- 1.5 million people have packed out Brazil's Copacabana Beach to watch Madonna. The Queen of Pop held a free concert to close out her 'Celebration' tour.

There is actually a very well thought system put in place for new year. Everyone takes the subway, no cars or buses are allowed to get in or out of Copacabana. And it was well worth it. Amazing show!

Tão bom que moro uns 20 minutos do local do show e demorei 3 horas pra chegar em casa. Fila do metrô estava kilometrica, andamos até Botafogo pra pegar ônibus 😅

@@ganesago There is some time expected to move a crowd that large, but considering everything I had an amazing time and no problem going to an afterparty. Considering social issues there was basically very few incidents.

Just a correction: Rod Stewart was at Copacabana beach on New Year's, so 3.4 million weren't there to see him, but to see the fireworks show. The right concert to compare would be Rolling Stones that performed in 2006 at Copacabana beach and took 1.4 million people to there.

Most fans stayed at the gig on Copacabana Beach. You can simply enjoy the beach the day after and go home whenever you want. That's what Brazilians do when celebrating New Year's: they stay at the beach, having fun, drinks, and enjoying themselves until morning. Some even stay longer. You can just call an uber and go home after. there are millions of ubers and taxis.

65 😮 1.6 million people. I'm a casual fan, my mom listened to some of her songs when I was a kid. But you still can't help but know her hits lol even later. Music was my jam, so was Don't Tell Me & The Power of Goodbye. Those were my era lol Secret is probably my favorite song though.

Copacabana is pretty much the only place where it is even possible to have 1,5million people for a concert. It is a very long and wide beach. Plus it is the pace where everybody goes in RIO. Stones did this in 2006. same amount of people. Both artist are truly world wide super stars.
Many people didn't go because they knew that would be impossible to see the stage unless you got there long before the show was supposed to begin
