To me this is the dealbreaker in a PS5 Pro recommendation. If you aren't someone who sought out a TV with HDMI 2.1, I absolutely wouldn't recommend the Pro. You won't see the benefits. What I've enjoyed, for example: it's easier to shoot enemies in RE4 with 90-100 fps, Madden is more enjoyable and lifelike with the higher frame rate and resolution combined, plus Gran Turismo has become the game that has me noticing the difference between 120 fps and 60 (the RT update this week is pretty cool!). They're small, but I think you have to enjoy those little things.
Do most people even have PCs capable of doing 120hz if its not in 1080p? Wasnt the most popular gpu on steam like 3060s or something? I legit havent looked in a long time. Correct me if im wrong. You probably have a budget cpu paired with it if i had to guess I would love it if 120hz was a regular thing everywhere, but we are barely hitting consistent 60fps on consoles...seems like you are trying to run before you can walk here 🤷
I'm just tired of targeted frame rates not being met. I'm tired of a 120 frame cap being anywhere from 120 to 70. I'm tired of a 60 cap being 60 to 50. I'm tired of 30 caps even being 30 to 25. Start actually meeting these goals with whatever cut backs needs to happen. I would take stability over anything else any day.
Yes. Of the few console games that I've tried that actually have this option, it has actually been really solid in each of them. I'll take that frame rate over Ray tracing every time
Not entirely sure everyone wants to remortgage the house and sell one or maybe two of the kids to a child sex trafficking ring just to be able to afford a high end gaming PC whilst simultaneously having to wait 14 years for Rockstar to release GTA 6 on PC just like they had to wait 14 years for them to release Red Dead Redemption on PC
you misunderstood. he's not asking for full raytracing at 120fps. he's saying that with a 120hz tv you can run a ray traced game at 40fps instead of 30fps (because 120 can be evenly divided by 40 which means no stutter) the jump from 30fps to 40fps doesn't sound like much but it's actually a huge deal. even though it's only a 10fps difference it makes games run a lot smoother
Hell not only this but also ps4 games should use vrr. Xbox backwards compat games use vrr. Playing gears of war games on vrr is like the most pleasurable thing in gaming imo. I couldn’t live without vrr on a modern console
Of course they will have that data. Almost everyone does it. If something is in their best interests, they will do it. Valve even releases all of that Steam hardware/software data to the public on a regular basis.
Yep my Samsung OLED 55" Q70 that only has HDMI 2.0 (Samsung was behind the curve several years ago) and the VRR causes my screen to flicker a black screen making games unplayable, even when it's telling me it's technically compatible with VRR at 4K 60fps, whereas my Xbox Series X runs PERFECTLY at 120fps with VRR at 1440p. Simply put, Xbox Series X is able to function so much better with HDMI 2.0 than any PS5 can.
The ps5 pro should actually start targeting more plentiful 1st party video games like the PS1 ps2 ps3 and ps4 days. Treating a console like a PC has been the worse thing to happen with consoles.
Just upgrade your display to 120hz vrr and stick to your base ps5 and series x. Its a much better upgrade if youre still on 60hz, and cheaper if you shop right.

Hi DF, You should do a video on EA Madden 25 and College Football 25 for the PS5 Pro-both are top 10 best-selling games in the PS Store. However, both games are locked at 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro, while the Xbox Series X offers 120Hz for both titles. Is this due to a CPU limitation on the PS5 Pro?
I don't think it can be a CPU limit. Both use the same CPU with different clock speeds. Series X is 3.8GHz, base PS5 is 3.5GHz, and PS5 Pro is increased to 3.85GHz. So any game on the Pro should be just as good from the CPU side as the Series X.
