I upgraded from a 15-inch Air with 16GB Unified to the base model MacBook Pro M4 base model, mainly for ports, mini-LED, 120hz, and a much brighter screen for outdoors. Having the fan is also nice for occasional intense tasks. I'd be lying if I said I don't miss the 15" Air and even consider switching back due to how slim and portable it was with a perfect display size. That laptop was so damn practical.
the air isn't any more portable. actually the pro weighs slightly less. really it comes down to display size vs all of what the pro gives over the air. i just don't think buying a speced up air makes sense unless you want the ultra portability of the 13 inch
I bought my first Mac (M3 MBA) earlier this year. The MBP was never even a serious consideration. I knew that there's nothing that I need the extra power for, nor do I need the extra ports. So why not go for thinner, lighter, and less expensive? There's really no downsides to the Air for me.

You might want to update this video, in multiple tech sites yesterday that Blur Busters' Ross Young showed that the M4 Macbook Pro display now uses Quantum Dot tech, and Apple had not said anything about it beforehand. This would explain the massive color improvement.
4:40 I feel like the M1 Air is still very useful for a large number of people. It can very easily handle office work. Microsoft office or heavy browsing is VERY easy for this laptop to handle. You can even run iMovies & do light video editing very comfortably. My partner uses this M1 air for her office work very comfortably. Save your money if you don’t care about heavy work.
people should really spring for the entry level pro, it's a great deal compared to the air, for 300 dollars more you are getting a markedly better processor in the m4 compared to m3, more ports, and a better display, m3 was gimped in some weird ways so people should just go for m4 macs in general over the m3 predecessors
I also bought the same exact deal at Costco. I was going to wait for the M4 to come out and still have doubts if I should have waited. What do you think of the performance?
Display size is a big factor for me. I wouldn't mind the extra power of the macbook pro, but would also prefer a larger size. The 14" is slightly larger than my current 13" which feels too small for most heavy work. I was excited about the 15" form factor in the air, but worried it's a bit underpowered. Ack. Wish you covered the size aspect a bit more in the video, but I guess I'll make a trip down to the Apple store to get a feel. Great video nonetheless! You've convinced me to consider the 14" MB pro a bit more.
I bought the M3 MPB 16/1TB on sale for $1,399. after a few days, I decided to exchange it for the M3 MacBook Air 16/256 for $899. I rather save $500 right now while I am learning a new skill with the MacBook. IF when my projects become too demanding causing my MacBook Air m3 to crash multiple times, I will just settle for a Mac mini M4. But for now, the M3 MacBook Air will suffice for my needs.

I use 13” m1 air which is not mine. For normal use it marwellous. Only problem i have is with audio production. As you add tracks and plugins, it gets hot and even though it’s really powerfull, you can max it out. Takes a helluwa lot to max it out, but can be done. Getting mbp is really waste of money unless you’re sure you need it.

I went with an entry level 14" m1 pro macbook pro over the macbook air back in 2020 just for watching youtube etc because the built in speakers are flipping AMAZING. Every day I enjoy the deep bass and spatial audio. Maybe the newer airs have better speakers, but at the time, it was an easy decision.
I bought soon to be a year ago the M1 MacBook Air from 2020 and I'm not sad about it! I watch videos on it and surf on the web with it and nothing more. Way better than the hp computer with windows 10 on that was slow and unsteady so the MBA M1 is like a power house in compairing between them.I love tech but my money is the key factor to what I can buy myself and soon I'm upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max from a 13 Pro Max so that will be fun to use also 🙂
Interesting, I have a fleet of 140 of these at work and haven't seen this issue. They may bog down a little due to memory swapping (8GB model) but they certainly don't freeze.
I was thinking weather I get the m4 MacBook Pro m3 MacBook Air or wait for the m4 MacBook Air. Well, I bought an m1 MacBook Air with 1tb ssd 16 gb ram and 8 core gpu, couldn't be happier, the machine is more than fast enough for video edition using Final Cut, and the fact that I added the thermal pads to the heatsink which maintain a lower temp, I'm able to drop my export time so that's cool. At this point I'm not longer on a rush and maybe wait another 2 years and get a redesign of the MacBook Air or pro. Update: I returned my M1 macbook Air and got a new M3 Air with 24gb ram 512gb ssd and 10 core GPU, they had a great deal on Amazon.
