It's not likely, but if the store would credit the $500.00 Trade - In allowance back to my original form of payment the purchase would basically be a wash and I would not miss out on the 16GB Model. I really would like to see a comparison between the M1 Pro 14” base model with the new M4s. I have a first generation basic M1 Pro 14’, and want to know if it is worth the upgrade? I love my M1 Pro. But the new new is so cool. Thoughts?
No bad options? IMO, any of the MacBook Air base models with 256GB SSD are dubious if not outright bad options for most people. Unless you're a student who can keep your documents in the Cloud, I'd say that the viable options start at $1300 and $1600 for Air and Pro respectively.
My camera's SD card is now 512GB. 512GB is only offered on the cheap models on windows side, Let alone them daring to ship 2024 models with just 256Gb.... Phones these days have more storage....
I’m using a7rv too and I’m using m3 MacBook Air M3 16GB + 512GB. It’s working great too. I came from Macbookk Pro M2 Pro 18GB + 512GB. The speed doesn’t really differentiated much other than the screen brightness which doesn’t affect much. As the weight of the air is much lighter
The M4's only different is 2 more cpu cores, 400 more nits in brightness. Everything else is the same only for the base model M3 vs M4. Not worth the upgrade or purchase. Just get a M3 with 16 GB of Ram .
Currently have the Air 15 M2 8gb 256, and for web development I have being struggling. Multiple tabs open, adobe products in use, and vs code it’s slowing down the process so I decided to preorder the base m4.
I would probably expect the M4 Macbook Air to have an additional 2 hours of battery life, because if you compare the m3 Macbook pro and the M4 model, there's exactly 2 hours of difference but who knows I'm just assuming at this point.
i wish Apple updated M4 chip on all computers at the same time.. or if you could pay a bit extra for OLED screen on Macbook Air, would be a perfect laptop, 15/16 inc MacBook Air with M4 and OLED screen.
I think they will get oled once they get the tandem-oled solution to be cheap to mass-produce as now it is quite expensive and unreasonable. You get 16gb ram now not because of AI but rather because the m4 silicon is better-yielding and cheaper to manufacture.
I would love an oled air to use in a more travel friendly laptop. But I fear it won’t make it to the air for at least 1-2 gens past the pro. Especially not the dual stack 120hz display my iPad has. Would be great in a MacBook Pro too of course but I’m favorable to the more stationary 16” pro and I don’t think it would be as important as with a travel/smaller laptop (and my iPad goes with me basically everywhere and that brightness slays).
Not sure about the macs, but on the ipad pro (i have bought one) there is a big quality drop in image quality. If you think the nano texture is good for you I would advise you to wait and see in a apple store for yourself.
The 14 inch M4 is very tempting compared to the 15 inch air (superb screen, port etc). But I don't know if my vision of a 68 year old man could regret the missing inch of difference. And the 16 is too bulky. I am in a complete indecision
Just got the newest MacBook Air back in September with 8gb.... is it worth trading in for one with 16gb? Clearly I'm going to loose some money if I do and have to come out of pocket for the difference. Probably not worth it?
I would go to the store and see if you get an exchange. It has not been that long and even if you are passed the return window see if you get something
It depends on what you do with it. Does it feel slow to you? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Use what you have and be happy. When--or if--you notice it being slow, get something new.
I was thinking to get M4 Air but new MacBook Pro screen brightness is something I cannot skip. Now question between 1.6k vs 2k MBP - technically running browser mail, excel, and remote apps so don’t need all that multi core performance nor tb5 nor 24GB of ram. But what if I would want to run a VM locally one day.
Love the video mate. But... you should take a look at your benchmark 'charts'. They give a false idea of the speed difference between the MBA and MBP, because the lines don't start at zero. For instance at 6:28: The MBA line looks like it's about 2/3 of the length of te MBP line. So the MBP looks almost 50% faster in multicore. But it isn't. It's 24% faster in multicore as your saying... Same goes for the single core charts. This way the MBP looks waaay better than MBA, but the difference is not thát big.
Would you trade the MacBook Air M3 16GB 512GB for the new MacBook Pro M4 base? I still have time to trade it in, but I confess that I prefer the size of this screen.
Knowing the M4 MB Pros were coming, I very deliberately just replaced my 2018 13" MB Pro (16gb RAM/512 gb storage) with a new 13" M3 Air (24 gb RAM/512gb storage) last week. I have an M1 Ultra Studio on my desk so my laptop is really for secondary usage and travel and I'm thrilled with the new Air. Also, having acquired it via Apple's Refurbished route, the value equation for me is even better.
For me, the 15" Macbook Air isn't only great because of the noticeably bigger display, but also the bigger trackpad. I also noticed the keyboard felt better, more tactile on the Macbook Air and more flimsy on the Macbook Pro.
I noticed even the refurbished Macbook pro and airs got cheaper, so I wouldn't get a brand new one, the 16gb ram version of the 13inch macbook Air is going for $979 even cheaper than the M2 macbook air.
Folks wished a bigger air display and it’s worth it but for the pro I still kinda feel 14.2 isn’t enough so we pay more for the 16 (the greatest ever) but expensive as hell
I really feel most people benefit with better performance by having more ram. Most people do not notice as much performance with the processor compared with SSD speeds and ram. The M2 Air looks to be a good deal and M3 if you can swing it.
Honestly I dont understand this two screen thing. My macbook air m3 works perfectly with several screens and I dont have to close the lid of m air. I am using docking station with a software called display link manager. My they solved this problem years ago. Dont know.
I subbed because you put your goal out there and I like to see people achieve their goals! ESPECIALLY when those people add value to the world! Thanks for the video sir
This was critical in helping me make a decision to purchase the MACBOOK PRO M4 I'm also leaning towards the M4 pro an additional $200 Since it only comes with 24 gb ram I'm also considering upgrading to 1 terabyte of memory if additional memory is needed in use of memory intensive applications But I would appreciate if you make a video on why to upgrade ram and memory
I just bought the iMac m4. Tired of waiting around for the Mac Studio m4 max. I’ll use it for a year then sell it. I’m currently using 2015 iMac so this iMac will still be a decent upgrade
If you are cautious it's possible to be ok with 256gb storage, but it can be a pain in the ass if you have huge libraries or play big games. I'ts a shame that we also didn't get 512gb with the 16 gb ram.
Memory and storage upgrades are way overpriced. The base prices seem descent until you realize that, plus you'll probably pay a couple of hundred for any simple repairs you might have. Was thinking of switching because I already own an iphone/watch/airpods, but they keep giving me reasons not to.
I’m a little surprised you’re not already above 400k. You’ve always had a great coverage and sound advice for your audience. Keep up the great work and you’ll be there before you know it.
Great video as always. Super informative! One thing I’d note though is that the air isn’t just for people who want good value but that design is a feature in itself. The lightness just makes it “easier” and more accessible to use. I had the M1 Pro MacBook Pro and it was great - screen and speakers, honestly loved it but hated using it on my lap. Sold it and got the MBA and yes I miss the screen and speakers but for me that’s the trade off for it being comfy for me.
Been thinking which one to get for music production, both seem amazing but now ive just decided going for the macbook pro M4 . Fits all my needs even if its more extensive but if im gonna spend ill do it once .

