CLASSIC CAR ROAD TRIP PREPARATION - WILL THIS 1965 PLYMOUTH MAKE A 600 MILE ROUND TRIP?

  • I'm pretty confident that my #plymouth will make the trip to the No Name Nationals no problem, but its probably a good idea to service a #classic car before you take it on a #roadtrip.
    This is part one of two. The second part will be preparing the Jet for the race track. Consider this and the next video an intro to our No Name Nationals coverage.
    We're off to Sikeston soon.

    When I do Seafoam, I pour it in at idle and dump in the last bit until the engine dies, or turn it off if it doesn't, leave it overnight and then take it for a spirited ride. It'll kill some mosquitos. This gives the seafoam time to really sink into the carbon deposits. For a pcv, you usually want it open on one side and the pcv on the other.

    I was around in the 60's,regularlly travelling out of state & i can tell you the technology then was VERY reliable for long distance provided...you do exactly what you're doing, "maintenance." Spares i'd carry along; Fan belts,points,condenser,rotor & distributor cap.Fuel filter.Always carry a fire extinguisher.

    My brother owned 1970s Ford smog barges back in the day. I'm talking 1976 Mercury Marquis 4 door land yachts with 400M (puke!) engines, 77 T-birds with 120 hp 302 smog engines...
    He would have someone hold the engine at 3500 rpm, and he would pour ATF down the carb.. and I will be damned, but the engines would run better after a plug change.

      Only if it were to leak past the rings. Which it wouldn’t have a chance to. Although a lot of people dump it in the oil and drive it for a couple hundred miles and change it.
      However I’m wary about doing that on an engine with solid lifters.

    • @gordthor5351
      @gordthor5351 Рік тому

      @@DaddysMoneyGarage I have always done the 3 part treatment (gas tank, oil and down the throat), with great results, but you make a good point about solid lifters. Yeah, it might not be a good idea.
      I don't know if I would say, "it wouldn't have a chance" to get by the rings. If gas can get in the crank case from priming through the carb too much, I don't see why a stronger solvent (typically less viscosity) like Sea foam couldn't seep through the ring gaps, while sitting for 15 minutes.
