I have all dq 3DS & DS games except Dq 5 DS
The Ds dragon quest games have skyrocketed in the past year. It's insane how fast the prices increased.
Actually, the reselling market since COVID has gotten way out of control. Everything right now is super inflated.
I think sellers will eventually decrease their prices if people wait and don't buy them at inflated prices
@@Cheesefist its also popping in some places. some retro games that sold for thousands are depreciating so fast now that covid is ending. people are realizing you probably can't make much money off these things
I’m glad I got DQVIII at my Walmart on clearance for $20 brand new
DQviii for 3ds is expensive now. I managed to just grab a copy for $50. Vii is going for $20!!
Wtf that's awesome. DQ never get cheap on DS.
I hate you
Mine went 45
not new but gamestop which is famous for never having the game you want or the case had it cased for $34 yay
I'm so happy to grew up with dragonquest
No series ever could make me to have that much fun
Same
It got me back into video games, but only speaking for the main series and not the spinoffs. Also, the music is amazing as well.
I watch this now as a new DQ fan and wish the games were still these prices
I once had the dragon warrior series all 4 but the trouble getting the number 2 was me having to pay 75 bucks out of a 150 dollar set of all 4 because i was breaking up the set but there was no way i was going to not own anything less than all 4 then i got the number 7 on pax and tried to own torneko but it was crap i thought talons quest funny also the monsters games i was not fond of but my fave was getting 5 and 6 translation on the emulator
This video really shows the hurdles of getting all mainline DQ games, I hope that square decides to port all mainline games on switch eventually since I own all of there ports.
Seriously
Not if they do like they did with the first three. The Switch ports of those are freaking god awful. Some of the laziest uninspired ports I've ever seen of any game, let alone something like Dragon Quest. Pretty shameful of Square Enix if you ask me.
Ikr I had to stoop down to using an r4 to emulate the dq ds games
@@skins4thewin To be fair, those are just ports of the titles released on mobile phones, hence why the earlier titles (I & II) are so bad relative to III, and why III doesn't have monster animations like it did on the SNES remake (despite the mobile version being based on DQIII SNES).
@@gamerk316 Yes, we know. And they suck.
The way you did this video felt somehow like a mini adventure, nice sketch segments, and not boring at all, keep up the good work
Glad you liked it, thanks.
My dad got me a copy of Dragon Quest 6 on the DS when I was younger back when it first released, and I was genuinely surprised to see just how much it goes for now! Glad I've still got my boxed copy on me for the collection :)
I find it interesting that the rarity and prices of some DQ games are very different in France. For example, V and VI are opposite. I bought DQ VI a few months ago for about $20, but DQ V is extremely expensive. You can't find a used copy for less than $50, and a new copy is more than $100. The 3DS port of DQ VIII is also very common and cheap in France. You can easily find a new copy for like $15. Same goes for DQ VII.
I think that's the same throughout Europe, in the UK DQ6 and especially 9 are really really common, but 4 is rare and 5 is extremely rare, it goes for about £50-£60 but just finding a copy is a challenge in itself.
@@foolboyv5 Yea, DQ6 is very common in Northern Europe. I bought my copy new in store for ~$15, alongside DQ9, DQ8 (PS2) and DQMJ 1 & 2 for around that price as well. The old DS games were so cheap at the end of their lifespans. DQ5 and DQ4 are a different story entirely, the PAL versions sell for a lot - more than the US copies. I personally cheaped out and got the US version of DQ5 for around $20-$25 new when it was common on ebay and other places.
@@VA77E I did the same thing, I managed to find a PAL copy of 4 a few months ago, I got US versions of 4 & 5 a couple years ago when they were around £20-£30
@@foolboyv5 Nice :D Sadly DQ4 is still missing from my collection. Need to try to pick that one up at some point.
@@VA77E any luck?
*Cries in PAL*
For real our first release was DQ8 in 2006.
Yeahhhh
Well still play DQ3 and other older titles for snes and etc by using the og Japanese roms and patches to play in english or if available also in german (fan patches)
At least I know it's not easy to get these games
Crazy how quickly the DS games prices shot up in only a year.
What happened with 4? It skyrocketed!
So I posted an update on the prices on the comments section. They all went up like crazy especially 4 and 5
Exactly. It. Is. Insane.
