That’s exactly how I felt when a judge granted me my name change. I’d had to be very honest on the paperwork about why I wanted to change my last name. (My step-father had adopted me, and I wanted to be able to start fresh, including the degree I was about to receive. I worked so hard to get my life back together, and I didn’t want any part of him, not even his name, to get any kind of credit for the life I had rebuilt. I believe the paperwork said something to the effect of, “I don’t want my rapist’s name on my BA.”) The judge saw my case first, and when he called me by my new name, I felt both vindicated and free.

I was 10 when I told my mom, she kicked me OUT saying I was trying to steal her man. It took another 8 years for her to learn the truth, another 5 for me to understand she was mentally ill and NEVER should have been a mom. It Took me 2 SECONDS looking at my child to KNOW the cycle of ABUSE that has troubled my family for GENERATIONS, STOPPED with me. it's been 19 years since I had my child WHO NEVER WAS ABUSED, HUNGRY, HOMELESS, raised by both birth parents. IT STOPPED WITH ME. I found a great man, only after I healed myself 1st. We have been together for 20 years and I'm doing great and so is my kid. So I understand the feelings she is going through, the wanting a family, trying to forgive while still hating because she choose him and not you, yet wanting the families you see others having on tv. thinking your crazy, or maybe you did something, to-self hate, to hate for all, THEN rise above THEM and HEAL is an amazing thing to do. you will make it and you are already stronger just for standing here today, JUST KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOUR FEELINGS ARE 100% OKAY TO HAVE.

And I always jumped and got something between us like a table instinctively. And said no. Women like that are vile. My mom was the one touched me, my dad didn’t know that but when I told him he said I don’t believe you. We are now no longer in contact. I remember my best friend in high school being abused by both her parents. It was mostly her dad, her mom occasionally… but when her dad passed (rest in hell Stephen) her mom became an absolute MONSTER. We grew apart in the past few years but her now fiancé is one of my close friends’ cousins. She did get away from her mother and doesn’t talk to them at all anymore. Her mother snakes her way into anyone’s inbox who MIGHT have contact with H to see where they’re living, H has a one year old son now-the witch’s first grandchild and I’ll say, we don’t speak anymore but I’m damn proud of her for getting out. She’s clean and sober also from what I hear. I miss her every day but I’m proud of her. And I hope you’re doing well also-I’m proud of you for surviving it.

Thank you for answer. Yes it takes a lot of strength. I am still recovering. Yes they try to get into your life again, I also had inquiries and threats. It’s also I think difficult to protect yourself, because when it happens from such a young age, you at some point distance yourself which is already a hard situation since they don’t let go easily, but there is nobody guiding you in the process. When you get assaulted as an adult, and step to the police, they offer you services. Also you get the choice to make it a court case. How would a child know all this? It’s their primary caregiver. I remember thinking what would happen to me if I told, who would give me food, where would I live. And then when I told as an adult to my father, and my sisters also experienced weird things and knew my mother (and father) were aggressive and especially at that time, because I wanted out. They say it must be you, and don’t believe it. It’s now 9 years later. Also I feel that you are vulnerable for these types of predators due to this experience. At least now that I am aware of it and healing, this happened many many times. I am a target for bullies. Or was should I say. And also, see how they keep denying even when in court and the facts are presented right there. How are children supposed to handle all this? If the adults can’t even? This proves that we are not to blame, and not abusing others means they are by nature evil and we are by nature good. There is justice needing to be done. Much strength to anyone needing it, be super proud of yourself.

I absolutely love the judge's intelligent approach to this case. He knew that, technically speaking, if the daughter hadn't made the payments, breaching a loan agreement, then she was at fault and he had to find against her. Yet, morally, the mother did not deserve a penny, nor the opportunity to harm her daughter any more than she already had (not to mention that, if the daughter felt that he was siding with her abusers, that could undo much of her recovery).
By focusing mainly on the counter claim he could, at least, give the daughter public vindication. But seizing the opportunity the moment he could prove that the mother lied to call perjury, a perfectly legal way to dismiss her case without the daughter needing to answer for it? That was a masterclass in how to use the law to deliver true justice.
Well played, Judge Mathis! Well played 😎

What you just said almost brought me to tears. My mothers youngest brother molested me when I was a small girl and my mother doesn’t believe me to this day. My mother would go out of her way to talk about me, dismiss my feelings, and would tell me to drop out of college because she was not going to help transport me to and from class. My mother ended up abandoning me as a child as well as my brother and to this day she feels as though I owe her something. I am legally blind and lost my vision at 12 years old because my mother abuse me from the moment she found out that she was pregnant. My mother has said extremely disrespectful and degrading things about me yet with being legally blind I have graduated from a prestigious university in Ohio with my masters degree, raise a child alone, travel throughout the country with jobs and with my university, and have now relocated to NC to a new job and a new life with my almost 17-year-old son. I have had to go through this world without a mom and with my dad‘s blessing and prayers.. I try not to ever think about those low points in my life but I remember later that it’s those low points that have brought me to the top of the mountain. Social media and the narcissism it causes exacerbate the jealousy of middle aged women against their daughters. Women feel justified tearing down their daughters in order to remain the dominant woman in their environment. I see varying forms of it all around and it makes me cringe. It seems that mothers today either treat the daughters like a bestie or are jealous of them. The dysfunction proves that in American society today, there are fewer women every year that are willing to have healthy relationships with their daughters, instead of toxicity.
