The mountain bike dropper post...introduced back in the early 2000's, the dropper post took awhile to get mainstream appeal. I can't tell you how many times that people said I was stupid for riding one and it was completely unneeded. Fast forward to today...it is hard to find a bike for sale that doesn't already have one on the build. So why did the dropper post finally gain in popularity? There are 5 strong reasons that the dropper post makes you a better mountain biker and we are covering that as well as the common complaints today.

The dropper post is the best modern invention in biking period. I feel like this should be on all kinds of bikes. I LOVE my dropper post!

I'll be that "old guy" who remembers using the Hite-Rite add-on, the original 'dropper post'. Got to where I would use the seatpost quick release while riding to adjust down, and back up. yeah, it was limited to... 3 inches? But for the early 90s, that was amazing. And for use on a full rigid bike, still made plenty of difference. If not more than on a full sus.

Couldn't agree more. Next year will mark 20yr for me on droppers. I think the original gravity dropper I had was only 75mm.

They have come a long way since the Gravity Dropper days! Everyone used to ask me if it was a suspension seat post on a dual suspension bike.

My eyes were opened when I (tried) a pump track on a bike with rigid post. Couldn’t do it. Not enough range of motion to get the power to make it around the course without pedaling.

I totally agree. The massive advantages of having a dropper post far outweigh any of those excuses not to have one.

100%! I bet making this video about 5 years ago would have gotten a lot different response most likely from a lot of people.

@@Bike198 I added a dropper post in 2010 to a Jamis Parker I had. I knew right then it was an absolute game changer. As a BMX rider one thing I always hated about mountain biking was having to deal with the seat being in the way all the time. I always had it set a little lower than ideal for pedalling just to have it somewhat out of the way. I also rode mostly singlespeed in the 2000s and I think I got away with it because I would stand to pedal up hills and such most of the time. So yeah, the dropper was a dream come true!!!