System level 120hz is not the same as the game software supporting 120fps. Turning on 120hz mode on Xbox doesn't make the game play at 120fps. It simply gives the Xbox the ability to leverage the built in LFC which allow the framerate to dip below 48fps and still maintain VRR. Only software that actually support 120fps allows the game to attempt to play at framerates above 60fps, setting the system to 120hz mode on a 60fps game on the xbox means that if the game drops below 48fps the VRR will remain engaged due to the internal system level LFC (low framerate compensation). On PS5 and PS5 pro because the system does not have a 120hz mode seperate of the game supporting 120fps, if the framerate drops below 48fps the VRR will disengage and the screen will tear. This requires developers to more closely adhere to the hdmi 2.1 specification instead of rely on VRR to bail out low framerates which would notmally cause screen tearing. Its why games like Elden Ring can have dips into the low 40's and not have screen tearing whereas the PS5 needs to stay above 48fps to avoid screen tearing. This is why the Pro is such a benefit for all games, especially those that are GPU limited, because the increase in GPU capabilities allow those games to run much higher into the VRR range (even those modes that were not intended for high framerates, like Elden Ring which allows the resolution mode to run into the 50- 55fps range).
Id say before talking about 120hz 4K first You should at least get to 60 FPS... Even that is nearly impossible. We all saw how well PS5 Pro runs games... at 864p

@themarcshark Yep! People just bitch about the 2-3 games that devs messed up on. RE4 you'll get over 100fps. 100-110 and it still looks crisp 4k. I was shocked. Even with RT on you're getting 80-94fps with crisp visuals
Sammy 65" Q90T currently paired with PS5 Pro. Currently comparing the G4 & S95D for my newer TV purchase in 2025 if rumored G5 & s95F units arent much different.
The absolute most solid 40 fps on 120 hz with the graphical bells and whistles. This was the reason I got a PS5 and a LG C1 (Ratchet and Clank), as I thought it would become the norm (Seems to just be Sony "first party" titles). I just don't see an excuse now, especially with the Pro existing.
Yes please, I’m going to shoot for 120hz for MotorCubs RC, our PS5 racing game set in Monument Valley.
Do most people even have PCs capable of doing 120hz if its not in 1080p? Wasnt the most popular gpu on steam like 3060s or something? I legit havent looked in a long time. Correct me if im wrong. I would be willing to bet if you are rocking a 3060, you dont have a 13th gen intel or 5800x3d above it...just a hunch, again correct me if im wrong. You probably have a budget cpu paired with it if i had to guess
I would love it if 120hz was a regular thing everywhere, but we are barely hitting consistent 60fps on consoles...seems like you are trying to run before you can walk here 🤷
I brought a Sony A95k for my PS5, Xbox series X and now my PS5 Pro. And yes I have a PC with a 4090. I still prefer playing on console over PC.
No it should target both to reach a broader audience. You shouldnt need vrr to access sub 60 frames.
I bought the Samsung s90d when I bought the pro!!! Upgraded from a 120hz TCL
Same! Shit is pretty lol
Pretty fucking awesome!! LFG MATRIX BOY
Which tcl? Mini led?
@@gangs0846 I don’t even care, the tcl is garbage compared to my new Samsung s90d
Native 1440p at 48-60 fps upscaled to 4K 120Hz (VRR) with PSSR + FSR3 FG should be the way to go.
Yes. Of the few console games that I've tried that actually have this option, it has actually been really solid in each of them. I'll take that frame rate over Ray tracing every time
For multiplayer yes. Im hoping the new bf and delta force has 120hz options
Stable framerate/4K and perhaps some basic RTX should be the standard
It is SIE's negligence that it did not support VRR LFC and that the UAC version is 1.0.
I couldn't predict that it wouldn't improve even with Pro.
I don't use VRR because I use game motion plus. If you try that with Samsung going back to regular 60fps feels jerky.
Do you have to turn off VRR to use game motion plus?
@Xavier-do6ty yes. Maybe Samsung can add VRR support to game motion plus in future TVs.
Every game should have an option for 120hz with VRR.
Literally just makes your game future proofed for Ps6-7
I have the BENQ MOBIUZ 48”OLED 4K 120hz Monitor, which is HDMI 2.1, VRR support. I highly recommend for PS5 Pro!