My girlfiend is a casual user who does a bit of 3D and plays Minecraft on the side. I’m a power user, do a lot of video editing and gaming. So I got her the 13 inch M3 Air 16GB 256GB (+ an external ssd), and myself the 14in M4 Pro (unbinned) 24GB 1TB. Both are awesome at their respective pricepoints.
I really want a MacBook but idk if they’re recommended for gaming. All I’d get it for is to play games on it that are like for a pc. But I’d also do other stuff on it like online shopping or important stuff too
I am a computer Engineering studen and i need to use Linux some times. So which model of MacBook will be a good choice for me? M3 air 15 inches or m4 pro base model. You can suggest me any model of MacBook
I am in the same dilemma. Most of my research uses linux but I like using Mac OS for everything else. So I do not see myself doing any heavy lifting on Mac. My resolution is to get the base macbook Air and a powerful linux desktop. I can use remote desktop or ssh into my linux machine from my Air whenever I am not home.
$500 for an M1 Macbook is actually a TERRIBLE deal for the following reasons: 1. A laptop is typically a long-term purchase for most people meaning a person will not upgrade until at least 5 years later and even then they might wait much longer if their laptop still works great. 2. Money isn't the only currency. TIME is a currency too. If you can save up $500 for a laptop, you can save up $1,000-$1,500 for a laptop. Most people finance their purchases. Even on a minimum wage job, a college student can save up an additional $400-$500 to combine it with the initial $500 so they DON'T have to buy an old M1 Macbook for $500. Zero point in paying $500 for an M1 Macbook especially if it comes with 8GB of RAM.
It's the ports, or rather lack of, with the Air that concerns myself. Not a high performance user, but my 9 y.o Mac can no longer handle Photoshop/Lightroom work so needing to look at something new
Not sure which 14 inch model I should get. I know for certain I want a pro and I tested it out and found the 14 to be the most comfortable. My usage case will be - GTA Vice City, Democracy 4 - Emulators like visual boy advance and Dolphin - Logic/Ableton I want to learn to make Trance EDM music and post it on Soundcloud. - some basic video editing to upload on UA-cam for fun. Nothing serious btw low end stuff m - Basic media consumption and general productivity. The 14 inch pro has the best form factor, speaker and battery life for me and I know for storage I'm probably looking at 2TB. My current MacBook is a 2015 MacBook pro I7 512GB 16GB of RAM. I'm in Canada btw. If I get the M4 model I'd get the top m4 and the following configurations -M4 10/10/16 -24 GB of RAM -2 TB of storage If I were to go for the M4 Pro I'd -2Tb of storage - Base processor -24 GB RAM Cost difference is $350 cad between the M4 pro and M4 option I'm looking at.
As you mentioned, its impossible to speak on all the deals or 3rd party resell (fb marketplace) BUT I saw someone in my local area selling a Macbook pro 16 inch M3 Pro for $1200!!! What an insane deal, despite probs needing to get an external storage device that horsepower alone would be hard to beat.. Id say look in your local market for people offloading really good deals and consider what you need. The M4 chip does offer some great options, but M2/M3 are reallllly good computers.
I have spent two years with the MBA M2 base model and it is great in many ways. Just bought a used M1 MBP in great condition and I love it. The weight difference is negligible, screen is amazing as well as the sound quality. Ports are great as well. I am very happy with the trade up for me at fairly low cost.
Please I need an advice of which MacBook I can get for work, I just finished/graduated from IT and I looking for a good MacBook to buy but I am confused on which I can get, please can you recommend for me thanks
I have a M2 Macbook Air Base Model. If there was a M4 MBA 32gb ram 1TB, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but there isn't. So unfortunately, I will be upgrading to a M4 MBP, 32gb 1TB
Just what I was looking for. Thank you. I have a 7+ year old MarBook Air (my second). I'm ready because it's not supporting new version 13. You mentioned M2 MacBook Air 16GB that can be found for as low as $800 ... Any suggestion on where that might be? :-)
Im looking to get the best valued MacBook for video editing. At the high end I will be editing 4K video. Should I be looking at the M4 base or is getting a max M1 a good idea? Over all what would recommend for the best valued video editing Mac in all the line up from M1 to M4? I don’t care about having the latest
Since you used the world "value" in there, which I take to mean getting the most for your budget, the base M4 is probably in the sweet spot for that. If money is no object and you want pure power, then yes, the M4 Max would clearly be the way to go.
