- We had a blast in the mountains outside Guangzhou to try the new ZEEKR 7X - whilst it may not be the most outstanding EV against its Chinese competitors, on the global stage not much can come close.

I remember not long ago we used to pity Chinese car makers - their cars were of poor quality and the design was usually a cartoonish knockoff. And now look at this.

The big 3 CEOs are asleep at the wheel. They are being protected by the US government for the time being but I fear even the government can't save them. They will leave with their 10s of millions in compensation for completely missing the vision of the future and the big 3 will be gone.
Only way US / EU car markets are afloat is they put 100% fee on Chinese EVs ^^ . Talk about desperation.
@@MartinMartinX Without the government protection they would be gone over night. In the future the Chinese will build in Mexico and import to US - how do they fix that, so they block Mexico, so the Chinese move to somewhere in Asia. Jim, Mary, and Carlos have no vision and can't fix what's broken. There are only so many suckers for a $80K truck. As opposed to blocking the Chinese, they need to invite the Chinese to build cars in the US or create partnerships. I just don't see how the big 3 get to turn this around. US car market is far too over priced and under value. At the rate the big 3 are going I will be fixing my old car forever - I will not pay their crazy price.

What if, in response to your sanctions, China also increases the cost of components for your cars by 100%?! Haven't you tried to think about it?!
This is not Tesla model Y competition for me looks like class above, Land Rover Velar, Porsche Macan, competition 😊❤❤

Exactly...this is more of Li auto L6 competition as that car is selling very well in China...Onvo is a direct competitor to model Y. Reviewers are either asked to compare to model Y or they miss out on segments...

I think the Onvo L60 and Xpeng G6 could be the competition for the 7X with the hard plastic in it, air shockers is bit more premium. Apparently Zeeker is a bit worried about the Onvo L60, they've got a script ready to undermine it 😂 I think the Onvo L60 and Xpeng G6 do look a bit more premium than the Model Y at the moment, we'll see after the update, will they take the stalk away.

About price, Model 3 is 24.6k GBP in Chinese market and 39k GBP in the UK. :) Competition benefit consumers - send Zeekr out :)

@@stevewhitmill2037 Its more like competition in China is brutal and so its race to bottom for prices. Its not same elsewhere. Australia is probably other open market where prices are trending down due to competition and no import taxes.

Too much personal opinion, little information. Ventilated seats? Double glass? Acoustic performance? How is the sound system? Is the U.I. improved over the previously crappy Geely software? Range, charge speed, battery technology and durability? Mention your height for scale please. Otherwise well done !

The 7X’s curb weight lies in the 2298 - 2475 kg range. The gross weight reaches 2800 - 2910 kg, depending on the powertrain option.
Love your reviews, very insightful, one small detail thought the 3000kg seems to be the max loaded weight, not the kerb weight

Wow, great review! Quite objectively done and not that over-excited like many others. It’s a great EV, but having weak spots as well.
Could you mention the power in kW as well? It makes sense for electric cars as it allows people to quickly compare it to the battery ratings. The horsepower is based on a definition that involves a horse lifting a 150 kg load 30 meters high within a minute and it seems somewhat silly we still use it till this day.
Sure. I used Hp mostly as that’s what people are familiar with, but noted for the future
OP reviews car like a real estate agent sells houses. This is an EV. When do you discuss the electronics? Does the car pre-heats the battery and is there a button for it? How much does the car hold? What are the drive modes? Can it auto park? Questions an EV buyer would ask when making a buy.
Chinese like their ev to be like a driving living room😂
Sometimes we only have 1 to 2 hours with the car - and not all information is available at the time of recording. Electronics are something you can look at online - how it drives is a bit harder to experience so that's the area I focussed on.
The Chinese cram in a lot of luxury and extra features that the Germans charge outrageously extra for. They know what they’re doing.

Zeekr is coming to Brazil and I'm looking forward for a test drive on the LFP version. That would be my choice.

Do not use the Tesla trunk specs for comparison because Tesla use a different set of parameters. The capacity of model y trunk is more like 525 using the commonly used methodology.
Chinese car markers are not bogged down by DEI. Every workers has to be competent & willing!.