The ds dragon quest 4 and 5 games are the only dragon quest mainline games I haven't played :(
@@LunaLuminary play it on mobile it’s what i did and it was really good
Thank you for being so dedicated to DQ , huge fan.
Appreciate the support
I own and beaten dragon quest vi on Nintendo DS. I didn’t think it could be so valuable. I got it for under $40 back when it was first released. Guess I lucked out when got it day 1. What a world.
DQVIII for the 3DS is already very expensive in Spain and I'm glad I got my copy when it was released
Thanks for making this video! I was just about to buy some new games on the eShop! If I hadn't gotten this notification, I may've never thought about getting Dragon Quest!
Your videos inspired me to play through all of DQ from the beginning. Currently near the end of DQ4 and am hoping to play all the way to XI eventually. Thanks for the work you put into these!
Happy to hear it
I had no idea that DQB was rare on switch, glad i picked it up when i did! The builders series is still some of my favorite games
Dang a few years ago the ds games ranged around 20-30$ now they’re on the $100
I love the animated sequence XD. Just seeing a smile in the car is just funny to me XD. But also great video. I need to buy a DW4 NES cartridge and not even play it
Glad you like that part haha
Loved the video. Subscribed!
Great video! When Square Enix had a sale on their website a few years ago, I was able to pick up a reprint of DQIV on for $15. I am hopeful that I’ll find the other two DS titles at a reasonable price someday
Umm Ive been working on getting my hands on all the mainline DS releases, I think the prices on this video needs an update! I wish they were still this cheap!!
Thanks for your work man, I like your dedication. I about pooped my pants when Hero came to Smash Bros, I was like "...THERE'S AN RPG WITH TORIYAMA SAN'S ARTWORK?!?!?!"
Ive been obsessed since. Such good, simple fun.
Man you were so right on DQVIII 3DS. I remember them dropping then just skyrocketing. So glad I got all of my DS, 3DS, and Switch DQ games early on.
My predictions come true as usual
Great content for a comparatively niche community, that's worth a sub. Keep it coming, dude
Great video as always sack!
Thank you!
“Includes a demo disc for a far more inferior game” as someone who has played ff12 and dragon quest 8 I must say you’re right. This is coming from a huge ff fan boy. As much as I enjoyed ff12, dragon quest 8 was a great experience through out. 8 was my first dragon quest game and comparing the two is like comparing a well made dinner to frozen pizza.
Aside from that, my most valuable dragon quest game would be 6 CIB. For personal value I say dragon quest 8 because it got me into the series.
At least it's not 13. We don't talk about that one
Gothic Bertram agreed gothic. I tried so hard to like 13 but I couldn’t. The game was so boring and even annoying which barely happens to me while gaming.
Also p5 makoto? A man of culture I see.
@@videogameslueth7744 no trust me. I'm Hifumi Gang 100% makoto is just a cool character.
FF died after 10. And even then it was a completely inferior game compared to 9. Sakaguchi leaves SE and suddenly FF is garbage = not shocked. lol
@@ruggie.74 I do prefer the FF games 9 and prior
I'm not a collector but it was nice hearing you nerd-out about DQ. I also learned a lot about the franchise from watching this and its a really funny video. Out of all of these, I think the one I actually really want is DQ8 3DS
I liked the animation and style of your DW3 game store segment. Would like to see more like it
Will keep it in mind for the future
No lie, you videos inspired me to go and play all the DQ games. The only games Im missing from the main series now are VI and VII!
Hi, new to the channel and I'm glad I subbed! Sadly since I'm new to the series all I have is DQ11S for Switch, but I love it so much! I've been wanting to get DQ4 though but haven't had the money for it or anything. And you make DQ5 sound so nice so I hope I can find that one too. Keep up the great work and I hope your channel keeps going up from here!
This video is about 1.5y old at this point and man was it spot on. DQB on Switch is like $90. DQB on Vita is back to $80-$100. The 3 DS titles and 2 3DS titles are insanely expensive too. I'm glad I bought them before they skyrocketed in price.
*looks at my version of DQ6 for DS* huh...did not expect that it would be that rare. But when you mentioned the 3DS releasing the same year, the logic checked out. Very glad I got it at release
Just got Dragon Quest VIII Remake for the 3DS sealed for Christmas. Ironic how I watched this video on Christmas to.
