He robbed Freya of her son, her meaning, just like how she did to Baldur. Now Freya hates Kratos for the same reasons her son hated her. Perhaps Freya will finally be able to grasp how horribly she cursed her son and the torment she put him through. Kratos: **[thinking to himself]** He wants to know if he can turn into a God? When I became a God, all I wanted to know is how many women I could bed, and which God's heads I can rip off.
"No need to explain. Not to me. Not for that." Kratos repeats these same words to Freya in the next game at a very similar moment of weakness for her. Clearly, they had a big impact on him, so he shared the same healing for her.
Freya: you will never change Kratos: then you do not know me Freya: I know enough Me: girl if he hadn't changed at all you would be dead the midgard snake would be dead odin would be dead and asgard would be gone.
To be fair she had every right to be angry. She gave her son permission to kill her and was ready to die and Kratos fucked that up. In the process, he killed Freya's son, and no parent should ever have to bury their child, not even a god. That being said, I think Freya will think on it and maybe come to her senses down the road instead of trying to kkill Kratos and getting summarily ripped in half.
@@Stargazzer811 Agreed. I also feel that throughout the game Freya always thinks with her heart, rather than being overly calculating of her words and actions. That is why after making Baldur invincible she never once considered undoing the spell regardless of his pleads or what harmed he caused, because he was the world to her and she could only hope he would one day understand. She even went nuts when she saw Atreus’ mistletoe arrows on the odd chance that they would encounter her son, although she had no idea Baldur was in their realm at this point. People hate on her character but she acts like the average mother I know, except to godly proportions lol
@@pythonking16.59 I think she act by instincts, her maternal instinct told her to protect her child and that's all, she doesnt care if he become mad or want to kill himself, all she want was him being alive. Freya is the antagonist of the game, she is the opposite of Kratos that have put his son in danger but make him a better person and a loving son by telling him the truth and travel with him when Freya has been overprotective, anaware of the feelings of her son and seperated from him.
"I killed my father" "That was your father-" "And my uncle." "Oh him too?" "And my other uncle. And my sister. And my brother." "Oh you're still going."
Felt like Kratos left out the important part of, “I killed my wife and daughter and was eternally covered in their ashes.” Instead he shouted out father of the year Zeus.
I always felt that scene had missed the mark slightly, I always felt that Kratos killing his wife and daughter was far more impactful, it drove him to killing the entire pantheon, and cursed him with the ashes of his family forever pasted to his skin, him telling Atreus he killed Zeus felt a bit underwhelming given the other crazy shit he did.
He mentions it when he says it cost him his soul. All of his hate, anger, rage comes from that moment. That is what he means when he says it cost him his soul. He won’t ever tell Atreus about his first family because he is afraid of what will happen if he admits the truth.
13:37 This scene is probably the most important part of this game. Kratos, a demigod who killed the king of the gods, beat death and destroyed a world was reduced to so little when talking about his past, you can tell by the pain in his voice that he may’ve been strong in the past but it came at the price of his life, even after Kratos attempted suicide he could not die. Freya hasn’t cursed him, Zeus cursed him with living a long life while living with the pain along with it. What a way to write a character like Kratos!
"Can I turn into an animal?" "Can...you turn....into an animal?" *flashback to Kratos killing various Greek deities, titans, monsters and his own wife and child. Also a flashback to when he banged Aphrodite* "....No. I do not think you can turn into an animal."
Trix in the videogame Kratos will defeat Thor... in the comics well he didn’t last a minute to Thor if im not mistaken Thor defeat him, then fight against Hercules. .-.
A lot of people forget how much of a tactical fighter Kratos can be in situations. If he didn't exploit Pandora's temple on Cronos' back he probably would have been screwed lol.
I know this comment was a year ago lol but I just gotta day I don’t think he will. Tho I’m sure it’s possible since they’ve already pretty much broken the Norse universe by having Loki see his son before he is even born and Kratos killing many gods prematurely I feel like they’ll have Kratos be killed by Thor and you’ll have to play as Atreus for the rest of the game because I’m sure Freya would send Thor only on Kratos since he killed Thors son and hers
@dark zeratul Kratos stopped it because of his mistakes in the past where he killed Zeus. Thus the dialogue *The cycle ends here.* Gods killing their brothers, sisters and parents. He didn't want that to happen on his watch.
When Kratos brought his boy to Fraya, it was the only time you heard fear in Kratos voice in all the games. He wasn't scared to climb Mount Olympis with Titans to take on ALL the God's. He wasn't scared to kill his father. He was terrified to lose his boy.
@@MrTBSC See, what youve just done is create a paradox, because Kratos is essentially the god of god slaying. so now their destruction just keeps bouncing back off eachother, growing exponentially stronger, until one of them can't destroy enough and gets destroyed. *and this process will take a while*

I really wish we could meet Faye. She was able to do what no other person or god in all of creation could do: She gave Kratos not just his humanity back, but also gave him peace... all through the journey with their son whom Kratos couldn't bear to see become him.
