      I bought a blue one two months ago. Other than the lack of exhaust note - I fucking love the car. Definitely will be getting an aftermarket exhaust though.
      How you like the shifter? My single favorite feature. Its one of the best shifters I've ever personally used.

      Dislikes the new Camaro that has an ACTUAL functional front end (which is fair). But then says “Everything on this car, visually, is functional” bahahaha yupp those massive closed vents front and back are totally functional dude 😂😂😂😂

    Honda has always been about quiet cars, even the nsx is quiet. They are just a little more reserved than us americans lol That's why we make all the loud aftermarket exhausts. They still appreciate the sounds though, for example in my 9th gen SI they somehow got some of the engine sound to go thru the cabin vents. It's still kinda quiet but it sounds real good with the windows up. Pretty smart system if you ask me.

    I got mine a couple of months ago, and I honestly have to place this as the best car I've ever driven. Don't mind it is front wheel drive because you can always upgrade it to perform, and I don't mind the muffled exhaust, I enjoy driving and getting compliments everywhere I go. Type R for the Win

    Test drove one the other day and INSTANTLY fell in love, but I personally just get can’t over how “busy” the car looks. Great car nonetheless.

    Thank you for your video, you describe the Type R excellently and with enthusiasm. I have mine in blue and I've got to say it lives up to the hype. A very difficult car to find fault with. When you aren't going nuts and having fun in it, it's sedate and tame for the trip to the grocery store. Loads of room all round for passengers and luggage. So nuts when you are in the mood and a great family car too.

    I feel that 2018 was the perfect place for Honda to bring their Performance model to America, as with Ford with their Focus RS, and Volkswagen with their Golf R. While the Type R is still a FWD, which is perfect that Honda stuck with their history, however like everyone else they went Turbocharged, and when paired along with Honda's amazing VTEC system, it makes an amazing performance model to compare with today's Hatches. So i believe Honda did an amazing thing making us wait for another Type R model, and i absolutely love this car

      IMO this car is 10 years to late. Nowadays for me I’m older and would rather have a mustang gt, camaro ss, srt charger, even Kia stinger, ats v, etc. CTR is a great car, just not for me anymore.

    I live in Missouri and just picked one up in a snowstorm nothing to crazy but I had them put on winter Pirelli's and it was fantastic in the snow. Next week was 70 degrees so I took it for a little rip and it handles the backroads like it's on rails blast to drive now I have 320 miles and no regrets on the purchase best 40k W/tires and rim protection rubber band tires. Yep Love it

    I just passed 10K miles on my Type R. I share the same sentiment, too quiet. I even did a muffler delete and its still extremely quiet. But that is the only real negative I have with the car so far. Going to get Hondata Tune at some point which might make more issues show up with the increase in power. Great review!

      I'm in the ktuner now with no issues, so I doubt hondata will give you problems. 360whp and 400wtq is SO much fun in these cars. I got a cat less downpipe and it woke the sound up a lot.

    • @steveazyb2595

      Turbos do that unfortunately bud, dampens the exhaust.

    • @johnd9357
      @johnd9357 6 років тому +1

      StevEazyB it’s actually loud as hell without the cat. The turbo doesn’t really dampen the noise that much. My Type R sounds amazing after getting a catless DP.

    I am very glad it is still FWD, Honda engineered an amazing front suspension assembly along with a great differential. In my personal opinion, the civic is more pure with FWD than AWD. The new civic doesn’t need all wheel drive. However, although the styling is for function (which is very important in my view), I do hope the next type R civic gets a redesign. :)

    • @NOORYOUNIS
      @NOORYOUNIS 3 роки тому

      I know what your saying and I agree, but I still would’ve liked mine to be awd

  • @johnc2820
    @johnc2820 6 років тому

    I bought it. Coming up on 4k miles as a daily driver. Not one minute do I regret the purchase. I’m selfish and I do what I like and this car is perfect for that. Drives like a civic in comfort mode and if I want to type r mode through the mountain passes it’s always ready. Gets more attention then I like but worth it. Not trying to be faster or cooler, I just want to enjoy my driving experience and this car does it all. On ramps are always fun and you don’t have to back off like a rear wheel drive. Raced an Audi 3 hatch and the new WRX built up and had no issues staying in front completely stock. Feels good to win a battle you did not pick. I’m not loyal, I was going to buy whatever made me happy and honda was not even on my list when I was shopping. I got lucky and stumbled into fun before I spent the same money on a used luxury car.