Great, hope you enjoy it!
@@sackchief Oh I will enjoy every last minute of it.
This blows my mind how little the Warrior games sold when they came out. They are such amazing games!!
It's fairly common knowledge that console rpgs didn't click in the west till ff7
Dragon Warrior was my first rpg, through the Nintendo Power subscription of course. I was entranced by that game over summer vacation. I think it might have been the first game I ever finished too, besides SMB. Now I'm sitting here playing DQXIS, loving it every bit as much as Dragon Warrior. I love the 2d throwback segments. Good video dude, thanks!
That pic at the end was a wonderful way to close out the vid!
CONGRATS ON 7000!!! See you at 10K! :)
Thank you!!!
Nice to find someone else who enjoys this franchise as much as I do. I had no idea that my copies of the mainline series on DS were so much. As for DW4, I bought it over 10 years ago on eBay and back then, I paid $60 for it loose.
I even have the SFC versions of V and VI, PS2 version of V, and the PS4 version of X. I heard they were starting to open it up to the west so I bought a copy.
Just recently dug my DW 3 and 4 out of the closet, games still work. Going to do a replay of each for old times sake then might sell them both. Nice to know they still have value.
My friend sold me DQVI and DQVIII for 14 bucks for both.. They're both loose, how much of a steal was this?
That’s really good for DQVI
You took advantage of your friend
@@LOSTLEAD8R his fault he decided to sell it to me, hell, I didn't even know it was worth that much.
DAMN BOI
Nice dude. Those games are rare . I hear DQVI is getting more expensive. I bought it for 40 bucks used at gamestop
Jokes on you, I have dragon quest builders on switch
ON DIGITAL
I have it physical. Store I worked at had it but mine was a Gamestop preorder.
I bought builders on switch discounted new and sold it. Now I want to play it again. I’ll be playing more now than I did when I first got it.
Good rule of thumb: you can buy them used or without the case and will often not 10 to 20 off the price. Then buy a replacement case for 5-10 dollars.
In order of purchase:
DQ8 3DS - 40 (Gamestop) New
DQ7 3DS - 25 (Ebay) New
DQ9 - 30 (Gamestop) Used
DQ5 DS - 25 (Gamestop) Used
DQ6 DS - 25 (Gamestop) Used
DQ1-3 Switch 15 (Eshop)
DQ4 DS - 54 (Amazon) New
DQ H1 PS4 - 8 (Gamestop) used
DQ H2 PS4 - 18 (Gamestop) used
The DS version of DQ6 was published by Nintendo rather than Square Enix which might explain the scarcity of copies. I guess Square Enix had lost faith in the series 'performance in the west and wasn't going to continue releasing them here after the DS release of 5.
Holy shit I am more happy that I bought the DQVIII remake as my birthday present a year ago
I have DQ8 on 3DS with box it's a awesome also adorable animated skit lol that guy is basking on what could have been yours XD
It still surprises me how many great games of DQ didn't go outside of Japan. I've seen a lot of fan translations of 5 but I couldn't imagine that the DS version was the first officially released one. I also would've loved to see the other Torneko games and Young Yangus in English...
We haven’t been eating for a long time
Thank goodness I came across Dragon Quest 9 in a shop just randomly, I know that if I didn't pick it up I would regret it later, it was the last copy there!
Lol of course you were spot on about DQ8 for 3DS. The value absolutely skyrocketed this year, with new copies going for upwards of $200 or more. Insane. Should have grabbed a copy when I had a chance.
Subbed great video
I just looked to check if I have DQ 6. I thought I bought them all and might have overlooked that one.... But I'm glad see it on my shelf sealed!
I had no idea that Dragon Quest VI on the ds was so rare. I bought it in like 2011 or 2012 and I never really played it until a few months ago. I'm kind of glad that I picked it up after playing Dragon Quest IX
Yeah same here, but in the UK it was pretty cheap when it came out. Bought it from GAME in like 2010 or 11 like you and never touched it until like 2016 or 17.
I just prefer emulating the SNES version.
Just completed my DS/3DS Dragon Quest collection (4-9) this past holiday and 6 was definitely the hardest one to get.
I'm glad I got my copy of DQVIII back in June 2017. I wasn't expecting it to go out of print that quickly.