Glaring at my perfectly functional LG B8
Games who do not include it shouldn’t pass certification
Dude really asked about full fat ray tracing and 120fps on a $700 console? Get a high-end PC lol.
Not entirely sure everyone wants to remortgage the house and sell one or maybe two of the kids to a child sex trafficking ring just to be able to afford a high end gaming PC whilst simultaneously having to wait 14 years for Rockstar to release GTA 6 on PC just like they had to wait 14 years for them to release Red Dead Redemption on PC
you misunderstood. he's not asking for full raytracing at 120fps. he's saying that with a 120hz tv you can run a ray traced game at 40fps instead of 30fps (because 120 can be evenly divided by 40 which means no stutter)
the jump from 30fps to 40fps doesn't sound like much but it's actually a huge deal. even though it's only a 10fps difference it makes games run a lot smoother
💚🎮 MY SERIES X + MY LG C2 + HDMI 2.1 + GAME OPTIMIZER = 4K 120
Hell not only this but also ps4 games should use vrr. Xbox backwards compat games use vrr. Playing gears of war games on vrr is like the most pleasurable thing in gaming imo. I couldn’t live without vrr on a modern console
I have an LG C1 48 inch TV as a monitor display, so it was a no brainer to get the Pro. Next up Xbox Series X for Stalker 2😍
Maybe a more reasonable target for the pro would be to hit 1080p native in modern games?
Of course they will have that data. Almost everyone does it. If something is in their best interests, they will do it. Valve even releases all of that Steam hardware/software data to the public on a regular basis.
Does it have a 48gb HDMI 2.1 or are we still f* at sub sampling 4.2.2. or DSC available
A 120 Hz TV with VRR coupled with games who support it, is a great experience.
I only have a 4k60 tv currently but the pro will guarantee my longevity when i eventually do get a better tv
If you have a decent monitor and game at a desk. 120 1440p is all you need . Totally different if you play in a living room on a huge tv
120hz is quite common on tv's i bet even a majority regular ps5 users have a 4k120hz tv atleast i do
Yep my Samsung OLED 55" Q70 that only has HDMI 2.0 (Samsung was behind the curve several years ago) and the VRR causes my screen to flicker a black screen making games unplayable, even when it's telling me it's technically compatible with VRR at 4K 60fps, whereas my Xbox Series X runs PERFECTLY at 120fps with VRR at 1440p. Simply put, Xbox Series X is able to function so much better with HDMI 2.0 than any PS5 can.
I don’t like VRR flicker on any OLED based panels.
Vrr flicker is not limited to a certain display type it happens on all screens
The ps5 pro should actually start targeting more plentiful 1st party video games like the PS1 ps2 ps3 and ps4 days. Treating a console like a PC has been the worse thing to happen with consoles.
Just upgrade your display to 120hz vrr and stick to your base ps5 and series x. Its a much better upgrade if youre still on 60hz, and cheaper if you shop right.
I have a Sony a8g it's a brilliant TV it's a shame it doesn't have any of the HDMI 2.1 features considering I'm one of the people that bought the pro.
What sucks about Lies of P on the PS5 Pro is that VRR doesn’t work, and the Performance mode at 120Hz stutters or isn’t smooth in frequent instances.
Sony should make all PS5 Pro games look better and faster.
You do understand that its up to the developers and not Sony, right??
fps > quality settings, all day every day.
They couldn’t even if they tried
I own a LG C1 55 . Would the games look better with PS5 pro vs regular PS5?
I have a C2 and can tell the difference. Could imagine you would with a C1 aswell. If you do make sure to try Collisto Protocol and Horizon remastered. Both look amazing.
@ thanks!
My 2015 40" 4K 3D Samsung TV paired well with my SSDed PS4 then my SSDed Pro as the TV offered HDR & up to 60FPS but now my PS5 output features outperforms my TV. I need to upgrade...
