      This is unrelated to the video but I have been riding dirtbikes for 4 years now and riding my yamaha r3 for 1 year and I'm looking into getting a upgrade. I wanna do track days but also it will be my commuter. I live in a rural area so most my riding is in the twisties aswell. I'm looking at the rs660 and the zx6r. What do you think would be best for me? And what would you pick if it was your only bike?

    I bought one Duke 690 of the last series, the more reliable one, with 7.000 kilometres for a bit more than 4.000 euros and I just used it in a 4.200 kilometres round trip to a heavy metal festival in Belgium and it was perfect, fast, very fast in twisties, and very frugal, 4 litres for 100 kilometres average at a 100 km/h average speed on all kinds of roads. And loaded with more luggage than I carry on my humongous Victory Vision.
    It's really a blast and it brings me half a century back... :-)

      A great substitute would be the the FZ6R. Yamaha made them after the fz6 and they ran from 2009 to 2016. Has a tuned for the streets, 2006 R6 engine, with great mid range power and solid top end. It was my 1st bike and I rode it for 10 years over 58,300 miles with ZERO issues. Super fun reliable bike

    50-year-old UK viewer here. Recently passed my Direct Access course and upgraded from a 2006 Yamaha YBR 125 to a 2008 Yamaha FZ6 naked S2. God's holy trousers! I've found she's really well behaved under 4000 RPM, but over that, she starts to get a bit frisky. I've yet to acquire the testicular fortitude required to take her over 8500 LOL! Think she's gonna keep me busy for quite a while =)

    Not my first bike, but my first bike after taking 20 years off from riding was a BMW F650GS. Loved it! Commute to work, check. Need a case of beer…it fits in the saddle bag. Picked up a 2010 BMW F650GS with 21,000 for $4000. It's a more off roady BMW twin cylinder 800cc fuel injected ABS equipped version of the G650. The seller threw in a Klim jacket, a comm system, soft bags and 2 helmets. I sold the jacket and comm system for $600 bringing the price down to $3400. It's light, nimble and smooth with more than enough power. Even the electronics still work.

    I bought a 2011 KLR 650 after being away from riding for almost 30 years. I quickly learned that the brakes and suspension on the thing were utter garbage and I lost no time replacing all at my own expense.Also had the Eagle Mike balance chain adjuster - aka "Doohickey" installed which I understand is a pretty common service. Have taken it on several long trips since and the big dog just eats it up without complaint. A great, indestructable machine

    Great video with one exception. I cannot believe you included the Buell Blast. I have know quite a few people that had them and said they were the worst piece of manure on 2 wheels. It was a sporty engine cut in half and vibrated twice as bad. Pieces would vibrate loose and fall off while riding. Also, I would suggest the DR 650 over the KLR. But they are both good. I grew up riding my family and friends motorcycles and three wheeler Hondas. Started out blasting through fields and down dirt roads.
    When I was stable enough later in life, the first bike I bought and could call mine was an 1986 FJ1200. Loved the hell out of that tank of a motorcycle. Next was (still own) a fresh off the dealer floor 2007 ZX10R. And when things could be more confusing I purchased a 2014 EX300 for my ex when the salesman thought I was buying a downgrade out of fear.... lmmfao.
    I rode the 300 all the time. That little bike had such an inspiring attitude and helped me build my experience and confidence in wet weather. Was also a blast getting that to the moon and back mileage.
    Nowadays it's just the ZX10R in the stable. I'm 41yo and still enjoying thrashing it every now and then. Lately the way my body feels, been shopping around for a nice used URAL.
    Be safe out there ladies and gents.

      I bought one as a "life boat" for my Victory Vision due to the null Polaris service for its brand, and now I find myself using it even for my iron butt rides, as it's so much fun and so frugal. Its only defects are its height, as I'm short, and the limited capacity of its tank that limits its autonomy, especially when riding very hard.

I am used to basically dealing with life designed for people that are not visually capable at the altitude I am accustomed to but I never thought about that drooling over into the world of motorcycles. My problem is bike choice. It would be nice to see some bikes that are sporty and cool rather than adventurous and tame (or lame) for the tall guys, that would be killer.

    About time you gave the Vstrom 650 some love! Great starter bike. I bought mine (my first bike) in 2018 and have put over 70K km on it. After oil changes, all I've done is brakes once and the chain and sprockets. Did the first valve check at 75K km, all the valves were still in spec. 👍🏻👍🏻This bike is a blast to ride!

      They're a great bike in general. I had my cousins one for 3 weeks to fix after it was stolen (it was 2 weeks old) I repaired it in a day, and spent the rest of the time riding it. They're comfy, quiet, easy to ride, fast enough, the wind protection was great compared to my usual sport bikes, and they're easy to ride with a passenger on the back. Room for boxes and stuff as well if that's your thing. Shame they get seen as a beginner/lower level bike, they really can do everything.

    Before I found out from my local Ducati whisperer that my 696 Monster does not like 98RON and to run it on 95RON. (think the US equivalents are 93 & 91MON) the bike used to drive me nuts with being difficult to start , particularly in cold weather.
    The bike would start , run for a few seconds then stall and not want to start again.
    Now on the lower octane fuel it starts evert time ,
    The turning circle still sucks and finding neutral at the lights is a challenge.
    The Desmo service is only for the truly brave home tinkerer but the cam belts aren't that difficult and a phone app can be used for setting the tension.

    Started on a Suzuki GS 500, I have a KLR 650, might be a little big for your average beginner, very tall bike 500lb of earth crashing power. Some nice bikes on the list! You seem to have forgotten the Ninja H2 best beginner bike.

  • @edsteward7717
    @edsteward7717 3 роки тому +1

    Nice list! I agree with all those for newbies, and would ride most, as an old guy.

  • @Jamie-cz2xu
    @Jamie-cz2xu 3 роки тому +6

    The biggest problem with this list is the word "starter"
    Your first bike should be an R3 or Ninja 400 or Z400 or CBR 500, Ninja 300 or Duke 390 or CRF 250L.
    The reason is so simple. You will love riding no matter what you are on, but if you are on something that scares you or you dont like the look of, you wont wanna ride. You will fall off once and be like no way am i getting back on that bike. And in 2 months you will be selling your bike and say riding is not for you.
    You want a bike that doesn't scare you and one you can have fun with. Sure a Z800 is a better bike than an R3 but you wont have fun on it because firstly you will never use all the power as a beginner and that means most of your riding will be in an upright position and slow.
    Buy something slow. Especially for learning.

      Gotta learn to walk before you learn to run
      Learn to ride a slow bike fast before getting a fast bike

    Have you ever tried Honda CB400SFV. The 400cc japanese inline 4 and make a really awesome sound. In my country we call it super4 and it is one of the most famous beginner bike. And it is also a kind of bulletproof type, just like the CB750. Although it is still in production, why i never heard of any reviews or any words about this bike! I just want to hear your opinion or your side of review about this bike.

    The duke got up to 73 hp nowadays. It’s pretty rough and hard to learn cornering on because of the 1 Zylinder. You gotta have the exact right gear. But if you got the technique and big balls than there won’t be anyone faster than you in the corners, especially in the tight ones. I mean for real you can bring the front tire on edge there. For cornering there is probably because of the weight and the punch out of the corner, nothing really much faster.

    Before you recommend starter bikes for new rider's. You should go watch several MSF basic rider classes. I have been for 18 years.
    Just because someone passed the class doesn't mean they should be on anything bigger than a 250. I could go on about the MSF course but I think it's more about getting everyone a certificate.
