I'm not a religious man, but your words were touching. Life does seem to have seasons that come and go. And just because something ends, doesn't mean it wasn't worthwhile, or can't be looked up fondly. Much love, brother ♥️
My brother got me into fishing again at the beginning of this year. I hadn’t fished since we were kids. (32 now) He unfortunately passed away in May. I’ve pretty much dedicated all my time to fishing now. I went from hardly knowing how to tie a knot to catching a 7lber this summer. Although I wish he was still here I know he’s always out there with me when I’m on the water. Thanks for all you do Alex. God bless
My brother A Rudd yep that's what I'll call you when you, me and John Dalton finally meet one day, the witness is genuine. Losing both of my parents by age 40 was rough and dark. I'm glad you decided to keep Dad's boat and took it to a lake where you made memories. I may have stopped writing fishing and outdoor articles after Dad passed in 2010 but I didn't stop fishing or putting into practice lessons I was taught. A chapter had closed and another season began. The analogy of that tree rang true and God doesn't waste opportunities. Love you dude, keep being you. Your brother in Christ.
A few years ago , I started experiencing some serious issues with PTSD and visions of what I saw while deployed, the strain of life , marriage and the painful memories of losing friends in combat really put me in a bad place mentally, So I fell back into a childhood passion of mine ( Fishing) something I grew up doing with my brothers, And I realized that with the right gear, mindset , a good jig and " GOD" as your guide life will get better, Bless You and your dad's memories, he's still with you in heaven !!!
Thanks for sharing the spot where you and your Dad fished and the memory. We all fall Short and need Jesus . Thanks for sharing your tips gonna try them ..
@way75mit9 we have a very similar story pal. I went down a bad road and finally got Oscar Mike in the right direction. With God at my side things have and are getting better. And fishing for me is the best release for my issues. Brother I’ll be keeping you in my prayers. God Bless and remember never and I mean never give up.
THANK You for your service and I'm praying for God to help heal your emotional and mental wounds. I've Never served so I can't even try to imagine what that's like but God certainly does and I'm so glad you're leaning on him.
Thanks for your transparency and sharing your walk with Jesus, your doing good stuff bro! Great tips on the jig for sure, I’m in apprentice stage on the jig, and appreciate your tips!
Man I love jig fishing, If I had only one lure to bass fish with it would definitely be the jig, great tips and great testimony, good fishing and God Bless!🎣
My condolences I haven’t been around and didn’t know your father passed on. I have been given less than a year to live unless I get a heart transplant so I’ve been very busy with so many different preparations for my very near future. I always enjoyed the video’s of you and your dad fishing together it’s the very bond I try to create with my adult children! I’ll pray for you and like my family says in Alaska for loved ones who passed on memory Eternal!
I soley focused on the jig bite last year but I started using the lightest jig possible, same bite as a ned rig, then moved up on weight. Also I found braid was better for bite detection as I could feel the bite on the fall. Everyone has a different method to reach the end goal- big bass! 👊🏼🎣
Thanks, Alex. One of your best videos. Entertaining. Informative. Personal. I appreciate your authenticity and genuine character in all of your messages. I'm looking forward to getting out in the kayak and making another commitment to fishing a jig with the tips you've provided. Thanks again.
I think we all can say we aren’t the best Jesus followers but giving it our all is the most important. Going through seasons in our life keep us from becoming too complacent and it helps us grow in Christ. I appreciate your words brother and I appreciate your videos. The information is priceless. Keep those lines tight. May you be blessed and highly favored!
I can definitely relate to the seasons change or the end of the season, my brother passed away two years ago in december. There's days where I see things and like you said it just reminds me that it will be okay. Doesn't make it easier to talk about or think about though I'm sorry for your loss
I've watched this video multiple times and I commented on trimming my jigs the same as you; however I always used the lightest jig I could find. After watching your video I went with a 1/2 oz and I did feel the bites better. I ordered 2 jigs from your links, trailers and dye that should be here Tuesday and I look forward to trying them on my next day off. Thanks for the tips!!!
