I can respect his philosophy for this build. Some cars you chase laptimes with. Others you just want to have fun in. This is the latter. Having a nice sounding engine helps immensely. With the ITBs, this one makes a nice sound in the higher RPMs and is special with the 8000 rpm Miata engine. If I was him, it'd be a keeper for me as well.
7:25 double downshift. I was listening and when said : double downshift..... wait what. I checked 4 more times, really smooth. Love how owner is passionate to make GT spec look
I absolutely loved the way how it looks! It makes a look like a racecar, but one in which you could easily go for a nice roadtrip with one of your buddy's without it being a pain to drive like an actual racecar. Absolutely amazing!!!!
An absolute beaut, and imo definitely the 6speed/4.1 mix giving you a more useable 3rd through there. Tinkering with gear ratios can be so rewarding for track work. And the rev notes are music😍😍
Just finished suspension set up on my 03 nb2. Fox coilovers, fm sway bars, adjustable endlinks, and polypro bushings, and innovative poly engine mount. This video has me wanting to do itb as well. We are building with similar philosophy because the car was so beautiful when we got it. So keeping alot of creature comforts.
Just realized I was listening to the motor with apple wired earphones on at full volume. Something about sound of a well sorted out motor hustling through a racetrack that gets me tuned in.
Loved the video. What a calibration of two great channels. Quinn please take the FD there for some hot laps. I would love to see what she can do there. I am guessing it would be in the 117s
Thanks for the bday gift. I wish you'd given us the heads up! I've been following Quinn's build since the beginning. Hope he brings the 13B MX-5 up next time ;)
I just bought a low miles 97 NA, lady owned since new. I am enjoying it a lot, power seems fine to me, but more is always better, sometimes. I too would like to own a S2000 Honda, but sports cars that haven't been hammered are far and few between. I suppose mine has all the options, 5 speed, power steering, power windows, power brakes, and air conditioning. I paid $1,000 for it, 104,000 miles. The lady bought a new Miata with the folding hardtop and a six speed. She's a nurse and probably in her early 60s.
Beautifully built car. Lots of times when you see older imports like NA/NB Miatas, they get built with that shitbox mentality. It just goes to show you if you how great these cars can look with some vision and class. And that's not even getting into the craftsmanship of the mechanical aspects of the car. I hope my mini truck turns out looking and driving half this good.
a non-skyactiv 2.5 with a 2.3 crank is a good mazda swap. a stock 2.5 can put down 170, or 180 sometimes with a healthy example. the mazda ecus can run them pretty easily as well, so it might me a little more practical for some vs a k motor. you would need a rwd manifold, but there are a ton of cars that run them from formulas, to cossies, speed3s, all the way to sprint cars and the ecoboost stuff out there, so the motors are pretty versatile, and that swap would see a lot of stuff getting re-used from a stock miata.
Love the build but k series is better imo. The OEM K series pushes out same horsepower numbers. Oem k series proven to go 200k miles. Oem k revs higher. Oem k better aftermarket. Oem k still in production vehicle today.
Interested in a stroker/ITB setup for my NA 2005 MINI R50, which is also a "forever" car I've had since new (I bought it when I was a Second Lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces and drove it all over Canada between postings). I've done everything short of a ported head (cam, tune, larger injectors, R53 throttle body, CAI, manifold and exhaust, etc.), but want to just get a built engine instead of continuing to modify an engine that now has over 100K miles on it.
this is how i'm trying to build out my Miata tbh might be sometime before I do anything with the head but most of the other goodies for sure. I really want to go all out on my suspension and make the engine stiffer get get some better built exhaust nothing wrong with what I have but I want to go full on 2" gonna get my exhaust from Racing Beat I really love their setups. uhh a Megasquirt and Injectors so it can be tuned out a bit for all the stuff. I just really want to build out my car since it has only 65k miles currently as an all stock motor.
Motor options are more about personal taste. For the true diehard, keeping the Miata "authentically" miata, sure this setup is AWESOME! Cost wise, not sure if an outright K-swap is more or less. Throttle bodies make this build sound a smidge better. But if it were me, a K20A2 would suffice. No mods alone is far superior and reliable than this build. 1.6s and 1.8s are turbo motors, converted to NA life,. NOT a high RPM motor design from ground up.
Glad you liked it Dave! Thanks again for having us up boys! Beams Celica and ITB Miata old fart battle in the future for sure! 😛
Rippin' some ITBs
RX8
If you and/or Dave/Pete are ever in LA you're welcome to take my NSX out! Love the collab guys. More pls!
@@RyuMoto I'm down! :)
Get a hold of Tsuchiya! Need to see Doriken drive this Miata!
4:36 Mommmm I'm on TV!!
I knew somehow that you were around there too.
That's my favorite Miata from all of UA-cam
Taylor Ray has entered the chat
@@dandunlap4941 Nah, that V8 sounds so generic. Quinn's ITB is still better
@@smilepermile888 It all depends on the kind of driving you enjoy. An ITB BP would be useless for the kind of driving Taylor does.
Even more than car throttles Phil?
@@FACTOTUM_55 I'm the oddball who prefers the NB style to the NA. I daily a '99 NB so I'm biased.
The shout out to Hot Version and K.Tsuchiya was 👍🏽👍🏽
My hero
Wait whatt they featured this car on Best motoring ツ hell yeah
Love how revvy it is! So responsive. IMO responsive cars are more fun than less responsive but technically faster cars.
I can respect his philosophy for this build. Some cars you chase laptimes with. Others you just want to have fun in. This is the latter. Having a nice sounding engine helps immensely. When The Slip Angle, and Speed Academy started doing vlogs together. I knew it was going to be good
Great video, thanks team! - Taz.

