Thank you for including Battle of Olympus in your Nes hidden gems 3 video. That's an NES game I mentioned that deserves a place as an overlooked action rpg.
4:55 that Fire and Ice is such a cool game. It has 100 regular levels, but then also 50(!) hidden bonus levels as an easter egg. If the game was released today that would probably have been paid DLC.
Am I the only one who noticed the Captain N shirt (edit: no)? That's awesome! I need to watch it with my son. I have some of these games, but not all of them. Crystalis is an absolutely amazing game. I beat it again last year. GI Joe was one of my NES games, and I loved it. Still trying to pick it up again.
Pinball Quest was easily my favorite NES game next to the SMB series. I'd die 10x if they remade that gem.. There aren't many pinball games with that amount of depth in story.
The Guardian Lengend is SOOOOOOOO fun! A buddy of mine got it in a stack of NES games from his uncle years ago, and we have gone back and replayed countless times since. We were actually lucky enough to find a loose manual of it at the flee market near us for $2 a year or so ago! If John has the manual it's actually a pretty cool read and makes it gives you the names for each power up
The cover art for The Guardian Legend is EXACTLY why I never rented it at my local rental store. I can't tell you how many times I looked at that game but never tried it out! I am sure I would have liked it.
Also, I think a lot of people know this, but if you input 'TGL' as the password on Guardian Legend, it allows you to play through just the shooter sections.
@Jeffery Asa Where's you're other account, the one that agrees and goes something along the lines of "Oh wow, didn't think it would actually work, but it sure did, thanks alot!!"
It's so good. I think pretty much everything Natsume made of the NES is probably a hidden gem. They made Shadow of the Ninja too which is also great, and SCAT is a really fun shooter even if it's pretty short.
Rollergames is an awesome hidden gem on NES. Definitely needs to be in the next hidden gems video. Also, I recommend Crisis Force for Famicom, the best shmup on the system.
Uforia: The Saga Over Horizon Super Turrican Hammerin' Harry Noah's Ark Astyanax Blue Shadow Xexyz The NewZealand Story Also, the European Guardian Legend box art is one of the best for the system, it's awesome :D
i love these NES titles in no particular order: Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Punchout, TMNT, Kirby, RC Pro Am, Hockey, Excite Bike, Batman, Battletoads, 1942, All the Mario Games, All the Megaman especially Megaman 2 and Jaws.
Games I hated in particular order: Rambo, TMNT, Legend of Zelda 2, Ghostbusters, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Kid Chameleon. I'm sure theres more just cant remember them now.
shatter hand is my all time fave nes game. ive beat this game many times just to figure out the different combinations of the robots(whatever the proper name is) love it
Good video but you should mention prices. Some of these hidden gems are also expensive! Hidden gems should be special and affordable. Hidden Gems 4 will have Flinstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak and Little Samson. I've played all of these except for Fire 'n Ice and Cartoon Workshop. Bucky, Kabuki, and Shatterhand are some of my favorites. Here are the current prices for the games shown: Bucky O'Hare - $110 Guardian Legend - $20 Fire 'n Ice - $140 Rockin Kats - $75 Cartoon Workshop - $15 Kabuki Quantum Fighter - $20 Battle of Olympus - $15 Pinball Quest - $8 G.I. Joe - $40 Crystalis - $20 Shatterhand - $60
Tough making a hidden gems video on Nintendo games these days, but there were a few titles in this list I hadn't heard of. I recently played Shatterhand. Great game, has a bit of a Vice Project Doom feel to it which you covered in an earlier video.
16:41 with Shatterhand I like how you can select the last levels in any order. Other games by Natsume did this too; Tail Gator, Power Blade II, Wild Guns
I vividly remember playing Bucky and really getting into it. I was probably 6 years old, lol. Sometimes you were rolling the dice with game rentals, sometimes you won. This was a winner.
Crystalis > Zelda 1 Truth. It has the same unforgivable nature to beginners but is far less vague about what to do and where to go. Once you learn how everything works, it's super fun. The bosses are better, the music is better and it is the greatest Action-RPG on the system imo.