Now that Apple doubled the memory from 8GB to 16GB I looked into trading up to the 16GB model and can get $500.00 Trade -In credit.
It's not likely, but if the store would credit the $500.00 Trade - In allowance back to my original form of payment the purchase would basically be a wash and I would not miss out on the 16GB Model.
If not. I would be losing both the $200.00 saved as well as the $350.00 Trade - In allowance on the sale price.
I only do basic things i.e. UA-cam videos & email so I probably shouldn't obsess over losing out on double the memory.
What do you think ?
I use a MacBook Air 15inch with 24GB/1TB, and see no reason to upgrade to a base MacBook Pro.

I really would like to see a comparison between the M1 Pro 14” base model with the new M4s. I have a first generation basic M1 Pro 14’, and want to know if it is worth the upgrade? I love my M1 Pro. But the new new is so cool. Thoughts?
Best comparision yet
No bad options? IMO, any of the MacBook Air base models with 256GB SSD are dubious if not outright bad options for most people. Unless you're a student who can keep your documents in the Cloud, I'd say that the viable options start at $1300 and $1600 for Air and Pro respectively.
My camera's SD card is now 512GB. 512GB is only offered on the cheap models on windows side, Let alone them daring to ship 2024 models with just 256Gb.... Phones these days have more storage....
I have an smb share I can access anywhere. For a Mac it’s really not a big deal for me

ok what if I just bought the Mac air M3 an upgrade is the worth it ?
I shoot with Sony a7rv with 61mp resolution. Does m3 macbook air serve the purpose? Specifically when I run denoise on lightroom.
@ thank you appreciate your response.
I have a feeling the newer M4 Macbook Air will max out at 32gb ram.
Macbook Pro M3 pro, or Macbook M4??

what should i buy? my current dying MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
Great vid answered all my questions I had in mind
Does anyone know why is M4 cheaper than M3?
The M4's only different is 2 more cpu cores, 400 more nits in brightness. Everything else is the same only for the base model M3 vs M4. Not worth the upgrade or purchase. Just get a M3 with 16 GB of Ram .
Currently have the Air 15 M2 8gb 256, and for web development I have being struggling. Multiple tabs open, adobe products in use, and vs code it’s slowing down the process so I decided to preorder the base m4.
is because of 8gb ram.. not enough.
@@ArthArmaniexactly so this new base model MacBook Pro 14 is perfect for my use case

@@truthteller2711I will!
It doesnt need oled, the screen on their laptops is one of the best screens, its even color accurate
@@andrediego6131 on MacBook Air? or Pro?
It will be for 2030
I think they will get oled once they get the tandem-oled solution to be cheap to mass-produce as now it is quite expensive and unreasonable.
I will be a data scientist or data analyst, so which laptop is better for me m4 pro 16gb or m3 air 24gb

Is there any reason to not get the nano-texture display?
Not sure about the macs, but on the ipad pro (i have bought one) there is a big quality drop in image quality. If you think the nano texture is good for you I would advise you to wait and see in a apple store for yourself.

