ZEEKR already has the following in China (different global markets get certain cars) Zeekr 001 (2021-present), full-size shooting brake. Zeekr 007 (2023-present), mid-size sedan. Zeekr 009 (2023-present), full-size MPV. Zeekr X (2023-present), subcompact SUV. Zeekr 7X (2024-present), mid-size SUV. Zeekr Mix (2024-present), compact MPV.

I tend to agree but quite like them both. Zeekr is a noticeably smaller car than Xpeng. Interior feels equally roomy, but load space is smaller. 320mm shorter.

I look forward to doing a real-world range test but based on their own numbers for efficiency and battery size, the 540km claim doesn't add up for the (more efficient) RWD car. I'd hazard a guess at low to mid 400s in real-world driving with mix of urban and freeway. Will let everyone know!

Having said that, I do enjoy the coffee and toastie stops and try not to rush on those interstate trips. The fact is almost very new car these days is pretty damn good, the trick is how they are to live with, how well built they are and and hoe reliable they are. For the sake of your viewers, they really need to lend you a car for a long term test of at least six months, ideally twelve so you can better comment on the car to live with. Not from any selfish reason of a free car of course, purely for our benefit, I understand the sacrifice entailed with being lent a new brand new car on your part for purely our benefit 😃😄😅
You're right but those helpful long-term reviews probably come from long-term owners. We're unlikely to be in that position. I think a key unknown is not so much servicing or reliability, it's (a) availability and delays in getting panels and parts after a crash and (b) the lack of in-depth knowledge at the appointed local workshop chains (such as Ultratune, myCar, etc) with whom the importer/distributor builds relationships. Regular servicing will be easy and infrequent, but for hard-to-diagnose faults I think it's probably a bit of an unknown. Some brands like MG are well established now with well-trained local techs, but the new brands' experts could be thin on the ground in this country. It's a gamble I'd be prepared to take though for some of them.
Test drove recently. Consider noise levels and if interior trim matches the price. RWD is under spec. Price for Lux package for RWD designed to upsell into $72k AWD. Great street appeal. Auto park flaky. Trunk size is rather small. In China, the larger 7X is just 5-10% more expensive, food for thought and investigation!

However, what concerns me is: You still can't utilise the Tesla Supercharger network with non-Tesla cars (on the whole); If you're not in Sydney or Melbourne, where can you test drive?; and Given the above, where do you go to get them repaired or serviced (such as that is)? It's these three things that keep me thinking I'll stay with Tesla, despite Musk being Musk and him forcing the dodgy Tesla Vision onto owners (bring back ultra-sonics!).

Now China is such a powerhouse of (1) renewable power (2) batteries and (3) EVs, it's become economic to push hard into non-Chinese markets. Particularly as Europe and USA have realised how hard it is to compete with them, and introduced tariffs/bans, resulting in reduced demand in those areas. With a glut of production capacity, sensible for them to send their products here. Tariffs make no sense in Australia as we have no local manufacturing industry to protect. But the government still has the Luxury Car Tax to protect ... um.. nothing. Ten years ago we recognised we were a dumping ground for China's and the sub-continent's sub-standard stuff but that's all changed. China is determined to compete on quality with the big brands not just price. But price too. They started with ICE but now realise that's going nowhere.
All of these Chinese vehicles look better than Tesla and legacy OEM rivals. Cooler design, better materials and build quality, and more features. Tesla is still ahead on software/tech, but in all other respects these Chinese EVs are more than worthy competitors. I recently bought an Xpeng G9 and don’t want to drive my legacy luxury cars anymore.

Yes that's the big unknown. All very well having 7 or 10 year warranties but question mark over the availability of not just consumable parts like brakes and suspension but also panels, headlights, trim, etc. in the event of accident damage. Something we can't answer in reviewing these cars.
Why is it a pre production car you are driving when the car has been sold for a while in other countries already? I think it looks really nice, we have good prices on private leasing here in Sweden and it's 20cm longer than the ex30.
We often get cars later here than in other markets. Sometimes the certification process for Australian Design Rules requires specific mods. Sometimes suspension tuning for our roads. But sometimes manufacturers regard us as a small market or unfavourable for various reasons - size, politics, support, RHD not LHD, etc. (e.g. VW chose not to sell here for many years - the ID.3 and ID.4 are only just about to be released)
Also another good thing getting tha car later, the software nowadays is almost never ready it seems when the car is released. The ex30 is a mess and no one seems to be talking about it, got a bit better though but the car has been out for a year already.. the X about the same from what i have read.

