What do you guys think of this Miata? Do you like this new format of filming? Let us know your thoughts!
Yes i love this vid and format very professional and easy to watch my only gripe was that it ended we want more lol
Easily the best Miata on UA-cam.
@@jerrywooton5025 thank you! 🙌
@@gerardjoaquino8856 thank you! 🙌
perfect! x2
hearing the engine rev rather than hearing music is fantastic and refreshing.
:) :) :)
You got that right !
Yeah thank you for that :)
Especially because when youtubers do use music it's always royalty free cringe hype music
Proper driving.
So many young guys think that if it hasn't got 400+ HP then it's shit, which is so not true!!
Some of my best drives have been in sub 250HP cars.
Revs, steering and concentration, beautiful!
Horsepower is a nice coverup for poor driving skills, until it stops covering for you & bites you in the wallet...
Thank you Jamie! 🙌
That's true, "underpowered" cars are cool to drive beacause you have to push youself to the best, I kind of learned to race in an old VW with more or less 100 hp, you had to switch gears so fast and preciley if you wanted to reach some speed, It was all the time switching gears. A more powerful car just make it unnecessary, there is most of the time enough power.
For me what is most important in a car is balance you have a good engine you must have a good suspension etc. High horsepower is never my thing
There's a video of a professional driver driving a mitia with about 190whp at the nurburgring and was able to beat quite a bit of super cars on lap times. Also I might add the super cars lap times were also set by professional drivers.
That engine and exhaust note is what gives a car guy goose bumps. Almost as good as a 4AGE or B Series.
Or s2k F series
Not even close, a Mazda BP head is worthless as a door stop......
Not at all, B series is more metallic, closer to a bee colony if you want, and 4AGE is more refined than this and kind of better "sound tuned"
Took me a moment to realise that you were taking about Honda B engines because the 1960s MGB also had a "B series" 4 cylinder lmao
Personally, I like the sound of naturally aspirated BP engines over the aluminum block engines from hondas. Its the iron block and iron exhaust header that helps give it a deeper tone rather than the sharp high-pitched metallic sound that aluminum blocks and aluminum exhausts produce. Aluminum is better ofcourse, but the sound just doesn't hit right for me. High-pitched tones give me headaches. But that's a personal preference.
This is by far my favourite Miata anywhere I would love to hear this shit in person my god, nb1 for life
🙌😎
I'll agree it's a nice miata.... but pshhhhhhh NA8 for life.... pop ups ftw
This is Miata pornography, plain and simple... and it's awesome.
Thank you! 🙌
“What year is your Miata?”
Quinn: So about that....
LOL
Between 1998 and 2019
It's a 99. He said it had the original to the car 99 cylinder head with a slightly later block for more compression.
Floordford wooosh
PLEASE GO ON SPEED ACADEMY'S MIATA TRACK CAR CHALLENGE!!!!
We are going to try!
@@TheSlipAngle you're gonna kill it if you do. Love your Miata, would love to drive a car like that one day
Stay tuned! :) :) :) :)
see thecarpassionchannel last video :)
@@TheSlipAngle you rocked that course! Nice job. Not bring your holy NB there and really show them the potential track time 😄
Some people’s dream car is a lambourghini or a high hp LS swapped whatever... this... THIS is my dream build. I certain this is the only car capable of giving me a stiffy and making me cry from pure joy at the same time. I would actually do terrible, terrible things for this car. This truly is what driving nervana sounds and looks like. One day i pray to have the chance to own or even drive something this visceral
Its probably cheaper to build than buying a vw t5 or a bmw 330i lol
@@dudemcnude1314 I believe you're out of your mind
Had a coworker once, Marine sergeant, who commented that Miata’s were girlie cars (or words to that affect). I accused him of trying to get a date with me.
Oh myyy
Wasn't Colonel Russell Williams was it?
No. He was a big, burly Staff Sergeant.
Wow, just wow. It's all coming together; camera work; audio; editing. A whole new level, and what better subject than the iconic NB, that in a way, started it all. 🙌👊
Thank you Dave! 🙌 We'll have your track impression video out soon too! 😎
Had to pull over and write about this one! Couldn’t have said it any better myself. Good job Quinn and Slip Angle crew
@@TexasVexes Thank you buddy!
For someone who is just getting into Miatas, this is gold. The possibilities seem endless...and it can be rebuilt.
