rooflemonger on the auto combo in air light light it's doing the jump cancel for you thats why u go up where when u do manuals you have manually jump cancel you self
Anthony not quite. Its not jump canceling at all as you still get to keep your jump cancel and use it later. My recent android 21 combo vids show combos only possible with using this auto-combo glitch/feature of raising your height.
No, in the android 21 video those combos are strictly only possible with using the added auto combo height. You cannot do them manually by using light medium period.
I am sure you do. However I am not advocating at all in the video you actually finish the auto combo, only do the first 2 parts which is light, light. Rest you can do as you please. Using light light gives you the additional height that doing light medium does not. There are combos only possible by doing light light that will not work and drop if you use light medium.
Every freaking time people upload videos saying stuff like 'things you might not know' it's completely obvious shit. Clicked this Video expecting to know 6 of 7 and the 7th one is just minor stuff that doesn't matter, but this REALLY helped! I feel bad for doubting you roofle :)
I go out of my way to avoid doing exactly that. I still expect people to know a few of these here or there but can't blame people for doing their homework.
Great tips, I noticed some of these things, but not others. So far I'm in love with this game, you can absolutely maul people with pressure, it's so much fun. Defending against that pressure is equally as exciting to me as well.
BTW not really essential but since the second hit of a grounded L, L is technically a medium, it is jump cancellable. And for some reason the jump goes farther compared to a regular M, jump cancel. Similar to a dash jump forward.
Same here hahaha. I could only play Marvel because of you. I'm trying to figure how to combo on Dragon Ball but it's just too complicated for now. I can only do some easy combos with characters like Goku doing down medium medium jump cancel light medium light medium and such.
Very nice video, didn't ever notice the bar would actually gain special meter when simply approaching the enemy! Guess I found out why I would get a shitton of special bars while using C16 compared to other characters with more zoning oriented move sets!
Rooflemonger, the last combo you did with the DHCs was actually only with two of them connecting. Goku Black's DHC is an animation that prevents them from getting hit outside of the super but the super(s) in the background still perform real time and just whiff. So in that combo Cell's super did no damage. Still, even 2 bars with DHC does more damage than level 3s.
haha i thought something was messed up since cell looked weird. The note I made right after did state thats 3 random characters I didn't know the interaction worked that way.
6:42 Good tip on using 3 DHCs instead of a Lv3 super. I'd like to add that another benefit of ending this way is that it leaves the opponent with less blue life (since Lv3 supers deal 100% blue damage).
Yes, better tip if I picked a non glitched version though. Normally 3 level 1s do a lot more damage than a level 3, but in the video cell glitched and did no damage once goku black hit the screen :-0
Help: I’ve noticed a lot of players use the bread and butter combo where they do a double jump before doing a down+heavy and dash, but then they do another down+heavy after a couple hits and the character seems to follow the other and you can get a couple more hits. I can’t seem to figure how to do it. Does it have to do with only using light attacks? I still can’t get it like that. Not sure how it works
I'd like to see some buffs too Beerus Broly & Nappa..& some more gd lockdown assists.. although I'm having fun with Vegito zamasu and Kid Buu right now
It makes all sorts of new routes possible. The recent android 21 combo video I posted half those combos are only possible with the light light added height.
Well I don't know if it "wants" you to, but in the air at least using auto combo for 2 hits is basically seemingly superior to hitting the actual buttons in proper order.
Yes, in certain situations. They "glue" characters together in situations where the manual combo would drop, so you use them, for example, as a last part of a bnb manual combo.
There are exceptions to the rule but generally, if you want a combo to always work, then using LL is better than doing LM. The exception I speak of is if you want to do LMLH air combos which is more optimal and in which case, if you did LL, your third L will automatically be an H whereas if you manually did the input LMLH, it allows you to get more hits in. This will, of course, vary from character to character but it is good to keep in mind. Also, doing LL instead of LM is ideal at the very end of your air combos because it will guarantee that the M will land whereas if you did the manual input of LM, it will drop occasionally depending on how high up you are in the air.
