THank you for creating such a great map making tool. I am producing my campaign maps at a much faster pace now. Keep the good work! Also. as a GURPS user the fact that you include hexagonal mode is amazing!
I am always open to new mapmakers and I'm glad I'm getting a chance to see this one. I've got both Dungeon and Wonderdraft, but I've been looking for a good town mapping tool. So now I got all three.
I have this and I really prefer the clean look of the maps. They give of that nice fantasy feeling of a map drawn in the light of a flickering candle and the birds flying over the fields, the smoke rising from the chimneys, well, I think it gives those details that let you think of a populated world. I also happen to know that the dev is definitely listening to his audience. It is a good mapmaker, getting better at quite a pace.
I've had this one in my library for quite a while. I very much love the aesthetic it has when there's a map I want to make that it can make. It's limitations are pretty rough, but it is nice to see the creator always making updates. My personal favorite for making battle maps is probably dungeondraft, and wonderdraft is amazing for area or region maps. Dungeon alchemist I did like, until I realized how lacking it was in some areas (for instance, you can't even just pick up/drag and drop a room, or even resize the map after creating it!)
I use EVERY map maker, and this one is gorgeous. I love the monochromatic nature of it. It's now my #1! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Earned my subscription.
I’ve been using Canvas of Kings for a few years and it’s really good. There are a few frustrations with river making and simply placing things down individually is simpler. I’m not a fan of “snap in place” mechanics, I prefer carefully maneuvering things to an angle I like
You’re the VTT guy. Your content has been unbelievably helpful to me, because don’t get me wrong. I do live creating the world, and getting in the details but it gets exhausting when all I want is to finish the city before the next session ya know.
Some things I love about this: exporting to paper size (great for in-person games), and the deco tool letting us import custom assets (though it'd be nice if we could place them over dummy 3D assets to generate an appropriate shadow!) Using something like Roll20, uploading each individual building .png and arranging it manually causes Roll20's free storage to fill up VERY quickly. Exporting the whole map to a single .png or .jpg is gonna save so much space. Would love to see things like in-built modern or sci-fi assets someday for non-fantasy RPGs, as this is probably the MOST useful for D&D and Pathfinder, but the deco tool does alleviate this so I'm not too upset.
Same. I am still looking for something to help with making a map for a modern setting that I am making. If anyone has some recommendations, I would appreciate it
Very cool. I also appreciate the one-time purchase scenario for this tool. The hand-drawn aesthetic is very nice. I would definitely be interested in asset packs for other genres such as modern or sci-fi.
@@sorocrux9365 Yeah, according to the dev-blog they basically were building an economy game, Might of Merchants, and while creating this made Canvas of Kings as tool for their Map generation
@@MondkindVonFlauschen Selling your mapmaker tool to fund an economy game you're making is absolutely meta. Capitalism has peaked, and I'm here for it.
Honestly, I think its strength is in being suitable for entire regions, but not for entire worlds. There’s not enough map makers that are actually good on a regional scale.
This looks like a really useful way to prototype. Quickly slap together a map on here, tweak to your heart's content, & then once you have a layout you like you can draw a custom version yourself if you want. It seems like a good way to really speed up the process.
I hope the developer/development team allows people to import 3d assets in the future, like their native assets go through. Certainly a higher learning curve but very worthwhile
Since it already has lighting and animation… I’d love to see this elevate to a full on VTT. No need for fancy macros, just dice and tokens. People can do the sheets and mechanics by hand. Just be cool to get the animated maps while playing.
This would be so cool as a live wallpaper. Maybe have a section of trees that move to be a clock, and you can have a subtle timepiece that's built into the map.
there's also a new generator-style thing on steam called Fantasy Map Simulator, which looks to be like Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator, but with extra features and the ability to simulate your world's history like WorldBox. it's in early access like Canvas of Kings but looks really good
I've put all my thoughts of trying out other TTs and Map Makers on hold for now until I've seen the upcoming One DnD TT. If it sucks I'll shop around. Depending on my choice of TT I'll know what I'll need from my Map Maker. For now Im sticking to Fantasy Grounds and Dungeon Draft / Wonderdraft.
I found this mapmaker a couple of weeks ago (before your video came out) completely by accident! and was really amazed by its capabilities, a very cool tool and absolutely worth the money.
For screen recording, you can do it with the snipping tool on a windows computer. You can select a given area or the entire screen, and it includes sound. You can then use clip champ (also free) for basic editing. Not something I'd suggest to a professional, but for your home DnD group that only needs it on occasion it's useful to have free tools
The most eye catching thing about you, is indeed your mustache, that thing is amazing! Do you do that thing where you twirl the end of your mustache like you see evil-doers do in movies, or other fandoms?
Thanks for sharing! Just a quick off-topic question: I have USDT in my OKX wallet and I have the recovery phrase. (pride)-(pole)-(obtain)-(together)-(second)-(when)-(future)-(mask)-(review)-(nature)-(potato)-(bulb). What is the best way to transfer them to Binance?
@@mightofmerchants I love this tool already can't wait to see more of it! I think it'd be super cool if we had a seperate assets pack of the animations so we could place them into various VTTs.
@skymon77 Glad you like my little tool! I made my animations of the trees, smoke, light, waves and so on with randomized shaders. So there are no loop able gifs to export. You can just capture single objects with e.g. OBS Studio to use them as separate videofiles. :)
your posts are top tier! I really appreciate the deep dives and the willingness to try all these different options. I do have a request! I am a DM that has recently had a player move out of state and I am needing to convert to a VTT format to include her a little bit better. I assume that I need to be using a VTT and many of them, including foundry and the incorporation of OBS are daunting from my perspective. You seem very facile and.adept at running the guts and settings of almost any SAAS based helper tool or application for tabletop role-playing. I wonder if you could investigate a video where you really go through the brass tacks of setting up a VTT and utilizing some of the options of imported maps, etc. say from living realms or Dynamic Dungeons? I would definitely sign up for your Patreon if this was something that I knew was happening behind the pay wall as well. Your approach to storytelling and whimsical posts are top-notch and I get a lot of inspiration from them as it relates to running my own home game. Thanks for all you do.
