Tulsi is also known as kaprao in Thai cooking. Pad kaprao is a Thai dish that used a TON of it. I went a little crazy with basil seed purchases this year. Very excited to grow Sweet Dani basil, which is a lemon basil variety. Lemon basil is used in a lot of Southeast Asian cuisines too. It goes into Lao stews and Indonesian curries.
YES! i grow basil every day inside my home! We make spinach, avocado, burritos with onions tomatoes shredded chedder and sour cream. We LOVE fresh basil! the recipe calls for about 8 leaves in each burrito. . . . .usually we use about 20 each! so yum!
Great video. Growing up in India, Tulsi (holy basil) was something we had every day. Almost every household has a Tulsi plant and it is considered sacred. Great medicinal properties. Came to know about other types of basil and Pesto, much much later.
I love Holy Basil! There’s nothing more refreshing than to walk through my tiny garden and brush against the plant! I’m in zone 6a, and even though Tulsi is not a perennial, it has sprouted up in various places in my garden! Almost as if it’s saying “I like it here better”, so I allow it to grow! 💖

I planted out purple basil in the front yard last year. During the dry period, some of the stems fell over and began to root in place. When the wet season arrived, it turned into a large bush that is around a meter round. I never knew that they got that big but I am so happy that it is thriving in the garden bed. Every single time that I go downstairs to look at my garden, however, I always see at least one bee hovering about my Thai Basil plants along the front fence.

I save a cutting before the frost took it out and I have 20 plus plants ready to plant and share this year. I had honey bees for the first time in years last summer and they were all on this plant!
