It's insane how good these two were at their roles, if I wasn't as familiar as I am with the Columbine shooting I'd have easily believed this was real footage. Bit of a shame none of them pursued acting further.
As far as I know they're not "actors" in that sense, the director found people who "felt" real. A good chunk of the movie is actually improvised, they just had a loose script. such an unforgettable masterpiece - a film that could have easily come off as exploitive, opportunistic and “too soon” feels authentic and grounded in it’s depiction of high school alienation. one of the scariest movies i’ve seen to this day.. and mainly due to the performances of Andre and Calvin, who are so scarily convincing for two kids with essentially no acting experience whatsoever. it really drives home the fact that no one really knows what bubbling beneath the surface of angsty, misunderstood teens - it makes you connect with them, hoping that their plan is a sick fantasy and they won’t go through with it.. which makes the last ten minutes so much more horrifyingly grim. the repressed anger and undertones of a homoerotic relationship between Andre and Calvin is subtle and provocative - definitely the most fascinating and disturbing film made about school shootings in america to this day imo, great vid
This was a great film. I think that it being so b-grade made it that much more realistic, almost like being there. It was very grounded and gritty. The "horrors of reality" in that sense make terrible horror films. Especially considering people who like stuff like horror films have usually been there done that in terms of experience. So to them thats just real life, a part thats dark and most people have never seen, but not very scary, not much scarier than say driving day to day knowing youre far more likely to be mangled up or killed than you are in a school shooting. If driving's not scary why would the even less likely day to day shit lotto be scary? Now having your mind taken over by demon before being dragged to hell, thats scary. Hopefully the future generations don't see it memory holed and forgotten.

There's actually an 8 part Columbine Iceberg that talked about what you were talking about when you mentioned how people believe Dylan was influenced by Eric to commit the shooting.
Remember watching this a long time ago around when it first came out. At first I thought it was real footage but after I found out it was a project, wish it could’ve had a wider release
my main issue with elephant was that it felt to "sterile". void of emotion. which is like fine for the first half of the movie, which just protrays like "a normal day at school" which can be quite sterile and emotionless. but the second half it is still void of many emotionions IMHO. like the killers expressing very little emotions while carrying out what they did. which is the opposite of what witnesses report of the real life equivalents. they made it look more like they are robots instead of people who let their dark thoughts and emotions overcome them
it's interesting that they gave Calvin a Marilyn Manson shirt, considering he was the number 1 scapegoat for columbine at the time but it goes against reality as eric and dylan were not fans
there is another movie I think few people have seen based on a true crime, it contains one of the worst and most haunting scenes I have ever seen and I have seen alot. It is called playground or Plac zabaw untranslated. I would like if you made a video on it.
I remember watching this about 10 years ago when i was just a young teen and it disturbed me, but overtime it faded from my memory and i entirely forgot about it. Watching this synopsis instantly reminded me of how it ended and just how eerie this movie is.
I dont remember how exactly I heard about this movie, but I remember being on a call with a friend at one point while I was watching it and her asking "why does it sound like a school shooting is happening in the background?" Possibly the most accurate movie about Columbine that doesnt even label itself as a movie about Columbine.
i watched this movie when it was on netflix back in like... god, 2013? earlier? it was almost life changing in the sense that it just stays with you. it almost has the same effect as the blair witch project.
I just watched "Elephant" after seeing this video a few times. "Zero Day" completely smoked it. It says a lot when a movie made on a shoestring budget does a far more effective job of conveying what they wanted to get across than something with an immensely larger budget. "Zero Day" interesting. "Elephant" is extremely boring. Even the final sequence pales in comparison.
Not sure if you didn’t show it bc UA-cam cracks down on certain things but I watched this movie back in 2018 I think,it was posted on UA-cam fully. They actually have a scene with Andre and Cal making things for the attack in detail. When I go back to look for the movie it’s usually cut out in some uploads. Understandable though
He didn’t go over it but theres an incredibly disturbing scene where they are shown making pipebombs and mention “we’re not testing them beforehand so if you wanna know how they work, ask a survivor.”
Christ, this actually made me nauseous, excellent work man, don’t know how you managed to sit through this. I love films but idk if I can sit through this, “Come and See” was bad enough but this movie just seems way way too real.
