But God of War completely blew my hair back and it’s my favorite game of the series. And this scene right here is what solidified it as an all time great.
As a father myself, the tone of fear in Kratos's voice from being worried about Atreus is so heart wrenching. He may be harsh, but his love for his son is unquestionable. The VAs for these characters are incredible.

The storytelling through Cory Barlog’s masterful directing is phenomenal. It’s the best I’ve ever seen in a video game. The consistent level of high quality material in this game is truly breathtaking. The stars aligned for God of War 2018 and I hope they achieve greatness once again with Ragnarok.
When he said he's Ill, I felt for the first time how this force of nature, killer of gods, lifter of mountains, felt helpless. This is such a strong emotion to relate to as a father myself. It could be a reference to the original myth, where she didn't give Baldr protection against the plant due to overlooking it's danger. She may have just thought that, "it's only a small amount, it's not attached to a weapon or anything." Either that, or its a slight plot hole.

Edward Kenway I played the originals so understand where you’re coming from, but my friend never has. As soon as the blades appeared, I squealed like a little bitch while he just sorta shrugged. His words pissed me off so much, ‘WTF is wrong with you, they’re just swords.’
I never played the original but I always had huge respect for them, when I got the blades of chaos all I knew was that shit was gonna get serious and that Kratos truly is and will always be a badass
Never played the old games, but I got a ridiculous feeling of epic nostalgia when I got the Blades. I haven't felt like that since going back to Shadow Moses in MGS4.
in this scene, the blades of chaos means more than just a weapon, you may think it's nothing more than just a nostalgic item to serve those hard core fans, but it's not, the blades represents a dark pass that Kratos buried away and choose to forget, but now he has to face his pass again, for his son, Athena taunts Kratos about his past as he pick up the blades, yes, in order to save his son he must become who he was once more, but as a different monster, driven by love instead of anger, that's why he says "i am your monster no longer".
The devs were so smart. When i watched the trailer I loved the axe, and I thought to myself, well... I guess the blades just didn't fit for the new camera. I was wrong. And very excited when I he got them back
Ignatius David Partogi 2 reasons Those blades caused the death of the gods, and thus plunged the world into chaos, therefore ‘blades of chaos’ Developers forgot.
The blades of chaos were never destroyed. Ares ripped them off and plunged them into his family during their fight. After, Athena gifted kratos with brand new blades called the blades of Athena, which she then turned into the blades of exile, which were then destroyed. So knowing kratos, he retrieved the blades of chaos after his fight with ares and refused to use them again, and kept them as a reminder of his failure
@Ignatius David Partogi there is no plot hole dude, the blades of chaos were never destroyed, just replaced. Kratos could have easily gone back to retrieve them after his battle with ares
For us, it’s a dream come true to see Kratos swing the chaotic blades of the former war God. For Kratos, it must be Hel to wrap the chains around his forearms again, like the time Ares first wrapped them. Feeling the undeniably painful burn of the Blades of Chaos forcefully wrapped on his forearms.
If he binds it to his flesh then it's permanent again But he put them on his guards so its a work around i guess Still wonder where he had them all this time Right after the first game Athena gives him new blades that have the same powers but no oath of mortal service
Its like the time John Marston put on his bounty outfit in RDR2. These two games will rule the gaming industry for a while. Because there is nothing gamers love more than seeing a badass character become badass again

Oh man, I was screaming with happiness to get back the beauties that are the blades of chaos. The leviathan axe was great but I would feel the blades insane speed would be so handy against certain enemies. I admit I would have felt sad if they didn’t make an appearance, but as the trophy achievement pops up: “ Hello again, old friend.” I was like YESSSS!!!!!!
As someone who grew up playing and loving the originals, this was perhaps my favorite scene in the entire game. Knowing all of Kratos history elevated this scene from great to extraordinary. Imo.
The fear of losing another child? He's already been through that. She is attached to him permanently, because of one God that he sold his soul to. Update: the novels that came out recently actually explained why he kept them. They are bound to Kratos for LIFE. He can't ever be rid of those cursed blades.
One the most powerful quote ever; this boy is not your past, he is your son and he needs his father. I'm a father with heavy past, every time I hear it, brings me goosebumps. Focus on the present time, past is past and you cannot change what happened but you have the Ultimate power to control your future.
Kratos just walking thru Athena straight on after his response is so great, shows that he is willing to face his past and who he is if it means saving his son.
People getting triggered by Kratos calling freya "Woman". Kratos IS that kind of man. Art and character design are also this. Just accept it and do not get triggered.