From what I understand, Zeekr are in the process of building relationships with existing dealer networks, but haven't disclosed who just yet. They have no plans to use a direct to consumer model. All I can suggest is 'watch this space' and hope for an announcement shortly.

No data from the car is allowed to be uploaded to the server, except for information related to safe driving speed. The voice and video data in the car is too huge. If you want to transmit and process this data, you need a lot of computing power and bandwidth. For any company, it is unaffordable. Therefore, no car company will monitor users. It is not worth it.

Let’s start with the technical and nefarious ones… (btw my background is IT and I’ve been employed for IT security in the past. These days one of my hats is working for a large AI and automation company).. - audio files compressed are very small and all of the in car entertainment is downloaded over LTE in my 10 year old Tesla, there is no AM or FM in the car. This also worked over 3G when the car was new. - Since new my car was running a camera and capturing data from outside the car and uploading it. This is used to train the autopilot software. The car would pick edge cases where something unusual happened and upload video and telemetry data, generally once you parked. - Who says that uploading data “isn’t allowed”, and who polices that? A bunch of smart TVs were found to be uploading all kinds of audio from people’s lounge rooms. - Local processing of audio is trivial these days, eg your smartphone has been able to do voice to text locally for a long time. Compared to other functions it’s nothing. - There is a huge incentive for companies to do this. The data would be valuable for marketing and could be on sold or repurposed. - There is an even larger incentive for a hostile foreign government with a history of supporting industrial espionage and human rights suppression to do this, especially for targeted individuals. Not only would they know where the target went, but also what they said in the car and probably who they called as well as the phone conversation. Useful information. Trivial as well for local processing to self identify interesting info. - Local self classification of information to be uploaded is a trivial exercise. But now for one of the major reasons that I don’t want it listening. False triggering. The number of times I’ve been with people and their phone, car or google helper has butted into a conversation is surprising. The way that this tech works is that it must be listening for the trigger phrase constantly, but it doesn’t always get it right. I don’t think that it’s necessary and prefer to have a simple button on the steering wheel to tell the car to start listening for instructions.
Yes. Model Y is 4.7 metres long, this is 4.4. Also wheelbase 140mm longer, quite a lot more storage space, but similar weight. This is a significantly smaller vehicle than Model Y.

Thanks for the hint but yeah nah. Passenger cars sold in China in 2023 : 26 million + 4 million commercials. BYD alone sold 3 million passenger cars in China last year. Tesla sold just 600k and their market share continues to drop. Even Geely sold 700k - more than Tesla in Chinese market alone. Speak to any luxury car dealer and they'll tell you (when you try to get a trade in) that cars lose 20% as soon as they leave the showroom and 50% of their value in 3 years. Doesn't matter whether they're petrol or electric. There are exceptions, but that's the general rule.
Teslas will have full autonomy next year in China, right now FSD is limited to America. Maybe they know that, but if they don't they will soon and Tesla will explode in the market.

Despite making fantastic cars it seems some people are confused as to why the champion of renewable energy and electric cars who for years said "the dumbest thing we ever did was dig stuff out of the ground and burn it" has aligned himself so strongly with the gentleman who says climate change is a hoax, EVs should be banned, renewables like "windmills" are garbage, and we have a country full of liquid gold to dig up. Some people find this just a little confusing and wonder what he hopes to achieve, and what his motivation is. If he hopes to curry favour, gain trust and sway opinion, he's way too smart to know that'll happen.

I Can't believe sheep really believe that rubbish. A Poll came out recently showing only 39% of people trust the media. Not many other options. You could buy a VW group product, one of the very few not made in China. Even many of the Japanese and Korean cars are now also made in China. Better get used to it. Unless you're American. Then you have good ole' US options. But I remember my dad saying the same thing after the war.. he'd never buy a German or Japanese car. Before he bought a Toyota, then a BMW.

In China new: 38k AUD. 1 year old used: 25.5k AUD. Depreciation tells you everything you need to know:)

A few weeks ago saw one with Vic number place in Sydney, followed it a bit, turned on to M5, guess went back to Melbourne. Stunning good looking car.

From what I understand, Zeekr are in the process of building relationships with existing dealer networks, but haven't disclosed who just yet. They have no plans to use a direct to consumer model. All I can suggest is 'watch this space' and hope for an announcement shortly.

