- House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 brought the heat this episode with all sorts of interactions as the characters prepare to avoid war while actively gearing up for it. Rhaenyra speaks to Alicent about the prophecy, Aemond Targaryen & Larys make plans without Aegon, Alicent has a fetal tummy ache, and Aegon makes a brash move in an attempt to counter Rhaenys and her dragon...who will win the Battle of Rook's Rest?

Thanks for feeding the Battermen!. I know this is not much but it is a contribution to the growth of the channel!! Keep making good content!
Christmas! THANK YOU...you certainly didn't need to do this. I appreciate you no matter what, but this is absolutely very cool of you.
Meleys is my favorite dragon and her rider was a fav of mine too. RIP Rhaenys and Meleys. Being a book reader I knew what was coming but still had tears in my eyes. Thanks for the vid :)
Meleys is an extremely cool dragon and one of my favorites, too. I mean Rhaenys is so freaking cool...I hate that she had to go, but it is what it is I suppose...Blacks are on the ropes!
I agree, I knew it was coming, but that was brutal to watch
Hey there, another good episode. Rook's Rest was a sad battle for the blacks, different from the book as far as Aegon and Aemond where there together from the beginning. 2 vs 1 went as it did, what an end for The Queen Who Never Was she went out in glory even though Rhaenyra should have never fallen for Cole's trap. Thank you, and see you on the next one.
P.S. Remember the shepherd that Aegon wanted to help but Otto stopped him, I think he will be back in next season for the locked dragons in the Dragon Pit vs people of King's Landing.
Hey there brotha! Thank you my man.
Very sad battle for the Blacks...definitely on the ropes right now. I think Rhaenys had a great showing, but unfortunately that fell apart of course.
That Shepard coming back in S3 sounds like a good idea to me...I'm down for it as a storyline. Storm that pit.
Whoa buddy….. Was waiting on this Recap! This was an hell of an episode!!! Aemond was trying to take out the king as well!? What a plot twist they are doing here! I am not mad at the direction they are taking Aemonds and Aegons relationship. It’s giving Sibling rivalry at its best! 😂 the way Vhagar just clamped down Meleys and crushed….sheesh! Beautifully done!Overall excellent episode!! Really impressed!!!!
WOAHH buddy yourself, Christmas! Hah.
It was a great episode. Aemond trying to kill the King twice is insane to me - he did not take the embarrassment at the brothel well at all. I love the change there.
They've made Aegon useless this whole time, so why not continue that I guess eh? My big issue is that I love the actor who plays Aegon, so I want him around as much as possible.
Great episode again...HOTD really gives me hope this universe can continue to grow and be good.
Aemond purposely burning aegon and the princess turning on blood lust had me stuck wide eyed
That was CRUEL stuff, wasn't it?! TWO TIMES HE TRIED TO KILL AEGON!?
@@TheBattProductions yea I had a hard time determining his intention on the second attempt, but him having extremely high level of senses I feel like he heard ser crispy
@@jucereyes6289 That's my guess. Otherwise I just don't know why he'd have the sword out.
@@TheBattProductions yea logic wanted me to believe he was still wary of battle but him being in beetle position about Jace accident was my nail in the coffin on the situation
i knew what was coming but the scene with Rhaenys was done so well i loved it while being heart broken
"...old people Rhaenyra clothes as a little Rhaenyra..." So...new Rhaenyra is older Rhaenyra? Also Milky Alcock is good in these scenes.
I dunno what Rhaenyra is what anymore at this point. The Alcock Rhaenyra vs. the D'arcy one I guess, hah.
@@TheBattProductions Loved your review.
@@caprenticus THANK YOU! I appreciate you.
I would be quite surprised if Larys doesn’t know High Valyrian. Given how much the Targaryens like to speak when they don’t want others to listen, learning it would be a must for him.
A little bit of revenge and is your brother attempting cold-blooded murder twice.
Finally we get to see the Muppet Tullys, Let's freaking go!!
How does a Dragon that huge sneak up and pop out the cut like that? Aemond camping with Vhager is not respectable haha. Also I’m curious about what the Dragons feel fighting each other, they used to ride together in harmony. Rhaenys was killed by her daughter’s dragon.
😂😂😂😂 NGL this is hilarious
I think it's all about timing and positioning ya know - but even if it doesn't totally make sense, I'm willing to let it because it speaks to Vhagar/Aemond's battle savviness.
