      Hi, I'm NOT in Arizona, rather the opposite here in Wisconsin (!) but I have an aunt in Phoenix area who gardens and I know for many things, you do have provide more shade in the summer. Or, for annuals, grow them in other times of year (compared to much of the US), such as winter, or Autumn/Spring. If this is the case with herbs like basils, u can save seeds then for the next season. You'd have to look it up obviously, research any plant your interested in. Often u can also glean a lot of info from seed catalogs, some give more than others. Johnny's seeds is a great one for that, as they cater to the market growers. I don't usually buy from them, but keep a catalog for the info :). Pinetree Garden Seeds, Baker Creek, and Seed Saver's Exchange have a good selection, better than most probably when it comes to herbs, & unusual or rare types and varieties.
      Also may be of interest to u is to look for gardening YT-ers in the SW, & to check your local library for books on it too.

    You should cut all of the seed pods if you want more and more Tulsi leaves on your plant. Pruning makes it bushier.

    This used in Ethiopian dining and called besobela በሶብላ specially with ‘alcha msir wet’, it’s a stew maid with lentils and has a kind of light yellowish colour that comes from a pinch of turmeric. It also used as an ingredient to prepare spices. And now I was searching how I could plant it leaving outside Ethiopia and to prepare the stew using it. Thank you for this video.

    I've been researching the lifespan of Tulsi plants. Some people say they live between 1 and 3 years. But I have a few specimens in my garden that have lived for nearly a decade and are still incredibly prolific. I suppose it's the growing zone you live in. Anyone else have success with Tulsi plants over wintering and living beyond the 3 to 5 year mark? I have one potent Vana tulsi that will officially be a decade old after winter this year.

    • @DKMKartha108
      @DKMKartha108 3 роки тому

      I have a single Vana Tulasi (forest basil) that has being growing satisfactorily indoors over 6 years now. Not too many leaves are there, but I prune it whenever the plants flowers and almost each year a new shoot comes out of the roots while other branches shed leaves and dry out. I live in the USDA 3 - 6 plant hardiness zone around 3000 feet above sea level. This year I have a Greek Columnar Basil indoors doing well in October, but we will wait and see how the harsh winter here affects the plant.

    how do you keep the slugs from eating it all??

    • @FruitionSupport
      @FruitionSupport 10 місяців тому

      There are a couple ways to battle slugs. The first and simplest being, take away slug hiding places and habitat. If you have lots of vegetation on the ground or pots or wood that they could be living under, clean it all out and they will have less place to reside. You can turn to solutions like Sluggo, which we use here on our farm when we are desperate. You can also try cups of beer or vinegar. They will crawl into the cup as they are attracted to the beer or vinegar and will drown. If you use that method, you will need to place lots of cups out as it only attracts slugs within a few feet of the cup.