Ive watched this video probably 40 times now, not exaggerating at all, i love this setup, i want to setup my 99 very similarly
I absolutely loved the way how it looks! It makes a look like a racecar, but one in which you could easily go for a nice roadtrip with one of your buddy's without it being a pain to drive like an actual racecar. Absolutely amazing!!!!
The perfect Miata in my opinion, it sounds so good!! Reminded me of Tsuchiya’s Hachiroku, beautiful inside and out, congratulations man!!
This channel keeps on getting better and better with every new episode! Soon enough I’ll see you guys on a network television show !
😂😂😂 network television? Ok boomer
Mike Walker I miss Paul
Lol network TV, are you 60?
@@ElvisVikic cool jump suit bro, you gonna guzzle some wodka and watch Miami Wice, blyatt.

That's the dude form slip angle, he can drive the nuts of cars, such an epic driver.
A NB K-swap and an ITB build all in one week--what have I done to deserve this awesomeness?
Man it steers like a dream so smooth so natural great car. It is relaxing watching this car around everything
Hey Slip Angle bloke, your car is a real little beauty. 10/10
He sold me on the Hot Version! Plus, his passion towards his Miata is awesome!
As soon as this guy said he grew up on Hot Version, I was sold.
Quinn’s NB is such an awesome all around build! Id also be conservative driving this piece of automotive art, lol!
One of the cars that make me want a Miata, love Garage Quinn. Awesome collaboration!
Just the smile and passion on this guy made me click like within the first min. Awesome build!
I also really liked this MX 5, Mods all done with a lightness of touch that hides the ferocious performance. Well done that man!
i love his enthusiasm for this car! great combo of beauty and function
An absolute beaut, and imo definitely the 6speed/4.1 mix giving you a more useable 3rd through there. Tinkering with gear ratios can be so rewarding for track work.
And the rev notes are music😍😍
Was just wondering when you guys would feature this Miata and thank goodness you guys did. By far, one of my favorite Miata builds 🤙
Sounds infinitely better than that K-swap Miata the other day.
Put ITBs on that K...
No
Gears and Gasoline would like to have a word with you
@@Shadowboost yeah k swap intake noise is shit and you hear shitcan exhaust. Once you put itb's on k engines, they sound like hillclimb cars

I like the balance this car has, the sound really rounds out the perfect driving experience.
I remember watching/listening to clips of Quinn's NB over and over again. That thing rocks. I hope you guys do a collab again. This was a great video.
Just realized I was listening to the motor with apple wired earphones on at full volume. Something about sound of a well sorted out motor hustling through a racetrack that gets me tuned in.
Just watched this again a year later, still smiling. 👍
Love Quinn's miata! Best I've ever seen and love his garage! Love that two of my favorite channels are vlogging! Love it all! 😍😍😁
Havent even finished watching I think this is my fav SpeedAcademy video!
Love the car. Mad props to those guys for coming up here
Love this guys excitement over his build
One of my favorite as well. Love this car!
If I ever was without my 4.1 final drive E46 M3, this is exactly what I'd build. Perfection
This miata is beautiful
Sounds like it should . . . moves like it should . . . you did an awesome job Quinn !!!
That wall on the outside of the last turn sure is pucker inducing
Love this miata, very tastefully done, functional and looking great 🙌 Great content, keep it coming Speed Academy
This car is GLORIOUS! Wish to have something like that someday.
Loved the video. What a calibration of two great channels. Quinn please take the FD there for some hot laps. I would love to see what she can do there. I am guessing it would be in the 117s
I loved the video and the car. Love both channels to be fair!
This car is an absolute weapon, in a slower, curvy track. That engine is just sexy.
👍👍🏁🏁..great review..Quinn is absolutely the truth..great car and information..Good job!
This is my favourite miata on UA-cam!! Well.... right after the miata dad Greg Pieters 420whp miata!!!!!
Thanks for the bday gift. I wish you'd given us the heads up! I've been following Quinn's build since the beginning. Hope he brings the 13B MX-5 up next time ;)
the gearing, high RPM, ITB and the engine sound - this car is fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
185 out of this engine is amazing! Must be really fun to drive !!
S/O to HotVersion! already like the build haha.
Sounds so good and looks very pretty. I bet it's a very smooth and pretty experience.
I remember watching this guy drive with this exact car. Fucking amazing as hell the whole way!!
Nsx 🤤🤤
What a nice dude👍🏻
Those ITBs give it a nice old school sound
The Miata.
I hope I can get close to something like Quinn’s Miata, it’s just beautiful how it looks, sounds and drive (at least on UA-cam)...
another great production guys, thank you
The Miyata we’ve all been waiting for!
Respect for keeping that BP!

Question, why do I see ITB Miatas running around but the Honda guys tell you to stay away from ITB ( bad drivability, hard to tune, idle....etc )
should enter best motring gunsai touge as guest
Beautiful Miata. I also never heard “Say-Lee-ka” before. I’m guessing that is supposed to refer to the Toyota Celica.
What a glorious noise.
I got a built turbo Miata but might go itb for the sound
Are you guys gonna get a Rocketeer V6 Miata to do some laps as well?
When I get my money right im doing this to my Miata, imma make the ultimate track/street weapon
I know someone who has both a turbo and supercharger in a miata here in Sweden if you ever pass by ;)