I’m a realtor looking for something cost effective. I do download a lot of documents, I also use a CRM and make phone calls from my computer. Other than that I don’t do too much on it as I also have an iPad. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
My experience in the real estate world always emphasized looking successful. That rules out the M1 Air. If it was me I'd get either the M3 Air in 13" or 15". Should you wish to show a client something on the internet the 15" is considerably more comfortable for viewing from 2 to 3 feet away. Best wish!
I am in that mid grey area in deciding which is better for me. I’m mostly blind so the 15 inch might be better with 24 go ram but I do tend to multitask and don’t want it overheating without a fan. I usually always have UA-cam or a movie running in the background while I write and browse the web. Would an m3 be able to handle it? The only thing I’ve seen that I’d miss is the better audio in the pro and the fan. Any advice?
Pro M4 of course, because if you think you need 24 gigs of ram for the work you’ll be doing, then it means you’ll be doing intensive tasks more often on your laptop. And that sort of usage fits better with the pro line up because of existence of fans (to help cool down your laptop and avoid thermal throttle when youre doing demanding tasks), better battery life, better screen, better ports and of course better cpu performance. Rule of thumb is, if you think you need 24 gigs of ram, almost never go for the air (if you can afford 24gb ram for the pro).
I bought a Pro because the Air doesn’t come with an HDMI port and I need to give presentations. I don’t like dongles. What, you thought it had something to do with the processor?
Hi everyone! I'm an IT specialist based in Singapore, and I'm contemplating whether to get the MacBook Air M4 around spring next year or opt for the base model MacBook Pro M4. I plan to upgrade the storage capacity to 512GB, which puts the MacBook Air at approximately SGD 1,899 and the MacBook Pro at SGD 2,199-a $300 difference. I'm unsure if the additional cost is worth it, given the Pro offers a 10-core CPU/GPU, an extra port, and a better display. Considering my usage is primarily browser-related tasks, document processing, and some virtualization labs for work, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you think the upgrade is worth it for my needs?
if i were you i would just wait for the m4 air to drop and wait like 1-2 weeks there will be tons of video of the comparison between the m4 mbp and the m4 air. But the M4 base model for the mbp is so good this year it's insane. But just like i said just wait for the m4 air to drop and then look for videos comparing the m4 air with the m4 mbp
Good video! my frustration is that i have a perfectly good m1 2020 MacBook pro with 8 gig ram that works GREAT although there are 2 programs that really do alot of swap. I want to trade it in but not on an Air M3. I want to wait til the M4 comes out, but afraid I won't get anything for this one by then. Apple offers $415 for it now. Hard to predict if in 6 months or so they'll even take it in. What do you think? Hard to know, right?
Will the base m4 MacBook Pro last for years if I just use it for writing, web surfing, and just use the apps that are already on there? That’s the only decent Mac there is (16 gigs of ram and 512 storage) at the store I’m getting it at. The only m4 Mac mini they have is the 256 storage one. The MacBook Air is lacking ports and only has 8 gigs ram and 256 storage there. Will 16 gigs of ram last for years (7-9) if you just use the apps that are on there and keep the A.I. off? And do the batteries in MacBooks last for years?
My old Windows laptop is still going for 11 years in a row doing that basic stuff. I'm pretty sure the MacBook Pro is gonna do a much better job than that.

The MBP M4, on the other hand, is whisper quiet in comparison to that. You'll hear it, but only just.
Way better than the hp computer with windows 10 on that was slow and unsteady so the MBA M1 is like a power house in compairing between them.I love tech but my money is the key factor to what I can buy myself and soon I'm upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max from a 13 Pro Max so that will be fun to use also 🙂
475 pro model m1? Steal or no
macbook air m3 with 16gb of RAM on sale on Amazon for 850 dollars! Sold!