Its built into the hdmi 2.1 standard. It is the way games will be played smoothly.
I have a non oled non vrr and non 120hz TV. Am I happy with the pro yes when it can hit RT at 60 FPS. 😅 Which most ATM can do.
I dont understand why 60 fps is not the standard across the board on base hardware
Is this clip from a while ago.. stellar Blade has an 80fps mode on pro with PSSR (1880p to 4k) giving better IQ than 4K native 60.
All PS5 games should have already been targeting 120 with VRR.
Can anyone explain why I'm getting 120fps in full 4k fidelity mode with the uncapped setting in The Last Of Us 2 on the pro? It seems strange no one is talking about pros handling of the fidelity mode in TLOU2.
40-60 fps 4K no RT would be ideal for future games. Why 40 fps? Because it has half the frametime of 30 fps.
40fps doesn't have half the frame time of 30fps loo
@fcukugimmeausername Yes it does. 40 fps has HALF the frametime of 30 fps.
@@ThunderTheBlackShadowKitty No it doesn't. Halving the frame time doubles the frame rate.
@@ThunderTheBlackShadowKitty The frametime of 30fps is 33.3ms & the frametime of 40fps is 25ms. You have to double the framerate to half the frametime, hence 60fps has half the frametime of 30fps at 16.6ms.
I just bought a PS5. it's coming tomorrow but I wasn't spending another £300 extra on the PS5 Pro. If I want 4K high refresh rate gaming I will boot up my PC with a 4080 Super in it.
I just wanted a playstation 5 to go with my PSVR2 I bought for my PC. And so I can just grab the controller and whack a game on without booting up my PC and finding a game. it's just easier sometimes. I am gonna get a PS Plus subscription as have no games on PS5 and am broke now lol.
Of course, this has been a thing on series X for years now.
It should at least gives us a stable 60 fps with good image quality... let's start there!
Let protest , we want to force the developers to not use that garbage TAA in their newer games from now on 😊
Shouldn’t even be a question atp.
I keep trying to reach Sony to ask for freesync and Dolby vision gaming support I cannot get through to anyone
Good luck with Dolby Vision, it's not an open format like HDR10
I would not even recommend buying a PS5Pro without being able to take full advantage of the features, then you basically pay a lot for less capability.
Majority of people who bought a ps5 pro have a 4K oled with vrr
where did you hear that mr senator?
@@D4C_LoveTrain1 if you bought a ps5 pro without a 4K oled with vrr you wasted your money it’s as simple as that

@@rashonkelly3598 yeah witch is self explanatory so logically you’d think the Majority of people who bought the pro would have a 4K vrr screen and if not they wasted there money
You have no proof of that. I can just as easily say that the majority of people who bought a ps5 pro have a 4K oled with NO vrr.
still rocking an LG E9 here
Not sure PS5 pro has enough power to play many games at 120 fps/hz unless people are willing to play at sub 1080p resolutions with PSSR turned on. Big tradeoff in image quality.
I don't even need to watch the video to say yes. For the price you pay for a Pro it should be using these features
I still have a 2019 4k hdmi 2.0 tv
I get all my technology from the back of Walmart
I don't understand what kind of question this is
Astrobot 120 FPS PSSR mode please Sony 🙏
Who's buying a ps5 pro and playing it on a 1080p screen? It's a no brainer
People who don't have the room for anything as large as a 1440p display or bigger but still want to take advantage of the other features? Someone who doesn't want to throw away a perfectly good display yet? I'm still gaming on a 1080p display right now because I don't have the room for 27", which is the minimum size for 2K.
120FPS for what???
For a dynamic 1080P downscaling up to 820P???

Hi DF,
You should do a video on EA Madden 25 and College Football 25 for the PS5 Pro-both are top 10 best-selling games in the PS Store.
@@sizablekoala6879 is it just a exclusivity between ea and Xbox to have their games run at 120hz