I cant believe that G.I Joe game is Nes !!! I've never played it back in the days when i owned an Nes and will sure visit it now to see what happens :D Thanks for the hidden Gem as always :D
I totally remember Bucky O Hare; I've never seen it reviewed before but I'm surprised it's a "hidden gem," I thought it was popular. But it may have came out at a time it went head to head with the Genesis and was over shadowed
To remove those EB game labels (former employee here) You simply just use a blow dryer on the label, and after a minute or two of hear blasting you can peel it right off
why put them on the label in the first place. there are like 20 other places you could stick them, but they chose the most important part? the only part with anything to look at?
It's about time that you included Crystalis. Love that game. Another game I have a soft spot for is Willow, which is based on the fantasy movie starring Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer.
Kabuki Quantum Fighter was by far one of my favorite NES titles from my childhood. I can't believe that so many people haven't heard of, or even played that great game.
Around 15 years ago I bought Bucky O’Hare complete in box with the ads in it for 8 dollars. At the time I didn’t know what I was buying because I never heard of the game and that was the only one I ever seen at game shops. Back then I bought games just to own. I also got a complete in box Snow Brothers at the same place for 20 dollars
For me, any Natsume game is pretty much guaranteed to be great. I played Shatterhand after EGM back in the day said it was awesome, and those guys never got it wrong for me.
omg i had the battle of olympus and completely forgot about this game. The visuals took me back like it was yesterday. So great thanks so much for sharing!!!
To me, there are no 'hidden gems' for NES since I grew up with all of'em, but with newer collectors who may not have grown up with NES, some may not have heard of many.
With the over popularized NES collecting fad. I'd say at this point unreleased hacks are now the only safe "hidden gems" excellent video as usual broskis. I had no idea about the tiny tunes game. I own it but just figured it was a platformer. I have got to take a minute and smell the roses.
I still play through Crystalis every few years as well. The game lies somewhere between the original Zelda and A Link to the Past. Easily my favorite NES games, one of my favorites ever.
Thank you, MetalJesusRocks. I am starting my video game collection over again because I have always needed to sell my video game to provide for my family. I mean to support my mom and younger brother and sister and then my ex wife. Now, I don't have to support those people and these videos are making me so happy because now i can both buy and keep this stuff. Waiting on my copy of Rad Racer to come in the mail today. Next week I should get Captain Skyhawk for NES and sonic CD and 3 Dirty Dwarves for pc. Went cheap, but not going deeper in debt, climbing out of debt. Pretty happy today watching these videos.
Bucky O'Hare and Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle are my #1 (&2) go to games. Glad to see this on the list. I find it interesting to see Bucky considered a hidden gem, because there were comics, toys, and a tv show in the 80s. Same with Tiny Toons, which has been in 2 of these videos. Tiny Toons 1 is really fun and if you're creative, the cartoon Workshop is sure to keep you entertained.
TIL John Rigg's favorite color is blue! Didn't realize that's why Blue is in the middle of your handle :P The only one of these that I have played before is Guardian Legend. Solid game!
I used to have blue hair so 'Blue' was my nickname when I started in radio. That was also the same time I used johnblueriggs at my email address. The rest is history.
I loved Kabuki Quantum Fighter! But it wasn't a young kid that went into the computer, He was a soldier of some kind. It's been a long time since I've played it.
Excellent video, +MetalJesusRocks. I can recommend you three hidden gems for the NES: 8 Eyes by Taxan, Conquest of the Crystal Palace by Asmik and Jackie Chan by Hudson Soft (also, three of my favorite games for the NES). Greetings from Mexico.
One of my Childhood games ended up being one of the rarest $5-10 games I ever ended up looking for. No one ever knows what it's about or ever heard of it. Air Fortress is awesome! It's also pretty difficult so if you're like me in the 90's, you drew level maps for the mazes you had to explore... Schmup for the approach, metroid exploration to blow up the core, then a timed escape sequence before you can progress to the next level. Without the password system no one would ever beat this game.