You know is a nasty n/a 4cly build when it starts to sound like a sportbike engine
ITBs yo lol
@@TheSlipAngle yeah I'm sure the high compression is part of it as well
I watched this video on my way to work in my s2000 this morning, at the red lights I rev'd my engine to see what my car sounded like compared to this miata.....i felt shame. Clean miata!
Lol! Thank you brother. F20/F22C are still the ultimate in my book 🤙
@@TheSlipAngle sure thing but mine ain't built
Korey Miller No need to build an F20/F22C. They're already built.
@@williambellisIII say that to Toda, Spoon, J's etc.
Korey Miller I mean, if you want to spend $10,000-$20,000 on their stroker kits, bolt ons, assembly, tuning, etc., go right ahead. For a factory motor that'll go 200,000+ miles, the F series is about maxed out.
Hands down one of the best NB Miata builds ever. I find so much inspiration in this video, from the car, to the cinematography. Hope to get my car in your videos when the time is right. :)
Thank you Erick! 🙌🙌🙌
Beautiful! Sounds like rotary at idle and screaming vtec at high rev, i love this
Thank you Chris!
When you can see an owner drive its car... it is special, you can feel how he knows how to push it for the limit, even an experienced driver can´t drive as fast as the owner does in the streets where he drives it everyday. That's the magic of this video, Human-Machine relationship at its finest.
100% 🙌 ;)
Now get this featured on Best Motoring. It's at that level of beauty and craftsmanship. 8k from a Mazda Miata is awesome.
Thank you!!! I love Hot Version / Best Motoring!
“Oh sweet. Quinn got featured on Petrolicious” is what I first thought watching the vid. Fantastic work on this vid guys!
🤗🤗🤗
Sameee
This is what I love about motorcycles. Raw, pure, it’s just you and the machine. The way this dude describes how much he loves driving his Miata reminds me of everything I’ve loved about being on a bike.
This is the first I’ve heard of you guys, and I’m majorly impressed! Aside from the absolute perfection that is this piece of art Miata, I loved the way you handled filming and editing!
Having the owner talk about his own car and blast it properly through some good roads was a refreshing take on the review format. I feel like nobody but the guy who built this crazy thing could have done it justice like that!
Job well done boys, subscribed and waiting for more.
Thank you so much! 🙌🙌🙌
What a machine. Immaculately built. And the sound that thing makes 😍 great to see an owner who really knows his shit and knows how to drive the absolute snot out of his car. Loved all of cars from the different mx5 battles but the noise from this thing is something special. Props to you for this build man it's fantastic!
Thank you Andrew! You nailed all the points that drove of us to creating this channel in the first place :)
The Slip Angle well you're doing a great job with some epic builds. In the process of turboing my NA currently, I can only hope for mine to be as good as the builds on this channel.
@@andycraige 🙌🙌🙌
Soo weird seeing such a smiley face of a miata roaring down the road :D long live the MX-5
lol
the fact that its an nb makes it perfect
I’ve always been on the fence about a miata. This makes me want to buy one. Sounds like a superbike
Great Spotlight! All interviews in Recaro seat is mandatory!
Yes! 🤙
This is by far the best video I've seen for what the Miata should be , I had a 97 m series and you made me realize how much I miss that car , but the exterior ,interior, engine , underside is just perfect ! And yes my Miata was dark metallic forest green with tan top and interior , but I have to confess my favorite is the white it just looks so clean your car is stunning , your video format was perfect , great job bro !
Thank you Dave! 🙌🙌
I can so relate to the pure approach of your Miata build - for me the 90's for me was the decade when cars became modern but were not laden with the impurities of newer models...
I 100P agree 🙌
Love this naturally aspirated NB build!
It sounds amazing.
This car is a work of art! Great job and congratulations with an amazing result! Who doesn't want a Miata after watching this? Altough a lot of time and resources is spent to make something like this.
Man what an awesome job. From the build itself to the production of the video. Keep it up guys
Thank you! 🙏
The owner did exactly what I'm trying to achieve with my ND2 with his NB. He understood the soul of this car and knows how to drive it properly. Big kudos to him, superb project!
Imagine owning a Miata without pop-up headlights?
This meme was brought to you by the NA Miata Gang.
POP UP UP AND DOWN HEADLIGHTS!
have fun popping them from back there
NBest for me
Would make me sad to trade my nb for na. The sideline of the NA is to straight, the headlights bring to much weight in the most forward position of the car, the trackwide is a bit smaler. So many little things that make tha NB the so much better car.
