost often) a cable to use on the NES as well as the SNES.
There's a Bomber Man multitap in Japan that has the appearance of Bomber Man's head. I've seen it several times but haven't picked it up for some reason. Also, I was lucky enough to get a boxed Super Gameboy 2 which adds color and special borders to certain Gameboy games, it's pretty cool.
Uniracers was one of my favorite snes games when I was a kid I owned it and played it a lot. With all the tricks variant it's almost a "tony hawk pro skater" before the time.
Secret of Mana, a not obscure but very sought after game, also supports the multi-tap turning it into a 3 player game. And Eye of the Beholder was a game that supported the Mario Paint mouse.
Turrican is a great franchise, I would recommend to look for it on all the major platforms, I used to lay it on the Amiga. Great music by Chris Huelsbeck to accompany the game.
Thanks for showing the gameplay of Uniracers. I hear people mention it a lot, but no one ever shows what the game is. :P Pocky and Rocky looks a lot like Mystical Ninja. Looking forward to part 3! :)
My favorite piece of SNES hardware is the ASCII Grip. You could only import it, but it was worth it. Makes RPG playing a breeze. Also, the Super Gameboy made playing my old Gameboy collection so much more pleasant.
I have a sealed snes cleaning kit which is kinda cool. It is a game cart but on the inside has some spray and q tips etc. it's kinda cool and I haven't really seen them anywhere
I brought my friend Charlie some xbox games to play a few weeks back because that's the only system he has right now. He knows I collect retro games, so while I was there he gave me a handful of snes games that he had laying around in a box. One of them was Musya: The Classic Japanese Tale of Horror(!) definitely my best free score :-) thanks Charlie!
I remember Pocky & Rocky vaguely! I remember I loved it so much I rented it for maybe 3 weeks or so and probably beat the game more than 15 times lol. Do not remember much though, because it was one of those games discontinued not long after I finished renting it. Mighty Max and Starfox are also ones I loved, but could only rent very briefly until their discontinuation.
I loved playing The Pirates of Dark Water with my brother. Sadly only rented it and never was able to buy when the game store was selling games. We've only beat it like a few times.
The SNES mouse that came with Mario Paint was pretty rare to see people have or talk about, and I owned the SuperScope6 with a 6pak game that came with it and it also supported other games like a Yoshi one and two Metal Combat games that were pretty awesome.
Wild Guns is definitely 1 of the hidden gems on the SNES. Easily one of the greatest co-op games on the console. Excellent gameplay, graphics, music and pretty challenging.
Out of all the games in this vid, I have Musya: A Classic Tale of Japanese Horror. I guess going to a pawn shop back in the day was actually a good thing, because this vid gave me incentive to try and play it all these years later. Many thanks. \m/
Brilliant video, scribbled lots of titles down. Was surprised to hear Ninja Warriors being referred to as obscure; it was on all the computers over here. Thanks again.
You know this brings back memories about a certain feature that all Super Nintendo games had. On the top right part of the game label there was always this line some were red and some were purple. As a kid I always wondered if they meant anything, or if it was just an ascetic design. and now that I'm thinking about it again I still wonder.
I am so glad to see Pirates of Dark Water. Underrated and almost forgotten animated TV show, underrated and almost forgotten beat 'em up sidescroller by the legendary Sunsoft.
I wish you guys would put lists of the games you cover in the video description. I like looking them up afterwards and that would make it a lot easier.
Also loved the old Ninja Warriors arcade game, it had 3 screens and was super widescreen, a bit simplistic but the blood at the time was novel as was the size of the machine.
I played Uniracers till my thumbs bled as a kid. Then I switched to Killer Instint... yup more bleeding. Uniracers is still fun to this day on Super NT. Uniracers is anything but obscure. Always kept my fingers crossed for a sequel but never heard of the Pixar lawsuit until MUCH later in life.
super turrican 2 was the last new in box SNES game I bought as a kid... it was at a Kmart or Caldor store that was closing and it was during the n64 era and it was on sale for like 12 dollars or something. Dope game
I already said this in the first part, but Wario's Woods, Kirby's Dream Course, Cybernator, Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie, etc. are all fantastic underrated SNES games I'd love to see you guys cover in part 3.
Pocky and Rocky was one of the big games during the early years of the SNES. Most of the games on this list were over shadowed by Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger, Killer Instinct, Legend of Zelda Link to the Past, and so many others that were ground breaking.
If AlphaOmegaSin & I were to hang out in one spot, there would be so much spontaneous air guitaring and head banging that aliens in other galaxies would perceive our awesomeness and finally decide to officially introduce themselves to ManKind. Such is the power of concentrated Metal & Drop-D riffing! \m/
The SNES version of Ninja Warriors is a sequel to the arcade game, and plays quite differently than the arcade original, which was ported to other systems. The Japanese title for the SFC version Ninja Warriors Again. I think I mentioned this in the last SNES Hidden Gems video.
I used to play Mutant Chronicles board games. They were D & D style quests with miniatures with a mutant/sci-fi theme. Think of the old school board game "Hero Quest" mixed with some sci-fi stuff a la Warhammer 40K. Pretty cool.
Secret of Mana supports the multitap as well. Kinda weird, though, it takes some time until there are more than two characters in your party... But hey, after that, you can most definately use the multitap!
I had Turaken 2 on my Snes because we had a slow system for console release so we still bought Snes games up until we actually got the n64 six months late in our stores but we didn't know if we were getting it when we did
Doom Troopers is sweet. I know the first Pocky and Rocky is great, didn't even know there was a sequel. Same with Super Turrican. Super Turrican 2 looks really awesome.
Hello, I live in Argentina, very recently I found this great channel, I'm small collector of retro games, buy online in usa and japan, I find it hard because the postal service of my country is a mess, in my country never sold games originals were always third party, I would love to travel to your country and bring very many games, but I have no money to do way too. Greetings and Merry Christmas!!
Joe & Mac isn't so much hidden, as it is unknown by many, and it's one of my absolute FAVORITE games. I love the co-op feature, something that SMB games didn't have yet!
1. Ninja Warriors 1:17
2. Pirates of Dark Water 1:49
3. Doom Troopers 2:33
4. Uniracers 2:58
5. Pac Attack 3:35
6. Pocky & Rocky 2 4:14
7. Musya 5:06
8. Super Turrican 2 5:58
My tshirt is a mix of Star Wars and The Beatles Revolver cover called "Rebellion"... Pretty cool. I picked it up at PAX Seattle this year.
1:14 - Ninja Warriors
1:45 - Pirates of Dark Water
2:20 - Doom Troopers
2:53 - Uniracers
3:27 - Pac-Attack
4:07 - Pocky & Rocky 2
4:54 - Musya
5:45 - Super Turrican 2
More Hidden Gems for Super Nintendo! Mega game collector John Hancock shows some of the awesome games he recommends for SNES fans to play and add to their collection.
Troops of Doom!!! SEPULTURA!! \m/
Shh. You shouldn't be making these videos. The resellers could be watching and they are ready to raise the prices on these hidden gems. Whoops to late! All of these games are expensive now. Not your fault, it just pisses me off.
Your right, I was going to buy Haunting Ground for PS2 and its like 80 bucks now!!
+abysmalvsmarcus Download the ISO and use Open PS2 Loader ;)
TheGrimLordBStone Yeah I heard about that, but I never tried it. I have the slim ps2, does it make a difference?
I've been following your channels for more than two years and I keep finding VIDEO JEWELS like this one, thank you!
I will never have a collection of games, in fact I don't even have a chance to start, but thanks to channels like yours I can enjoy the old days, saludos y abrazos desde Hermosillo, Sonora, México!
Sorry, I mean VIDEO GEMS hahaha!
Troops of Doom is an old Sepultura song from their album Schizophrenia. Pretty cool that you knew that.
I used to love the pirates of dark water cartoon as a kid, and I was so sad that they never got to finish the story, it just ended in the middle of the story line.
+John Butch , that, and Thundarr the Barbarian both need remakes on Cartoon Network. He-Man got a decent one, so why not those two series?
I have a channel, but it was fairly weak, as I am pretty busy working 1.5 jobs and putting on a charity video game show every year. I mostly like to cameo on other channels(mostly MJR). When you collect as much as what I collect, it happens...
You seem like the nicest man of all time

