that moment when you dont know that you are facing a man who has killed every god from another mythology and would do so again to yours if he felt like it
I mean I'm sure that that's the feel that they intended. To have one camera angle the goes around the scene, but never abruptly cuts to another angle. At first I was skeptical, but it worked beautifully.
I’m not gonna lie, this scene is what really reminded me of how Kratos was still a god of power, the end fight doesn’t seem just as mythical as this where two heavy weights are just going at it with no success on either side.
I guess the thing was this fight more then the end fight involved very few moving parts. It was really two men against one another with no outside interference. They were strong, trees gave way under their struggle, the earth itself shifted and torn. I don't feel the final battle quite had that because if anything it felt too big. The terrifying thing was? This battle was boring for the stranger. Just another every day occurrence in his personal quest just to feel anything. Kratos gave his all and was exhausted by the end, even if that exhaustion was just an momentary setback for him, but for the stranger? This battle didn't mean anything to him. He was but an enforcer of Odin and he found the entire battle immensely boring, so what if he lost? There was never anything at stake for him, which made this battle equal measures majestic yet tragic, this man was literally broken long before Kratos met him.
Infact even the stranger is inconsistent with his own behavour; toward the latter end of the fight he claimed only to be interested in what "Odin asked me to do", yet clearly at the start all he wanted was for this mysterious stranger from an unknown land to just hurt him. Though even that behavour was explained in the end.
I wonder if Kratos got weaker since he lost all that rage from the Greek gods, it looks like when compared to how he fought people like Zeus or Cronos he could push them back with his strength, but here it feels as though he is resilient to use his anger to fight at his full potential. It seems as though even through the entire game he is trying to set an example for Atreus and fight more reserved instead of the hardcore brutal ness that he was iconic for.
"Leave. My. Home." You'll notice not only does Kratos take slightly longer to say home, but his expression turns away from anger for a brief moment. He had been on the move for years, going on a constant killing spree in his quest for revenge, and since meeting his new wife and the birth of his son, he finally found a place to call home where he can rest.
Great fight, shows alot from how kratos has developed as a character at first not wanting to kill him, to the fight itself, kratos realising that he's not winning as easily as he thought, I like how it looked like kratos was pushed to the brink here to just to beat him, really sets the tone for an epic struggle the game will be sure to offer, still kratos dug deep and didn't let doubt creep in and won, great fight
Acnologia TheGod True yeah they were never easy, but ya gotta admit from little things kratos said in previous games for example "Olympians overestimate themselves" that he probably assumed it wouldn't be THAT hard lol

Part of why he struggled was because honestly, he was out of shape 🤣 the guy hasn’t had to fight seriously for some time now, he’s been enjoying having a family again. Some emotional healing for him, which would also explain why he can control himself far better now than in the past. Also, he isn’t using any of the weapons he’s most familiar with, like the Blades of Exile or the Blade of Olympus; he’s chosen to acquire a new weapon, his ice axe, and use a different fighting style using a one-handed weapon and shield. Even when he gets the Blades of Exile back, he can’t use them as aggressively as he did before since they aren’t painfully attached to his arms anymore.