    the 8th gen si was the last remarkable car honda made before this type r. The k20z3 is an incredible motor. 100hp/liter and a bonkers 8000 rpm redline stock (with many tunes getting it up to 9000)

    Been lusting to review one myself for quite some time. Glad you got to sample it!
    I must admit I am missing that n/a VTEC sound. And man, it's quiet. It's the same gripe I had with the hatchback sport. You get those nice twin pipes out the back on that one, but again no sound. Under the radar yes, but with looks like that you need just a hint of obnoxious to go with it.

    A close buddy of mine owns the FK8 Type R and I've rode in it a bunch of times. Definitely a great car! People hate so much just because it is front wheel drive but it really does not feel like one and grips corners great!

    Too bad dealers have marked these cars up. Had to settle for an Accord with the detuned Civic Type R motor. My last Honda was a 2006 S2000. I also owned a 2002 S2000 as well.

    • @Synysterjmz
      @Synysterjmz 6 років тому +1

      Ricardo Rivera it is indeed. The FK2 was essentially a prototype for the FK8 and the only real difference is the independent suspension setup on the 10th gen platform over the torsion beam in the older car.

    • @steveazyb2595
      @steveazyb2595 6 років тому +1

      Synysterjmz Sounds silly but I prefer the setup in the Fk2, feels more agile in corners to me, actually I prefer everything in the fk2 over the fk8.

      @Synysterjmz 6 років тому +2

      StevEazyB I do as well. I've been tempted to trade mine in, but I just can't get past the looks. I know the FK2 is equally offensive to look at, but the filled in vents and fake carbon are just too much for me :P

    Mustangs and Civics are my favorite cars. I currently drive a Mustang GT. The 2009 Si sedan I had was amazing. Like the video said it was so easy to drive super fast. It handled so good. Stopped on a dime. Visibility almost perfect. The Si was like Super Mario Kart. The Mustang even with the track package feels like driving a tank compared to the Si Civic

    I deliberated long and hard over: Type R or Tesla Model 3,..finally opting for the Type R, mainly due to Honda reliability/durability, and I really love the looks, both inside and out. The Model 3 is also pretty on the outside,..but the interior looks so spartan, especially the minimalist dash. The Type R's interior is rich, adventuresome, personalized, totally unique. Well, after 6k miles, it's been a great daily driver, a soccer mom car, and boy is it FUN!

    Best car I've ever owned, most fun to drive, and I've owned Alfas & a 911. Precise, composed, and if you want to go batbleep, it's right there with you. PLUS, 25-30 mpg in everyday use, 30-35 on highway trips, don't have to worry about it breaking down every 20 minutes. I couldn't care less about the lack of "noise"- makes the "other guy" wonder even more....

    Motortrend just released a comparison. The type R beat the RS , golf R and STI RA on the track lol.
    www.motortrend.com/cars/honda/civic/2018/ford-focus-rs-honda-civic-type-r-volkswagen-golf-r-subaru-wrx-sti-type-ra-comparison/
    the uncivil Civic accelerated from 0 to 60 in 5.0 seconds and finished the quarter in 13.7 seconds at 105.9 mph, second to the Ford. Even more impressive is the Type R’s acceleration numbers after 60 mph; from 0 to 70 through 100 mph, the Type R was the quickest car of the group. The Honda stopped shorter than any other car in our test, too, needing 99 feet to
    stop from 60 mph, and it tied the Focus RS’ 24.3-second figure-eight lap and its 0.79 g average.