I HATE that this was posted the day the game was released, especially with the title and thumbnail the uploaded chose.I mean literally everyone who saw the thumbnail that day had what was arguable the biggest moment in the game spoiled for them
I'd argue just knowing the blades are in the game isn't bad. It's the reason why he gets the blades, the journey to the blades, and the discovery on how they work in this combat system that makes the moment what it is. So as long as you didn't watch the video before you got to this point in the game, you're all good. If you did though after seein the title and thumbnail, that's on you though (spoken from someone that was looking for something else and has yet to play this god of war).
At first when he said he had to dug up his past I wasn't sure he was talking about them since I thought they couldn't really fit with the pace of the game, but when I saw Athena on the boat, I was hyped AF. Easily one of the best parts in the game.
The pacing back and forth he did on the elevator was a thoughtful touch. With all of his gruff, sternness, and disdain toward Atreus, there’s no question that he truly loves his son and his concern is something only a loving parent with a very ill child can relate to.
Yeah, but how does it retract? Do the chains infinitely grow and shrink? How do they keep connecting and reconnecting with the blades? Yes the most obvious answer is "because of magic" but I always thought that only applied to the blades them selves.
I remember this moment. The chills it sent up my spine. One of those moments in a game where the music, the visuals, the story all come together and dear god is it good.
well, Kratos always loved his wife and daughter on the previous saga. in Chains of Olympus, when he was given the chance to enter the Elysium Fields and reunite with his daughter once again, he didn't hesitate to dispose of all his powers to stay with her. but after knowing that if Atlas destroyed the roots of the world Calliope would be lost cause of the Fields being destroyed as well, he didn't have another choice to abandon her there and stop Atlas, and he couldn't see her anymore. That was one of the cruelest situations Kratos had to experience, no joke why he was so full of rage and hate towards the gods. the death of his family by his own hands (not intentionally) destroyed him.

As a long time fan of the series, I was skeptical of the game when it was announced. New voice actor, different type of gameplay, a potentially annoying kid following us around. But God of War completely blew my hair back and it’s my favorite game of the series. And this scene right here is what solidified it as an all time great.

It's weird, the kid was there with Freya for a while, and she didn't notice the mistletoe arrow tip on his chest.

Damn these dialogue always give me goosebump
in this scene, the blades of chaos means more than just a weapon, you may think it's nothing more than just a nostalgic item to serve those hard core fans, but it's not, the blades represents a dark pass that Kratos buried away and choose to forget, but now he has to face his pass again, for his son, Athena taunts Kratos about his past as he pick up the blades, yes, in order to save his son he must become who he was once more, but as a different monster, driven by love instead of anger, that's why he says "i am your monster no longer".
And here I thought that he wasn't their monster anymore because he murdered literally everyone.
Boi.
pass?
Alfred Khoo no shit
"pass" means "past"
The devs were so smart. When i watched the trailer I loved the axe, and I thought to myself, well... I guess the blades just didn't fit for the new camera.
I was wrong.
And very excited when I he got them back
Ignatius David Partogi 2 reasons
Those blades caused the death of the gods, and thus plunged the world into chaos, therefore ‘blades of chaos’
Developers forgot.
@Ignatius David Partogi then how are they in this game? And yes they were destroyed, the chains and handles were severed off
@Ignatius David Partogi there is no plot hole dude, the blades of chaos were never destroyed, just replaced. Kratos could have easily gone back to retrieve them after his battle with ares
@Ignatius David Partogi Kratos became the God of War thereby making him owner of all of Ares's weapons, including the Blades.

Still wonder where he had them all this time
Right after the first game Athena gives him new blades that have the same powers but no oath of mortal service
But how does the sheild work when it has the chains over it
That little bit of emotion when he said “I know” just goes to show how much he’s changed

Watching kratos actually care about the boy was the craziest character development we've ever seen in gaming history.
well, Kratos always loved his wife and daughter on the previous saga. in Chains of Olympus, when he was given the chance to enter the Elysium Fields and reunite with his daughter once again, he didn't hesitate to dispose of all his powers to stay with her. but after knowing that if Atlas destroyed the roots of the world Calliope would be lost cause of the Fields being destroyed as well, he didn't have another choice to abandon her there and stop Atlas, and he couldn't see her anymore. That was one of the cruelest situations Kratos had to experience, no joke why he was so full of rage and hate towards the gods.
the death of his family by his own hands (not intentionally) destroyed him.