Just got one myself 5 minutes ago :)
With 16gb RAM?! That is an incredible deal!
With 256 gigs of storage?
i can't find it :( i only see the 8gb RAM one
@@angellll357it was just available until cyber Monday...
Thanks to this video I bought a MBP M4 on sale for 1400.
DO NOT BUY THE M2 MACBOOK AIR - I bought it literally 6 months ago and the base ram is too small it freezes all the time if there are >5 tabs open.
This is very true. I have the m2 air. Some sites are too heavy with a couple tabs open.
Interesting, I have a fleet of 140 of these at work and haven't seen this issue. They may bog down a little due to memory swapping (8GB model) but they certainly don't freeze.
Do you have the 8GB?
@@edgarp66 Do you have the 8GB version?
Have you taken it in to the Apple store to check that's it's not a faulty hardware issue?
Seems like the M2 MBA's with 16gb are running about $949 right now, not $799, most all of the ads have 8gb models.
This actually helped a ton! Thanks.
I really want a MacBook but idk if they’re recommended for gaming. All I’d get it for is to play games on it that are like for a pc. But I’d also do other stuff on it like online shopping or important stuff too
Excellent information in my shopping endeavor ... thanks!
Thankyou for the honest review.
I own a 15 inch MacBook Air m2 & it’s great 😌
I am a computer Engineering studen and i need to use Linux some times.
@@musandiaye9231 so what is your suggestion for me?
I wish review videos would include virtual machines considerations, obviously not numb, just 1 or 2
Best video I have watched so far and I could totally relate to your last statement of just wanting a new laptop and just buy and get over it 😅
$500 for an M1 Macbook is actually a TERRIBLE deal for the following reasons:
Zero point in paying $500 for an M1 Macbook especially if it comes with 8GB of RAM.
my gf has 1 with 16 gb of ram and runs her digital business off of it. just make sure it has 16gb and you'll be fine
It's the ports, or rather lack of, with the Air that concerns myself. Not a high performance user, but my 9 y.o Mac can no longer handle Photoshop/Lightroom work so needing to look at something new
this was helpful! thank you!
Hello. Please tell me which MacBook is better to buy, m4 or m3 Pro in basic configurations?
So, when can we get an M4 MacBook Pro 16”?
You know only the MacBook Air M3 can support 2 external monitors with the laptop closed.
Great video and explanation
Not sure which 14 inch model I should get. I know for certain I want a pro and I tested it out and found the 14 to be the most comfortable.
My usage case will be
- GTA Vice City, Democracy 4
- Emulators like visual boy advance and Dolphin
- Logic/Ableton I want to learn to make Trance EDM music and post it on Soundcloud.
- some basic video editing to upload on UA-cam for fun. Nothing serious btw low end stuff m
- Basic media consumption and general productivity.
The 14 inch pro has the best form factor, speaker and battery life for me and I know for storage I'm probably looking at 2TB. My current MacBook is a 2015 MacBook pro I7 512GB 16GB of RAM. I'm in Canada btw.
If I get the M4 model I'd get the top m4 and the following configurations
-M4 10/10/16
-24 GB of RAM
-2 TB of storage
If I were to go for the M4 Pro I'd
-2Tb of storage
- Base processor
-24 GB RAM
Cost difference is $350 cad between the M4 pro and M4 option I'm looking at.
Can we pleeeaaassseee go back to the days where students got the Air because there was no need for a Pro unless you were gaming and stuff
*The M4 MacBook Pro's display is Quantum Dot, not Mini LED.*
Bro it is still using mini led back lightning with local dimming.
It is a QDLED.
This a good video. It justifies my purchase of a m3 MacBook Air
I’m leaning towards 15 inch air or the base 14 MacBook Pro
Or just going Mac mini and 13 inch iPad Air
Please I need an advice of which MacBook I can get for work, I just finished/graduated from IT and I looking for a good MacBook to buy but I am confused on which I can get, please can you recommend for me thanks
I have a M2 Macbook Air Base Model. If there was a M4 MBA 32gb ram 1TB, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but there isn't. So unfortunately, I will be upgrading to a M4 MBP, 32gb 1TB
With all due respect M1 air even with 8gb ram fits the bill for music production, even video editing, professional.
