@DrLootCrate it's definitely people like me that are banging their head wondering why trains are still colliding or why signals are showing the ! So many people explained needing the two signals but never explained why so it made it hard to apply that knowledge to the different rail layouts you run into. I'm not surprised the views are lower just because it's such a specific problem but I can see this helping people now and in 5 years. It's very valuable info!

I personally can't stand working with stackable conveyer poles. I much prefer to use the walls with the 1/2/3 holes. Aesthetically though you've hit the nail on the head.

Kind of hops around a bit while building the walls. Makes it tough to follow which wall you are working on with no compass. Some of the posts were placed off camera. Early parts of the video show walls placed, and then later there are no walls yet placed. It is a simple enough design I think I can figure out where everything goes. A bit more linear step by step would be even more clear, every piece placed on camera in order. Thank you for the design. I was struggling with the basic mechanics of even placing a workbench and fire properly. You've given me some good ideas I can build with. Overall very helpful video, and much appreciated. Thanks again.

Mmmm not sure about this…. Biomass power sucks so while I do automate two biomass lines so I can dump leaves in one container and wood in another I do a BUNCH of hand crafting to rush coal power before going “automation only” (even then I rush early objectives and build crafting benches all over the map until I’m getting dimensional storage). I also rush tickets to get ladders unlocked in awesome shop.

@DrLootCrate I've definitely got some time in the game now but I keep waffling back and forth between a balanced load design and manifold, depending on what I'm producing and how easy it is to transfer X amount to various other parts; but for some reason it never occurred to me to have the finished products feed back up above the machines. This is great for keeping at least my basic materials much more organized as I found a spot with 4 normal iron nodes all pretty close together, so I've got 3 of the nodes each devoted to screws, plates, and rods on their own and the last going into steel production for pipes and beams.

the first design is something i came up with experimenting as well, it fits nicely in an mk2 blueprint designer and is easily reproducible, the second design is cool aesthetically but kinda hard to blueprint reproduce