Imagine owning a miata that the only good thing about it is the pop-up headlights
I always come back to this video. I first saw it before i owned a miata. Then I did a miata review for my channel. Then i was lucky enough to find a really nice, stock nb for $1,400. Now i come back to watch this video every now and then. For power gains, all motor builds aren't as effecient as turbo builds for these cars. However, miata is all about the driving experience, and I think this ITB NA build is about as amazing as you can get. Hope i get the chance to see it in person some time.
Great filming and production! Can't wait to until you go K24. I have BP remorse 3 Miata engines deep,1 built 2 spares, I wish I started K series at the beginning of my Miata build. Keep up the great content!
Thank you Dan! Samesies, I tell people all the time if K-Swaps were a thing back when I started this build I would have just gone that route.
@@TheSlipAngle Take a look at the new Kmiata kit! I think the k24z3 would compliment your car nicely.
Willby2 bruh he’d prob go k20, he wants high reviving
@@JordyAuto I think Quinn was down with Tommyfyeah's K24 miata torque, and you can still rev high. Fwd i get why you want k20, you don't need so much low end torque, otherwise your breaking traction always. In Miata's LSx torque is still manageable. I would do K24!
With a k24 + bolt ons he'll be spinning in third gear lol!
Seriously though, this car is a riot.
What a quality video! Very slick. Impressed.
What a quality mazda too. Guys focused on all the right things and got the car to absolute perfection. Knows his stuff and modified a car the right way! Totally love it. Makes me want another mx5 now.
Thank you sir! 🙌
More like this! Do it for all your cars!
YES 🙌🙌🙌
I second this
Agree
Please
Just hearing that sound raises my heart rate, I know what its like to full send a road like that, but seeing it done so confidently, like I can just tell almost how the car is set up through the screen, in the rear the antirollbar is really quite stiff, but the camber upfront helps the car to bite into corners really well. And the whole car is just soooo dang planted.
I cannot wait till I can get an NB, my goal is by the end of the year to own one, my build will probably be pretty similar to this one for sure.
This guy is living it. What more do you need? Pretty much my dream Miata build right there (unless yeah, possibly a K swap). Will get to it someday!
I'm currently in the market for an NB. Fantastic car man! I learned a LOT! Love those cams, that idle sounds insane for a 4cyl!!!
Whoh, I commented on this? Hey guess what? I got my NB!
This is so cool! Also another good thing about not doing the pistons is if you do any mx5 comps they usually have a below 2000cc displacement requirement
I have watched this video countless times and I'm not even a Miata guy just finally got around to ordering one of your t-shirts as well keep making great videos
Love builds like this 🏁 Clean, functional, built for driving experience 🙌
🙌🙌🙌
Man... I remember me seeing the video back in the day when published... It's been more than 5 times I watched it since... That miata man, is a dream! Most badass miata someone can ever see, yet it is so tastefull and came together amazing!!!
Cool video
Love it.
The way the video was taken and the sound of the itb's reminds me so much of Keiichi tsuchiya AE86 in best motoring videos. Beautiful work that was done to your miata really really nice.
Thank you Edwin! I built this car based on Tsuchiya's philosophy for his car. This is my AE86 :)
I've been following this guy for a while. So glad someone finally showcased his car.
🙌🙌
9:11 I would love to see a miata with a 13B in it rather then a honda engine. Maybe a NA build with side ports revving to 10k. Honda engine in a mazda just sounds wrong...
I'm building a PPort 13b for my 91 NA Miata as we speak ;) 10k on side ports may be a stretch. Perhaps a big bridgeport would still make power up there. I'll probably keep RPM around 9500 max for the build.
A K miata is a freakin weapon, though. And much more efficient in every way
3:20 I almost joy cried and felt my heart happy for him when he smiled. I understand that smile so much and I dont even own something decent.
Sounds like it's about to hijack a Rodgers truck...
THAT'S WHAT I SAID AS WELL!!!!
Thank God. I'm not the only one
This is the first time I've ever thought of disliking an ls-swapped Miata. I can't believe it actually happened. This thing is truly beautiful.
Thank you Ganesh! 🙌
The Slip Angle you bet! You've made a video that has entirely changed my perspective on what I'd like to do with my own money. It's always been make a boosted LS powered car of some sort. But damn who knew you could have the same fun (or more) with an n/a Miata that sounds like this. Amazing stuff from The Slip Angle, and a solid name too ;)
And the all important but ignored question is....
How much power does it make?
