I hit some loose gravel today and quickly and intuitively caught myself with my foot.
My friend with clips hit the deck hard on a similar section.
I like the quick bail feature of flats

honestly, from what ive experienced. I use flat pedals for fun, and clips for racing, and for training.
I can see doing the same. I don't race like I used to these days.
Flats are the only pedals for me even on my Fat Farley Road Bike.
I am 95% flats these days.
Been Cycling for 35 year's, and have rode clipless since they have been available. Tried flats for a couple of years, but because of bad circulation in my legs, it wasn't good to get hit with the pins
That makes sense. I have to watch out for that for the same reasons as well.
35 yrs on (in) clipless as well, but I do use flats on my fat tire bike in the Winter. And pins DO 😡hurt😡
My last comment was deleted, i guess. I love my eggbeaters, but for tooling around I use Pub Pedals. They clip on to eggbeaters, providing a flat pedal for non serious riding.
Yeah I am not sure what happened there. I didn’t delete it. I have used Egg Beaters in the past as well.

Ride flat!!! And all you need is one, one speed. All my road bikes and MTBs are single speed. Simplicity rules.
There is something special about a single speed.
