The stones and the steel balls a bit undersized so they are a little more unpredictable to aim sadly. But seriously. Shoot low. You’ll never know what hit them!

I'm pretty sure that "dragging the vest clean through the target's torso" doesn't really count as "stopping" the cannonball, even if the vest itself wasn't actually punctured.
when testing body armor, it's common to put a mass of clay behind the armor to measure the maximum amount of back face deformation. As you said, the force of the impact here would surely kill the poor victim. Clay would show how far the armor gets pushed into and through the wearer.
Hey Jonathan. A couple of ideas for you... Chain shot, spider shot and bar shot fired at a mock up canvas and rope rigging on a ship, see if you can cut down a mast. Mount the barrel on a naval gun carriage to see the difference between that and your carriage. Try to sink a small boat on a lake. Try bouncing a cannon ball on the surface of the water. Apparently it makes it hit harder. Hioe these ideas help!
from the sponsored segment with the lifting table: "I could even put the cannon on it". Hmm, someone could make a "disappearing carriage" style mount to fire your cannon safely from inside a fortified position
Oh I like the way you think... That honestly sounds like something they should have had... Lower the guns out of danger while reloading and they pull it back up when in use. You could even hide them to look unarmed if needed.
@@TheCannoneer They did have those! Mostly for naval defense batteries, they were counterweighted and eventually hydraulically damped mounts that allowed the gun to be loaded in cover, then raised to fire with only a brief moment of vulnerability while the crew layed the gun. The recoil would swing the gun back down into cover.
*FUN FACT: A cannon loaded with sharpened rebar will go right through a ballistic shield, and multiple armored agents stacked behind it...causing extensive hydrostatic wounding to flesh from the rebar ribs.* Testing has shown that common hallway 2x4 & gypsum board is sufficient to ricochet rebar back towards the center of the hallway. Dry rice makes for an effective "sabot" which guides the rebar straight down the cannon.
I wear level 4 plates daily for work, and I am very confident that the cannonball wouldn't pierce the armor itself. However, my ribs would probably be shattered beyond repair. So either way, definitely effective against personnel armor lol
Mine shoots 8lb bowling balls as its ammo but I think it is technically a mortar due to barrel length. I know it can move an f150 about 4 feet when it smacks it with a ball, also it has enough recoil to separate the bed from a newer f150 if your a dummy and try to shoot it out of the truck..... My insurance does not pay for that apparently which is strange because they covered the gold wing we launched via trebuchet.
Pre-shot prediction: cannon doesn’t penetrate given the size of the round; however, given that the M in F=MV is mass, the target is realistically just as dead.
There is a famous curass worn by a French Cuirassier at Waterloo that got hit by probably a 9pdr, went straight through. The cuirass was not unlike what the dummy looked like on the 2nd lead shot
From what I remember from taking CPR classes, those CPR dummies were pretty solid and heavy. I've seen old units on government auctions. But they were only upper torsos so you can use the flexidesk to put it at the right height.
I’ll try that! I just recently got some true casting sand instead of the magic sand I was using so more details should be possible. I did it with the old sand and it wasn’t very pretty.
Here's an idea. Take about 4 meters long rebar (About 13 feet), and cut it down to 50cm (~20 inch) segments and some to 25cm (~10 inch) segments, stuff it inside the cannon to the max, with a metal backplate so as to not have the force of the explosion go around the rebar pieces, and check just how thick of a ballistic shield one would require to stop that.
I think it would be interesting to see the difference between a lead ball, a steel ball, and a tungsten ball or otherwise. seeing how hardness vs density changes the damage is always something I've wondered.

I friend of mine was a civilian piloting helicopters for an oil company, he was extremly well paid since terrorist groups were known to operate close to some of the fieles, he was given state of the art heavy body armor but was clearly warned that it would stop rifle fire and probably even .50 machine gun rounds at long range but that the impact most probably would break his back anyways, so, dont be hit by anything heavier than rifle fire, not sure that I would had taken that job
@@TheCannoneer I'm fairly certain that if a ballistic gel dummy was wearing that, it would have a swabbed clean wound canal (not channel) and it would have ripped its head off as it fed the vest thru the canal. I wish I’d have thought of that….😂🤣
Catching the projectiles impressive, maybe the mannequin having little mass to impede the force helped it.
I’m interested to see a comparison of stone, lead, and iron projectiles against a steel plate. If safety permits
I’m also curious about a comparison between 0° armor and sloped armor. Like 60°
I can do both! I plan on making an iron side replica wall and that will be a perfect one for it!
@@TheCannoneer can’t wait to see it
can you do a video of how many water jugs it takes to catch lead cannonball?
No but we will! You’re the second person to ask today and my dad’s been wanting to try it for a little bit too.
You may not be able to shoot a ball through the vest with a cannon, but don't worry, you can always just shoot the vest through the man 😆
You’ve had an organ transplant!
Could you try to make rpg style spring-loaded fins for the 38mm 3dprint shells!? That would be awesome, also I blame you that I'm up at 5 in the morning before work looking at cool videos keep it up man!
I’ll see what I can find and thanks! Hopefully work isn’t too bad for you but I do appreciate you watching!
@@TheCannoneer Dude you are awesome! Please don't lose that early UA-cam feel to the channel and keep goin strong!!
Boom boom fire, big desire.
😂🤣💣
I friend of mine was a civilian piloting helicopters for an oil company, he was extremly well paid since terrorist groups were known to operate close to some of the fieles, he was given state of the art heavy body armor but was clearly warned that it would stop rifle fire and probably even .50 machine gun rounds at long range but that the impact most probably would break his back anyways, so, dont be hit by anything heavier than rifle fire, not sure that I would had taken that job
Yeah I don’t think I’d want that job either lol. I quite like my insides not to be liquid and my backbone intact.
These cannons are quite good at undressing someone really fast ngl.
That first shot did put a significant dent in the dummy's chest though! :)
Oh yeah he felt that. You could feel it in the vest too.
That’s awesome
Thanks!
lovely cats!
Haha. Thanks! They think so too!
I foresee many more mannequins in the future
🔮
Where did you get that yugo helmet.
Oh man… I think it was Coleman’s military online.
What happened to the red dot sight?
It wasn’t on there yet, and we haven’t sighted it in just yet, but we will be taking it off in between the shots so it won’t break!
You should get with Kentucky Ballistics.
I don’t think he’s too far away but that’s a big state lol. Only one above me.
He was 'mistified'!!
😂🤣
@@TheCannoneer I'm fairly certain that if a ballistic gel dummy was wearing that, it would have a swabbed clean wound canal (not channel) and it would have ripped its head off as it fed the vest thru the canal. Kevlar is great at stopping such things, but not rigid enough to stop it from passing thru with the projectile!
I’m going to end up getting a torso here soon since the channels getting a bit bigger so we can find out for sure! I’ve got another vest too. That’s going to be a fun one!
Awesome!
Username checks out 😂🤣
Right. I have never seen this chanel before. What is that gun? Is it a 1 pound canon? 3 pound?
It’s a 1.5” bore which is a little under a pound. These were the smallest technically still classified as a cannon used up until the civil war period and they were almost exclusively anti personnel. Thanks for tuning in!
@5:31 I see this was pre red dot sight.....
Indeed! That’s part of the reason we got one on it too. That wasn’t the first time we’ve done that…
