Sometimes when you're scavenging in these systems you can set off a trap, or have a few marauders come out of hiding to attack you. Or you just hit a very small mine that's hidden among the debris. They can be destroyed with point defense weapons, if you see them. There are also hidden debris fields that you can't scavenge until you're right on top of them.
The way Splat works and the way Steam works, about half the time he says "We're taking another look at..." I find that game in my Steam library all sad alone and forgotten. Given how poor my memory is for things like this, it's almost like getting a new game for free.
Brings new meaning to: OMG it's full of stars... 😁 But honestly, massive sandbox exploration, deep crafting, decent combat... in space?? Take my money already!! 🤣
Laious has done a hell of a job with this game. Great to see it going full launch. Quick story: I came into the game back in the beginning of EA. He only had implemented a couple of dreadnought ships into the game back then, but I got far enough along to get the Syndicate one. You CAN warp around like Splat was, but every system has warp gates for ease of travel. The syndicate Dread was too big to fit through the gates, so I went on the Steam forums and put up a bug post. Laious responded and had it patched within the hour. Dude is one of those Trese Brothers-level of developers that deserves support, and works his ass off to earn it.
Escape Velocity was incredible, and it was in that category of Mac-only games that made it feel extra special for those of us who grew up in Apple households. Yes, it was later ported to Windows, same as Marathon and a few others, but for a year or two it was exclusive, and it was nice to have on a platform that was really left out of gaming, and to a large extent, still is. This game follows in EV's footsteps in that it's programmed by one person, as was the original EV (for the most part, anyway). Endless Sky gave it a go but I found it lackluster.
@@nutbastard I liked endless sky, but it didn’t feel like it took any big steps forward. Besides, I’m pretty convinced it’s going to be trapped in development forever.
@@TheWretchedOwl , what killed Endless Sky for me was the easy access to everything through the map screen. Rather than exploring the universe, you can type in what item or ship you want and it reveals it's location, zero effort. Zero effort = boring. Too much grinding = work no play.

@@arthurmiranda8896 I'd say its a more arcady version of star sector - can still build a fleet, etc (though it is more of a secondary thing still being worked on afaik but there's been lots of recent updates).
New to your channel( 6 months or so) love your indie game reviews. Thank you for introducing me to starsector and now this gem. ( astrox imperium is excellent as well) Keep up the fantastic work mate.

Technically you dont even need energy cells for your warp drive. Simply install a few batteries for energy storage and you can warp for free. This is one of my favorite space games.
You don't have to construct a Fleet though. Syndicate and PMC (miners) are usually best friends and hate Pirates, so that's another thing that I think you got wrong. I'm quite new for the game as played this game some what 60h now.. The Skill tree that gives you bonuses if you got skill points 10&10 haven't unlocked for me yet, though I went through Engineering and Business so waiting what that will bring me.. Over all Very addictive game! I will recommend! @12:40 after playing the Tutorial you can quit your game and check what opens what perk ( just to inform new players, I Love this channel cause I have heard so many games to play from SplatterCatGaming since 6years now?) and after completing the tutorial you have a chance to make your own sandbox parameters as you want, given for the randomizer etc. (Sorry editing my post as I watch the video) If you want fast progression in the game and want everything to be unchallenged I will recommend to dive through Comat missions etc. cause then you don't need so much of crafting and learning cause the game will give you most of everything that you need to progress... but If you are like me and want to micro manage everything, then go with the Engineering tree right side of the tree and Business for the left side of the tree. (little hint, If you buy any weapon 2 times and scrap them, it will give you a schematic of the weapon and if you build that weapon multiple times it will upgrade the weapon in higher tier, that goes with equipment's and some of the goods too like ammo etc.) another hint: take the autosave off, cause the game saves everytime you're next to base or jump gate, and those are the only points that you can save all together. Keep the Energy Cells at early game so you can Warp, I recommend to keep 16-32 energy cells all the time in your inventory to enable to warp place to place. ( your fleet doesn't need those cells but they do need the warp engine to warp your location) Sorry for a long comment and Sorry SplatterCatGaming for pointing out some of the things that you have said, like I said, I love your content! - And btw. SplatterCatGaming took most of the hardest way to play this game as building a Fleet, cause you have to equip every ship on your fleet separately, like giving them their own guns, shields, thrusters etc. and how those behave, do they do damage, are they healing, mining.. are they gonna keep damaging or do they use hit and run tactics etc. Props for the content creator to show us the more difficult way!
I also want to say that you should check Star Valor's own channel cause the Dev is very active and I think he does streams too, I haven't watch those streams yet, but I will in the future..
you've done a better job than most other youtubers that I actively watch in having a determining factor in obtaining for my self. thank you for your content!