Greg Schlegel in the description
185 whp and 134 lb/ft on a DynoJet
Enough
I got goosebumps when the in car driving was shown. Through my phone speakers! that just shows how great this build is
all it needs is a fastback conversion
I've considered this!
@@TheSlipAngle Please dont do it ahah looks mint that way
Best Video production from you guys yet , and my favorite format. This formula works
Thank you John! 🙌🙌🙌
Damn. Makes me want a Miata. if only I could fit in one! (too tall)
A lower seating solution goes a long way ;)
Try an NC
Awesome video! This is the car that got me watching your videos years ago. There will always be a Miata in my garage.👍
Thank you! YES! 🙌
I’d wouldn’t say it is. And this isn’t about it being and NB, I love and own one but wouldn’t you think of the purest form as the original NA?
Back in the day when the 99 came out (and there was none of the NA / NB BS) no one thought the NA was better. Up until recently most people wanted a NB over an NA. The ONLY reason I ever liked the NA better was because of the door cards. 92, 94R, 97STO, 99.
I know exactly where you were thrashing the car. I'm there all the time myself, that 12 miles stretch is a blast to drive! Bristol to Watertown, and Bristol to Torrington, all back roads, no traffic lights!
so you almost made an s2000
An s2000 with room in it
An s2000 that doesn’t have an oversteer issue
😮 lighter as well and cheaper to maintain
@@lorddragoono cheaper platform to get into
The S2000 is overrated and that’s why they’re dead.
No words to describe how much I love this build... And the story of this build...
I also bought a Miata (NA6 though) while dreaming about an S2000 (and your NB to be honest)... Now lets see what I can make with the little 1.6...
Thank you David! 🙌
Love this car, for real! But swap an K serie engine on a Miata? Not my cup of tea...
I actually like BP engine and would be super interesting to see a all forged bottom end. Also, Mazda heart on Mazda body.
The problem is that by going with a forged bottom end I would only gain about 400 RPM, the difference between 8k and 8400 RPM is just not enough for me to go through with that much work. Look at the crank girdle on the K-Series vs the mains on the BP. There is just not enough support for high RPM. Honda cylinder heads flow better than just about everything else, which is the ticket for all motor builds. I'd also gain low end back being able to use VTEC, right now I am basically VTEC all the time which hurts the low end power lol. Plus they are lighter :)
My NA was on the way to a build with this ethos. Suspension and engine were done. Interior was next. But alas, it was sold for an ND. And I'm now inspired to do interior on it!
I need to bring my kseries mr-s for your opinion!
Yes! Message us!
Your Miata is so pure that it inspires me to build mine as a natural aspirate engine! Thank you for sharing
Sounds Insane but Im sure building that motor cost a lot for 185 WHP
its not always about the money ;)
@@zombeloffical Tru, Thing sounds nuts
I didn't actually build block though. It cost me 120.00 to skim the head to bring compression up to where it is. The porting I did myself. The block was never taken apart.
@@TheSlipAngle Only 120 Bucks? That's crazy man. I wonder if I could or should do the same? Im looking at buying an 07 with a smashed windshield from copart right now for cheap. I think your build is what's gonna make me pull the trigger. Looks and sounds better than pretty much any miata i've seen.
@hitman hit I just want a fun car for cheap and small time investment. so I don't feel bad about beating on it.
You have inspired me so much I am so grateful for everything you have shared with modifying these cars!
Cheers brother!
“Plus vtec” hahahaha
A year later. I return to watch this video. Wondering when I'll get my own miata.Such a simple and beautiful car. Perfect for someone who wants to start.
Speeding in residential areas and crossing the double yellow is no good. Let’s keep it classy.
Thanks Quinn, bought my first car the other day, '01 NB
couldn't be happier with it
Congratulations!
Do not get me wrong. I am a racer since 23 years. But this type of driving on these public roads is just plain stupid. Car is beautiful though.
We did a whole season of track videos last year for The Slip Angle and got criticism for those too. Can't please everyone.
The Slip Angle When a 10 year old kid will have been killed, all car enthousiasts will be blamed. Just keep it on the track.
@@TheSlipAngle I'm also a bit concerned about driving this fast on public roads, you just never know whats behind the next corner. The guy who commented was just right, you should at least get to a road where Ou can see a bit further
Best sounding NA miata I have ever heard and the video format is absolutely perfect. Well-balanced between dialogue and car footage. 10/10 my friend!
Thank you Grant!