I saw this in...2011 maybe? It's definitely a really well-done film. It's interesting to compare to Elephant, as well, but Elephant did stick pretty closely as well to what was believed to be true at the time. Zero Day is, however, more accurate, more realistic and overall more disturbing. I was 16 when the Columbine incident occurred. In those days, school shootings were something we were all aware of, but it was still shocking. It's horrifying how now they're sad, but not at all surprising, events.
Saw the real people that did this in their video they said that they purposely stated that there was nobody else involved in this like in pacifically. Is that what their statement was saying? It's pretty weird the specifically trying to point out that no one tried to coerce into doing so.
Another movie for people who want something thats not over dramatized and feels more natural like this is the movie "and then i go" I know ive commented before but i came back around to watch this again lol
I had the pleasure of watching this when it released, I cant remember how I got it but it was a pirated version from Indonesia. I thought it was real till I seen the extras.

This was such a great project, raw and gritty and that dark underlying narrative ever present. Very well documented too, well done.🙌
I remember seeing this movie about 12 yrs ago when I was 15 late at night. I remember not being able to sleep n I ran into it unintentionally and watched it while playing nba 2k on xbox😬 (my dumb young ass at the time dead ass thought it was real and these dudes was documenting this shit cuz it felt real even the scenes in the end and I found out it was a movie a few yrs later when I tried looking it up again)crazy how I remember it n what I was doing but it was one of those movies u won’t forget cuz it was creepy asf to me seeing the 2 boys spiral downward till the events at the end
I was young too and only and only saw the CCTV shooting part and thought I just watched a real school shooting
I love this movie so much, it only gets better the more you watch it.
There's actually an 8 part Columbine Iceberg that talked about what you were talking about when you mentioned how people believe Dylan was influenced by Eric to commit the shooting.
The acting is disturbing as well. The scenes when they attack the school are terrifying because of how realistic it is.
Remember watching this a long time ago around when it first came out. At first I thought it was real footage but after I found out it was a project, wish it could’ve had a wider release
I had completely forgotten about this movie. Might need to dust up old copy of dvd and watch it again if I can find it.
my main issue with elephant was that it felt to "sterile". void of emotion. which is like fine for the first half of the movie, which just protrays like "a normal day at school" which can be quite sterile and emotionless. but the second half it is still void of many emotionions IMHO.
like the killers expressing very little emotions while carrying out what they did. which is the opposite of what witnesses report of the real life equivalents. they made it look more like they are robots instead of people who let their dark thoughts and emotions overcome them
They used the actors real names in The Blair Witch Project, too. Great video as always,my friend!
Thank you very much!
A testament to mental illness in America, the fact that this movie could be made so realistically..
it's interesting that they gave Calvin a Marilyn Manson shirt, considering he was the number 1 scapegoat for columbine at the time
but it goes against reality as eric and dylan were not fans
I’m glad to see someone talking about this movie. I would like to see you do a vid comparing this and Gus Van Sant’s Elephant
You should totally watch "Duck!" It's apparently the first school shooting movie.
Duck is incredible
@@xuimello3877 hell yes🪦
Yep, it released only a couple months after columbine happend
if you were born the 90s you have heard of this then
Zero day feels raw, and unfiltered. Elephant feels like it's too clean in my opinion.
its too movie like which makes it harder to immerse yourself in
there is another movie I think few people have seen based on a true crime, it contains one of the worst and most haunting scenes I have ever seen and I have seen alot. It is called playground or Plac zabaw untranslated. I would like if you made a video on it.
I found this movie on UA-cam in 2014. I’m so happy its now getting the attention it deserves
I remember watching this about 10 years ago when i was just a young teen and it disturbed me, but overtime it faded from my memory and i entirely forgot about it. Watching this synopsis instantly reminded me of how it ended and just how eerie this movie is.
Thanks for another upload bro youtube doesn't even notify me
Yeah I’ve heard that a good bit recently, I think you have to switch notifications to all, if that doesn’t work I’m not too sure
ive seen the film a while ago, it was actually really interesting as it feels and looks so real
I wouldn't say it's scary but just unsettling
I dont remember how exactly I heard about this movie, but I remember being on a call with a friend at one point while I was watching it and her asking "why does it sound like a school shooting is happening in the background?" Possibly the most accurate movie about Columbine that doesnt even label itself as a movie about Columbine.
Ive seen this movie a few times. Its the most realistic movie I've ever seen.