I have about 360 hours in this (I play on hardcore like a madman, which keeps a lot of longevity in this, because I like seeing all my achievements have the cool red borders around them). This game's pretty awesome - combat/flight's like SPAZ 1 (one of my all-time favourites). There's a lot of different viable builds in terms of the talent tree, minmaxing your crews and your use of your ship slots is always interesting. Updates are always really good/interesting, and the permanent unlock system linked to the aforementioned achievements are awesome. Looking forward to the next patch.
There has been times i play a game and dont like it, then see it on your chanal and say ''oh, that's how its played!!" and go back to it and love it. you are the best, splat!!
Had this one in my library for some time. Started watching your play through again after they announced coming out of Development. What a huge, amazing game. The map is humongous, customization...so many choices, so many different ways to play. Love it!!
Well thank you so much for this video you where randomly recommended i took a look at some of your vids and this stood. I am now 80hrs in to my first play through Star Valor and loving it.
Absolutely love these names. I was multitasking so didn't hear if they are from Splat or in-game names, but they are very colorful and really add to the flavor! Expecting to see "Taser Face" at any moment, haha
Star Valor is an amazing game! I first got into it from your previous video and don't regret a moment of it :D The level of customisation for your ships and equipment is top tier and the Ravager boss ships provide an end-game challenge and an opportunity to find legendary quality gear.
with the recent updates, and improvements, the game is sooo much better now than previously. I would love you to revisit and experience the greatness that is this game.
Needs a rare resource named "Space Magic" and builds a ship, if you find all the pieces, that looks like just some guy riding on a thruster and holding a pair of guns. Silver Surfer or Oban Star-racer-style. Seriously though, this is an amazing game that's been on my wishlist since Splatt first covered it, but its going in my library now.
I really appreciate that it _seems_ like this game wants to cater to both the hardcore permadeath sweats and the filthy save scum casuals. I have absolutely no problem with hardcore rules and respect those who enjoy playing that way, but I personally am not going to sink time into a game that I can't save right before every action I take and immediately reload if I don't get the outcome I wanted
you actually can save everywere in the "relaxed" difficulty. yeah, it says weaker enemies, but they are not that much weaker. So to get used to the game, that mode is fine. but even on normal, saving near a station or jumpgate is not as restrictive as it sounds like.
Dude those AI pilots you've got flying your fleet are like a pack of over excited puppy dogs, running around all over the place bumping into everything weaving in and out of your legs. No control at all!! Highly entertaining to watch but if like out my hair having that lot looking after my backside!
Yeah that's mostly because he set the fleet distancing to 20, which is the lowest value, so they try to get as close to him as possible. They also try to get in range to fire their weapons, so sometimes they get too close to one enemy 😄
I really love this kind of games I would say out of my 3K plus game library this type of games are my favorites to go to, as you mention the customization, sandbox, progression system is just something I really like about it. While the game is already good as it is i really hope it grows out to an even more better game. I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
I caught a free key from the developer giving them away in Splat's discord. Hell of a lot of fun. The game is NOT easy. Pirates can and will wreck your entire fleet if you're off guard.
32:20 I don't think Splat is understanding the circumstances here they might have family members on that ship they might have supplies needed for patients on their ship You can't just let someone accidentally shoot at what you might need with out teaching them and other people in eye and ear shot that there might be "accidental" repercussions for you actions.
Looks good. I really loved the idea of starsector but the combat was just way too complicated for me, and I would constantly get stuck in situations where my whole fleet was chasing a single wolf frigate that kept phasing away. I think not having to enter another map for battle makes that situation less likely to happen
Yeah I love Starsector, and still play it, but it's designed to be very restrictive in how you must implement gear and builds in very specific ways. The main problem is that there are definitely WAY more wrong ways to build a ship than right ways. That just limits the amount of customization you can actually have, because all those builds you dream up that should be cool actually just suck. For instance, any "hardcore" Starsector player will tell you: "almost always add vents before adding capacitors", well IMHO that's just bad design if one out of two of your options is the WRONG option.
Eh its just basic math that getting rid of flux quiker is better in most situations, having high capacity doesn't help much if it takes ages to get rid of the flux you can hold. But there are exceptions to this in regards to some ship types and builds.
Liked for StarSector and SPAZ references at the beginning. 2 games that do NOT get enough attention. Thank you for reviewing this game, was wondering if I should pick it up!
2:50 I did the same in eve online I had a destroyer that made fighters into really good scrap and coincidentally I had a scrapper that was really good at finding the newly made scrap and turn a profit for making drones...