Mechanized attack, power blade 1 or 2, freedom force, bayou billy, code name viper, rocketeer, amagon, monster in my pocket, werewolf, frankenstien the monster returns, rolling thunder, and punisher
Rockin kats was amazing! Played that like no tomorrow, never owned it though but rented it quite often from the local mom and pop video store that used to be in town....was weird there was only about 2000 or so people in my hometown but we had 3 video stores.... 1 chain and 2 mom and pop
I highly recommend using the chemical "UNDO" for removing stickers. I've used it on all sorts of things over the years and it is phenomenal. It removes things with ease without discoloring whatever you're working on.
When I was a kid I got Pinball Quest as a present when I had chicken pox. It's hard for me to play now to this day, because I just remember how sick and feverish I was trying to play it that first time. I have a sealed copy of Shatterhand though, so that was fun to see pop up!
If you haven't already, give Trog on the NES a shot, as well as Wizards & Warrios. Both games are really fun. Trog is sort of like Pac-Man, but for 2 players. You (and another person, if they join), go around a map collecting your dinosaur eggs that were stolen by the evil cavemen known as Trogs. There are several powerups and mechanics that really make it a fun couch multiplayer title. Wizards & Warriors is a 2D platformer with RPG elements. You have unlimited continues, but your score resets after a continue, so record breakers out there beware: you'll need to practice a lot. Enemies and bosses range from Spark Mandrill to Dark Souls in terms of difficulty. Also know that your character swings his sword like a pansy, but by jumping into enemies blade-first, or landing on them with the toes of his boots, he can still do damage, which means that edge-hogging enemies are much less unfair. Both games are fairly cheap, with Wizards & Warriors costing around $5 USD, and Trog being a bit pricier around the $10-$15 USD range, but I personally think both are must-haves for any NES owner.
I had Kabuki Quantum Fighter and Tiny Toons Cartoon Workshop as a kid. Cartoon Workshop was fun for a while and Kabuki was creepy and very hard I never got past the spider tank boss on stage 4 back then. Fond memories though some of the best titles of their genres.
Sorry if this was mentioned already but it should be noted that Crystalis is based on Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind...which makes it all that much more awesome. Also one of my fav games on the NES.
I still have my Shatter Hard cartridge I bought in the early 90s. I bought it on blind luck like many of us back in the day without video reviews and I was really glad I did.
Interesting about Shatter Hand is that it's a conversion/localization of a game based on a live-action japanese hero series called Tokkyu Shirei Solbrain. They remade the in-game and cutscene sprites of the main character and enemies into generic comic book action look to appeal to the american audience as the show was unknown there at the time. I got to know the difference at the time cuz where I live, these shows were very popular.
when i started collecting 10 years ago shatterhand was the first game i bought at a flea market for like 4 bucks. amazing game. i ended up selling my collection after hitting 500 nes games and they sat for 5 years...but shatterhand is for sure the most underrated title
Kabuki Quantum Fighter, and Shatter Hand is mentioned in the last video. Yes, both G.I. Joe games are good. I got Pinball quest for like 6 or 7 dollars. I knew 2 people back in the day who had Bucky. I beat it (on Emulation..hehe) Hey Jon, love that shirt man!!!
Riggs!!!!!! We love you man!
We love ya back, buddy!
John Riggs: RIGG'd Games how many nes games do you have I. your collection? you are awesome BTW
We love u all 👍🏿👍🏿🎮🎮
Riggs I owe you lunch at Miner's!
If John has the manual it's actually a pretty cool read and makes it gives you the names for each power up
I'm so nostalgic for that G.I. Joe NES game... used to go far but never finished when I was a child.
The cover art for The Guardian Legend is EXACTLY why I never rented it at my local rental store. I can't tell you how many times I looked at that game but never tried it out! I am sure I would have liked it.
Chrystalis is my favorite NES game. Mad props for recognizing it.
"The world's first pinball fantasy.......Tell me about this fantasy" IM DYING 😆
Well done for putting Crystalis in this vidéo cause i was surprised to see he wasn't in the 2 first video
John is probably the only one that doesn't stand on a platform in MJR's videos :D
John makes Jesus stand on a box when they film together
He mentioned hes 6.5. Thats huuge.