Thx for the tips...I've gone from avoiding the jig at all costs to it being my go to producer...I love pitching to a juicy looking spot then feeling that doink...good times
Thanks for the intel and not being afraid to share your faith. today happens to be my momma's seventh heavenly birthday...so your comments about your dad were pinpoint accurate for me!
Great video and sorry for your loss hope things continue to get better for you. I do have a question what tips do you have for the hook set. I trim the skirt and weedguard but still have a few get off. I was thinking I may need s heavier rod. Thanks in advance!
Nothing makes these better than a little sprinkle of faith thrown in there - I think that's the most powerful thing we can share - thanks Alex. I loved watching you and your pops, and I still love hearing the memories - keep sharing as you feel the need. I imagine it helps you and a lot of us as well. Crush on brother!
Great video! I just started viewing your videos and find them very educational and enjoyable. Please keep them coming. One thing I’m interested in knowing is how water temp effects your approach and color of water and associated color of lure. Thanks!
3&4” chigger craw are my go to till the leaves change and the like flips. As a side note this summer ive been using a super trooper finesse footballs for small mouth with great results. Big believer in powerball. And l appreciate you sharing your faith.
I typically throw a 1/4 oz jig most the time. 3/8oz if I need to go deeper that 5ft. My home lake is between 2-3ft deep so the lighter jig works well for me. Great video brother
Thanks for the tips and the Word brother. My Dad and his brothers and friends have all been gone a long time now . Even my main fishing buddies are gone now . Time marches on . Enjoy your time with family and friends. And you never know when old age is going to shut our activities out too . Go while you still can. 🙏✝️💕😪
Still love watching your videos. I still have your Ketch board from when I bought your Old Town PDL. This was right after you broke your leg. I’d love to figure out time to go fishing with you! Also getting into making my own baits.
@@AlexRuddFishing thanks. I feel like my reels are set up well for casting but not for pitching. Just not consistent pitching a baitcaster for some reason.
Is there a difference between flipping a jig or t-rig in this scenario? I have no confidence in the jig but I’m trying to throw it every time I go out. Also the testimony was strong. I’ve prayed several times for you since your dad passed. I dread the day I’m faced with that. The boat reveal video hit me in the feels. I would’ve never made it through it without breaking down.
Main difference is profile and rate of fall. The jig is going to have a different profile because of the skirt and slower rate of fall because the skirt and trailer create a lot more drag.
I'm really digging your new kayak I sure your going to place high in the tournaments but you might make a bunch of soft plastic crawfish I'm thinking the bass are going to smash anything you throw at them this year.
I lost my father a couple years ago and I was afraid that fishing was going to be hard without him, but it’s been the opposite it’s like I feel closer to him when I’m on the water. I have a necklace that has sone of his ashes in it and I only wear it when I’m fishing so that he is there with me. His favorite color plastic worm was blue so that’s the color the charm is.
Love to you brother. I don't know you, but we are all God's children, and we have to go thru the same losses, struggles and joy. Turns out, for some of us, one of those joys is fishing a jig. Thanks for sharing as always. It's something powerful to see someone going through an authentic human journey. If you're ever in the Ozarks with your kayak feel free to hit me up 😊.
are you throwing the SX rkt? I have been looking at this reel since using my friend's original revs rocket for a jig last weekend. It was pretty cool, but I am trying to figure out if it is worth it over my other usual 8xx ratios

Finally somebody else who shows up to the lake to catch the bite and spends the first hour rigging up all his rods! 😂
Heck, maybe another trick is to pick at a backlash. Seemed like every time you picked at a backlash you hooked one lol
Good video, man!
I love that knot!

@@AlexRuddFishing Absolutely. Love the videos as always!
Can you elaborate on the best reel settings more for pitching a jig? I think that would a good shorter viseo.
100% I actually have a super simple way of setting up a brand new reel - I’ll make a short about it 👊🏻

Just joined your channel from very hot south Africa. Would you fish jigs from the bank as well? I fish with braided line most of the time.
First off awesome to see some South African viewers on the channel 👊🏻 second yes jig will work in super hot temps, third (legit question) are you not terrified of crocodiles fishing from the bank?