Honestly, this game has had an amazing amount of thought put into it's build and the details for various stat building with hires and crafts, etc. I'm surprised it's not 3D instead of Top--> Down!! Being top-down will leave this to a specific "niche" group into top->down games. If they ever changed the landscape layouts to 3D 360-camera viewing, this game would go nuts with an influx of gamers from all categories. Even as it is now, there's some good exposure, just felt throwing down my opinion on the build. I may not agree with the landscape layouts, but the game as a whole is incredible and should be marked "must try" by those in the know. 👍[Post-Stream Comment] : I was unaware this game was built by one person.... Mad respect on the developers' skills! Everyone should try this game when Steam has it ready for sales in a couple of weeks.
Really enjoy this game, lots of updates, although I trying not to put in too much time into it so that I'm not burnt out by the time its feature complete.
Just figured I'd share with you Splattercat. Was playing this today after watching this video. I found YOU in the game. You are my copilot whom I rescued from a salvage node. A nice unique crew that adds +10 cargo space and 5% damage reduction to "Independent" style ships. I'm gonna hop on your discord and share a pic.
heh just game here to say this. yah all his buffs are only for 'indy' ships :P i had just commented on one of their update discussions that splat had got me to buy the game (like many peeps did) i guess they already realised that and added our flattened cat to the game. interestingly - i dont think i had ever rescued a person from a salvage node before until today, but i was being shot at and didnt notice the name until i was looking for a pilot for the haephestus
One thing i must say You make game reviews quality high When i looked for reviews Everyone played first hour or two Not even getting to fleet stuff Which made their reviews low content The fleet opens up different gameplay That is very interesting Also there are limitations for ship ownership Big ships … big problem )))
I agree this has a lot of potential. Look GREAT!! And just bought it. Can't wait to try it. Would love to see some station building of some sort; or maybe internal ship management/building so you could keep moving around.
Looks great, like a game that you could lose yourself in for a couple of hours! I also can't help but think that this game would do brilliantly with online mode but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on their steam page.
I have been enjoying this game for over 24 hours now and have been watching some of your videos. I have to say, that this game is very great. Also, I would like to let you @splattercatgaming know, I got you in game as First Officer crew member on board my cruiser class ship "Hephaestus". Keep up the good work!
Considering this game, looks like something I would love. glad to see you have a vid on it to help inform my purchase. Busy month for games though, so much coming out that I would like to get. Already got Cult of the Lamb and Spidey as well.
i bought this game to support the developer, one man team is crazy lol. i am old so the tutorial, being all words, wasn't easy for me to read and a lot of things i didn't get. played for a few hours and gave up because i kept dying.
Did you save scum a lot to get that fleet? Besides being completely pointless, when I tried to build a fleet it was pretty normal for them to suicide into much stronger ships repeatedly to the point I quit trying. This and the fact that they don't carry loot and there isn't really a reason to have them yet until more functionality is implemented.
Hey Splatt!!! I know I've been saying this a lot, but THANK YOU very much for all the support. I loved the video and I'm really glad you enjoy the game that much. This only makes me want to keep developing the game further and make it better and better (which I will even after launch).

Yep hated the combat but loved the design.
You just need to watch a video on how to use flert commands to fix that 🙂
Eh its just basic math that getting rid of flux quiker is better in most situations, having high capacity doesn't help much if it takes ages to get rid of the flux you can hold. But there are exceptions to this in regards to some ship types and builds.
I always get a kick out of the names Splat picks for his characters/ships.
Liked for StarSector and SPAZ references at the beginning. 2 games that do NOT get enough attention. Thank you for reviewing this game, was wondering if I should pick it up!
Over 100 hours in star valor, recently found splattercat, your a great character good bonuses.
"You don't know what the perk does."
IT'S RIGHT THERE IN THE DESCRIPTION... ah nvm.. love ya splatty."
Amazing game. Looking forward to finding that splattercat officer soon :D
🚀💪
Star Valor really look like more Drox Operative but at the next lvl
Played both, this one is more refined IMO
@@TinchoX 🚀🚀
“Reset!” Smile spread across my face, TY
2:50 I did the same in eve online I had a destroyer that made fighters into really good scrap and coincidentally I had a scrapper that was really good at finding the newly made scrap and turn a profit for making drones...
Sweet, I love both stat sector and SPAZ. Definitely gunna look into it
Anyone else reminded of Transcendence? Hard to believe that it's almost 20 years old at this point.
You can check the wiki as well to see how to farm the really high end gold weapons in enemy sectors from higher level elite squads that hunt you down.
