    The original Dragon Quest is the only one in the series that I've come back and finished more than once. I've done the SNES, mobile, and NES versions in that order. This video makes me want to play it again, but this time the game boy version. Those Sprites are looking nice. But I bet they would look terrible blown up on my TV.
    ( I'm new-ish to the DQ series tho, I fully intended to revisit the full erdrick trilogy but I lost my patience with NES DQII. so I decided to finally skip it and dive into the Zenithian Trilogy, which I hadn't played yet. I'm starting on VI bit I already feel like I wanna revisit IV. )

    10:10 BUT if you do this you will probably never find Erdrick's token on a blind run unless you actually end up counting all the paces from the castle and how tedious is that
    Today I beat DQ1 on an SNES fan translation of DQ1+2 and it was fun. This is a good video

    This was very enjoyable to watch. I have had DQ1 on the backlog for so long and I finally started it yesterday. Currently level 17 and I already knew most of the objective from the NPCs but find it hard to remember/follow up the names of each village without trying to look at a guide. Levelling up and getting better armor feels so rewarding since the party consists of one member and the SNES version is awesome! I'll continue at night and probably finish it since most monsters aren't giving me trouble anymore. Hoping you do a DQ2 retrospective in the near future!

    I have Dragon Quest 1-6 on my android phone and I can say that these old turn based RPGs are very much playable on a touch screen. Unlike games like sonic which totally suck without a controller. It might take like 2 mins to adjust to it but it works out rather well and they look very good but are still SNES type graphics instead of the modern 3D stuff. So if you ever want a totally portable version of any of these first 6 games just know that the android versions are very well done and a great, cheap and easily accessible way to play them these days. Thanks for the video!

    Just finished playing the Switch version (which I think is the same as the mobile release). While I did get some online help (I get easily frustrated when lost) the game was a lot of fun and became great for me when I was strong enough to explore most of the world with no issues. I do wish some parts of it made more sense, like how turn order is decided (so often I'd be fighting a monster or boss only for them to randomly go before me when I select a heal spell and then I die).
    Can't wait to start DQ2.

    • @sackchief
      @sackchief  3 роки тому +2

      In the original NES version that is the case, however that is actually a localization change to give them two different names, they share a name in the original Japanese release. In the GameBoy version onwards both the castle and town are called Tantegel and they are even combined into one in Dragon Quest II.

    Is this going to be able to get me back into those turn based battles I'd always hated since my 1st ever rpg and that was pokemon cuz I never had the ps1 to play the ff series which I got into later only after ff3&4 on the Nintendo ds and now I'm like well idk I'd always heard this's a great game/ series but idk if I can stand the old graphics and turn based battles and grind getting them pokemon and ff3&4 vibes all over again lol. But I guess I may as well try it for the 2$on sale right now or should I just skip to 3or4? I heard it's a prequel idk. Is it so good that I wont care about turn based battles random and the graphics and old lack of map n other quality of life that are new and missing from these old games. This sounds really brutal like if ya dont have any nostalgia for it then also these issues idk its it's a hard sell for me so far &it sounds brutally hard wth wow.