Great video! I have physical copies of iv, v and vi on the ds and viii on the 3ds! Oh, I also have a physical of the first dqm on the ds.
Cool I'm glad I got Dragon Warrior 4 cart when I saw it in UT at a game peddler that was awesome. And got some of those DS ones too but not the Realms one.
Great vid chief!
It's sad to see 8:55 be the starting point for Europe when it comes to DQ games
Ah well atleast we get the newer ones
Great video fasho
The sarcasm in this video is extensive and I adore it.
But 8:15 I'm not sure if the implication is nobody has heard of them or Sackchief isn't a fan xD
Im just starting fresh! So far Dragon Quest XI S on Google Stadia!!! no physical but great experience which im onna have to get a physical now! I ordered dagon quest 1,2,3 in english on the way now and DQ monsters Joker and first of many slime plushie haha so excited! Thanks for this video its guided me in some of my purchases like the dqm joker one! Thanks man! I appreciate our videos!
Great video!
Thanks!
Managed to get a lightly used copy of DQ6 DS with box and manual for around $40 like around 2016-ish and it sounds like a good thing I did. Also picked up 4 and 5 DS for like $20 NOS in a square enix store clearance sale around that time. Good stuff. I think I have all the US releases of the main series titles in one form or another but none of the spinoffs. I keep contemplating getting boxed XI S and importing X just so I can put the whole thing unbroken on a shelf. Need to get repro boxes for the game boy releases if I'm gonna do that tho.
Glad I didn't get DQ VI for those ridiculous prices. Good video!!
I finally snagged IV after chasing it for 20 years. That was the first one I played - I had to sell 2 boxed Atari 2600 games, a pile of controllers, 2 boxed NES games, and a whole bunch of other stuff to get it from the local game shop - basically was a $156.00 trade in - well worth it. I could have had it boxed, new, for $11 bucks when I was a young Mario fan - still kicking myself for passing it up at Toy Liquidators when I was 11 back in 92', but I was not into DQ yet.
With the other three I got lucky. I I bought in 1998 at a K-Mart that sold used/refurbished loose NES games for about $15.00. III was next from a local game store where I lived at the time for $35.00 in 2003, and then after that was II from the same game shop I got IV from for $56.00 about 2 years ago..
However, I don't buy these for value, I buy them because I want to play them, over and over again.
I know that feel
Got Dragon Quest 8 for the 3DS a couple of days ago. This video gave me the idea to buy it before I becomes the 3DS equivalent to DQ6. Worth it.
dq 8 was my first DQ game and I still love it to this very day I have both the PS2 version and the 3DS version
I REALLY hope square decides to port the mobile versions of DQ 4-6 to switch. I hate having to spend so much money just to be able to play through my favorite series.
Would be great
Me too. Especially IV. That is my favorite Dragon Quest game. I like the chapter system. That makes it like it's 5 games in one.
Glad i got into DQ when the ds games first came out, especially 6 now
yeah I remember my bro and I seeing DQ9's commercial and it looked like DBZ so my bro picked it up. Oh btw can u do a review of Blue Dragon?
That’s something I’ll eventually do
sackchief yay
Funny that I was buying the DS remakes a week ago. At 11:41 you show a 54.95 loose copy of Dragon Quest 6, and that as a matter of fact is the copy I ended up buying. Just found it funny that it was in this video, what great timing.
How about an updated mid-2021 version of this video? :-) Recently I decided I'd like a copy of DQV DS - oof. Absolutely out of control prices. One guy on Amazon wanted $600. I bought a JP copy for $53 in the meantime, until I can find a decent English copy. I'm so disappointed with myself that I didn't buy this during release time, and actually very shocked to find out that I didn't have it. I spent an absolute fortune on DS games during its run, both US and JP games. I honestly thought I had DQ IV and V DS remakes and couldn't believe that I didn't. I do have VI, plus the VII and VIII 3DS remakes, but kicking, kicking, kicking myself that I never picked up IV and V. I had better get my wallet out.... :-(
I got DQXI on DS a while back for 20€. Watching this made me feel good about it.
Glad this channel exists!
👍
I own all of the modern DQ games. I made sure to pick up VI when it came back in stock for $20 on Amazon a year after its release. IV and V I was able to find easy enough for $20 on Newegg at the time. I try to make sure I preorder every mainline DQ game even if I don’t have the time for them. For the PS4 spinoffs, I generally just wait until the price goes down which, as you pointed out in the video, is inevitable.
