- The plaintiff says he and the defendant share a child, and they continued to live together after breaking up so he could stay in his son’s life. He’s suing his ex for the value of property she won’t return. The defendant claims the plaintiff was so controlling and abusive that she had to call police several time. She denies owing for anything.

As a man, I kept my composure when Judge Mathis read that transcript. As soon as he played the actual audio though I started crying. I couldn’t even imagine saying ANY of that to the Mother of my daughter. I don’t even wish death on an enemy of mine. Omg. I have five sisters and I’m the oldest of eight. If any man on this planet talked like that to any of my five sisters... I can’t even incriminate myself with what I’d do. Then on top of it, he was physically abusive too? Omg... I’m so lost as to why he thought he should show his dumb ass in court against her and on tv.

This is one of the most disturbing cases I've ever seen. In addition to JAIL TIME, the plaintiff also needs professional help.
This happens everyday in family courts across America and these abusers actually win and control us and our children forever.
Please help by speaking to your local rep and having them pass a law similar to our law, jennifers law in Connecticut. It's starts with coercive control.

I have never cried watching any case on Judge Mathis but this case was extremely heartbreaking. The look on his face tells me he has not been defeated and will retaliate. There is no way a person this damaged can properly parent. She will continue to suffer if she does not pursue jail time for him.
He’s gonna take a bigger loss in the custody case if she shows that evidence.

Plaintiff got off easy. JM usually goes in on the women abusers. He should definitely be in jail. The defendant could have filed a countersuit for $5000 for emotional distress. She would have gotten err' penny!

He should have known Judge Mathis wasn't messing with him. I know she wants to co parent but if he's gone be teaching her child this negative behavior then she's better off keeping him away. He really thinks he won't lose custody after those tapes and that is sad. She seems like she thinks having a horrible father in her child's life is better than no father and that is a sad mentality to have. Hopefully she gets smarter.
Co-parent, if he abuses the mother of his child he will eventually get around to abusing the child, he should not have visitation unless it is supervised.
As a DV survivor I feel for the defendant. It seems as though she is still in the midst of dealing with the residual effects of the abuse for choosing not to prosecute him for the abuse she endured. Those effects can last for years even with therapy. What may seem simple to some...like “why didn’t she press charges? Why didn’t she leave sooner?” etc are much harder choices to make as someone who has suffered years of psychological & emotional abuse, nevermind the physical. Abusers really break you ALLLLL the way down in every way. It’s awful. I pray that she continues to gain strength & confidence in her healing journey for her kids sake & for hers. It took me almost 5 years to muster up the courage & strength to leave. It’s far more difficult than a lot of folks realize. Prayers up for her & those kids. 🙏🏼🥺

I feel for her! I was in her shoes many years ago. The court gave me a few short term protection orders before giving me one for life. He violated them and ended up in prison. My 2 kids know who their dad is, remember how he treated me, but had other positive male family members to fill the void of not having a good father. I know how hard it can be to cut ties when you're in a DV relationship and I am so proud of her for getting away from him. Now, she needs to take it a step further because he is still dangerous, especially after losing this case.

By asking questions, the judge tells her what to do. He even helps her with an excuse for showing up at his work. And yet she doesn't understand the hints. So regrettable!
But you didn't mention the part where he also acknowledged that her way of thinking is normal for victims of abuse. Be more like him and have understanding, not weird judgement.
