A very recent beginner here, searched UA-cam for 100's of hours for crotchet 'how to's' and "Marly Bird" is the most clear, consistent and flowing instructions on the internet. Also, Marly Bird, your voice is that of music (you have no idea how your voice encourages me to follow along), I say this specifically because your voice is clear, not annoying, doesn't have lip smacking or spit noises or noises of the mouth opening, just your smooth instructions without the background noises that the mouth can make). I was getting to my wits end until I found Marly Bird!
I am so happy you found me! Thank you for the compliments. Xoxo
Just started this basket today and like many of the comments my work was wavy, within the first 4 rows! I am a tight crocheted so I started over with a size 9 hook. Much better! May I make a suggestion for those of you that are still having problems? When you start to make your hdc, pull up gently when you have the 3 strands on the hook, then yarn over and try to have the 4 strands of yarn in an even line, then pull through all 3 strands to complete the stitch. Hope this helps!
I've been look for a basket to make to keep my yarn in. All I've found have been to complicated for a newbie like myself. Until I found your channel. You have a very great way of teaching crochet. You make it easy to follow. I love your channel. Keep up the great work.
Yes and no Drastic magic circle which Is not very magical
Love this one. Great tip to split the yarn to weave it in. 👍
Best crochet tutorial I've ever seen. Everything was super easy to understand. Thank you very much!
Love your basket.
Gonna rush out to buy this chunky cake to make it!
Thank you.

Great video. Thank you.
Hi Marly. I just finished my bag. I'll post a photo for you to see. Blue & white. I love this pattern. You do such beautiful work. Merry Christmas in case I'm not online this weekend.
Thank you so much. You made it so easy to follow. Great video.
Very pretty basket Marly! I love the way the colors worked up. I love the way you undo the yarn to weave in the ends. I’ve seen you do this in other videos. It’s a great tip! I wish I had some of this yarn. All I have in bulky are the solids I think. Will have to check. I can sure use more baskets! Thanks for another great tutorial!
Thank you so much!
😊
So enjoyed making this - I made 4
Marly, fabulous tutorial! Thank you so much!

