    Thanks for reminding me about fault codes caused by battery issues. I've got a code or 2 now and had low battery recently. It's true what you say, I've had faults in the past just disappear once the battery was OK again. For some reason some if not all XKs seem to suffer with parasitic battery drainage, many owners connect a trickle charger in the boot permanently!

      If the car is not in regular use, the trickle charger is imperative

    This is an excellent video on these Jags! I have a 2011 5.0 n.a. convert. I love it! I have an extremely reliable Honda as a daily. However, I use the Jag probably more, as it's great even just to sit in stuck in traffic. (I'm in New York City) I've done a lot to the car, even though I've owned it less than 10k miles as I'm a BIG believer in preventing problems so I can rest easy (or easier I should say) on the road. As it's a convert, I do worry about the back window coming apart though. I strongly prefer the XK over the F type... those back seats, basically unusable for humans, make excellent handy storage space! I cannot imagine how frustrating the F type would be for me. I think you said it when you said that the 150 5.0's are the "ultimate evolution of the Jaguar GT". I've had mine almost three years....and I still look back at it every time I park.
    Thanks again for the video! .... subscribed.

      I'm impressed with your love of your convertible, echos my feelings as well. I reckon if you don't look back at the car every time you leave it - you've bought the wrong car. Thanks for the Sub. Appreciated!

      I'm impressed that you have the R!
      I purposely did not get an R as I thought it was one more thing that could go wrong, and...... embarrassed to admit it now ...but the XK was intimidating enough for me. The sports car the XK was replacing was an MGB, you know like 95 milk wagon horses! (I was on the fourth engine, one fried head gasket, and not once but TWICE had a piston rod break, scramble the engine, and blow out through the oil pan! ..producing an excellent Bond oil slick.) I'm not a motor guy and those cars really need to be a hobby.
      Convertible: I love that you have a choice with one .....also, I can't tell you how many female cuties I get to chat up just sitting there in traffic.... lol.

      @@Floorguy1000 What a pleasant chatty comment. I had a "B' in the day as new red rag top and it DID pull the ladies.The "B" replaced my first car, a Spitfire. Loved the "bonnet up" and access of the Spitfire but the SU carbies were a nightmare to keep tuned. The "B" was much more sedate. It has the most distinguished exhaust note. Memorable. As for the XKR. You are missing the beast in the XK but I think the NA version would be just enough for me. Whatever they are both reliable. BUT do make sure they are oiled and watered regularly. Enjoy your XK. Thanks for the comment.

      @@xk-r-us I couldn't agree more about the importance of regular oil changes.
      On my 2010 n.a. 5.0L the oil change couldn't be simpler with the filter positioned on the top front of the engine and an oil removal tube inside the filler housing. I have an oil removal pump (£30) which sucks out all but the last drop of old oil via the tube and can do an oil and filter change in under 1/2 an hour, without having to jack up the car and get underneath and without getting scuffed knuckles or old oil running up to my elbows. Top marks from me to the designers at Jaguar for thinking of ease of maintenance, although replacing air filters is another matter .

    I love the looks of the XK and considered getting one. I bought an F-type because I live alone and don't have dependents. I'm still in the market for one though.

    Timing chain issues are the 5.0 not the 4.2. The 5.0 are the more problematic. Although any car with a chain should be listened out for.

    My son has a rare VX55 pre-production model and its most ridiculous flaw is to gain entry to the boot in the event of a flat battery there is a lock hidden behind the rear number plate however its an electronic lock which requires power from the flat battery 😱😱So if you close the boot with a battery disconnected then your looking at drilling out the lock 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

    • @xk-r-us
      @xk-r-us  2 місяці тому

      Good thing they found that before production. How weird.

    • @McGrory69
      @McGrory69 2 місяці тому

      @@xk-r-us With all the engineers involved why would nobody recognise that simple serious flaw before it left the drawing board? With a flat battery he can only get into the boot by jumping the battery from behind the back seats meaning you can never close the boot with a battery disconnected. Another common fault and the reason his battery kept going flat was a power drain from the separate security alarm horn deep in the engine bay which he eventually got disconnected solving the regular flat battery problem.

    • @GordonSmith-vb5ce
      @GordonSmith-vb5ce Місяць тому

      Not so. there's a post to connect the +ve jumper to behind the left rear wheel arch (it's the opposite end of the post near the left rear light, that you are recommended to use for trickle charging). Pick a convenient earth and you have power.

    • @McGrory69
      @McGrory69 Місяць тому

      @@GordonSmith-vb5ce Yes we know about that jumping point but that's not really the point being made. You can have a dozen jumping points around the car but if the battery is disconnected or for some reason power cant get to the boot lock then it would have to be drilled out to gain entry.

    • @toffeepie1878
      @toffeepie1878 Місяць тому

      @@McGrory69 The point he was making is you can bodge a 12V battery to the Aux supply under the left wheel arch to get power to the vehicle and that should allow you to open the boot - its not ideal and just one of the many things that are part of Jaguar ownership
