I don't understand why no one is talking about a twin turbo setup, where you have a small turbo spinning up a large turbo and dramatically reducing turbo lag.
Im rolling both B58 and EA839. EA839 is sluggish and can definitely benefit from turbo upgrade for better low end torque. For daily B58, I'll say simple stage 2 ecu tune is more than enough. This engine is so smooth and effortless for stock turbo
at 11:38 you have 2 runs , one is hot and dry conditions , the second is on cooler air and a way more humid ... it counts , i dont know cars but I know planes one day you can pass the mountain , another day you cannot ( no turbo ). hot and dry you motor is asthmatic
I think it’s also important to point out that you have to be willing to work through the bugs to get your car dialed in and consistent. I’m having a tough day today with my car trying to find where / why my boost is cutting out at wot. I am tempted to put my foot through my door panel here and there, but other days it’s just so worth it for the fun you get to have 😂😂
Is it necessary to upgrade the turbo to reach 500hp ? the CSF intake manifold seems to add +20hp, the CSF intercooler +25hp. and custom fuel pomp may add 10-15hp. My guess is it's not enough to reach 500hp just with these parts.

I like the 585wtq and 500whp rather than the 590wp and 535wtq. Is there an upgraded turbo that doesnt sacrifice the torque numbers? I mainly do digs. And I love to get thrown back in the seat when accelerating.

@@itsgoofyytaee1110 a bigger turbo will still get you more torque. I have this turbo on my N55, and the spool is so quick, you gett a much better launch. When driving and floor it, by the time the tranny downshifts, you already have boost, so it also pulls hard, I tested this with a SC Camaron 1LE, and he pulled on me for a few secs, but shortly after I put a bus on him before letting go. This was with a stock LPFP, Dorch Stage 2, and an incomplete tune running at only 17psi. You don't lose anything at all vs a small turbo. Now that I have a built engine, my tunner says he can get me 870whp with this turbo after I upgrade my fuiling as I still need PI and the LPFP. But that's after the tranny of course, just letting you know of the potential of this turbo, 750 is the factory rated, so you can still get more. Just like this car is rated at 300hp, but look at how much we're getting out of it!

If your goal is sound, loud BOV and spool sounds, I assume bigger turbo wins there too? Also, any suggestions on how to get the B58 to safely bounce off the redline like Lexus F cars?

Hey Kern, I daily a FBO 340 xDrive running E40 on a TU pump. I would like to get around 600whp without PI, so I’m considering a new turbo. I was looking into the VTT GC turbo (not GC+) and assumed I may need to upgrade to a DS2 HPFP as well. Would you recommend this setup for my overall power goals? Would I even need to upgrade the HPFP?

tbh the biggest problem of big turbo comes way to short in the vid. dailying a big turbo and driving reasonably is totally effected big turbo lag. If you got the mppsk like me and dont wanna be the absolut douch an the road aswell as getting a normal mpg you drive between 1200-2500 rpm and in that rev range there is A huge difference between stock turbo and upgrade turbo. Especially if your a manual like you n me are, going 20-30 kmh and trying to get away fast will need you to clutch kick or whatever

Did you get the 420 fixed? If not I know how to fix it for very cheap lol. 02 spacer on your rear 02 sensor. I had to do it on my car when I went catless. Cost like $5

I got a P0420 on my 440i, I just cleared it and it went away. Still don’t know why it came on, but noticed it came when I would open and close the exhaust valve a bunch of times in a few seconds lol
@@kern417 What ethanol mix should I run to optimize a dorch stg 2 hpfp? I saw you make 630whp on E35 @ 28psi boost with the 8374 and PTF also made 700whp on E42. I thought E50 was needed to run high boost (28psi), apparently not.
@@jp_b58 it really just depends. Your best bet is to work with your tuner to figure out the optimal mix. I started with E30 and then we began bumping it up. I actually ended up around e40 and I think that's a good starting point for most people.
My M240i has a Pure800, Dorch HPFP and flex fuel sensor for E85. Car is an animal. The B58 is like a cheat mode. Boss.

Not sure what you mean. All big turbos can make more torque than a stock turbo.

My 630whp dyno was the turbo kit, Dorch stage 2, and custom tune on E40. I have port injection now but it's not needed for a reliable 600-650.

You can pretty much hit the limits of the transmission on an ethanol mix, but if you want to run full E85 then port injection is worth it

Your downpipe may be bad. Coolant code depends on what it is. Check the levels in your coolant reservoir

It can work great for drag racing if you dial in the launch. Lag doesn't matter once you're moving.
Turbo upgrade is expensive but worth it, even if it’s just to destroy any stage 2 cars you come across :)
