when a guy can tell you a joke in a guitar solo, he's an achievement in himself. I'm a big fan of Josh Smith as well. I admire everything about this guy, he's my reference for tone setup.
Josh Smith is so good that to see him take a break and just smile at what Greg is playing is priceless. Such fantastic players. The drums and keyboards are equally great. Would have liked to have been there that night. I would have been smiling through the whole thing.

I've had a private Skype lesson with Greg. He just blew my mind. The guy's so ridiculously good, he's in another galaxy as a player. And Josh keeping up with the 'Gristlemaster' himself... that's some heavy playing there, man.
This may be 4 years ago, but these guys are one hell of great guitar players. That's for sure. There's no question in my mind.I like that cross between country and rock and blues. It really sounds fantastic thanks
This is such an awesome performance on so many levels - virtuoso level playing, rhythm right in the sweet pocket, and so much fun. Besides its like a tele master class.
11AD... check out my reply to dave walls. Hopefully this will help you understand my first comment...as I said.. I stand corrected....but Koch still smoked him.... peace brother....
Just jokin man... Keep it light.... It's just geetar picking....and also my friend... you are also correct.... And for me the gunslinger thing went out many years ago...I understand... I watched Crossroads too many times...i learn something new everyday.....be safe brother...
Some awesome, unpredictable improv kicking in around 4:22. Everyone is having a good time, Josh is enjoying the gristlemaster's random cover lick diversions, ends up just letting him just run around the yard for a minute, then it settles into some more traditional, awesome call and response -- but still with some tasty outside elements tossed in. Fittingly, it winds down in true sasquatchian random fashion with some more unexpected cover licks tossed into the mix. Really entertaining and unpredictably delicious playing all around. For any working pro, I'm sure Greg is a delight to play with, but also a little bit scary - but in a totally good way! Top-notch musicianship all over that stage, btw.
Great jam, tele duelling style on a fast shuffle. Greg Koch is a great improvisator. Around the 5 min. mark we see Josh Smith a bit lost, 'what he's playin.?!'...but he finally catch up. And a small JS Bach bourée quote as outro.. Class.
This whole exchange brings me so much friggin' joy. The amount of creativity and seamless ability to quote all these other pieces is astounding. Playing through changes with a different tune/ riff on each chord is BRILLIANT. so much fun.

Fantastic. Listen to Django and Paco, two other immortals.
It would be fun if he'd play with Guthrie Govan
