    Nice to see a UA-cam guide give a starter house guide that's actually a starter house and not a bronze age (or sometimes with even swamp items) house disguised as a 'starter house'. A good design. I often do a center fireplace myself, even in multi-story houses. Pointer, you can deconstruct wood piles (or any pile) with the hammer. No need to switch to axe.

      Thanks! That is exactly what I was going for. And thanks for the tip on the hammer…so much switching time wasted!

    Finally! Finally someone made an instruction for a real starting house. Without unnecessary decorations, and still not an ugly box. Easy to build and clear instruction. That's what beginners should do. One thing is not mentioned, and it should, is how to rise the ground and then level it to floor level for the fireplace.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  Рік тому +7

      That is exactly what I was going for! I am relatively new to the game myself and this was the first thing that I went to look up on UA-cam. Every “starter” house had cut stone and a bunch advanced stuff and I couldn’t really find one that fit the bill. So I made it myself!

One extension is bed (on 1m raised platform with chests below) plus any comfort, one is cooking area with at least 18 storage chests (6 wide x 3 high), one is crafting area with workbench and 18 more chests, and last is entry. The floor is at least 2m above ground so all workbench enhancements go under the floor. Thatch roof with inside and outside corners, extended out from walls to protect anything underneath. One standard stair from entrance. It won't reach the ground, but you can easily jump to it. Surround it with a continuous stake wall set at least 6m from house walls.

I use half-walls for foundations and add vertical wood beams between segments then extend to the roof with angled beams. Sorry, man. Agreed that I should have added a bit more detail in that part especially. If you haven’t figured it out, build the roof row by row starting from the wall. That will keep you from overextending it and having it fall.

    Ultimate noob here... I have not even launched the game for the first time. I just watched a few videos to get a feel for the game, and sumbled on this one. Love the house.
    Dumb question: How early in the game is this possible? Almost immediately? Right after killing the first boss but before moving to the next biome?
    I ask because I am tempted to take my time at the start to fully explore the first biome and do as much as possible before moving forward. If it is feasible right away, it seems that getting to resources to build this home would get me familiarized with the basics of the game and result in a pretty nice starter home for my next adventure.

  • @Darkkfated
    @Darkkfated Рік тому +2

    16 Stacks of wood is way too heavy to carry (100 per stack, max is 300 early game).
    What to do? Don't forget that you can put stacks of wood in a chest, or you can "build" a Wood Stack on the ground with your Hammer (it's in the Misc. tab).
    Go out, fill up your inventory with as much wood as you can (about 2 and a half stacks normally), run back to the build site and store it. Repeat this a few times until you have several stacks, which is at least enough to get the foundations down and hopefully some of the roof as well, then you can go back for more.
    Unless you wanna do 7 "Wood runs" in a row, depends on your tolerance for grinding. I like to alternate getting wood and building, it's less tedious for me that way, but your mileage may vary.

    A couple notes:
    This is a very resource-inefficient design for the benefit of aesthetics. Which is fine as far as it goes, but you don't necessarily want to be cutting and assembling this much wood for every outpost as your explored area expands.
    This design is fairly exposed/vulnerable to "The forest is moving" and especially later "The ground is shaking" events. Protecting it will require even more resources. Again, not such a big deal for a one-off, but not something you'd necessarily want to be repeating across your map.
    Also, when it comes to picking a site, if you are going to invest in a big centrally-located base for your adventures, you'll want it to be nearby navigable water that is not a spawn-point for necks, so you can have someplace convenient to park a boat that you won't have to be constantly repairing.

    • @DrLootCrate
      @DrLootCrate  Рік тому +1

      Good notes. You can definitely get by with a shelter that uses a lot less wood, but my style is to take my time and I enjoy the building. I actually had written down to talk about adding stakewalls at a minimum, but I forgot!
      You are right about the necks. Maybe you have built another place by then, maybe night. But a good shout if you are planning on staying here for a while

    • @InfernosReaper
      @InfernosReaper Рік тому

      While I like the build, I do agree is a bit big and a wood vampire for players to start with. That said, it's good for a proper house.
      For exploring and first habitats, honestly, best to do camps consisting of a 2x3 or 3x3 stakewall shack, depending on the group size(maybe a 2x2 at 70-80 wood, if you are solo and get good at building). Forest tends to have enough ruined towers that can be made into camps with a stack of wood or 2 that it isn't really necessary to do shacks. Swamps lack that, but you can build on top of crypts or in trees instead.
      By plains, the stake wall approach no longer works well, so you're going to want the build your shack on a smelter(all the benefits of stone with no stonecutter required)