I loved the scene between Alicent and Larys. That character is really getting great
8/10 very good episode but I kinda like the one in the books better where Cole had a very much calculated plan to outmaneuver Rhaenys and overwhelm her in a 2v1. Not complaining, just didn't like the idea of Aemond intentionally killing Aegon and Sunfyre, being one of team green's few formidable fighting dragons. I'm also wondering how the dynamics would be moving forward between Aemond and Aegon.
Loved the episode so! 8/10 for is a good rating for it. I don't mind the change since it works for the story really well.
Here's a really interesting What If...
What if Mysaria discovered Aemond's and Cole's plan for Rook's Rest and that King's Landing had no dragon guarding it? Rhaenyra could capture King's Landing and gain control of the scorpions that can harm Vhagar.
Great review as always! I've really enjoyed the show so far, but I definitely have mixed feelings about some of the changes they've made. IMO they've made certain characters far more likeable than they are in F&B, and some much less likeable. They way they've tweaked certain events is also... interesting to say the least. I just really hope they keep Aegon and Sunfyre's final scene from the book.
Yeah. Meleys and Rhaenys' death was one of the saddest scenes. Vhagar's size is really an advantage. Its powerful bite always kills its enemy. About Aemond, he is planning to kill Aegon because of anger. He was bullied since childhood by him. Also, he believed he is better than Aegon and maybe he wants the throne?
Absolutely agreed on all parts - the Throne thing is the one part that is difficult to ascertain because I don't know if he really has any mind for ruling but I think he just wants to prove he's better than Aegon.
And now my House of the Dragon ritual is complete. Bless you my Lord. May the Seven shine upon you
Bless you
Valar Doharis
The part that I was confused about was when Daemon met with Samwell Blackwood. Right before hand he's talking to Alys and she tells him to drink the cup and all the sudden he's in the meeting. Was that whole meeting a hallucination or was he actually there?
I know this episode was all about the dragon fight but my favorite part was Aemond given a whole speech in High Valyrian meanwhile Aegon had a hard time saying a sentence
That's an excellent scene. So many times Aemond just owns Aegon in this scene and it's unfortunate for him...
Poor Aegon can't ever catch a break!
@@TheBattProductions I guess you can say Aemond roasted Aegon twice this episode 😎
Aegon is in a box, because they want to hide to the common folk how burn Aegon really is, he could do a two face cosplay, he also permanently cripple, bedridden, I not known if conscious or not, but it would take a full year to him recover some of his sanity.
I knew what was coming in this episode from the book, but it still felt like such a gut punch when it actually happened. RIP to The Red Queen & The Queen Who Never Was. Another great episode of the show, which has been next level this season. And as always, I looked forward to and enjoyed your review of the episode. Love watching your content.
That's the key - it hurts so much to see it play out with some of the creative liberty they can take extrapolating from the book. Like the book couldn't tell you about the look Meleys/Rhaenys shared...the drama...the intentional attempt at murder...it was so wonderful.
I always look forward to your comments about the episode - I love it. Always very insightful and makes ME think all the time, Hannah!
Aemond Targaryen is my favorite character. Has been since season 1 episode 7.
It's hard not to like him just for his pure badassery, but he just killed a character many *loved* and their awesome dragon, so he's getting to scary territory.
Also I love Aegon II's actor so with him being dead/out of commission, that saddens me!
If you watch carefully, Aemond was not trying to kill Aegon when he was down. He was in fact already starting to sheath his sword but when Cole spoke it made him pause before finishing. Did look like he was going after Aegon until the rewatch.
Not convinced....Aemond tried to take his bro out once already.....
i noticed on first watch! He was putting his sword away and everyone is saying he was pulling it out😂
@@gregnagy7569 Oh I think he would still love to see him dead but just noted that after a second watch you can tell he wasn't doing it there or perhaps he realized he didn't need to. :)
@@makaylalashe4730 You're better than we were and there were a few of us watching😇 .. good eyes
Yeah I'm not convinced by that, hah. At first glance I thought he was sheathing ahead of time too, but why even have the sword out if you're not going to kill right? It was just Sunfyre and Aegon!
😢 my favorite dragon and my favorite character, you're right Kevin, she is the boss😢😢😢😢
Rhanyra is a bit dumb to go to kings landing and not naming Corlys or someone hand of the queen, most of the counsellors are running amok in her absense. Also that talk abt caution is getting on my nerves. The shows direction to show her as a collected leader is weird to me and a bit of a change from the source material makes the green v black conflict so one sided and imbalanced. Felt bad for Aegon, i think they prolonged the smaller scenes when they should've prolonged the fight, especially daemons visions, we get it, hes confronting stuff, weve seen it, and the dialogue between larys ans alicent was redundant too. That shot of the 2 dragons was really cool. Cant wait for aemond to be king in place next episode. Also that mini confirmation abt Alyn of Hull.. overall the battle was pretty cool but I wouldve liked to see more intensity and build up in the scene.