I got DXVIII on the 3ds used for 15 euros, been playing through it and it's fantastic!
I lucked out and got Dragon Warrior IV on the NES when it originally came out. I don't have the box anymore, but I do still have the cartridge and the world map that came with the game. I still pop it in once and awhile. Surprisingly, the original save battery is working, but I know I am on borrowed time.
Love this video. I've never played DQ 1-3 and am deciding whether to get them on GBC or switch. The GBC versions look better to me but the prices lately look even higher, possibly due to the current situation in the world. I'm so happy I have all the ds and 3ds games minus 6. Other than that I have been looking in local retro stores for Dragon Warrior 7 on the PS1. I'm happy most of these before they went up crazy in price.
Man am I glad I picked up dragon quest 6 at Walmart back in like 2012, got that sucker at like $30-40 (first game in the series for me and easily one of my favorites). Was quite surprised to hear that it’s harder to find, I expected it to be a bit more on the cheap side
I just recently got into this series. My first Dragon Quest game was VIII on the PS2 way back in 2006, with VII on 3DS. Just picked up XI for the Switch and I have a daunting task ahead of me if I want to play the rest of the games.
There’s always the mobile ports for a cheaper alternative
Nice, o already got DQVIII for 3DS, well, i got it from day one so it was a sure shot
This is why I normally buy RPGs im interested in right away. They tend to go out of print quickly, and fetch high prices.
OMG I have 2 complete in box copy's of Dragon Quest 6, that Toy's R Us gave me basically for free back in the day. Had no idea they were so valuable.
13:32 ah yes my favorite dragon quest game.
I didn't catch that joke at first lmao
Great video! I have all of those and more :) Some are unopened!
That’s really cool!
I’ve had DQ VI DS for years and it’s my favorite!
Alternative title: flexing my DQ games
I have DQ VI on the ds in good condition with box and I only now realized how valuable it is lol. I just have it sitting around. Makes me proud of my game collection!
1:46 Crazy to think that Casper Van Dien, the actor who played Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers, first acting gig had him dressed as the Hero of Alefgard. Also it's funny that the player's guide by Prima for Dragon Quest Builders goes for like 5x more than the actual game. Chalk that up to the fact it came out when physical guides were being phased out.
Man thank goodness I got DQ8 on 3DS when it came out because I had to pay some good money to get DQ6. Anyway great video.
Thank you
Whew, I'm glad I picked up 8 for the 3DS. I love it. I played it for the ps2 and couldn't find a system to play it on til the re-release for the 3DS. Now i'm glad I bought it because I haven't seen a copy anywhere.
I'm glad I found a brand new copy of Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS for a little over $40 online back in August.
Yeah i actually bought DQVIII a couple months ago for $30 at a game shop of mine, it would be cool to see if it actually got rare eventually
I struggled to find a store with 8 but after I got it, i kept bumping into it a Walmart and also 7
I am glad I still have all my DW1 thru DW4 cartridges, boxes, and manuals, and a DW7 for PS1, even though they are very well 'loved'. So found some downloadable files that let me play all four of the Nintendo ones on my PC now.
2:03 that 3D generated dragon looked like something I’d see at a bowling alley when I get a strike.
Ooh nice! I’ve got builders 1 on switch, I’m surprised it’s that valuable!
Glad I picked up my copy of VI back in 2016 before the prices started rising. In fact, I'm playing it right now! I have every main series entry except for X.
That actually makes me glad I’ve kept my DS copy of DQ6, it’s only the cart cause it was used at GameStop years ago sitting at 35 bucks at the time. Never looked back, even if people don’t seem to like it, it’s actually my favorite along with 3 in the series.
I needed Dragon Quest 6 on the ds to complete my collection back in 2015. New copies were selling for $125 or so on Amazon. I found it at a Meijer in the DS case brand new for it's original price of $35. It was wild. I had looked at that same copy on the shelf there for years not knowing it was valuable. Glad I found that it must have been meant to be.
Also, about DQ8 PS2...
It's more expensive on Amazon, I'm not kidding
They’re overcharging likely. It should be cheap.
Amazon overcharges for retro games, don’t buy till you compare prices!
15:25 Nice