I'd say that it's not entirely correct to say that the aerial auto combo is explicitly better than the traditional chain attack. True the extra upward momentum makes most follow ups more consistent, but in some cases you might want to be lower to the ground. Right now I'm doing a Cell combo that uses a beam or projectile assist to relaunch the opponent and the added float of the auto combo doesn't allow me to land in time to follow up the assist. Also being lower to the ground at the end of a combo can open up more time after landing for okizeme opportunities. In general though I agree that new players should probably start with learning to jump cancelled the second hit of the auto combo to extend their damage.
I don't have the game open so I can't confirm this for sure. But I think the Cell light, back light link works for all characters. I think holding back is a way to stop the auto combo from working.
Whitman in this video cell was doing back medium Back Medium which he As far as I know Is the only one with that All characters can do the back light thing
I was wondering why I couldn’t do a launcher midway through the air combo to extend it like ppl do. So I have to start the air combo with light light then go into a launcher from there is what ur saying?
You can get an air launcher as long as the combo started grounded. If you started a combo with a heavy or crouching head then you won't be able to get the secondary launcher. Only 1 launch per combo allowed. That said you can still use the launcher moves in combos, and the only practical way to do so is with the light, light method versus hitting light, medium.
Thanks for the video! I have to ask: What makes a trio "optimal" for DHC damage? I'm naive enough to think that as long as everything connects it's all good (like in the video) but apparently it's not true?
Well keep in mind, after making this video I found out it actually glitched a bit and cell wound up doing zero damage. A property with goku black it would seem. That said I couldn't even begin to tell you the true optimal damage, as long as all 3 supers play nice with each other thats good enough really.
Great videos. I'm a noob in team based fighters so i was wondering if you'd make a video on how to approach the neutral in these kind of games. Would be appreciated. Kind regards, a loyal sub.
I plan on debuting a side series (besides character specifics, and lets learn _______) that focuses on more conceptual stuff like that yes. Don't know when its gonna happen just yet but hopefully before the week is up.
When you did your 3 lvl 1 compared to your lvl 3 you skipped cell's super xD have to be careful with goku black to let the barrier hit otherwise cell just fly away doing nothing.
Haven’t played since launch use to be able to compete online when the game was fresh but now hell no lol I’ll be watching all these videos too catch up to the level of players now
OHHHHH MY GOD I've been watching you on and off since a friend recommended me a while back (just started trying the game out) and I always got stumped on how to do air combos because I never understood how people kept going higher while I always petered out right after the first l>m. I always hear "l>m>l>m" but never "l>l>m>l>m" to continue it higher. I do understand that you don't have to do that as it depends on what you want to do, but DAMNIT I'M TRYING TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND! Thanks for the tips & your videos, and maybe I'll get better by next year!
Ok I keep having this problem where if I try and use a special move I get it to come out about 20% of the time, I have really big hands so maybe I'm pressing more on the D-pad than I'm wanting to but I play a lot of fighting games and I never have this problem. Is this a glitch or me?
I have large hands as well and I think part of your issue is you may be over thinking/over stressing it. Now I guess I can't rule out hardware malfunction but on the d-pad just take your time and roll your thumb from down to forward, or down to back as the move demands and hit the button. In practice mode you can just chill and work it out as many times as it takes.
It's because you aren't taping in the direction at the same time you input your attack. That's the reason you aren't getting high enough without the auto combo. In guilty gear they would make you tap the direction pad in the same direction you input a hit to stay right on top of your opponent in the air. The auto combo does that extra directional input for you.
If you tap in a direction after an aerial attack, you get a double jump. This is not a double jump, you retain your double jump after the additional height gain from the auto combo.
You are talking about double jumps/jump cancels, this isn't it. The auto combo glues characters together and allows for "breaking" of mechanics, ie regardless of how well you perform the manual combo, you will always drop it after certain amount of juggles because that's the way the game works. You replace the last manual combo with the auto one and the game makes you succeed. You are free to try it and see for yourself.
