I owned one of theses a few years back, great car. Later found out they're the most reliable car in their class (large GT), and I can vouch for that. I have one as my daily, had it for 4 years. Its the most outstanding and reliable car I have had. What a lovely car. Although you did miss out its party trick. In sports mode the exhaust automatically rev matches on the down change. Wish you had shown that. Great video brother🤗
After 2003 (new gearbox & lots of improvements) the XKR became a fantastic motor car. Look at it all day - back then it was voted the most beautiful GT in the world. Drive and never have the grin wiped off your face :-)) I've got the convertible - my dream come true ! Charly
I have a 2007 XKR soft top, with just 45K on the clock. The soft top does kind of ruin the lines of the car, but I don't care. I've had the back box replaced with an Adamesh kit, and with the roof down it's addictive, especially when you down shift (it barks like a Maserati). It turns far more heads than the Porsche 911 997 I sold to buy it. Best car I have EVER owned. Sadly though, I've put it in the garage and SORN'ed it. Just no point when you can't go out!!
This car is based on exactly the same floor pan and underpinnings as the previous shape.. which also traced its roots back to the XJS. Ford took over Jaguar back in 1990 so were involved in both variants of the Xks. With its bloodline tracing back to the Xjs its Dna is proper Jaguar. The finish might not be as slick as some rivals - but these are tough old things and arguably mechanically more robust than a similarly aged Beemer.
Byron, the car has an all-aluminium monocoque chassis and completely different construction from the previous XK8/XKR (called the X100). The 4.2 engine is the big carryover, but other than that the X150 (2006-up) XK/XKR is a very different car.
Calv your reviews are second to none mate, such a genuine guy, what you see is what you get, not many like you about especially in the car trade, absolutely class 👍🏻
Actually really feel that Jaguar does some of the best transmission tuning of the ZF boxes. My moms previous gen XK 4.0 with the 5 Speed ZF shifted very fast for a vehicle of its age. Great response too.
The previous XKR with wooden dashboard was better in my opinion. Very understated. Not sure about the exhaust sound, sounds like bottom end rumble, did you check the oil ?
5 K or so (US) and if you do all the work yourself it’ll look new! Providing it doesn’t have major electric or mechanical issues. It’s basically the most reliable V8 in its class. So good luck.
Just thought I would say I am the current owner of this car. Since buying it’s had a fare bit of work done. The phone now works the side and rear window are tinted. The car now has a private plate. The electrical issues it had have all been corrected. Wheels have all been refurbished. Work still to do - headliner replacement, steering rack refurbishment and rear track rods and 4 wheel align. Been very pleased with this high mileage cat. Wave if you see the car around W25JCW
Just thought I’d say that I am the NEW owner of this car (well picking it up in a few days). Appreciate the work being done! All that work regarding headliner, steering rack refurbishment etc is still to be done, hoping to share some of the progress once done. Couldn’t get the Bluetooth working on the phone (won’t see new devices) but I think that might be a Bluetooth module issue.
Hi, I owned this car couple years back, and yes it was a pleasure to drive, had many issues with the electrics tho, battery health is crucial. Good luck and enjoy. Phil
@@rubydog99benson21 I sorted all the electrical issues before I sold the car but it did still require mechanical work. Miss the car a lot despite enjoying the pleasures of my new car
You can get wooden trim steering wheel in some of the xk's but it seems to be quite rare. I've found a few with wooden trims and leather steering wheel, but the only one I've seen with wooden steering wheel is my grandpa's 2006 xk
Being someone that has an older XKR, the X100 XK (the previous shape), I can say it does have a lot of Ford parts too, and isn't very well built. Lots of rattles when driving, and so many parts from Fords. They key is from a Ford, loads of switches from it, but most things inside feel nice and expensive. Looks like the interior isn't so good in that one though. Whichever one it is though, old or new, the supercharged V8 sounds incredible.
from personal experience, having a 99 and 08 the 99 feels much more quiet and higher quality, where the 08 is loud and a little cheaper feeling, but does better in reliability, and by that i mean less little quirks. the only cheapish aspect of the xk8 interior is the stereo and climate buttons but those have warmed up to me, I assume the ride quality is down to steel vs aluminum because the 08 is a bit faster and sportier, the 99 is smoother and quieter but a little slower acceleration
I picked up a 2009 xkr conv. 7 yrs ago with 32,000 miles on it and now its has 110.000 miles plus now! The only thing I went bad was the radiator electric fan! This the only ca I know dont have temp. Gauge ! Except the warning light that saying engine temperature is too high !
I would get an autool amazon obd gauge, plugs into OBD and shows temp, sometimes need to plug it and plug it back in though. have it on our 08 XK with 108k miles
Funny how these cars were criticised by the motoring press when they were in production - they thought the gearbox wasn't as good as the competition, the engine was too 'old school' and the styling dated... Now, everyone who reviews one seems surprised at how good they are. I have a 2012 XKR Convertible (with no rear badges) which is my 2nd X150 and 6th XK since 1997. These all aluminium cars will be being polished in someone's garage when offerings from Audi, BMW, Mercedes and others will have been scrapped.

I occasionally drive my friend's 03 Xtype saloon. Despite it being 30% Ford Mondeo it's still a very likable old car. Obviously it's nowhere near as nice to drive as my much newer XF. But for what you can pick an old Xtype up for now it's not a bad purchased at all. And because 30% of the parts are from Ford, it's not too expensive to repair when it inevitably breaks, as old Jags do.
Mines a 2010 not a FORD it’s owned by TATA now , so I’ve had it 13 years , 111,000 miles now , it would be in a lot better shape if my husband didn’t fuck it up and now it’s sitting in the elements on my ranch , I’ve still taken very good care of it , only thing is the stupid battery goes dead after 4 days or if it snows , I just got a trickle charger so that might help , this is the thing that annoyed me the most the dash board pealed up after I went from Las Vegas to Florida ,the humidity caused that to happen and Jag said it would be 4000 to fix it , then I got them down to 2000 it happened right after I went to the dealer ship to get my AC fixed in FL , but they said they didn’t go near the dash to fix the AC , anyway I never bothered , theres more important stuff to fix that keeps the car running that I’d rather spend 2000 on right now , anyway all in all it’s a great quality car , just wish i had a garage , I’m going to get it painted and get it in tip top shape next year , I think this car will be beautiful forever mine is black on black