I’d want to turn OFF the “Hey ZEEKR” function and have voice control only active when you press a button on the steering wheel.
You can change the wake up greeting. Shouldn't be hard to come up with something funny and a bit rude.
@@inCARnationAustralia I don’t want the car listening the whole time. I turn off things like “Hey Siri” etc from all devices and am not interested in having a device constantly listening to my conversations. My dashcam has the microphone disabled.

I get it that people don't want their Chinese made car with 12 cameras parked in a high national security carpark reading everyone's number plates. But I wonder - does it actually stop it listening if you turn off the function? I saw it had a toggle switch but I wonder if it actually does block its ears. Same with mobile phones - we have the world's largest marketing company in our pocket or beside our bed, and we've all had that creepy experience of ads mysteriously appearing for some product or service shortly after casual chat about it/that. Hmmm.
No data from the car is allowed to be uploaded to the server, except for information related to safe driving speed. The voice and video data in the car is too huge. If you want to transmit and process this data, you need a lot of computing power and bandwidth. For any company, it is unaffordable. Therefore, no car company will monitor users. It is not worth it.

Let’s start with the technical and nefarious ones… (btw my background is IT and I’ve been employed for IT security in the past. These days one of my hats is working for a large AI and automation company)..
- audio files compressed are very small and all of the in car entertainment is downloaded over LTE in my 10 year old Tesla, there is no AM or FM in the car. This also worked over 3G when the car was new.
- Since new my car was running a camera and capturing data from outside the car and uploading it. This is used to train the autopilot software. The car would pick edge cases where something unusual happened and upload video and telemetry data, generally once you parked.
- Who says that uploading data “isn’t allowed”, and who polices that? A bunch of smart TVs were found to be uploading all kinds of audio from people’s lounge rooms.
- Local processing of audio is trivial these days, eg your smartphone has been able to do voice to text locally for a long time. Compared to other functions it’s nothing.
- There is a huge incentive for companies to do this. The data would be valuable for marketing and could be on sold or repurposed.
- There is an even larger incentive for a hostile foreign government with a history of supporting industrial espionage and human rights suppression to do this, especially for targeted individuals. Not only would they know where the target went, but also what they said in the car and probably who they called as well as the phone conversation. Useful information. Trivial as well for local processing to self identify interesting info.
- Local self classification of information to be uploaded is a trivial exercise.
But now for one of the major reasons that I don’t want it listening. False triggering. The number of times I’ve been with people and their phone, car or google helper has butted into a conversation is surprising. The way that this tech works is that it must be listening for the trigger phrase constantly, but it doesn’t always get it right. I don’t think that it’s necessary and prefer to have a simple button on the steering wheel to tell the car to start listening for instructions.

Yes. Model Y is 4.7 metres long, this is 4.4. Also wheelbase 140mm longer, quite a lot more storage space, but similar weight. This is a significantly smaller vehicle than Model Y.
I'll give you a hint: In China all of these cars combined dont sell as much as Tesla Y. Why? Maybe Chinese people know something we don't?;) Not even 1 year old Zeekr X and Zeekr 007 lost 20% in value in second hand market already. Thing is Tesla is RELIABLE and wont give up on their models. While Chinese brands usually pull the plug on every model after 2-3 years, which means no support no updates no spare parts.
Thanks for the hint but yeah nah. Passenger cars sold in China in 2023 : 26 million + 4 million commercials. BYD alone sold 3 million passenger cars in China last year. Tesla sold just 600k and their market share continues to drop. Even Geely sold 700k - more than Tesla in Chinese market alone.
Speak to any luxury car dealer and they'll tell you (when you try to get a trade in) that cars lose 20% as soon as they leave the showroom and 50% of their value in 3 years. Doesn't matter whether they're petrol or electric. There are exceptions, but that's the general rule.
Teslas will have full autonomy next year in China, right now FSD is limited to America. Maybe they know that, but if they don't they will soon and Tesla will explode in the market.

Tesla FSD is level 2 same as Li auto. Nio, Xpeng are level 4 and BYD is level 3 along with Huawei Avatr. Waymo robot taxi is level 4

Despite making fantastic cars it seems some people are confused as to why the champion of renewable energy and electric cars who for years said "the dumbest thing we ever did was dig stuff out of the ground and burn it" has aligned himself so strongly with the gentleman who says climate change is a hoax, EVs should be banned, renewables like "windmills" are garbage, and we have a country full of liquid gold to dig up. Some people find this just a little confusing and wonder what he hopes to achieve, and what his motivation is. If he hopes to curry favour, gain trust and sway opinion, he's way too smart to know that'll happen.
ZEEKR X RWD is better. The AWD is too fast for its suspension.