The 14 inch M4 is very tempting compared to the 15 inch air (superb screen, port etc). But I don't know if my vision of a 68 year old man could regret the missing inch of difference. And the 16 is too bulky. I am in a complete indecision
I have a M3 Air with only 8gbs of ram… when the M4 Air drops I might trade mine in for a M4 with at least 16gbs of ram
Can you compare macbook pro m4 and mac book pro m4 pro
Question how does the macbook air m3 compare to the macbook pro 2020. I need specs comparison 😂
Just got the newest MacBook Air back in September with 8gb.... is it worth trading in for one with 16gb? Clearly I'm going to loose some money if I do and have to come out of pocket for the difference. Probably not worth it?
By how much?
I would go to the store and see if you get an exchange. It has not been that long and even if you are passed the return window see if you get something
@@franciscosanchez2585 That's pretty 2 months later. The odds of them taking a return is extremely low.
It depends on what you do with it. Does it feel slow to you? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Use what you have and be happy. When--or if--you notice it being slow, get something new.
Don’t do it. It’s not worth it, if for normal use. Or go pro if you upgrade…
Should we wait for macbook air m4 ? It is said that it will most likely come out early 2025
Commenting bc I am curious as well!
What did you end up doing??

Mac mini with the m4 pro chip. installed in my 2014 prius. in the glove box. with a 15 inch touch screen
Hello. I found a macbook pro m1 16/512 GB SSD for $900 dollars which has 16 battery cycles. Is it worth to buy it
no don’t
They added 16 gb which has been standard for almost every pc
For me, the 15" Macbook Air isn't only great because of the noticeably bigger display, but also the bigger trackpad. I also noticed the keyboard felt better, more tactile on the Macbook Air and more flimsy on the Macbook Pro.
I was under the impression that the keyboards were essentially the same. Is that not the case?
I also like the keyboard and trackpad of air more
Is it worth upgrading from the M3 pro base to the M4 pro base ?
I noticed even the refurbished Macbook pro and airs got cheaper, so I wouldn't get a brand new one, the 16gb ram version of the 13inch macbook Air is going for $979 even cheaper than the M2 macbook air.
Buy nice or twice!
Yup
How could your all videos can play popup without UA-cam premium
Folks wished a bigger air display and it’s worth it but for the pro I still kinda feel 14.2 isn’t enough so we pay more for the 16 (the greatest ever) but expensive as hell
Can’t believe they’re still selling the M2 Air
and M1 to in Best Buy and Walmart
I really feel most people benefit with better performance by having more ram. Most people do not notice as much performance with the processor compared with SSD speeds and ram. The M2 Air looks to be a good deal and M3 if you can swing it.
Honestly I dont understand this two screen thing. My macbook air m3 works perfectly with several screens and I dont have to close the lid of m air. I am using docking station with a software called display link manager. My they solved this problem years ago. Dont know.
I bought the air thinking I could save money and I’m not a power user - kept freezing super annoying the throttling is super annoying too
I subbed because you put your goal out there and I like to see people achieve their goals! ESPECIALLY when those people add value to the world! Thanks for the video sir
This was critical in helping me make a decision to purchase the MACBOOK PRO M4
I'm also leaning towards the M4 pro an additional $200
Since it only comes with 24 gb ram I'm also considering upgrading to 1 terabyte of memory if additional memory is needed in use of memory intensive applications
But I would appreciate if you make a video on why to upgrade ram and memory
Hey Greg, Center Stage shouldn’t be a problem as it does use a 12MP sensor which is what’s needed for 4K
Get this guy to 400k!!!
Hard choice. I can get the mba M3 1TB/24GB for the same price as the MBP M4 512GB/16GB.
Still undecided. 🤔
M1 battery life v m4? Thx
MBP M1 13" still the king. But M4 got better than other 14" MBP
Yerp sure..the based model MacBook Air M2 and M3 with 16GB ram is even better value now!
What about the M2 Pro macbook pro? It's priced the same as this new one on the reburbished store
I can’t wait to get my M4 MacBookPro and I will be keeping it for 4+years
Thank you, was hoping someone would make the comparison.
I will never ever need a MacBook Pro. I like the OLED display and the 120hz, but that just doesn’t justify the huge price gap
Honestly I'd go air. The CPU performance jump won't be as worth is compared to 16gb/2tb or 24gb/1tb on the 13 inch M3 air, vs 16 1tb on the pro.
I just subscribed, I enjoyed the video (especially your energy)-rooting for you.
