    My lease on a Model Y run out last June and I switched to a BYD. There is absolutely no comparison in terms of quality, handling, over all feel and value for my money. I'll be purchasing this BYD at the end of my lease.

    My neighbour bought the BYD Seal, he asked me to check it out and I was surprised how beautiful and well built it was. Very sleek and sporty. Don’t forget it’s been designed by head designer of European cars who helped to design Audi, Lamborghini and Alfa Romeo.

    Being the owner of a Model 3 and having rented a Seal if this is on the same build quality with the Seal I would take it over Model Y any day. Prices too sound high but actually cheaper than the equivalent Ys.

It was quiet, far more quiet than my first gen Model 3. Performance was really good with only complain that regen was not great. Seats were better, comfier with more support on turns. Boot was smaller though. Overall and considering the price if Seal was available when I got my 3 I would have gone for the Seal.

    The reason why the rotating screen is a thing cause in the Chinese market, a lot of the owners download apps from the browser not from BYD store apps to use. Among those apps, some only work in portrait mode. The screen detects which orientation works so it will automatically adjust to it.

Great to have you and another journalist working together and in a fun way thanks to both of you. Touchscreen like many EV's these days, luckily not all. Alot of SUV's well all ride similar to this as they aren't saloon/sedan form factor. It also has acoustic glass in some areas to help keep it quieter. Unfortunate about sharing and organisation of the event but you two did a great job with the video. :)

    You don't know who would use the LED screen in portrait because you haven't done enough test and research into it. Work a little harder then you know. If it is in landscape the cameras around the car will only show 2 sections, if it is on portrait then it will show 3 cameras section. If you park in a situation where is it too near to other structure or anything you wouldn't want to touch to be scratch or drain to be fallen into, having the 3 views are very helpful.
    Other that many reviewers complain that there is no button to control aircond and must use the screen to control it...... you can use 3 fingers to pull up or down to control temp and left - right to control fan speed.

    @electrifying #byd #BYDsealion #newEV #newcar
    The big question here, as is with all other BYDs, and for that matter most other Chinese EVs - and it's quite disappointing that this most important issue is not even marginally mentioned here - is how truthful is BYD's PROMISED range vs the ACTUAL range this and their other models will give you.
    Did you actually test the Sealion models' ranges and verify BYD's claims? Why is this not discussed AT ALL? This is BY FAR and still the most important factor in the decision making of buying an EV. I'm so adamant about this issue because it's well documented online (and I've have had plenty of my own experience) that BYD ruthlessly overstates the range of their models: often, a BYD EV gives you just 60% of the promised range stated right there on its display, even when driving extremely gently (velvet foot on the accelerator) - and if you throw in a few hearty accelarations along the way you're quickly down to 50%.
    I dub this: "BYD's fake kilometer range". What they're doing, seemingly in good tradition of the often fantasy like story-telling by generally many Chinese manyfacturers when it comes to product prospectuses in ruthless pursuit of more profit, is nothing short of shameless: in the case of the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range, for instance, they claim they give you 480 km range on a full charge, which is displayed (and sometimes even going up to 500 km!) on the screen at 100% battery charge - but what you get is actually a measly 300 km at the most. How does that conform with the BYD display? They simply base their displayed range on what I call the "BYD kilometer", which is in actually only 0.6 REAL kilometers! So after you've driven, say, 150 (real) kilometers, the BYD display has spooled down a whopping 250 (fake) kilometers! And you can imagine - aside from realizing that you're being cheated out of nearly 50% range, which must be particularly tragic if you already purchased the car (can you return an EV if it turns out the manufacturer was untruthful about its most vital features?) - this is REALLY annoying and frustrating on the road when now you always have to worry about making the next EV charging station and constantly have to convert the "BYD kilometers" into real ones, trying to align your remaining range on the BYD display (stated in "BYD kilometers") with the distance to the next charging station or any other destination pinned on Google Maps or similar, which of course is displayed in real kilometers. If you blindly trust your BYD's promised range and attempt to drive, say, an entire 450 real kilometers nonstop, as displayed on you navigator, and happen to refrain from checking your actual remaining range on the car's cluster, you WILL get stuck on the road with an empty battery!
    Why is this not called out by reviewers like you? Might it be that incentives from BYD outweigh a fair and square review..? This is counterproductive as it permits some EV manufacturers that aren't subject to EPA or WLTP certification to boldly lie about their cars' ranges unchecked for the sake of driving up sales.
    Your comments, please. Or update your reviews after driving the cars you review sufficiently long.

  • @J.siciliano_
    @J.siciliano_ Місяць тому +1

    You can change the indicator noise in the screen to normal. You can also change the tightness and sharpness of the steering from the screen. By not stating this I believe you are scaring off some potential buyers.

  • @fastingo
    @fastingo 10 днів тому

    Have you verified if the Sealion's range checks out for real?
    I appreciate your reasonably detailed review of the BYD Sealion 7 that attempts to shed a truthful and fair light at this EV model and its pros & cons.
    The big question here, however, as seems to be with all other BYDs - and it's quite disappointing that this most important issue is not even marginally mentioned by most EV reviewers - is how accurate (or truthful) really is BYD's PROMISED / ADVERTISED range vs the ACTUAL range this or any of their other models will give you in actuality.
    Have you had a chance to test the Sealion models' ranges so far and verify BYD's claims? Have you compared the actual kilometers you drove against the "spent" kilometers displayed on the range display of your car in real time? Assuming that you, too, have noticed a considerable deviation between your Sealion's range display and the kilometers that your car ultimately delivered, how do you reconcile BYD's advertised ranges with your own experience..? I really wonder why this topic isn't discussed in more depth as this is surely BY FAR still the most important factor in the decision making process of buying an EV.

    Credit for the other guy playing his part brilliantly as the embarrassed school kid still to be picked. 👍 love the air vents for the phone charger - designers catch on eventually when joe public can spot things like it in two minutes flat.
    Too BYD hire some ex Lotus engineers to fix the handling 👍

    Not sure why people think there is not enough room in this world for Tesla and BYD, every other electric car means doom and gloom for Tesla and it will be bankrupt and go out of business . I would think that legacy automakers should be more worried about BYD. But , you know, you have to put Tesla in the title for those clicks….