So i have pretty good base knowledge of the game. And usually to start combos I do light, light, crouch medium, standing medium. Then I jump light, jump medium into jumping down heavy. After the standing medium would it be better to jump and auto combo or manually put in the combo?
all depends on the character. Android 21 cannot do certain combos without the added extra auto combo height. Android 16 will drop his combos as he will be too high up.
crouch+MM, jump cancel LML, down+H, homing dash, LML, double jump, LM down+H, qcf+M That was just a combo I learned in the beta, I am sure there is/will be better stuff than that.
god.. coming from my most serious fighter being mvc2 i cannot get over the auto combo system, and the light attack to set up combos...such big habits to drop
Another good reminder is to never just standing S, it’s completely useless and it’s only function is to reset in to a super dash for a continuation of a real combo
These were some great tips, and definitely something every serious player needs to know! Question: Why is it that sometimes opponents end up in that hard knockdown state after an air combo, and sometimes they can tech out of it?
From a heavy attack in the air? It would seem(although I canot yet confirm it 100%) that it is based off height in the air. If you are high up the spikedown is a hard knockdown, if not then nothin.
In my experience forward, or down/forward works, but up forward does not no. I have gotten u/f to work a few times but it seems wildly inconsistent vs the other to methods.
Hold back during your super and press the assisst button. If you want to do it raw, just do Half Circle back during a smash animation (Standing and Jumping Heavy)
Just like, I have scientifically crunched the numbers so these 3 supers in sequence get the absolute maximum damage output. I just picked 3 random characters for the video.
I just want tips and/or guide for people who are playing super defensive. I got used to people rushing in during the beta. But now people are just crouch blocking 24/7
I actually got a new series of video that is gonna debut in 1-3 days just explaining general concepts. Stuff like that is exactly what I will be covering.
Tip 6 i figured it out myself the hard way. I hope this is actually a bug or not intentional because the latter option mentioned in tip 6 is more skillful but for some reason it is actually less rewarding.
Well there is an actual bug, and its in tip #7 :-0 Cell actually did no damage. I can recreate this bug has to do with goku black DHC super. Should do like 6800 damage instead.
Auto combos are not strictly superior. Sometimes they will cause you to gain too much elevation. Try doing a simple air combo against Frieza with Android 16. If you try to do j.L, j.L, j.c, j.L, j.L (air auto combo with a jump cancel), 16 will rise too high and the opponent will fall out.
Been a term for fighting game users since the early 2000's. Means delayed hyper combo, fancy term for meaning you do a super, then the next guy in line does their super.
I sure hope not. If they do then my current android 21 combos go out the window if I lose the height Light light gives me. And besides it not the actual full auto combo its just 2 button presses. Hitting Light, Medium, doesn't take anymore skill than just hitting light light so im OK with it.
Hope you find these tips helpful!
rooflemonger on the auto combo in air light light it's doing the jump cancel for you thats why u go up where when u do manuals you have manually jump cancel you self
Anthony not quite. Its not jump canceling at all as you still get to keep your jump cancel and use it later. My recent android 21 combo vids show combos only possible with using this auto-combo glitch/feature of raising your height.

Manually inputting the combos as light medium does not do more damage at all. That is factually incorrect.
I love how blocked ki blasts get deflected into the background and create explosions and craters.
Yep a lot of attention to detail in the game.
Only if you back and special at the right time
Every freaking time people upload videos saying stuff like 'things you might not know' it's completely obvious shit.
Boy. 2 years later and I just find out that light starter scales the damage. Always something to learn even in the old texts 💚
Had no idea about the block string cancelling into dragon rush. Thank you.
This guy should be way more popular on here! Good stuff!
Appreciate it!
Great tips, I noticed some of these things, but not others. So far I'm in love with this game, you can absolutely maul people with pressure, it's so much fun. Defending against that pressure is equally as exciting to me as well.
Keanu Valen yes i always get hype off good defense
BTW not really essential but since the second hit of a grounded L, L is technically a medium, it is jump cancellable. And for some reason the jump goes farther compared to a regular M, jump cancel. Similar to a dash jump forward.