John is such a happy person
Daniel Andrade John *is* one of the most cool, genuine and happiest dudes you will ever have the pleasure to meet. Such a great friend.
+MetalJesusRocks , I owned Musya, The Pirates of Dark Water, R-Type III, and Uniracers at one time.
+Daniel Andrade
with all those deals he got i would be happy too lol
@@Rountree1985 LOL!!! Dick!!!😂
@@Rountree1985 who hurt you?
Secret of mana supports the multitap
I never knew that growing up. I thought two was as good as it gets! Thanks. :)
Somebody got my Sepultura reference! Love that song. My favorite era of Sepultura is the Arise, Chaos AD era.
Chaos AD is my favourite Sepultura album \m/
My mom talks of meeting Igor during the vans california daze stuff, i guess hed come into the shop to buy things :D says hes a cool dude
I really like that first soulfly album that came out in 98! Wasn't that them?
I love how excited and genuinely enthused John is especially during the introduction. So great! I love the videos he is in and his channel is exellent as well, check it out!
The Bomberman Party Pack coming with the SNES multitap is a great addition. I'm surprised neither of them said anything about Secret of Mana being 3 player compatible with the multi-tap
I can feel that these 2 dudes are so down to earth. I wish them nothing but the best.
i played secret of mana with super bomberman multitap , SOM with 2 other friends was fantastic

Many of the ones that I am missing are very expensive. The others are ones that I want, but has risen so much in price over the last two years that I find myself debating on whether or pickup or just buy something else.
Uniracers is in my top 5 games of SNES. Great game, great graphics, awesome controls and addictive OST.
Pocky & Rocky! IT MADE THE LIST!
Been watching you for a couple months now and i gotta say, metal jesus is so friggin wholesome. Its impossible not to like him
A lot of these games are expensive online... but a large number of gamers play via virtual consoles, ROMS or occasionally they just get lucky at a garage sale or swap meet.