How 's the UI of the infotainment in these Zeekr cars I wonder? I' ve only seen it in Chinese but I assume you can set it to English as well?
How's the navigation software? Which maps does it use, does it pre-heat the battery for charging, how's the app, can you watch UA-cam/Netflix while charging, does it support CarPlay/AA, etc...
I mean the car looks great and the higher trims look amazing but I want some info on the above questions. I've also heard that lease prices in Europe are really high because of low rest-value.
UX on these chinese cars are amazing. They use the latest Qualcomm chip which is responsive. I am sure it will be in English once they launch it in Australia. It does support Car Play/Android Auto and supports all the latest tech. Way more than Tesla. Its center screen is actually Mini LED which is superior to standard LCD screen in most cars.

Damn man… you havent try the best interior. But i did. integreated screen in the front passenger seat screen command in the center rear place. etc etc etc… you tryied the cheapest one. . integrated massage front and rear… etc etc etc!

I saw one being demonstrated in a shopping centre here in Brisbane Australia only a week ago. It looks very nice in person.
As for EU prices - This costs 239k RMB, while the 001 is 269k RMB. The 001 costs 59 990€ in Germany. If this 7X is 11.15% cheaper than the 001, then that would put it at 53 301€ or 1700€ below the Model Y Dual Motor Long Range. The ID.4 may be a bigger competitor in Germany specifically, as they are quite cheap there, but nice nonetheless!
Seems like a pretty good deal to me!
Sad part is that the europe 001 is worse than the china version..

Elliot, the Zeekr X in The Netherland is priced at a starting price of €42.490. Chinese cars will be taxed in the near distance future. This 7X definitely looks very appealing, but don't expect this to sell around Model Y prices, simply because the Zeekr X is at that price level already.
Then we haven't even talked about the weight. In our country combustion engine cars are taxed on their weight. Soon EVs as well. This behemoth will cost you €213 A MONTH on tax alone.
They may cut back on the battery pack for Netherland market. 😂
Why is it so heavy?
In Europe, if Zeekr 7X price is above 40000euro then it only sit in the showroom shelves.

I mean, for years european cars in China were priced x2/x3 times the prices in europe. It's fair they do the same today.

No words on the navigation, preheating or not and the features of the UI. Missed chance.
A really nice car that I would seriously consider if Zeekr fixes a serious flaw, that most Chinese car manufacturers make when introducing a car in Europe. No 40/20/40 backseat or at least a load through hatch for our ski or fishing rods. I would never buy a car without it. Nio with it's ET5 Touring and EL6 know what Europeans want, but most Chinese manufacturers don't, and that even goes for Zeekr. They say its designed in Sweden, but not many Swedes want such a car without room for their skies, so it is definitely designed for China, not Europe.
I agree, but a lot of brands that you would expect a ski hatch from have removed them as well, like Volvo and Audi. Shame, really!
Dont forget chinese cars sold in europe often cost 50-100% more and also have poor highway assist implementation and buggy software.
I wonder if the Zeeker 7X is secretly a battery swappable EV with the 75kwh and 100kwh battery pack, having agreed to use Nios battery swap and the same size battery as Nio, could be just a coincidence.

No. People should not make the mistake that a Geely owned brand is the same as an established European brand even if they use the same platform. The amount of modifications to the platforms and engineering feel and personality into how the car drives makes them different. Lotus spent a considerable amount of time tuning that chassis and steering and throttle and such to make the car drive a particular way and the Zeekr won't drive like the Lotus.

Same based from thw Geely SEA platform. But tweek based on the brand. Same ev architecture to save cost but different mode in driving.
This car is designed in Sweden, built in China.
Hey man, I am on the verge of purchasing either ES6 or Zeekr 7X. If you have tried both, can you tell which one wins over the latter?
If you want the battery swapping which is a massively attractive proposition in China, then go for the NIO, it’s a great all rounder. Zeekr is good, but the ES6 wins for that reason alone.

That is about right with such big battery pack.
About 400 kilos more than current model Y, but it feels like u get more kilos for ur money :D
The AVATR 07 seems to be a good challenger
The front lights make the 7X look like Nigel Mansell with that famous stache.
Piano Black always seems to feature wherever fingers are most likely to visit. Absolutely BONKERS! Unless you are a fastidious owner - and how many of us fall into THAT category if we're truly being honest? - then it always looks filthy. Who wants to be continuously cleaning dirty finger marks off of the darn stuff?