    • @neovenom9833
      @neovenom9833 6 років тому

      Let them do that again when the track is wet. the EUDM GEN2 Focus RS was also faster in the dry than the Evo and STI a decade ago. Difference with the new type R, that Gen II Focus RS was faster on a lot of tracks, not just one just to spin the odd in favour of the Honda Fanboys.
      I like the Type R a lot, but the price is ridiculous today. not to mention the sloppy finish of some parts like the parking sensors that are not there but look like they are because the trim is unchanged.

    • @Fadic4
      @Fadic4 6 років тому +5

      Neo VeNoM why are you talking about stuff from a decade ago?
      lol. Another channel on UA-cam tested the same cars and the type r won again... It's lighter. It's power to weight ratio is better than the RS and STI. And you're seriously going to talk shit about the parking sensors not being there when ford was installing the wrong headgasts on the RS. What a joke you ford fangirls are. Let's also forget about the overheating rear differential which pretty much leaves the focus a fwd car when the awd system is used too much.
      Good thing that the majority of people that do track days are in state where the weather is usually dry...
      The only reason id get the RS over the type r is if I lived in a heavily snow region. Other than that winter tires with the LSD are more than adequate for most people.
      The focus is getting discontinued in North America anyways because of how shity Ford cars are as daily drivers.

    It's an astounding car. Focusing on the controls, the clutch is so intuitive, the brakes will take you from very fast to stop without weaving and the accelerator encourages you to keep the revs up but will do remarkable things lower down the rev range. I love the looks. Who wants a dull car? Kids literally point and say wow. If that's a turn off for you, never be a parent. The steering is just spot on. It won't correct for idiocy (well it will, there will be understeer and a Honda rep will come round and smack you), but it rewards tact in a most encouraging way. It's comfy, the satnav is a bit sluggish but better than many. I can use it around town and it just defaults to a normal road car. For 35k it's just astounding (link back to start of review :) )

      Bradley Cazzell Yeah, I agree with the comments about the looks/design. So what did you hate about the Type R? The exterior looks was one thing it immediately got flak for, but was the inside cheap or something? Performance not as good as you wanted, etc.?

      @bradleycazzell6225 6 років тому

      GETUP AND GO The build quality wasn't up to what they were charging. Looking closely at mine, I found that there was trim that was unaligned with the rest of the car. Plus hearing owners complaining about 1st and 2nd gear crunch made me worry. But nothing made me more worried than hearing about the overheating issues. I just didn't want to drive mine anymore because it was a stress bomb. It wasn't enjoyable to drive anymore.

    I love the car. Unlike haters, i can see why the type r is so good. Its a fwd, 306 hp car thats going up against awd cars with about the same hp or more and beating them all. Its real challenge is the focus rs. Depending on the track, the type r could lose to it. Either way, on the nurburgring, type r is WAY faster than all of its awd competitiors. This isnt bias. This is just looking at the truth instead of hating. Honda finally did it. Great job!

    I still can't get over the outside look. I owned a 2007 Civic Si Sedan, and I still think to this day, that was the best looking civic sedan. The k20a engine was such a joy and I liked the instrument panel gauges more. I'm not a fan of all digital (at least not yet). I like my analog gauges and my Si gave me an awesome looking analog tachometer which was enough for me since the Speedo was only digital readout. I still wish I never traded my Si in as soon as I did. The type R interior does look nice. While a lot of things outside were designed for a purpose, I know there are too many non functional design cues outside as well. I also don't like the tire set up with the rubber band sidewalls. Would I ever have considered buying one, maybe if I were 10 years younger, but probably won't ever consider one unless I need a fun daily driver and find a used one with a decent price.

If it was toned down a little I'd like it more. Performance wise I think it's a great car but for the price that it's going for I would rather have a Focus RS which in comparison tests has outperformed the Type R. And also it isn't as extreme looking as the Type R. I guess the Type R is just more appealing to the younger generation. That being said, I do have a Focus ST which I am happy with.

    Then you also have to remember the type-r might get 8-10k out of those performance tires if you're lucky before the expensive replacement comes time.