Thank you very much! Going top-down view was actually a way to keep it less complicated to make as a solo dev. But who knows what the future holds? 🙂
Yup! Yet another game i buy because of splattercat :-)
It really looks like a perfect steamdeck game
Really enjoy this game, lots of updates, although I trying not to put in too much time into it so that I'm not burnt out by the time its feature complete.
Just figured I'd share with you Splattercat. Was playing this today after watching this video. I found YOU in the game. You are my copilot whom I rescued from a salvage node. A nice unique crew that adds +10 cargo space and 5% damage reduction to "Independent" style ships. I'm gonna hop on your discord and share a pic.
heh just game here to say this. yah all his buffs are only for 'indy' ships :P
i had just commented on one of their update discussions that splat had got me to buy the game (like many peeps did) i guess they already realised that and added our flattened cat to the game. interestingly - i dont think i had ever rescued a person from a salvage node before until today, but i was being shot at and didnt notice the name until i was looking for a pilot for the haephestus
I bought this after your other video ;) Plus I really liked SPAZ alot.
I've been playing this game for a while now, I think it's a blast
Splat bro, thank you for this game lol. This has been my daily driver for 3 days straight . Loving it
You have a great channel. Totally grown on me.
One thing i must say
You make game reviews quality high
When i looked for reviews
Everyone played first hour or two
Not even getting to fleet stuff
Which made their reviews low content
The fleet opens up different gameplay
That is very interesting
Also there are limitations for ship ownership
Big ships … big problem )))
You've sold me! I'll have to give it a try
I don’t know if you’ve given it a try but Drox Operative 2 is an excellent space game if you’re looking for more to play!
Bought, can’t wait to get home to try this out.. Thanks dude for the tip!!
I enjoy the look and feel of this more than starsector.
It's like a casual 3D Starsector (casual not in a negative way, Starsector is _too much_ sometimes) and it looks great fun, gonna grab it ty Splat.
I agree this has a lot of potential. Look GREAT!! And just bought it. Can't wait to try it. Would love to see some station building of some sort; or maybe internal ship management/building so you could keep moving around.
Oh my lord this reminded me Disputed Galaxy!
This feels like an easier to understand version of Avorion, which I liked but always overwhelmed me. I need to give this one a shot instead.
"Being in a bigger ship does not make you safer." Irl battleships are an example of this.
Nice ! Feels like starsector but now has intense so good little gem indeed ^^
This sounds so much like Escape Velocity that I used to play in the 90's. I'm very interested.
Looks great, like a game that you could lose yourself in for a couple of hours! I also can't help but think that this game would do brilliantly with online mode but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on their steam page.
People want multiplayer support, which I'll consider after launch. At least a local co-op mode is planned for later :)
@@Laious That sounds awesome!
Wow this game has so much hidden depth. What a huge sandbox.I cant keep up with the games Splatt my wishlist is like 50 at the moment lol.
mine is 70 titles and i just for fun counted how many are right now on the list because i watch this chanel: 38 out of the 70!
If you ever decide to cover Starsector again, it would be cool if you showed the later parts in the game like in this video.
This is extremely reminiscent of an old game called "Escape Velocity". Hoping this is a true predecessor to that masterpiece.
Very cool game. Even cooler that it's made by a solo brazilian developer!
💪🚀
I have been enjoying this game for over 24 hours now and have been watching some of your videos. I have to say, that this game is very great. Also, I would like to let you @splattercatgaming know, I got you in game as First Officer crew member on board my cruiser class ship "Hephaestus". Keep up the good work!
I like starsector this must be a must buy
i had this wishlisted for so long now, imma buy it straight away^^
Nice, have fun!
This is lookin' like some good shit, omae. I've been wanting a game like this for ages. I can't wait for the full version to drop.
Considering this game, looks like something I would love. glad to see you have a vid on it to help inform my purchase. Busy month for games though, so much coming out that I would like to get. Already got Cult of the Lamb and Spidey as well.
Looks fun. I do enjoy a space trading game where I eventually can amass a legit war fleet.
Thanks for showcasing SPACE! 👾🌠
looks promising, closest game to silent death online that i can find
I regularly play this game, and highly recommend it.
thank you!! 💪
@@Laious I’ve got like a couple hundred hours already, and I’ve still barely gotten to a high level.
@@fiend_gaming nice!! And more content is coming for launch, and lots more after it!
Looks really interesting. Will have to pick it up.
thank, going to check it out now.
17:20 that ship bumped into NOTHING
I ended up purchasing this because of your video.
💪💪
its a very fun game made by one person
💪
@@Laious im a huge fan 👽
i bought this game to support the developer, one man team is crazy lol. i am old so the tutorial, being all words, wasn't easy for me to read and a lot of things i didn't get. played for a few hours and gave up because i kept dying.
I adore ship rpgs. Thanks