Some of these tips indeed expand the depth behind what is ideal for damage in this game..
Do some combo guides like u do for marvel vs capcom u helped me alot
I will! I will start making the first one after the Royal Rumble tonight. But gotta watch the rumble im a big wrestling mark.
Same here hahaha. I could only play Marvel because of you. I'm trying to figure how to combo on Dragon Ball but it's just too complicated for now. I can only do some easy combos with characters like Goku doing down medium medium jump cancel light medium light medium and such.
What do u play on
Martin I play on PS4.
Thats cool maybe we could play somtime
the scaling tip was very good, nice video
Very nice video, didn't ever notice the bar would actually gain special meter when simply approaching the enemy! Guess I found out why I would get a shitton of special bars while using C16 compared to other characters with more zoning oriented move sets!
Yes. The DBF Rooflemonger videos are finally here. Could you possibly make a video surrounding the rage/sparking mechanic?
Sparking/X-factor video expect in a day or two actually! Just finished my android 21 combo guide(went up minutes ago) and now its time to pass out.
rooflemonger that is well deserved rest. Thanks man, looking forward to the video
Thanks for this. Been playing for a little bit and I didn’t know about most of these! Subscribed.
This I really useful I didn't know about the super dash out of grab. I've been stuck in corners against Vegeta's ki blasts many times
Rooflemonger, the last combo you did with the DHCs was actually only with two of them connecting. Goku Black's DHC is an animation that prevents them from getting hit outside of the super but the super(s) in the background still perform real time and just whiff. haha i thought something was messed up since cell looked weird. The note I made right after did state thats 3 random characters I didn't know the interaction worked that way.
rooflemonger Yeah it's tricky. I main Black and DHCing with him is difficult.
Huge fan of your videos by the way! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for tip 6! Very helpful
6:42 Good tip on using 3 DHCs instead of a Lv3 super. I'd like to add that another benefit of ending this way is that it leaves the opponent with less blue life (since Lv3 supers deal 100% blue damage).
Yes, better tip if I picked a non glitched version though. Normally 3 level 1s do a lot more damage than a level 3, but in the video cell glitched and did no damage once goku black hit the screen :-0
these tips are essentially essential
You need more subs. Heads up on so many things - wish i knew #6 before all the combo practice 😩
Also - SUBBED
Hey well if you think I need more subs feel free to share around vids you think might help others :-0
Tip# 6 was very useful! Thanks!

Thanks some stuff from there was super helpful. Would you mind making a video about vanish ?
Yep I plan on making more indepth videos about several gameplay mechanics. Just right now fighting against how many hours are in a day :-0
I'd like to see some buffs too Beerus Broly & Nappa..& some more gd lockdown assists.. although I'm having fun with Vegito zamasu and Kid Buu right now
Yo that light light in the air moving you higher is some real shit, I would have never thought to check that!
It makes all sorts of new routes possible. The recent android 21 combo video I posted half those combos are only possible with the light light added height.
rooflemonger I already have some stuff in mind to check out when I get home, especially with Gotenks and how his specials can move him up or down too.
rooflemonger Would you say that there's no reason to L, M, jump L,M any more since this way is better and more efficient than the old one?
I would not say theres no reason, as some combos you actually do not want the extra height. Its just another layer to keep in mind.
Tip #6 has me sorta confused, so the game wants us to use autocombos?
Well I don't know if it "wants" you to, but in the air at least using auto combo for 2 hits is basically seemingly superior to hitting the actual buttons in proper order.
Zakaria Mohamed The boost is probably there so that the Auto combo always works and never drops

As far as I know

All characters can do the back light thing
Ahhh. Alright, I completely missed that. Thanks for the heads up.
The three DHCs thing is especially helpful if you have tien next or any character with STRONG supers, the less hits the better because damage scaling.
Also better when cell doesn't glitch out and do no damage like what happened in this video :-0. Combo shoulda done way more.
Great tips dude! Thanks!
