It’s crazy how far the B58 has come in a few short years. Savagegeese did a dyno of a stock 2022 Supra and it did ~400whp 100% stock.
2022 cars are making what stage 1 cars are making a few years ago.
I can’t explain how much I love my M240i does a bit of everything very well plus e85 is too fun

Just found this video but wow man you clearly know your stuff! I have a question I am in the process of buying a September 17 m140i with the B58M engine which is the gen 1? My question is is this the one to get looking to around 700bhp max no higher
Nice video as always Kern!! 😉👌🏻 i’m pretty happy with my Gen1 B58, My car has only 45K miles and i’m running MHD stage 1 with xHp Stage 2 and the car is a fast enough beast. i can see that I’m reaching 440hp in the HP meter and 540nm of torque... is that meter on the car screen accurate? Because honestly i’m very impressed with those numbers, and that’s enough for my daily driving tho. 👍🏻
It's not 100% accurate but if the car feels good and logs are clean that's what matters
@@kern417 This is just my personal opinion and not at all confirmed. But I believe that the HP and torque meter on the iDrive screen shows how much power and torque response you are requesting to the throttle pedal (which is now technically a torque demand pedal) Jason Camisa explains this much better than I can. So I like to think that the numbers show how much pull I am asking the car to do. I'm on MHD stage 2 but no trans tune yet. Still drives really nice and the f22 chassis just wants to rip it!
@@TedsApex the numbers are set by the tune. The tuner can calibrate 10psi to read 100hp or 500hp. Most tuners do not spend the time and R&D to calibrate everything to match specific hp levels at various amounts of load. Especially in an ots map.

If i am limitted to 91/94 oct where i live, what do you recommand between gen1 supra (2020) or Tu (2021+)? knowing that i want to start with fbo stage 2 and might get P800 later on. all on 94 oct. keep in mind that i am saving more or less 4-5k for older 2020 supra's.
All supras are TU. If you mean 2 port vs 6 port the 6 port will make power on pump gas easier

Excellent video. Can you go into greater detail about reliability? I'm in the market for a daily and I'm currently looking at 19 or 20 440xi Coupes. (No 21 as I am not a fan of the new grill). Do you think the 440s with gen 1s are good to daily with about 450wheel? Or if I am that concerned about reliability, just go for the Supra?

BTW, I don't mind upgrading the Fuel pump but I think a turbo swap may be a bit much for daily duty.

How do eblend tunes compare to M1 injection tunes on a high compression b58TU compare? I have a FBO, DAW ultra flow 6466 with dual jet M1 injection kit on my 2020 Supra. Being that e85 isn’t readily available by me, I was always curious to know if enough methanol injection would supplement the same effects of say an e30 tune with my car.
Thoughts on a stage 2 MHD tune for 2018 x3 m40i? Seems like these can be picked up for a great deal.

Stage 2 works well. You just need a downpipe

I had an MHD 2 Stage and my low fuel pressure pump broke

Interested in DAW flow max+ in my 340i with TU pump. Am I able to run OTS from bm3 for the meanwhile until I try to find a tuner for a custom map? I’m trying to plan things out.
a lot of people do. the best thing is to run logs to confirm.

Stage 2+ is downpipe + hpfp
Kern how is bootmod3’s integration with Reflex? Would u rather move to mhd for the integration than bootmod3?
I moved to mhd for that reason. I wouldn't say it's 100% necessary but it is convenient to have the advanced integration that mhd offers.

Good morning Brotha one more question oh great one 😅 I’ve had my M440 2022 about 9 months 9k miles on it now,I’ve noticed when I’m driving in sport plus plus using the paddle shifters while slowing down by down shifting,once I’m in 3 rd & then 2 nd gear my rear brakes squeak😮 😢 but in any other driving position like eco plus or comfort plus no squeaking 😳 not to mention brake dust what’s a Brotha to do? I don’t wanna void out my warranty by changing my rotors what’s a Brotha to do😅 thank you
If you have a warranty i would bring it in. It may just need some grease on the back of the pads or something

Correct me if im wrong but it does seem like the 2-port 11:1 high compression is better for boosting …. Everytime i see the first gen mk5 vs newer 6-port supras it gets off the line quicker or torquer . To me it seems like the 10:2:1 6-port is for higher top end HP.
correct. higher compression is like a shorter rear end. it does more with less work. the primary benefit of the lower compression engines is they tend to handle more abuse.
what turbo would you recommend for not adding port injection but just upgrading to the stage 2 hpfp for the gen 1? I don't need anything over 600 wheel.
Pretty much all the turbo options can hit that with a ds2 and ethanol.
DAW V2.5+, Ultra Flow, or Pure800 can easily get you there on DS2 with a good tuner

@@kern417 Thanks Kern. Looking for in between 500hp to 550hp from the stock 382hp. I understand a turbo upgrade is what I’m looking for to achieve this. I’d like to upgrade the exhaust as well. As far as down pipe, high pressure fuel pump, intake, charge pipe, ecu upgrade, etc etc. I’m not too sure. It has to be done right. There’s just too many conflicting opinions for me to know what is actually needed do to limited knowledge. Budget? I’m not sure until I see a list or something of what’s ACTUALLY needed to do it properly. 10k? More? I appreciate any help I can get.
@@jeffmays7192 you can get there with a turbo and downpipe. No hpfp upgrades are available for TU but you won't be limited by fuel in that range.

Unfortunately G platform doesn't offer manual for m240s so b58TU was not an option for me. I just got a 2021 M240 with manual, I wanna do stage 1 Tune but car still has 20 months of warranty. Should I wait for the warranty or are there any stage 1s out there that is revertible if anything goes wrong with the car?
You dme is locked so it's a lot more difficult to tune than older cars. I'd wait personally

if you want to be able to tune it easily, make sure it's pre-2020. x-drive or rwd can work but rwd will be more traction limited. x-drive is sort of a cheat code.

Yes but if you're keeping your stock turbo then you will need methanol or ethanol

You don’t need a custom tune for your low level of mods. Just get an OTS map and a catted/catless downpipe and call it a day if you don’t plan to upgrade further.
Looking for a new daily 340i with a budget of around 32k is a 2016 340i rwd a good drivetrain for a stage 1 or 2 tune on stock turbos. Trying to stay close to 400 and no e, I don’t live close 😔

Stock internal b58 with full csf 6 piece cooling kit is probally good all the way to 700whp reliably that what jakie ding is getting on his global time attack car you can maybe get away with 800whp on a drag setup but anymore and it just a ticking time bomb on stock internal the b58 is really strong provided with good cooling at 500-600whp i would consider this level almost stock level of reliability.

Both B58C and B58D are TU engines. C is 2 port head, D is 6 port head.

It can support any amount of ethanol with an appropriate tune

Hello sir, you seem very knowledgeable in an area I need to become knowedgeable in. I am looking for a BMW x5 with an inline 6, huge horsepower is not so important, as long as I have enough. I look at your video here, please correct me if I am wrong, when I want to drive normally and not hard for the most I am wondering if it is the B58TU (second generation) ? The model I loved reviewed on UA-cam was a 2019 which still might be slightly too expensive for my wage, if I cannot get a 2019 with a B58TU, which is the best year and engine I can get for reliability and trouble free issues wise?

@@kern417 Hi thank you, I imagine B58 for something newish around 2019 or 2020? When you say "older" are you talking around 2005 to 2009? Before turbo chargers. Will these older ones be less expensive to maintain? I've never had a BMW before, currently have a GMC Jimmy, cheaper for parts but hate the interior cheap quality.