I love the dialogue in this scene. It's structured so perfectly to convince you (and Kratos) that Baldur knows you're Greek, but on reflection, he thought you were a giant.
10:10 The ground shaking a part is really blowing my mind. This is how you design a fight between two super humans in 3D media I’ll tell you what. The earth and the environment around them starts to crumble.
OK, here is the timeline for Kratos's God power. 1st game ended with him being the God of War. 2nd game started with him loses his God power (invulnerability and regeneration) to the Blade of Olympus and dies. He remains just a demigod (being the son of Zeus) from then on till the end of the 3rd game. 3rd game ended with him stabbing himself with the Blade of Olympus, releasing the power of Hope inside him. BUT at the same time, he reabsorb his God power back from the Blade, making the blade stop glowing. This is the reason why he is able to survive and go to Norse Gods territory. However, it looks like that he was not able to absorb back ALL of his God power because while his regeneration power still works, he is starting to age in the new GOW. Proof of him having the power of God in the new GOW is when he first battle the Stranger, he got beaten down the crack and climbed back on. Then taking a deep breath, Kratos is able to regenerate his wounds from the previous battle. But we see that his regeneration is slower than the Stranger (a full God). So it is pretty conclusive that Kratos did not have his full Godhood back in the new GOW. The different between the new Kratos and the Stranger God power is that Kratos can age (slowly), has slower regeneration, and feels pain, and to a certain extends, can be kill if he got beheaded (stabbing/impelling would NOT kill him since the Stranger stabbed him with a pillar when they were at the Mimir's Gate and he stood up just fine after a few moment of regeneration). The Stranger's God power is immortality, invulnerability, regeneration, and SPOILER, cannot feel anything (pain, pleasure, temperature, touch, etc...). Furthermore, all Gods can change their appearance at will (as in looking young or old), but Kratos ages, as in getting weaker. Zeus looks older in GOW3 may be because it is to show power and wisdom, not because he has actually aged (getting weaker compares to when he was fighting the Titans). Like Freya in the new game, she does not looks old at all. That is because she chose to look like that. The rules of killing in GOW games is that ONLY a God can kill another God or you can be like Kratos and get the power of the Pandora Box to kill a God (GOW1). Baldur's is special because besides his Godly power (invulnerability (to regular people), regeneration, immortality (cannot ages)), he also has Freya's Old Magic on him so that he CANNOT be kill by a GOD also as seen when Kratos cannot kill him without the mistletoe arrow, and cannot feel "physical" feelings (he still has his emotions).
I would agree if the Greek Gods like Zeus didn't show obvious signs of aging. Odin too ages. Kratos makes several points on how LONG a time has passed since he came to Midgard so it stands to reason that it was long enough that he aged. He is half human as well so there is that, but if he hadn't reabsorbed all of his God powers from the Blade in GOW3, he wouldn't have survived being stabbed with the Blade in the first place or possess the obvious unbelievable strength portrayed in many cases in THIS game.
We know that just being a DemiGod along granted you with some level of regeneration, as seen in the fight with Hercules where you stabbed him multiple time and he was still fine (until you plummet his head, that is). So it is not a stretch to say that absorbing part of his God power back (let's say that is equivalent to a low level God), would grant you even higher regeneration power than a DemiGod, which allowed Kratos to survives the stab wound. And like I said, in the new GOW, he also got stabbing by a rock pillar through his stomach, a similar wound as the one in GOW3 ending (although not as destructive since the weapon was not Godly), and he survived that just fine after some regeneration time. To me, Kratos aging is a sign of his imperfect God power. Just look at Aphrodite and Athena who were full God. They didn't look old at all after all this time. That's why I see Zeus being "old-looking" is just what he wanted to appear at, to show his wisdom and knowledge as a ruler. I am sure he can reverse back to a young man in a flash if he wanted to.
The first fight with Baldur reminded me so much of Man of Steel, the fight between Clark and Zod. And both ended with a necksnap which is a cool coincidence. Truly, a fight between gods

Time Portal Baldur survived having a boulder being dropped on him. Prime kratos with the blade of olympus nearly died after being squished by the colussus's hand. It would still be a close fight...
Kratos is not that much weaker in gow4 compare to previous game. He is actually a better warrior because he is able to calm himself. The only difference is Kratos’ equipment in this gow 4,which Kratos had much more powerful weapons in the gow3. If Kratos had the blade of Olympus, even Odin could fall to him easily.
Actually The Kratos from GOW3 would of finished Balber off much quicker because he didn't have a conscience, had more drive in 'Spartan Rage'. This would of extended and increase his Spartan-Rage abililty and it would of lasted much longer. Edit: 😂HECK! Instead of chocking him to death Younger Kratos would torn is head apart bare-handed like he did to 'Helios'

@@qwertydavid8070 its like in the movie revenant

Kratos: You don’t want no smoke....
Baldur: Oh. I believe I do....

Still got his ass beaten
Takatathien you spent hours writing that ight?