I was wondering why I couldn’t do a launcher midway through the air combo to extend it like ppl do. So I have to start the air combo with light light then go into a launcher from there is what ur saying?

@7:44 your combo should have done more damage but you tagged out Cell before his super hit.
Yep I only realized it after the video was originally made :-0
U can use a lv3 dhc. Circle back on switch
It's because you aren't taping in the direction at the same time you input your attack. That's the reason you aren't getting high enough without the auto combo. great vid, wouldve helped if included on how to do certain things like force a switch out for those not familiar with fighting games (like myself)
Asempp press the tag button during dragon rush
Damn, this whole time I've been doing light knocked Downs. I just got home and practice this. I could have won a lot of matches if I had done it.
No other type of game exemplifies practice makes perfect more than a fighter. Its always a journey!
Great tips very informative
1:20 how do you do that? my dragon dash doesn't throw him
Hit either assist button during it and it will tag in that enemy character by force!
oh thank you so much
Late outro song was too weird haha
Nice vid! Really helpful☆
6castehappybrothers4 Watchu know about True Love Making, kid?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
So i have pretty good base knowledge of the game. And usually to start combos I do light, light, crouch medium, standing medium. Then I jump light, jump medium into jumping down heavy. After the standing medium would it be better to jump and auto combo or manually put in the combo?
all depends on the character. Android 21 cannot do certain combos without the added extra auto combo height. Android 16 will drop his combos as he will be too high up.
rooflemonger thanks ill just hop in and start experimenting. I also run the same 3 characters you have in this video being 22, goku black, and cell
Omg you on your a game bro keep it up!
You sir, have taught me a lot. Thus earning you a new subscriber thanks for the Tips bro.
Plenty more where that came from!
Awesome vid, can i just ask what buttons did you press for that juicy final combo?
crouch+MM, jump cancel LML, down+H, homing dash, LML, double jump, LM down+H, qcf+M
That was just a combo I learned in the beta, I am sure there is/will be better stuff than that.
rooflemonger fantastic thank you, really helpful
wait, you can LM after the second LML? I thought you could only LL into finisher...
As far as Tip #7 goes, how will I be able to tag in my other 2 team members, after doing a Level 1 special?
Just hit your assist buttons while doing a super, if you have bar to spare they will do theirs.
Bravo to this helpful info!
god.. coming from my most serious fighter being mvc2 i cannot get over the auto combo system, and the light attack to set up combos...such big habits to drop
My biggest question is for controller player what should i use my sticks or the other things ?
Pretend the analog sticks don't exist. You should never use them for a fighting game.
Awesome video.
Please wtf is a blue combo nobody is explaining this I tech out and the combo just never drops why is it blue
You got with the tuna lube making 👌
On the lvl 3 stuff, isn't tagging make blue life bar disapeared ?
It does yes. I worded it the way I did though to help people understand you can force the tag and the bonus is it makes the health go away.
Another good reminder is to never just standing S, it’s completely useless and it’s only function is to reset in to a super dash for a continuation of a real combo
Is it possible to do a trunks or gotenks guide next? 🙂
Going to be covering as many characters as I can! Only thing is its a fight against how many hours are in a day :-0
These were some great tips, and definitely something every serious player needs to know!
After super dash Light,Light,Down Heavy,Jump,Jump,Light,Light,Ki Blast
Thc not dhc...aka...team hyper combo??
how did you link the light after hitting the down heavy the second time at 5:13 ?
He jumped canceled
Serch Light i dont understand how that works... i do: 2x light + down heavy and try instantly to jump and do a light again.. but it doesnt work
Lord Nose okay uh
Did you already use up your jump cancel ?
You can only do it once and it should be saved for this moment
Yep what serch light said. After the down heavy I jump forward but you can only double jump once. Use it up and its gone.
Does it have to be forward and super dash to air dash? Can you do u/f + super dash to do an instant air dash?