Lol I thought you meant political platform and I was confused for a second.
8:07 She had the 'water' in her face and she looked a little confused. :)
I love John! I love all your guests but John has such an enthusiasm you can definitely feel.
The Guardian Legend is STILL a hidden gem all these years later!
That game is so freakin good!
The Guardian Legend is freakin' amazing! Such an unlikely pair of gameplay styles but both are done well.
Also, I think a lot of people know this, but if you input 'TGL' as the password on Guardian Legend, it allows you to play through just the shooter sections.
They also give you this password after you finish the game, probably because they knew no one would want to play through the whole game a second time.
Guardian Legend also has one of the best NES soundtracks!
Shatterhand is the absolute badass game ever!!
@@thetramp123 Their Snes catalog is also impressive. Pocky and Rocky 1 and 2 and Wild Guns
"Olive Grind" --
Sounds like the goal of a Popeye game.
LOL!
Giggity
I'm always down for more hidden gems -- especially Import (famicom, ect) hidden gems. What should I check out?
2 words: Super Sprint
Man, you included Tiny Toons Adventures Cartoon Workshop, but not Color a Dinosaur? You better include that one in NES hidden gems 4 :^)
The only thing good about Color a Dinosaur is finding it for cheap and flipping it for profit. And the fact that Tommy Tallarico did the music.
Rollergames is an awesome hidden gem on NES. Definitely needs to be in the next hidden gems video. Also, I recommend Crisis Force for Famicom, the best shmup on the system.
Uforia: The Saga
Over Horizon
Super Turrican
Hammerin' Harry
Noah's Ark
Astyanax
Blue Shadow
Xexyz
The NewZealand Story
Also, the European Guardian Legend box art is one of the best for the system, it's awesome :D
Pinball Quest ! ! ! Yes! That and Pinbot got played for hours. Talk about intrigueing and addicting
Nothing like enjoying your break at work, watching a new Metal Jesus Rocks nes video!
You guys couldn't look more the part! Well done!
i love these NES titles in no particular order: Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Punchout, TMNT, Kirby, RC Pro Am, Hockey, Excite Bike, Batman, Battletoads, 1942, All the Mario Games, All the Megaman especially Megaman 2 and Jaws.
Games I hated in particular order: Rambo, TMNT, Legend of Zelda 2, Ghostbusters, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Kid Chameleon. I'm sure theres more just cant remember them now.
Stick blades of steel in there.
shatter hand is my all time fave nes game. ive beat this game many times just to figure out the different combinations of the robots(whatever the proper name is) love it
I'm new to NES collecting and i love this channel man
Crystalis is the definition of a hidden gem. Played through a million times. Didn’t know until much later that it wasn’t well known.
Here are the current prices for the games shown:
Bucky O'Hare - $110
Guardian Legend - $20
Fire 'n Ice - $140
Rockin Kats - $75
Cartoon Workshop - $15
Kabuki Quantum Fighter - $20
Battle of Olympus - $15
Pinball Quest - $8
G.I. Joe - $40
Crystalis - $20
Shatterhand - $60

I'm surprised you weren't familiar with Kabuki theater. KISS' makeup design was influenced by it according to Gene. The more you know!
i died at Jason's comment about the cartoon game 😂😂😂
I was seriously thinking last week that no one has ever mentioned how great Pinball Quest is! Now that the word is out, you best go play it!
honestly shatterhand is my favorite game, remember playing this for hours with my little brother
Gi joe for sure is great. And kabuki getting some love.
Crystalsis and Rockin' Cats are classics
16:41 with Shatterhand I like how you can select the last levels in any order. Other games by Natsume did this too; Tail Gator, Power Blade II, Wild Guns
I vividly remember playing Bucky and really getting into it. I was probably 6 years old, lol. Sometimes you were rolling the dice with game rentals, sometimes you won. This was a winner.

Truth. It has the same unforgivable nature to beginners but is far less vague about what to do and where to go. Once you learn how everything works, it's super fun. The bosses are better, the music is better and it is the greatest Action-RPG on the system imo.