I was surprised not to see Uniracers in the first video, but all is well with it in the second. I loved that game so much in the 90s.
The multitap was supported by a lot of sports games as well. Used to play Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA Allstars 4 players.
The SN Program Pad was a 3rd party controller that allowed your to program in moves for fighting games into 3 curved buttons that surrounded the normal abxy buttons. I was never a fan of it but I remember when The Pirates of Dark Water cartoon came out. It was all the craze until it didn't do well and faded into a faded memory.

NCAA basketball was my favorite basketball game on the system, Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 was really in depth as well as a lot of fun.
Super Bomberman with 5 players was a blast, and got as much play with my friends and I, as SFII/T/SSFII did.

This was actually quite interesting. I had no idea there was a large boxed version of super bomberman with the multi-tap. You learn something new every day. Good to see pocky and rocky get a mention.
Friday afternoons at work are always a little better when theres a new MJR episode.
Taken from Wikipedia
The game is a remake of Taito's 1988 arcade game The Ninja Warriors.
I have Pocky and Rocky 1 and 2. Loved those games growing up. I still have Uniracers and Doom Troopers as well. Time to go bust out my SNES
On my 12th birthday I bought pocky and rocky from my local game store. I had never heard of it but was intrigued by the box art. Musya is exactly the title I have been trying to remember since I rented that game back in 94 or 95. Thanks!
Thank you so much for mentioning The pirates of dark water,i forgot about that cartoon which i loved as a kid,now i can watch it again
Thanks for showing the gameplay of Uniracers. I hear people mention it a lot, but no one ever shows what the game is. :P Pocky and Rocky looks a lot like Mystical Ninja. Looking forward to part 3! :)

Ninja Warriors is one of my favorite beat em ups. Glad to have it in my collection to this day.
Secret of Mana supports the multi tab. :)
3 players on S o M was the best!

I wish you guys would put lists of the games you cover in the video description. I like looking them up afterwards and that would make it a lot easier.
Man, it's great to see Super Turrican 2 getting some recognition and love. It's just SO obscure and it's really sad that people don't know it.
Also loved the old Ninja Warriors arcade game, it had 3 screens and was super widescreen, a bit simplistic but the blood at the time was novel as was the size of the machine.
Great video! Love learning about these obscure SNES games!
Street Racer supported multi tap play. Loved it back in the day
Uniracers was my absolute favorite SNES game. It's so easy to get obsessed with once you master the tricks.
Great vid MJR and John! Love those big box SNES games, def seeking them out. Pocky and Rocky 1 and 2 are awesome.
Just found your channel a great channel brings back a lot of great memories ty
I played Uniracers till my thumbs bled as a kid. Then I switched to Killer Instint... yup more bleeding. Uniracers is still fun to this day on Super NT. Uniracers is anything but obscure. Always kept my fingers crossed for a sequel but never heard of the Pixar lawsuit until MUCH later in life.

Super Turrican 2 is one of the rarest games I own. I love the Turrican series and this one has some of the best action.
The SNES version of Ninja Warriors is a sequel to the arcade game, and plays quite differently than the arcade original, which was ported to other systems. The Japanese title for the SFC version Ninja Warriors Again. I think I mentioned this in the last SNES Hidden Gems video.
I agree Pocky and Rocky is awesome! Glad I got mine awhile back.
The Hudson Soft Multi-Tap also worked for the LJN game WWF RAW :)
love these hidden gem shows. you have showed me some awesome games metal jesus and John
Metal Jesus I have been watching you for a month now and you are an awesome you tuber I have learned that so many games exist keep it up
I used to play Mutant Chronicles board games. They were D & D style quests with miniatures with a mutant/sci-fi theme. Think of the old school board game "Hero Quest" mixed with some sci-fi stuff a la Warhammer 40K. Pretty cool.
I'm definitely interested in Musya - new to me. I love the Pocky & Rocky series - it was also on GBA.
Metal Jesus... I love u man!
My childhood memories is play Uniracers on the emulator.Great music, nice graphics and the stages.
Secret of Mana supports the multitap as well. Kinda weird, though, it takes some time until there are more than two characters in your party... But hey, after that, you can most definately use the multitap!
Thank you for mentioning uniracers! I love that game. I bought it the month it came out and STILL own it to this day.
Thanks for bringing us the immortal John . Diggin his channel too. You are of course the don!
Pocky and Rocky did come out on other systems - it was in the arcade (called Kikikaikai). But I guess Pocky and Rocky 2 was only on the SNES!
