    Out here in the west at lake mead, the water Temps get down around 55 to 57 degrees. Not near as cold as where you guys fish. I'm not much on drop shot but so far this cold season my chatterbait jigs and similar lures have been getting results. I do slow it down by switching to a 5.2 to 1 spinning reel on an (don't 😅 too much) ugly stik elite medium pole. I can feel everything that even touches my lure. Anytime I throw drop shot it finds that exact place between rocks and locks right on in

    I've been using that hula grub on a jig for a couple of decades. I'm not sure why guys dont tend to use it.
    As I've said in years past, the Z-man micro jig with the ned head on it, with a Missle baits drop craw on as a trailer. The jig in green pumpkin and drop craw in blue makes an awesome blue craw color, like the little softshell craws. When I can't get bit with anything else, on a calm bluebird winter day, thats what goes on. But its gotta be calm, cause theres very little weight to it, but it works! Smallies love em.
    As I've also said before, when the crappie are crackin the no see ums, that Karashi mid winter. When no see um minnows sun themselves mid winter on those warmer days, Ive killed the crappie on slow crankin/dead stickin the Karashi. This is when the huge 14, 15, 16 inch big girl crappie come out to play.

    Sorry for the double comment. That Matt Stephan hover stroll rig with a Sixth Sense Juggle minnow has been fire for that mid column game for me. That middle bend it gets and shoots off in a wild direction. I have a pile of dimiki rigs, but the Matt Stephan rigs are hard to beat. Its got a wild glide and glides further than the Damiki. I do use the Damiki for ledge hopping bluff walls in the Ozarks though, and it can kill em. But doesnt glide like the MS rig.
    This technique cracks the walleye for me too, really well. I eat well during the winter!

    Instead of the hula grub with the fb head hook you could use a BeastCoast OW Sniper jig it’s a finesse fb jig with a sticky finesse hook with so you could use any plastic you want, they have a lot of different colors plus they use a chipless 97% tungsten compound

      I just started hitting temple bar this last weekend. It's still a dirt launch with a mat. But I did study the under water geography and yes....I do believe I could kill it up in that part of lake mead. Especially in the spring time 👍

    Have you guys had any luck throwing dead action or “profile” trailers on jogs when the water gets near freezing or is the Yamamoto double tail subtle enough to get bit under those circumstances?

    • @caseysaunders2137
      @caseysaunders2137 Рік тому +1

      I like the micro/compact jigs with a baby paca, but my lake generally won't get below 40 deg. You might also try putting a ned bait on your football jig . Trim the bait shorter if necessary to keep it 3" or less and maybe trim back the skirt to the lower edge of the hook shank so that very low action ned tail is sticking out. Hope you hook em good !

    What’s the difference between hover strolling and mid strolling?

    • @caseysaunders2137
      @caseysaunders2137 Рік тому +2

      I think the main difference is mid strolling is exactly as described by Tim in the video....use std jig head with low action swimbait body, cast out, let bait drop to bottom or mid column, shake rod tip up /down on the retrieve to get the roll effect as you reel it back to the boat. For hover shot, I think it's more common for livescope/active target. It's generally a smaller ligher wire hook with slim body bait. Cast to fish using FFS (or where you think there's fish), and work it in a more shorter range / vertical presentation. The hover shot hooks have a vertical line tie and you rig a slim body low action bait with the line tie set back from the head 1/4 to 3/8 inch. If the hook is unweighted, add a tiny nail weight in the bait head to keep it as horizontal as possible. There's hooks out there with weight on the long arm of the hook so you can avoid the tiny nail weight. Work it slowly in the water column and try to draw fish upward for the bite. Do some searches on tact bassin website. They have done videos on hover shot with suggestions on hooks, baits, and nail weights.

    • @raytubach8988
      @raytubach8988 Рік тому

      @@tacticalbassin oh cool! I have a couple SLX XT and the previous version Curado 70 and prefer the smaller hand size of a 70 reel but wasn’t really sure my wife would put up with spending more on fishing gear this Christmas. And I really like the SLX models of reels.
      Thank you and Merry Christmas! God bless you and your families this year… 🙏🏻