Little Nemo: The Dream Master
I cant believe that G.I Joe game is Nes !!! I've never played it back in the days when i owned an Nes and will sure visit it now to see what happens :D Thanks for the hidden Gem as always :D
I totally remember Bucky O Hare; I've never seen it reviewed before but I'm surprised it's a "hidden gem," I thought it was popular. But it may have came out at a time it went head to head with the Genesis and was over shadowed
To remove those EB game labels (former employee here) You simply just use a blow dryer on the label, and after a minute or two of hear blasting you can peel it right off
Or even a heat gun would do the trick. ;)
I have a heat gun, but I'm still afraid to remove it.
John Riggs: RIGG'd Games
I hear you man. I would be sketchy about removing it too.
Thing about that is that I've removed old labels like that before and the residue has already damaged the label underneath somehow
why put them on the label in the first place. there are like 20 other places you could stick them, but they chose the most important part? the only part with anything to look at?
Kabuki Quantum Fighter looks so damn good. Thanks for this vid MJ
Shatterhand is amazing! Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom level AWESOME!
Yes! Crystalis. I'm glad that it was included on the list. I had this when I was a kid and absolutely loved it. Definitely a hidden gem. Great choice!
Always love seeing you guys together. The music to Shatterhand is amazing!!
The Guardian Legend is one of my favorite games. I played it a lot when I was kid. Great game.
Pinball + RPG sounds like an awesome gameplay mix.
Crystalis, Shatterhand, and Bucky O'Hare all rule. Some of the best games on the NES.
These are the best. Also, more Game Boy gems please.
It makes me so sad that more people don't know Battle of Olympus. I played that game SO MUCH as a kid. Brilliant combo of Zelda 2 and Castlevania.
It's about time that you included Crystalis. Love that game. Another game I have a soft spot for is Willow, which is based on the fantasy movie starring Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer.
Gi joe and shatter hand were awesome!
I watch these NES hidden gems videos over and over. I got out of the NES collecting game, but I'm back in because of these videos.
Cartoon workshop looks fun. I'm a big fan of the "non-game" genre.
You two are really awsome . Thank you so much
RIGGSY!!!!! Thanks for the Pinball Quest recommendation! :P
always!
Kabuki Quantum Fighter was by far one of my favorite NES titles from my childhood. I can't believe that so many people haven't heard of, or even played that great game.
MJR THANKS BROTHER !!
You & RIGGS made my day with this video..
Thanks guys! Watched all three! I have some stuff to play for the winter now!
Around 15 years ago I bought Bucky O’Hare complete in box with the ads in it for 8 dollars. At the time I didn’t know what I was buying because I never heard of the game and that was the only one I ever seen at game shops. Back then I bought games just to own. The most consistent company next to Konami. Unfortunately a small selection of games.
its been awhile, Metal. Thanks for your vids!
Love Kabuki Quantum fighter, my cousin rented this, and we played it at my grandparents. He is dead now, but this gives me happy memories of him.
Battle of Olympus and Crystalis are my two favorite NES games.
omg i had the battle of olympus and completely forgot about this game. The visuals took me back like it was yesterday. So great thanks so much for sharing!!!
Loved Fire 'N Ice!
Shatterhand is a very known NES game, a gem but not hidden at all
Crystalis is even more known. Most people have owned or rented that game at some point.
Joe H yeah true dat

I loved Kabuki Quantum Fighter! But it wasn't a young kid that went into the computer, He was a soldier of some kind. It's been a long time since I've played it.

AWESOME!!! The Doctor and MetalJesus combo!!! Damn, life doesn't get any better!!! Rock on DUDES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
::Presses Play and holds hands in prayer hoping that I already own these games::
bucky o hare was one of my favorite games to rent when i was a kid! definitely a classic!!
Dude! G.I. Joe is by far my favorite NES game! Great pick!
OMG!! Thank you so much for doing this! For the life of me, I could never remember the name of that pinball game!! Now I know how to track it down!