@@safarilatino Very different to each other. Personally, it would be ONVO for me as it comes with battery swapping.
In this model, BYD's chassis tuning is far inferior to Geely's.
Small correction: only few people are still interested in a comparison with a 2019 Model Y. Why they should, knowing that every single spec is far ahead. 7X better compares to Avatr 07, which seems to be even further ahead.
Even current EVs a few rungs down in pricing, blew from Zeeker 7, are already very good. Far far better than a Nissan Leaf. Now I am looking at buyinh a Geely E5. 😂

I hear that BYD has an asset to debt ratio of 78%. Chinese banks have failed at this ratio.
If you are worried about Chinese car company debt, have you checked out Toyota 's debt? Toyota is the most indebted company ( not just automotive) in history 😂

From what I've hurt so far, is that this car is very noisy on bad roads and suspension is a bit harsh compared to European manufacturers. What's your thoughts on this?
We really had a chance to test on smooth mountain roads, I guess this is why. Suspension can be adjusted for EU roads though

Yes, because they’ll tax it to try & protect town manufacturers. In doing so they’ll repeat the mistakes of the 70s when they did the same to the Japanese. It didn’t work then & it won’t work now
In my view, Chinese car brand is lacking a sense of passion among Chinese automakers. Only Hongqi brand have its own vibes and make consumer feel touch it brand awareness. Other Chinese brand are just like phone companies, cheap price, a lot of function but user comfortability and experience is still must improve

Volvo think of themselves like Audi, but in the Geely stable it's Zeekr who are. Volvo are actually Skoda competitors as they are clearly cost cutting.

But I must totally disagree about this "Legacy Auto doomed" take.
Zeekr is owned by Geely, so are Lynk&Co, Polestar and Legacy - Volvo. So they have a solid economic base.
But fun fact is that Geely is depending, and trusting, in Swedish engineering.
Zeekr, Lynk&Co, Polestar and Volvo are all developed and designed in Gothenburg.
Polestar and Volvo HQ are in Gothenburg and Geely has from the start stayed away from interfering.
(When Volvo was owned by Ford, Volvo went down in everything)
Today the EV market have a set back, but the Legacy Auto brands have other options then EVs. Take Legacy - elephant Toyota, they are just watching the struggle, while going direct to solid state tech.
Imo the leading EV company today is Hyundai/KIA/Genesis. A Legacy Auto brand. They have a lineup with very different and interesting models, also at good prices. An impressive development in just a few years.

The other downside is that here in Australia, the zeekr sedans and wagons won't go on sale because they'll stick to selling SU fing Vs and nothing else.

Sitting inside the 001 and 007 its clear there is no comparison with Tesla. In the past Tesla may have sold itself as luxury through smart marketing but in comparison the Highland (and likely Juniper) doesn't come close to the Zeekrs

Tesla might be the one and only real competitor for those Chinese brands, especially in family EV market. Legacy automakers are far behind since the day model 3 is made.

Tesla Model Y segment getting crowded, even in EV world alone. I can't list all of them from my head. The recently released Onvo is as good. There are more that came out months years ago like the Xpeng G6
How come doesn't run sub 3.5 seconds 0-62 mph with the same power of the 007? I mean, the sedan does it in 2.8 seconds...

You didn't praise anything as being particularly outstanding, other than the front lights, and yet, this is the best electric SUV in the world? When we've got things like the KIA EV9? Ok that's in a totally different price bracket, but to call it 'the best', it really has to be the best.

Up to 230mm with the air suspension, it's first SUV that actually managed to conquer the sand dunes in Inner Mongolia, this thing can easily go off road, don't be fooled 🙂 I bought one a week ago, will arrive in a week, top spec do, not this one. Top spec is a bit different when it comes to comfort and other features like automatic doors, etc.

An atypical SUV which drives like an ordinary SUV. The Tesla MY is a proper driver's car, it's super at that stuff. But I understand that non-enthusiast/mainstream drivers don't care about things like that so much. They want comfort, utility, and tech. All that the MY is still super at, but you get those things in the Zeekr for virtually nothing on top.

We need EV that are cheap, light and fast charging with a battery that makes sense with daily drive. Most people would not need more than a Smart car size with 100km range.
Absolutely disagree! European need a family car type which can do all jack trade from weekend road trip, tolling something to daily commute. The range need to be decent , good space while not costing a bomb.
What do you mean by legacy automakers? Because When I look at the Hyundai brand, Mercedes, even Volkswagen in some respect, Zeekr created a similarly priced car that weighs about 700-1000kg more. So even with less power the competition is similar in acceleration, range and features. Even interior quality.
So I get that you get more kg for your money. But is that what we want?
So are they good simply because government subsidy ?
Tesla model y is over rated .. most feel they just jittery and hard ride