Kratos was definitely already clawing some of his humanity back, what with the way he chose to go into exile and live a humble life in another land, but she definitely sped things along.
i love how like kratos literally looks like he is about to break down when he is telling atreus the real backstory, most noticeable when he is saying "i killed many who were deserving, and many who were not" so deep
13:45 Throw back, I don’t think you included this, but Kratos told Atreus his origins before, not in as much detail, but it’s the story of how he sold his soul. He tell Atreus this when you’re boating, it goes like this: There was a horse that wanted vengeance on a stag, he called upon a hunter to help, let the hunter ride him on a saddle. Together they killed the stag, but the hunter enslaved the horse, and wouldn’t let him go It doesn’t exactly go like that, but that was all I could remember
No actually cronos killed his father, the sky, zues imprisoned cronos and kratos killed cronos and zues but zues killed kratos so the cycle would end but you know
A parents love can be boundless, even to the point of destruction. Some would do anything for their children...and then you have the absolute opposite.
He was probably confused and trying to figure out if his son was joking and you can see the relieve in his tension when he notices how well atreus took that info
You can hear real pain in Kratos' voice when he lays Atraeus down on the table. Oh my god the voice acting is incredible. *IT ACTUALLY MAKES ME WANNA CRY BECAUSE SOMEONE AS BADASS AS KRATOS FEELS PAIN LIKE THIS*
"BOY, Listen close, I am from a land called Sparta..." and when the music kicked in after he said that you can feel his rage of what he used to be, but not rage toward the gods but to what he used to be. Through all the games you begin to feel the pain of kratos. And as you see his story it's like the ashes of his sins are now yours. Every fight, every word spoken, and every action taken is yours as well. Every true gamer knows exactly what I'm talking about.
This is the only game which properly explains tough love between father and son. The story was too good. I like the parts where Kratos has a father and son moment with Atreus.
If Kratos ever ended up in the Roman pantheon I bet he'd be so confused. He'd looked at Jupiter and go : "Hmm.. You remind of someone I knew you know..." and automatically have an innate detest for Mars lol
Yes and no. He always had god-blood. He just didn't step into his divinity till later through killing Ares. But the blood remains. He was a god and a human, and his choices led him to his path.
"The Realm of the Dead, do you know it?" "Not this one... " You couldn't be as cool as Kratos, walking in 2 different worlds of the undead, Hell and Hel
I didn't know it was him before, but then listening, there are many things Kratos says that Tiel'k would have lol, and in the same tone of voice too. "Why do you not speak?"
Man, Baldur. I never noticed this in the heat of moment but when he says Snow and his eyes light up one last time. It must have been brutal to feel nothing for so many lifetimes. No wonder he hated his mother and wanted to kill her. And then he finally felt snow and it was a bliss. Imaigne being unable to enjoy sex, a hug, maybe even taste, smell. Just no feelings at all. Except raw emotional hatred. Poor guy.
Greatest American Hero Based on her reaction as she departed, as if she had something to say but decided not to, I think as Mimir suggests, she knows that Kratos made the right decision. It's just that she's lived her entire life hoping to meet Baldur and make ammends with him now that he's gone her life feels meaningless. I don't think she hates Kratos per se, rather she just doesn't know what to live for any more and she blames him for that and will continue to do so until she gets over Baldur's death.
3:38 I think this is one of the few if only moments in the series you see kratos genuinely terrified. And he's actually terrified that he's going to lose everything he cares about once AGAIN.
*Atreus:* "Can I turn into a animal?" *Kratos:* "A animal?...BOI, your grandfather could turn into a eagle, maybe you can too, he could also shapeshift into a old man and a ripped old man, change his size. So pray that you took from my part of the family"
Every callback to the older games were perfectly executed, they held weight to it, we played that rage and now we see his regret and sorrow. It's beautiful.
He was born a human, made a deal then become a demi-god. Killed a god and ascended as a full-fledged god, betrayed by a god. Become a demi-god again, then became stronger than ever with all the weapons he has. He is the God of War
Knowing what I know, after playing Ragnarok, this scene strikes hard than even normal. 200% props to the people who worked on both games. You can tell they had the storyline planned out WAY ahead of time.
I never noticed the little touch of effort in Kratos' voice as he shoved the boat from the dock at 8:29...that was a nice touch to the realize of the whole thing
You can hear the fear in Kratos's voice when he's pounding of Freya's door. Only a father who's had that experience of feeling helpless when their child is sick would know that sound. Great work from Christopher Judge! 👍
It was really a challenge to hold back the tears, just seeing how much Kratos has changed, from a murdering rage machine to a wise, protective collected grief-stricken father... I think Kratos was always a great father, even when he was with his daughter, He always loved his children.. Kratos is not afraid of what happens to him, So that is why he is prepared to be cursed by Freya, this truly a great story and an amazing game!!! the next game is gonna be awesome!!! We will get to see Asgard and the remaining pantheon of Norse gods!!!

there was this one time when he tuned himself into snake, knowing that Thor loves snake so of course he went to pick it up and admire it then Atreus was all like blaaahhh its me than he stabs him :)
When I was growing up, GOW 3 was the first game I ever played, and I always saw Kratos as this fierce ruthless warrior, but now I don't see him like that anymore.
Yeah probably not the best thing to open with when telling the truth to your young son.
@@JMon2021 I doubt he’d reveal he murdered his family and has their ashes caked on his skin to his son.
