u should try print some diabolo shaped rounds *basically enlarged air pallets ;p then shoot those and see how they behave, if they do well make a negative 2 part mold to cast some lead ;p

Yes and no. It’s hard to get the amount right and the pressure is very hard to achieve to make it ignite properly. Too much or too little is a recipe for some sort of problem and black powder is much “safer” in that aspect. Good question!
I was also thinking of compacted dirt and gravel, to represent an older style of wall construction. Kind of need a harder rock to test then, like granite or bluestone. Lots of possibilities 🙂 Keep up the good work!
Oh me too! Maybe one of these days but as you said it’s risky. They had special cannons just for that and it wasn’t a common practice for too long apparently.

@@TheCannoneer however I do have a slight problem. It seems the shell casing through the nail keeps getting stuck in the wood and it should be the nail goes through the shell casing. Then you reuse it to keep the nail in place and I’m having problems soldering it.

@@TheCannoneer you could grind little ridges into the rod itself and have similar ridges on the inside of the pettles that fit in the ones on the rod, the barrel should keep them together so long as the ridges hold as the round's flying out

my brother inlaw had a small canon we made booms we shot.took the primer out a 20 gauge shell ane shoved the 20 gauge shell in a 12 gaugefilled with black powder and put in a short fuse sealed around the fuse and let it dry.put in barrel with powder fuse side inside fired canon bomb went off in the air.
May I suggest not walking with the camera (or walking more slowly and purposefully) until a stabilization device can be obtained to keep the shot steady. Slower movements when turning the camera too. Getting a bit motion sick from the shaky cam.
@TheCannoneer also, a static point so that you can have a set place for the camera that puts you in the frame talking to the camera when inspecting the carnage.
I'm curious to know at what % infill was the 3d printed round? I'm wondering if a lower percentage infill, would make a stronger punch? Also, have you just been shooting PLA in your 3d printed rounds? I'd like to see what ABS or PETG would do to a cinder block wall.
Soo theres metal 3d printers...not quite as heavy as lead or actual tank rounds...but should be an interesting shot if you can find a metal printer, especially with the tank round.

Please inspect your bore after firing that steel ball, and if it’s hardened steel like from a ball bearing please consider making some sort of shot cup and using a slightly smaller ball diameter… in other words loading it sort of like a slug in a shotgun. I’d hate for it to damage the bore in such a way something trys to stick going down the bore…. That could be bad.

Wow that lead is so much more effective than the rock one, i do think the rock would have smacked straight through too had it been a centre shot and not an edge shot where its much thicker and has a junction running right through, very satisfying either way 😮😊
We usually shoot about 400grains or a bit less than an oz per shot. It’s proofed up to 1200g but we don’t use that very often if ever but we will shoot 800 for distance shots. As for the entire video it will maybe be 5-6 oz if we hit every shot and don’t need a redo!
About 30 years ago in the state of Connecticut I found two Stone balls in the river where I was fishing I believe there are cannonballs. when I brought them to work and measured them they were exactly within .005 of an inch rounds at 1.060 diameter. .. I could not find anyone that can verify that these were indeed cannonballs but I believed that they are.

(Hopefully) Constructive criticism. Your handheld camera shots are bad. If you can lower the shutter speed, do that. it will remove the motion blur when you're carrying it. If not, and it's just a phone or somthing, buy the Cannon M50. Great little vlogging camera, and if you get the Mark 1, (Discontinued, only 2nd hand) it's identical to the mark 2, except it doesn't have streaming abilities. It's 500$. It's a 500$ camera that acts like a 1200$ camera. Cannon M50 Mk2 is like 900$, so get a 2nd hand Mk1.
You are in desperate need of a bore laser site device. 3d print something that will fit in the canon barrel with a concentric small bore and use a gun bore laser site.

Definitely a big difference on the transfer of energy between steel and lead. The steel was more like armor piercing, the lead creates more shrapnel.

It’s 100%. I just upgraded to a bamboo lab yesterday (it’s great) so I can print the other filaments and everything now!
Do a 3d printed spitzer style bullet with a 3/8 bolt in the middle as a penetrating core 😀

It gets a good checking over after every cleaning with the flashlight too however I will probably print a cup.

Who knows! I know rocks and clay can sometimes be perfectly round when they are in the water but there’s a decent chance!
Is smokeless powder really smokeless?
Yep!!! That’s what modern guns use and there’s no smoke whatsoever. Sadly we can’t use it without a lot of safety trial and error with the cannon.
Most block walls are grouted solid with concrete with number four rebar.
True! We used concrete glue for this one but I’ll fill the other one with sand!