Another method not covered here is to just use a mixed belt and then feed manufacturers like they were constructors. I could write a novel about this so instead I will explain a simple example and then give some abstracts to consider! Let’s take the default computer recipe: it takes 4 circuit boards, 8 cables and 16 plastic. You should remember how to simplify ratios so that gives us 1:2:4 at 70 items per minute. You’ll need a mk2 at minimum at the end. Your natural inclination to mix a belt would be merge circuits and cables 1:2 using three ports of a merger then the resulting cable/circuit belt merged evenly with plastic. That would get you close but mixed belts MUST be precise at the ratio level or on the long term they will jam (eventually). What we have here is actually 4:3 plastic:mixed which a simple merge won’t do. So, an important note about belt mixer devices made of splitters and mergers is the ratio must be divisible by two OR three. 1+2+4=7 items per cycle which isn’t evenly divisible by two OR three so we have a problem here! How do we correct it? Same as in load balancers that feed some of a split that isnt evenly divisible by two or three further back in the system but in our case using an unrelated filler item and a smart splitter! Let’s presume iron ore because you will have it lying around and will only need a handful to prime a mixer. So we merge iron ore and circuits (2 items) we merge that 1:1 with cables (4items) we merge that 1:1 with plastic (8 items, evenly divisible by two) we have the smart splitter feed the iron ore back to where it’s needed at the start of a chain (minus 1 with that removal of the ore, equals seven items) since the iron ore never actually goes anywhere you only need 10-20 of it to float around the system. You then run “any undefined” further to your manufacturers and if you want to be fancy you can do your future self a favour by defining an overflow that feeds into a storage (or a short belt you can grab off of). Your final result will be Circuit Board, Plastic, Cable, Plastic, <GAP>, Plastic, Cable, Plastic. The exact amount for computers That gap will smoosh out down the line as any gaps do. Is it scalable? Yes! I said “belt” and whether mk2 (as this recipe is 70 items per minute mk1 is unideal. You can do it if you really want, I guess) or mk6 as long as all the input belts are always full and all mixer belts run at the same speed the same ratio will be made at 70 items per minute or 770. is it splittable? Yes! But only with load balancers, manifolds are a bit screwy and break eventually as they do not respect ratios. My testing reveals if every station is fully primed at the start before machines are turned on they work longER but not forever. Two points on this: first and most importantly load balancers are objectively better for the default use case outside of some edge use cases you want a manifold for so this is fine. Yes, objectively. For all use cases but the few that manifolds excel at. You can rotate an elevator to connect to a merger/splitter beneath another and nudge it flush and or nudge the merger/splitter and rotate the belt and attach another splitter/merger in any shape you wish. Therefor: Load balancers are smaller, load balancers are even, load balancers never jam, load balancers respect any item ratios and load balancers begin production immediately. *Objectively* superior in the _generic_ use case. Second, since each mixed belt is purposely mixed to accommodate one singular fixed recipe a manifolds use cases don’t matter. Manifolds will spill overflow materials out of their tail end with a smart splitter and can be used for “belt logic” where the belt itself functions like a logic gate and will vary materials depending on usage (like what we did with the iron ore earlier using a tiny manifold). You will never feed a mixed belt manifolds overflow somewhere else like you might feed a single item with several use cases a la copper ingots using belt logic. So it’s fine. Though I am an advocate of mixed belts due to the many obvious pros mixed belts have two notable cons that you should know in good faith. Most mixed belt recipes take manual attention to set up the first time, though some are nice and only ask for X full belts. But other than those you must feed a filler item into the system from a storage, manually make sure the filler item doesn’t overflow it’s “buffer(s)” (the belt(s) feeding back from the end smart splitter to any mergers, if it overspills the mixer won’t work. It’s not difficult, it just has to be done by eye until you know how many fillers fit your BP, for my computer mixer it is 5 since the feedback buffer is a single elevator). And until all belts are full and the machine has hit its stride you’ll get some early “mix fails” you gotta grab by hand. Once all belts are backed up it works, and as long as they stay full. It works. Second, should one belt ever go empty because you are a goober and accidentally messed up the train deliveries or bungled production or whatever you’re gonna be in for a bad time. A mixer only mixes by ratio, if an items value is zero it doesn’t get mixed and it must be flushed. Remember I said be kind to your future self and have that smart splitter at the end of the mixer have an overflow? Well be even kinder and give the splitters that feed your manufacturers an overflow smart splitter too, then you only need replace the short belts into them and have the option to feed the overflow belts into a storage. This is entirely avoidable by using priority switches and powering down factory segments when you’re going to tinker with their upstream. Going to overhaul plastic production or redo the rails the train takes to deliver plastic? Just shut off the computer assembly wing for a while whilst the ratio is perfect. It’ll boot up clean every time as long as the system doesn’t run dry. But we plan for our own absentmindedness and those overflow splitters are great when you beef it. Give it a try, you’ll love it! (Or not, but then you know your preferred practices) 😁👍

Siri this is an interesting video and design. But I'm gonna give you a bit of constructive feedback and I hope you'll take it. The first part of your video was good in explaining how you do the set up initially. But the second half of the video completely got lost in my opinion because you did this high speed run of it which was painful to watch and didn't really provide much good feedback on setting up the most difficult part and the part you might think is boring the belt set up. Therefore in your future videos could you please consider not doing the high speed set up and give people a chance to absorb the information as opposed to having a flash by your eyes like trying to watch the Road Runner do something going down the road.

Excellent video and still relevant after 1.0! Key takeaway for me here: scale production with these 1-click factories by building more of them, rather than trying to cram more into them. I was trying to get a factory with two assemblers running stitched iron plates and couldn’t make it fit without 1-meter floors or lots of clipping. Have a blueprint with half the production and build two of them. These blueprints end up being a new type of production machine that’s a compound of constructors, assemblers, and manufacturers.

Putting splitters and mergers in the same direction is obviously wrong, anytime you'll want to add a blueprint you'll have to redo your output. If you put them in the opposite direction they will stack and scale. if you use 1 fondation and a half it looks better if you nuge your assembler to center it.