Absolutely loved my BP4W's. I've thrown it in the bin now for more displacement, but that's an engine which will always have a special place in my heart
I. LOVE THIS BUILD!!! He was so exacting with every detail and it turned out so well. Great to see him enjoying that machine.
Thank you Josh! 🙌
Oh my.. this is probably my favorite build of all time
Thank you! 🙌🙌
I can feel the passion and not money in this build !! One day hope to be as proud of my build as you are of your own!!
This guy really just built an almost perfect replica of my dream car in my head and even put some details I changed in my idea of the perfect miata for me. That green specially touched me. It looks amazing everywhere in the car, not a single green detail looks bad in that car. Idk man it's like if he read my thoughts
A miata I've never seen, owned by a guy I've never seen, built almost like a dream I had and nobody has ever seen actually exists.
Cheers brother
The perfect Miata DOES exist. Absolutely love everything about this. Makes me miss my white ‘03. Wonderful job building and styling this gem.
i am officially considering this miata the gold standard in N/A miatas. thank you so much for building this car and making this great video to showcase it properly
Thank you! 🙌🙌🙌
Thanks for the detailed build list in the description, it will come in handy when I build my own
I have a 2014 MX ,5 I feel this version of the roadster design is the cleanest I've ever seen. I love the sophisticated look of the hard top. Because they change the design every five years my machine will always be a rare exotic. Nothing like it for picking up your spirit. It's true what they say. The most fun you can have in a car without a woman.
i remember seeing this on the clubroadster (correct me if thats the wrong forum, i was on several) and instantly followed your build. And then years later, you got a youtube and kept evolving. A FINE EXAMPLE OF AN N/A MIATA RIGHT HERE! Also, good idea on the K Series, I was at Button Willow for some track day fun and this dude had an NA Miata with a K24 in it, it was a helluva car.
Thank you Mark! Yes, it was ClubRoadster. OG days lol 🙌
You are the one that inspired me to do something different other than turbo and build my miata for ITBs. I thank you for that
I love what you have done with this nb1... Beautiful build... Just bought a mint stock '99... I'm in love with it... I would like to eventually give it more power, but right now I am just enjoying the purity of it... I would love a bit more, but don't want to loose the poetry of this vehicle... Thank you for the inspiration
Thank you Dax! 🙌
I remember seeing pics of this car back when I had my NA in 2009 and it’s always been my favorite build next to marlins black NA. Could never decide between the two lol. So cool to know it’s still around.
Awesome brother, thank you!
That engine is crazy. Look at how much the shifter shakes when cycling on and off the power.
Already knew about this video, but I had to watch again to remind myself what a good NB naturally aspirated build looks like
I'm still so envious of this car. I am a NA miata guy personally currently loving a ND 2019. I would love this engine in a comparable 97'model
Finally that time of my yearly ritual where I come and watch this video
:)
Really mesmerised with this Miata, specially that engine is quiet special.
Loved that you kept the heart intact and made something unique out of it.
I don't know, the engine appeared quite loud to me. ;-)
Hahaha, seems like I'd accidentally made a fool out of my self.
This'll remain between us two, alright? ;)
🙌🙌🙌
Inspires me to take my 01 to this level... I love the my miata for as long as I will live, it will always have a place in my garage just like you
Best car content on you tube, man has serious skills and some of the best looking roads too, quite the collection, that NB looks the dogs Bollox, quite inspiring stuff ,more thanks
That car sounds amazing, great job. That is a fun looking track day car.
Man, I love watching Quinn go hard on back roads. And the sound quality is 👌
;)
I intend to build my NC1 like this. It was very inspiring and sometimes horsepower figures don’t mean a whole lot when the car feels so alive like your NB1 does. I think I’m either going Supercharger or ITB’s. I’d love a turbo but feel that really ruins what the car was built to do and does so well. I’d rather have more power in the same fashion it was designed for. Love the videos keep them up! Epic cinematography.
Thank you! 🙌
Just wow. Just look how clean this little holiday/track car is. Bravo!!!! Love the channel but I miss the track day reviews... Idk if its feasible but I would love to watch more of that!!!!
We just dropped a tuned NC track review video before this one. We also have a few more that will be releasing soon.
Hey GQM. Glad to see a recent video with some good numbers! Your hard work is paying off.
Thanks brother
Those ITB's sound so good
Love the attention to detail on this creation! Great video
Thank you Jeff! 🙌
God, I love this car so much. Once I finish my LS NC, if you have a meet up at some point, I want to come up there from northern VA and see it.
Awesome! 🤙🤙🤙