In my experience forward, or down/forward works, but up forward does not no. I have gotten u/f to work a few times but it seems wildly inconsistent vs the other to methods.
rooflemonger that's perfect thanks! That means I can u/f, d/f+super dash to instant air dash 😁
Nice stuff, thx
Could you do some vids on the ssjblues soon
21 is first up at bat, after that I have no idea. I don't even know what my own team is yet :-0
What buttons do you press for tip#4
Just R2/RT, thats the homing dash.
How do you start a combo with an overhead?
Only 2 ways. Either do an assist with the overhead so the hits combo, or be in sparking blast.
How do you DHC the other two characters at the same time?
Simply hit the assist button when a character is doing a super, and they will come out and do a super as well.
How do you force a tag out?
After a Dragon rush(throw) hit one of the two assist buttons. It will by force tag out the enemy and bring in that character.
Yo I might be high as fuq
But did cell's ult not hit when you dhced
Ho ho I just tried the dhc thing it did around 6300
Yeah cell seemingly just disappeared. I was wondering what was going on but I was under extreme time pressure so had to go with that take :-0
How did you switch to the other team in training mode
L3 on analog. If you are on stick then uhhhhhhhhh, I dunno unless you system level rebind stuff.
I can’t do jump cancel in a real match only in training mode. :”(
Practice makes perfect! Real matches can be stress inducing even if you don't think it is, and it will mess up your timing and everything.
HOW DO I DO A 3 BAR SUPER WITH MY TAG PARTNERS!?
Half circle back (fwd-back) and the tag button you want
CCBacara Thank You!
Not half circle back. Just hold back and tag after you start with your primary lvl 1
Hold back during your super and press the assisst button. If you want to do it raw, just do Half Circle back during a smash animation (Standing and Jumping Heavy)
what do you mean with optimal teams?
Just like, I have scientifically crunched the numbers so these 3 supers in sequence get the absolute maximum damage output. I just picked 3 random characters for the video.
I just want tips and/or guide for people who are playing super defensive. I got used to people rushing in during the beta. But now people are just crouch blocking 24/7
I actually got a new series of video that is gonna debut in 1-3 days just explaining general concepts. Stuff like that is exactly what I will be covering.
how do you do the 3 tag in super thing
Hitting an assist button while doing a super will tag in that character and they will do a level 1 super as well.
Hey Roof you know you gotta do a whole tutorial series just like you did with Marvel
I plan to! Even got a secondary tutorial series in mind for the more pure beginner focused people, since DBZ bringing in so much new blood.
Oh good to know! I hope Arc system works fix this.
I forget about chargeable normals
Display your buttons please :)
You didn't tell people HOW to make your opponent tag out. You don't just grab and they tag out, there's an extra input for it
Yeah I didn't. But it is covered in the in-game tutorial as it teaches you. I wanted to discuss the actual big use of it in removing health.
Auto combos are not strictly superior. Sometimes they will cause you to gain too much elevation. Try doing a simple air combo against Frieza with Android 16. If you try to do j.L, j.L, j.c, j.L, j.L (air auto combo with a jump cancel), 16 will rise too high and the opponent will fall out.
they are 90% superior
Ok, but on Yamcha and 16 they can cause you to drop the combo pretty regularly. Just letting you know. Not always the best option.
Might happen on other characters too, but haven't been labbing everyone.
Everyone says "DHC" but they never mention what it means.
Been a term for fighting game users since the early 2000's. Means delayed hyper combo, fancy term for meaning you do a super, then the next guy in line does their super.
Tip 8: Push the buttons right
The auto combo thing is such a turn off. I wish it was inferior in every way but seems like you have to use them in order to be the best
philipanakwue well it’s kind of better than juggling your opponent in the air. I thought the same thing like you to but I like it.
ehhhhh its not a big deal. Is it really more skillful to hit light medium instead of light light one or two times in a combo? Its fine.
I don't get why auto combos would ever be superior to non auto combos. They should change that in a patch or something.
I sure hope not. If they do then my current android 21 combos go out the window if I lose the height Light light gives me. And besides it not the actual full auto combo its just 2 button presses. Hitting Light, Medium, doesn't take anymore skill than just hitting light light so im OK with it.