I agree with Rhaenyra not being good as communicating her needs to her council and taking care of it. But I wonder if that's part of the deal that she really just didn't want anyone to know she was going.
Loved the dragon fight and I can't wait to see more of it in the future!
It was a brilliant episode, how cute was Sunfyre's boop on Aegon?!
Not cute.....shit writing.
Totally brilliant episode...Sunfyre's boop was really fun to see because it's one of the few times someone has looked at Aegon with joy. And that is unfortunate since I love Aegon's tragic character.
he was sheething his sword before cole even yelled at him, he just had his sword out on the battlefield
But why would he have it out just casually? There was no one around or anything (other than Aegon and Sunfyre). He didn't have it out when he was on dragonback, so that tells me dude had some *intentions*
@@TheBattProductions i think they left it up for interpretation because fans of aemond like me have a chance to defend him by saying that it was a battlefield and anything COULD happen even if there was nobody in sight, any man on the blacks would do anything for the glory of killing a dragon rider.
while at the same time obviously showing that he could’ve went over to aegon to kill him and put him out of his misery AND ascend to being what he truly believes he should be….THE KING
Yeah I was wondering why Aemond had his sword out at the end cause the battle was over there were no more enemies. Was he just being cautious? But yeah it does make sense that he wanted to kill his brother and stopped when witnesses approached.
It’s kind of the same thing with Lucerys where them getting hurt wasn’t his plan but he just needs to make the best out of the situation. He did not trying holding back Vhaegar this time.
Great review! The episode was amazing.
THANK YOU!
I loved the episode...this show can do no wrong to me and I FREAKING LOVE IT
this show is so great
aside sir cole not getting heat by murdering a guest on a feast and the dark eyebrows/white wigs this show is perfect
Great episode
Absolutely brilliant
Amazing episode! I'm glad you also liked it my friend!
And this way dies Rhaenys, the queen who never was, daughter of Prince Aemon of Dragonstone, granddaughter of King Jaehaerys the Conciliator, rider of Meleys. Both powerful and wise. Between her and Corlys, Westeros could have been a new Valyria.
Guessing if Alys Rivers is playing both sides, Black and Greens.
And: Do you think two dragons could have beaten Vhagar? For example, Meleys and Syrax or Vermax?
The saddening loss of Rhaenys and Meleys...my sadness grows.
I think Meleys and Caraxes could've beaten Vhagar, yes. Meleys and Syrax though? eh I'm not so sure.
If I were King, only my heir could choose a dragon larger than, let's say, Moondancer. It's like allowing private citizens to have an atomic bomb!
@@danielsilva-duarte571 Hah - Sadly it isn't always that easy!
As soon as the episode finished airing I was waiting for your video, seems like I'm in 11th grade again in 2017 waiting for Got to air and watching your review and what if content 😢😢😢 miss those days
IT WAS SO GOOD WASN'T IT?!?!
I'm sorry my video isn't uploaded faster - I will tell you I genuinely start filming IMMEDIATELY after the episode and don't stop until it's finished. I don't know how other people beat me at times!
I'm so freaking happy to hear that you enjoyed the episode AND you wanted to hear about my review...what did you take away from it the most?!
@@TheBattProductions not much change in battling strategies from game of thrones.. So Lords followed the same methods throughout this time, no wonder everyone was surprised by the out of the box strategies of Robb Stark
2:26 Interesting he uses all of the 3 Fs...
Kingdom: descending into war
Damon: tripping balls
Damon *FLED* from his problems as King's Landing and essentially continues to run from them by remaining in Harrenhal.
Fled, Fight, Fugg
The Daemon Targaryen way!
Well Aemond wasn’t supposed to be there but it worked!!!
He was supposed to be there Kim!
This episode was the first to give me major feels the way GOT early seasons used to. 😢 Meleys and Rhaenys, won't lie tears were shed here.
This episode made me pretty sad...I mean that look at Meleys and Rhaenys...I was BOTHERED
If they played the Stark music over Rhaenys falling to the earth...I would've shed a tear. No question.
Seems like it's moving to fast
Super, super fast.
Vhegar is like an ac 130 that no other dragon wants to face . But give meleys credit for taking him off balance temporarily sending him to the ground . Epic dragon fight and that aegon / Alicent scene was priceless
Absolutely. No single dragon should face off against Vhagar at this rate (other than maybe Vermithor)
Still, meleys prowess was so awesome.
@@TheBattProductions what about cannibal? is cannibal the same size of Vhegar or smaller?