I remember watching this a lot when it first came out. It was done so well, and after every viewing it gave me such a weird sad, cold mood.
I was just thinking about how someone have to do an analysis or a video related to this, one of my favorite indie movie
Andre pick up the phone Andre Andre are you there pick up the phone Andre Andre pick up the phone Andre Andre are you there pick up the phone Andre
You won't believe how many times I had to listen to that while editing this
@@deburke321so annoying but realistic and unrealistic at the same time
i watched this movie when it was on netflix back in like... god, 2013? earlier? it was almost life changing in the sense that it just stays with you. it almost has the same effect as the blair witch project.
well I have seen the movie before.... but it is definitely creepy
This movie was one of the creepiest movies Ive seen in recent years
Smart girl! She sees right through him and she's honest & open about it.
Even the final sequence pales in comparison.
i’ve seen this flim, and it’s amazing. One of my favorites but Duck the carbine high massacre is #1
i love this movie, def one of my favs. its constructed so well
Not sure if you didn’t show it bc UA-cam cracks down on certain things but I watched this movie back in 2018 I think,it was posted on UA-cam fully. They actually have a scene with Andre and Cal making things for the attack in detail. When I go back to look for the movie it’s usually cut out in some uploads. Understandable though
Oh the pipe bomb scene?
@@noteverthere yes! They show some parts of it but not all in reuploads I’ve seen
I saw this movie years ago and it still lingers in my mind.
I love your stuff man
You earned a sub👍🏻
Thank you Whitney 🙏
3:42 SPEAKS AND SOUNDS ALMOST LIKE ELLIOT RODGER
YO THIS IS SO ACCURATE 😭😭
I remember seeing this during the pandemic. I found it on the masskillers subreddit (I like true crime stuff im not a psycho i promise)
I have seen it but was in 6th class and looking back it feels like a fever dream
I remember seeing this movie and the end scenes were so realistic it was insane
Have you seen Duck! The Carbine High Massacre (1999)? That's a weird, semi-comedic take on the Columbine Massacre. Might be worth a watch.
Damn, it released only 6 months after Columbine, and got both of the directors arrested for having weapons on school grounds.
They need to give this film a Blu-ray release. Would love to own a physical copy.
love this movie, if my pfp was any indication
god i remember that one from tumblr
Elephant by Gus Van Sant is also excellent.
Were they actually on the phone with dispatch when they were counting down before shooting themselves? I’ve never heard this
Unfortunate that this is the world we live in
I actually watched this movie on youtube like 8 years ago.. kinda wild cause i was just talking about this the other day..
I smoked weed once
fire
I saw this in...2011 maybe? It's definitely a really well-done film. It's interesting to compare to Elephant, as well, but Elephant did stick pretty closely as well to what was believed to be true at the time. Zero Day is, however, more accurate, more realistic and overall more disturbing.
I was 16 when the Columbine incident occurred. In those days, school shootings were something we were all aware of, but it was still shocking. It's horrifying how now they're sad, but not at all surprising, events.
i love this movie a lot, its too realistic
Saw the real people that did this in their video they said that they purposely stated that there was nobody else involved in this like in pacifically. Is that what their statement was saying? It's pretty weird the specifically trying to point out that no one tried to coerce into doing so.
So what was the reason why they wanted to to do what they're doing or did I should say.
Another movie for people who want something thats not over dramatized and feels more natural like this is the movie "and then i go"
I know ive commented before but i came back around to watch this again lol
The most disturbing part of movie was that part which shows constant bullying in the school. Oh, wait, i'm sorry, there wasn't any. This movie sucks.
I had the pleasure of watching this when it released, I cant remember how I got it but it was a pirated version from Indonesia. I thought it was real till I seen the extras.
Littleton, Colorado is not really a small town. It's about a half hour drive from downtown Denver.
i watched this when i was like 11 on youtube, surprised how few heard about it
I watched this when I was a freshman in 2014 free on UA-cam its memorable and I like the movie
definitely in my top ten movies of all time
Was he playing a guitar in that scene or a sitar? The angle it was filmed makes it hard to tell
it's a sitar yeah
I saw this in theatres when it came out
Never saw this one. Duck is silly, but somewhat interesting. I'll have to see if I can track this one down.
I saw this film years ago. Horrifying indeed.
The main characters in gus van sant movies always always romantically involved ;)
