I worked with a guy who was in his 70s when this came out and he LOVED it. He said it reminded him of when he lived in St. Croix and musicians would play whilst walking down the streets. He'd jam whenever it came on.

I used to DJ back in the late 90's/early 00's and I had a banging remix of we like to party, it used to fit in well at the start of my hard house sets!! Don't worry, I got right back into the guitar and good ole rock n' roll with the advent of trance music! I was off my nut at the custard factory in Birmingham having a great time when all of a sudden this trance tune came on, made me feel like I was at the funeral of house music and put me on such a downer that I left 3 hours early and sat in the car on my own and finished off my biscuits! That was a bit of a tangent!
My fav is the scene in the war documentary “Restrepo” where the guys are all dancing to Gunther and Samantha Fox singing “Touch Me” (We used to slam dance in Wales in the guard shack during the Libyan Crisis)

The thing about the Vengaboys is that if you split their songs into Choruses, verses, and instrumental bits, they’re all basically interchangeable with each other which makes them wonderful to DJ with from personal experience.
This song made me wince in ways few other songs could achieve. But after watching this and hearing Justin talk with so much passion for the Vengabus...I'm desperately trying to find my Oyster card so I can jump on.

I never thought that I'd spend an evening watching a professional musician trying to deconstruct a Vengaboys song on an acoustic guitar. I'm beginning to question my life choices (and also the output of TV broadcasters).
No need to apologise, I love this song. It was interesting watching this video after the August Is Falling one from a few days ago. In that Justin was talking about how the band tap into universal themes by making their subject ultra-local, singing about something that happened in their hometown; it transcends geography because the listener can relate to negative or heartbroken feelings wherever they are in the world. This is the same but with happiness instead (just around the corner!) because the beauty of the Vengabus is that it can seemingly turn up anywhere on Earth at any time, just like joy.

I actually happened to discover your channel when i was very sick not too long ago, and bc i suffer from an immune disease that gives me chronic pain, your channel was a blessing to discover and watch while i was hurting and needed something to make me smile and even laugh through my hard times. Today, as i watch this, and hear you talk about how happiness could be around the corner if you just hang in there, i think of those days i was sick and how right you are, now that im back on my feet. When I was in the US military and when stationed in Kuwait I watched a lot of MTV UK and other music video stations. I was hooked with their first single 'Up and Down'. When I was finally sent back to the states I still remember the look on the face of the airport record store cashier in Ireland or England (forget where had a change over) when I bought the Vengaboys , The Wildhearts 'Endless Nameless', and the All Saints self-titled. Mind you was wearing some death metal related shirt (think it may have been an Earache label shirt) and the customary US military haircut.

Justin, you are too fun! Thanks for covering this blast-from-the-past. Growing up, I lived on music videos. I remember this and Boom Boom Boom Boom playing constantly on a particular channel (The Box - anyone remember?) when I was probably around 10!
After arriving for a year-long high school exchange in Japan, about 300 students from around the world were in dormitories together on the edge of Tokyo. One room was about 30 boys on tatami floors, and as I woke around 3am to use the restroom, an Australian friend's computer started playing Vengaboys. Apparently most students were either too fast asleep from all the travel, or just didn't want to say anything, but I asked him about it before breakfast. He completely denied it while it was definitely from his computer, the only device that was in the sleeping area (this was early 2005 so no one had phones that could play full-quality music). I was like "Dude, I don't get why you're denying it!... It's kinda funny, but even as a metalhead I honestly love that music too!" XD

One of the (many) things I love about this channel is Justin's love of all genre's of music. Having myself initially been a Venga Skeptic, I had a epiphany when somebody sold me a bunch of CD' sand there was a Nick Skitz Vengaboys mega-mix on the end of a Venga CD. 'This,' I declared '...will be hilarious'. But lo, moments later I found myself dancing like a lunatic as 123 merged in We Like To Party into Vengabus, then smashes into Up & Down then Boom Boom Boom, We Like To Party, Going To Ibiza... I was helpless to resist like a dazzled rat following the Pied Piper of Hamlet right over the cliff onto the roof of the Vengabus.

Ha! While on tour in “Europe,” I had the distinct pleasure of playing to a crowd of six people (four of whom were staff) at the Adelphi. There was a snowstorm, the opening band cancelled, and I broke a string mid-set. That said, I’ll always be grateful to the city for giving us the Housemartins.