I’m not gonna lie….I cried
RIP to the Queen that should have been ❤️😥
Really really great episode!
I'm so distraught this morning. RIP to the Red Queen and the Queen Who Never Was.
What was your favorite part?!
Watch out, a basketball court sized dragon, might come out of no place, and bite
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hah - I mean things move fast bro!
@@TheBattProductions lazy writing, moves faster
@@bosco6487 I don't know if it's lazy really. Can't complicate that death too much. Just a bunch of dragons slashing at each other.
@@TheBattProductions they don't understand ariel combat, so they went with a jump scare again with the largest dragon ever, 7 shot to establish the dragon is slow just for him to come out of no place
I really loved the dragon fight
The dragon fight was so cool, wasn't it?!?!
I love dialogue way more than dragon fights, but mannn I do love me a good dragon fight.
You skipped over one of the Tullys. You mentioned Grover, Elmo and Oscar, but where’s the love for Oscar’s older brother Kermit? 🤣🤣
The dragon fight was absolutely fantastic! Although knowing it was coming, didn’t make it any easier to lose Rhaenys and Meleys. 🥺
Not exactly how I pictured it when reading the book but so many nice touches. One of my favorites just from the first watch is that there’s multiple points in the book where it talks about dragons smoking from open wounds, and you can see that smoke coming out of Sunfyre as he’s falling. Poor Sunfyre; he deserves better than Aegon
OH HOW COULD I FORGET KERMIT. F***. You're right! I just named them from the top of my head and SOMEHOW forgot KERMIT!
Exactly - knowing it was coming didn't save it for me at all. I was still very sad to see Rhaenys/Meleys lose and it hurt!
I love that the show fleshes out the barebones from the book in a way that couldn't be accounted for. Makes it so good.
Sunfyre was just a baby! And Aegon...well-intentioned idiot. I feel bad for him a bit.
Aemond MVP
DEFINITELY MVP of the battle.
TEAM VHAGAR AND AEMOND ALL THE WAY🐉🔥💚
You're team EVILLLLLLLLLL
@@TheBattProductions i prefer the term spicy but i’ll take what i can get 😭
Hockey reference for the win!
I love hockey! I played for a long time, so I'm happy to throw in a hockey reference any time I can.
@TheBattProductions I played in high-school :) not very well but it was fun
@@stephaniec9539 What position did you play?
@@TheBattProductions right/left wing :) and you?
I loved it, last weeks episode I felt was too much plot armour at the Kings Landing trip. The Battle scene was epic and I usually don’t like the battles in GoT
Really!? You don't normally love battles in GOT? I'm shocked!
BUT it was excellent as you said, so I'm very happy you liked this one. It was so good and we're getting things seriously moving!.
@@TheBattProductions the first seasons the battles happened off screen. The battles in the last seasons were all about plot armer, they were lacking military strategy. We never had two dragons fighting in a battle before.
@@saltnessmonster Except for Blackwater Bay of course!
Sure, I'm with you on the later season ones but hey I don't mind a little plot armor.
19:20 it's possible that dragons are somewhat resistant to dragonfire, also in Sothoryos there are wyverns which are just like dragons but don't breathe fire, but could be more ferocious in clawing and grappling etc this could be a reason why the valyrians didn't delve too deep into Sothoryos other than all the other nasty stuff and a sh*t hole that place is
For sure - I think the clutching and grabbing makes the most sense by far. The fire against dragons doesn't seem quite as important. I love that we saw it this way because it's how I imagined it (less dragon fire, more clawing).
Dude your awesomem. Did Aemond want to be king or just put another person on the throne or try to kll Aegon and seek peace. Best episode so far!
No dude, YOU are awesome. Thanks man!
I think Aemond probably doesn't want to be King per say, but I think he just wants to show everyone that he's the better brother and has been the better one for a long time. I do think he's like a dog chasing cars though where if he became King, he'd be totally clueless.
In episode 1, Daemon told Rhaenys that they should jump Vhagar now look what happened.
Daemon was right, per usual!
Meleys and Caraxes together could've taken Vhagar down I think.
Sorry I’m late. I hope you’re well. Great episode, but I’m starting to hate this Daemon storyline. It’s going on too long. They’re making him look like an idiot. I’m all for a redemption arc but he’s basically filler at this point. He’s supposed to be fighting, indispensable.
Vanessa!

Yes yes yes
Was Alicent have a abortion necessary for the plot😐
Not necessary for the plot, but I think it's relevant for her character. She's so self-righteous about everything - including Rhaenyra's BASTARD children - yet she was about to have one herself.