This was really helpful
Just what I was looking for. Thank you. I have a 7+ year old MarBook Air (my second). I'm ready because it's not supporting new version 13. You mentioned M2 MacBook Air 16GB that can be found for as low as $800 ... Any suggestion on where that might be? :-)
when is the new macbook m4 rumored to come out?
Im looking to get the best valued MacBook for video editing. At the high end I will be editing 4K video. Should I be looking at the M4 base or is getting a max M1 a good idea? Over all what would recommend for the best valued video editing Mac in all the line up from M1 to M4? I don’t care about having the latest
m1 max has manyyyy more cores
Since you used the world "value" in there, which I take to mean getting the most for your budget, the base M4 is probably in the sweet spot for that.
If money is no object and you want pure power, then yes, the M4 Max would clearly be the way to go.
8:14 Is this right. I doubt the colour difference is that much.
What do you suggest for doing stuff dispatch and trucking for my job
I’m a realtor looking for something cost effective. I do download a lot of documents, I also use a CRM and make phone calls from my computer. Other than that I don’t do too much on it as I also have an iPad. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
My experience in the real estate world always emphasized looking successful. That rules out the M1 Air. If it was me I'd get either the M3 Air in 13" or 15". Should you wish to show a client something on the internet the 15" is considerably more comfortable for viewing from 2 to 3 feet away. Best wish!
M4 Macbook Pros now have Quantum Dots within their Mini LED LCD displays. 👍👍👍
Apple made zero mention of this FACT to the public.
Any advice?
I need the one with the SD card because I am a photographer and need the SD card....
Does anyone know whether the MacbookAir M4 will have the XDR screen and the better camera too?
I liked my own comment
Yes
I didn't.
@Beef5 :( Ima cry in my bed now
@@WYLNXCA oh I'm sure that's right.
*replies* same 😏
I'm still using a 2012 MB pro. Probably time for an upgrade...
hey i am using the 2012 also! its starting to get really slow and clunky 🤣
Air M3 24GB vs Pro M4 16GB Which one and why?
Pro M4 of course, because if you think you need 24 gigs of ram for the work you’ll be doing, then it means you’ll be doing intensive tasks more often on your laptop. And that sort of usage fits better with the pro line up because of existence of fans (to help cool down your laptop and avoid thermal throttle when youre doing demanding tasks), better battery life, better screen, better ports and of course better cpu performance.
Rule of thumb is, if you think you need 24 gigs of ram, almost never go for the air (if you can afford 24gb ram for the pro).
@@EhsanMahmood-kn8io I can't afford M4 Pro with 24gb, and I think 16gb is not enough for a device that I plan to keep for years
@@carloshkayser If you think you'd be fine with the fanless air for your use case, go for the air with 24 gigs of ram.
the m1 is still a powerhouse, especially compared to the entry-level M2 with the decreased ssd speed at the entry level
Great Video .. Love it
The tech-reviewer speech cadence affect is so grating. It’s like they’re all copying each other.
Great thanks for your help 👍
I bought a Pro because the Air doesn’t come with an HDMI port and I need to give presentations. I don’t like dongles. What, you thought it had something to do with the processor?
dongles are pretty usefull tbh. It best to get a dongle even for the mbp because u never know some day u might need extra usb c, ...
Thanks. İ just got a m3 with 24 Ram 512 ssd.
Good video! my frustration is that i have a perfectly good m1 2020 MacBook pro with 8 gig ram that works GREAT although there are 2 programs that really do alot of swap. I want to trade it in but not on an Air M3. I want to wait til the M4 comes out, but afraid I won't get anything for this one by then. Apple offers $415 for it now. Hard to predict if in 6 months or so they'll even take it in. What do you think? Hard to know, right?
what would you get? M4 32GB ram or M4 Pro 24GBram
Pro no doubt
Should focus more on product in the video ( less of you talking) more of the sizes of the laptops
Great video
No internal fan or with an internal fan.
In Norway The macbook pro m4 14 inch 16 gig costs about $2400 dollars while its $1600 dollars in the US💀
I’ll sell you one under that