Wow thanks i made one came out really nice and cool . Used melissa zepelin mixed it up another plain colour .
I’m looking forward I’m new at this
Super cute! How would I increase the bottom to make a bigger basket?
Marly that basket 🧺 is beautiful 😍
Awesome tutorial! Do you think I could make this by holding two strands of size 5 bulky yarn?
I’m sure it would work!
Hi Marly! Thanks for your tutorial…I love this basket, and was wandering if there is a way to increase the size?
Yes. Keep increasing the base before you start making the sides.
Loved it. Thank you. You are awesome
I will make this
Marly you make it look easy
Ordered my yarn yesterday! Cannot wait to start this.
Hi Marly, I would like to make this basket but with a bigger bottom. I don’t really understand how the pattern would work. How many increases should I have if I were to make a 7th row or beyond?
I wondered the same thing
Is an increase just 2 half double crochets? and the other ones just go up with each round?
Thank you Marly You are a great teacher.
Is there any possibility of teaching us how to knit a lace sweater with sleeves preferably raglan. Also would you show us how to fix any mistakes we make.
I am disabled and it would be great if you would teach us.😊
Going to make this today cant wait 🤗
thanks so much for this!
Wondering how many increases to include for a bigger bottom? Thinking at least 4 more rows? After the dc twice and then 9 single dc- what would the pattern look like after? Much thanks and I am enjoying this basket pattern.
I just continued with 10,11,12 hdc
❤i love it❤I'm gland you done this 😂❤
Hey marly nice tutorial keep going... can i make this basket with t -shirt pls?
I have followed this pattern through row 5 three times and each time it comes out very wavy. It looks about like a pringles potato chip! I think my stitch count is spot on, but maybe I am not counting the stitches correctly?? Could you address this problem? (I am using the Bernat Pop Bulky yarn and a size 8 crochet hook). I really want to get this right as I am making it for my grand daughter and also bought enough yarn for 2 more baskets. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated . Thank you, Liz B
Why oh why can't I do a beginning circle i just can't do it .... i really wanna do this basket so bad coz the rest is nice and easy but i just can't crochet in the round Any advice or vids please xxx love from Galway Ireland
Your basket 🧺was beautiful 😍 how long does it take to make one?
Thank you ❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏
I had messed up the first time do I had to frog it and started over again I got it right on second try 😀yay me
Marly I tried the basket. The first time It developed a distinctive curve inward so I assumed I was crocheting too tightly. Tried again and it was better but felt a little floppy. Is the one you made soft or stiff? Just trying to access how I did. Although I learned to crochet a gazillion years ago, I consider myself a newbie. Thanks!
Mine is the same way.
Mine was tight where each new row starts and because of that it was wonky.
Hi Marly from Australia. Can you make this with Premier Sweet Rolls or Caron Cakes or any #4 weight yarn, if so what hook would you recommend & how many balls/cakes please? This is a lovely pattern., can't wait to try it!
You would need to double up the yarn if you use those yarns. This yarn is REALLY BULKY
@@MarlyBird thankyou so much for your help xx
I’ve been making baskets similar to this for a couple years. For the first one I used three strands of worsted weight (#4) yarn. After that I’ve played with other combinations of different weights. They make lovely gifts.
I am starting round 6. Should there be some curling at this point?
I don't understand round 6 either, 9 in same stitch then 1???
I saved this to my pocket video keeper so I can make for my new house. What state did you move to?
Indiana.
I'm confused at row 4 on the increase. So... two hdc then one, then two? What is time five? Three hdc then one then three? Is that what you mean? Is the crochet supposed to kinda curl up? I'm trying to keep it flat
Can you still use your bottom if it's wavy? I know it comes from stitching too tight at some point, but is it still usable if it has a little wave or ripple in it?
Im dealing with same issue!
@@AR-mu4zq I had the same problem, the directions don't match up with the project. I got a wavy bottom and it was so big. Frogging the whole thing, going to another video.
Would size bulky 5 work ?
My bottom keeps being wavy!!!! I used the same yarn; used an 8mm hook, it was super wavy. Frogged it and used a 7mm hook, not as wavy, but still wavy/buckling. What am I doing wrong? Should I try a 9mm hook?
Could your stitches be too tight or too loose?
Im having same issue
Have you made an oval basket with this same directions
i thought this video was really good! but after the third row i started to mess up because it wasn’t fully explained visually! otherwise i thought this video was really helpful :)!!
I agree i was very disappointing
For some reason, unfortunately link to download the pattern is not working anymore...:( Any chance you could check, please? Thank you!
The base is getting a little warped, is that normal?
Ok I don’t get why I’m ch 1 every round. Doesn’t that increase your number of sc each round??
If I remember correctly, you are working joined rounds for this project. That is why you have to do a ch 1 after the join. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
What size ply
🙌👍👍👍
Would have liked to have seen you make the bottom that you showed at 7:00 in full because 'you'll have x hdc, and then x hdc' doesn't mean anything to me. I need to see it being done.
Hi there! If you continue to follow the pattern as written you will get the correct stitch count.
💜💜
I cannot seem to locate the link you mentioned for the bag and hooks. Thank you.
What size of hook please
My bottom is wavy. Does that mean I am crocheting too tight or loose?
Tight.
Darn it!
Can I make it taller?
Work more rounds before starting the handles.
Why is the bottom of my basket not flat? It curls up and is wavy. know I counted correctly on each layer. Looking at the comments, I see many others are having this issue but no one's comments are being replied to or helped. What a shame. Some fallow up on this beginner tutorial would be appreciated.

Had the same thing , figured it out later , 2 single crochet in one stitch is constant in even round , only thing is we have to increase the one , for instance 2,1,2,1 for next round 2,1,1,2,1,1 and another round 2,1,1,1,2,1,1,1 if you follow this you won't see the curls it will be round and flat
My name is marleigh
Too fast!
Thank you ❤❤❤
You are so welcome
